Great value when dining with a larger group, but it’ll get pricey if you come alone or with one other person. Adding extra ingredients is an absolute must, otherwise the food will come out very plain and mediocre. The first time I ate here, I only split a small pot with my girlfriend, and we didn’t add any additional ingredients. My opinion at the time was that this was nothing more special than a home-cooked stir fry. It wasn’t until I came here the second time, where I came with a larger group of friends and started adding extra ingredients we wanted, did I really see the novelty of this chain. We got the large dry pot with hot spicy sauce, pig intestines, and beef short rib. I highly recommend adding black fungus($3) and Napa cabbage (only $1 extra!) at the minimum. I don’t recommend adding king oyster mushroom($4) because we barely had any mushroom in our pot. The pig intestines were well-marinated and stir fried until it was nice and tender. The spicy sauce had a added a nice kick with lots of umami. After eating here three times, I’ll say that the quality is very consistent. I can definitely see myself coming back again when eating with a group of friends who have different preferences!

The Magic Noodle ??å?«æ?¹ – Menu with Prices – 5829 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh

I came here with my father during dinner time and ordered the number 1 (house dry noodle with minced pork), shrimp soy fried rice, scallion pancake, stir fried greens, and intestines. I opted against getting my own customizable “magic” noodle bowls, so I can’t speak to that experience. However, I remember being a little confused and overwhelmed by the organization of the menu. The vegetables in particular were under the stir fry section and hard to notice. Regardless the food came out pretty quickly, maybe 10 minutes wait max. The service was good. Our waitress was friendly and kind and helped to accommodate us when we moved from outside to inside seating. I also noticed her helping other customers when the other waitress couldn’t understand their questions. She helped to clarify that the restaurant did offer gluten free options aka rice noodles. The food was okay. The noodle dish was kind of spicy for me, which I found kind of disappointing since I can’t tolerate spice well and had found no indication of this on the menu. The soy fried rice and scallion pancake were decent and the stir fried veggies refreshing. The intestines were a new experience for me and had a good amount of fat, but I don’t think I’m a fan of intestines in general. Overall it was nice to try the food, but I’m not sure if I would come again. Maybe I would return to try the create your own noodle option.

Bangkok 54 Restaurant Menu with Prices 2919 Columbia Pike, Arlington

Decided to try Bangkok 54 with a group of my friends on a weeknight. I had seen the restaurant before because I have gone to Boru Ramen a couple times before (right next door). Not a fan of the parking in this area because it is very limited. Bangkok54 is a little better with their own lot in the back, but it is a little tight and can fill up quickly depending on the day. Service is always very friendly at Bangkok 54. The restaurant is very large, so I have not had to wait for a table yet. Dishes here range from maybe $12-15 on the menu with the classics like Thai curry, stir-fried dishes, noodles, soups, etc. Food: Mock Duck (vegetarian) – My friend ordered the mock duck the past two times and it is sooo good. It is crunchy, crispy, savory, and spicy!! Stir-Fry Kaprow (pork) – This is usually my go-to dish at Thai restaurants besides Khao Soi. It’s just stir-fried spicy pork with basil and peppers. It was pretty standard here and a little more on the pricy side. Mango Sticky Rice – Really good mango sticky rice here! Mangos were fresh and ripe and the sticky rice was sweet and delicious. Overall, food here is pretty solid and the restaurant is large. Parking can be a bit of a hassle sometimes, but not too bad since they have their own lot. Would recommend for some solid Thai food in the area.

MaDee Thai Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 401 E 17th St, Costa Mesa

What Grace N. said… Best Thai food in OC. I’ve been exploring Thai food for the past 20 years. Thai food used to be authentic and hard to find. Now it’s everywhere and completely Americanized. I’ll use one of my favorite dishes as an example, Pad Krapow. Pad Krapow consists of meat such as pork, chicken, beef, and seafood stir fried with Thai holy basil and garlic. It is served with rice and topped up (optional) with fried eggs . The main seasonings are soy sauce, Thai fish sauce, oyster sauce, cane sugar, and bird’s eye chili. This dish is typically somewhat spicy due to the bird chilies. When it’s done authentically, the flavor of the basil and the garlic are dominant. Lastly the flavor works best when the pork or chicken is ground. In almost any Thai restaurant in OC this dish is sliced chicken breast in oyster sauce with no chilies and some bell pepper. If that sounds bland, it is. The food at Ma Dee is authentic Bangkok street food. Everything from the noodle dishes to the soups are amazing. It’s a hole in the wall but so good.

Liuyishou Hotpot Flushing – Menu with Prices – 136-76 39th Ave, Flushing

Hot pot at Liuyishou was definitely an experience. My friend and I came here on a busy Saturday night and were seated after about a 20 minute wait. We were pretty hungry so ended up ordering way too much. We started the meal with panfried beef rolls which are essentially Chinese pancakes wrapped with thin slices of beef and sauce. They charge an extra $3 or so for the unlimited sauce and fruit/side-dishes bar which I think is worth it. The broths we picked were the original spicy beef soup base and non-spicy pork rib soup base. The beef broth was too spicy for me but the pork broth was really rich and flavorful. The hot pot ingredients we ordered included the beef/lamb platter, fresh tofu, king oyster mushrooms, Chinese cabbage, a-choy, and fish balls. Everything was really fresh, and the meat platter was more than enough for the two of us. Lastly, our waiters were attentive and terrific. This was the best hot pot experience I’ve ever had, and I hope one opens in Chicago soon!

Jasmine Thai Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 2017 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville

My wife and I tried Jasmine Thai for the first time yesterday. Although it is close to our home, it’s not on a part of Wade Hampton that we are on frequently so we haven’t gone until now. Also and I hate to admit, the times we have driven by it just didn’t look that appealing in that small strip mall. Anyway we wanted to try something new and we are glad we did. I have to say this is by far the best Thai Cuisine we’ve had in Greenville since moving here in 2013. My wife started with the Tom Yum Kai thai spicy soup with exotic thai herbs with mushroom, lime juice, lemongrass, galangal, cilantro and added shrimp. We shared several items including Pineapple Fried Rice, stir fried jasmine rice with egg, pineapple chunks, curry powder, raisins, scallions, cashew nuts and onions, The Pad See, stir fried wide rice noodle, egg, broccoli, carrots and thai sweet soy sauce, added shrimp and Mix Vegetables with broccoli, cabbages, carrots, onions, mushroom, soy bean paste.Everything was fresh and delicious. The prices are very resonable and the service was attentive, friendly and just perfect! Jasmine Thai is now our Go to Thai place of choice!

Extreme Pizza – Menu with Prices – 111 W Nolana Ave, McAllen

9/7 Saturday My sister, her husband, and my niece Lilly went out for pizza and it was worth it! I ordered the Hanoi Fever: shredded pork, maybe more like pieces of pork, marinated in a spicy hoisin style sauce, peanuts, green onions, cilantro, carrots, jalapeños and mozzarella. While the spicy hoisin style sauce wasn’t really spicy to me, the fresh slices of jalapeños did it for me! Great choice if you like spicy! Maybe I’ll dare myself to try the Ghost Wave- ghost pepper cheese!!! THIN CRUST PIZZA!!! YUMMMY!!! We had THE YARD, Cheese and another pizza with sausage, mushroom and ricotta! Everyone was satisfied! My nephew Toby turned 28 years old! Ok, The Yard comes with so many toppings one slice is all I could handle: Italian sausage, pepperoni, salami, black olives, mushroom, green peppers, red onion, vine ripe tomatoes, tomato sauce, mozzarella and cheddar! So much and so gooooood! On Tuesday’s they have a deal: buy one larger and get a smaller free. Something like that. So next Tuesday…yep, pizza for lunch! Took the pizza to go, and didn’t stay, but I do want to go hang out and have a slice and some beer! Wonderful pizza and a great price!

Incredibowl – Menu with Prices – 133-35 Roosevelt Ave #8, Flushing

Ok, so I’ve never actually been here… But with the magic of technology and online businesses, I’ve had food from Incredibowl delivered to me. Incredibowl is incredible! (How witty am I?) I use UberEats or FlushingFood.com to get this delivered to me. Right now as of 4/5/2018, if you order through FlushingFood.com, you get 20% more food as part of their promotion. I also find that FlushingFood is more reliable in terms of delivery time and carefulness in delivering. Both times I’ve ordered through FF, the bag was minimally oily but the time I ordered from Uber, much of the sauce had spilled out (rendering the dish not very spicy and a bit dry) and they were also late (just a couple of minutes, 5-10 max). But I digress. When you order online, you choose the size that you want. It’s very clear on how many people it will feed (accurately) and depending on the size you order, you get a different amount of rice. Once you choose that, you pick the spice level that you want. Very spicy is extremely spicy! I’m a spice maniac so last night when I ordered for myself only, I ordered very spicy and my mouth went numb and my head was sweating! It’s great. I ate so much I barely have enough leftovers for today (I ordered for two.) The other times I’ve ordered, I was eating with A so I ordered the regular spicy. His mouth went numb and he was sweating. I thought it was a good amount of spicy for me, but I definitely prefer the very spicy. The spicier the better!! Next, you choose your ingredients – there are various meats, veggies, fish, tofu, noodles/rice cakes. Don’t go crazy and select everything; the more selections you make, the less of each item you get. The first time we ordered everything we like and ended up with a little of everything. Now, I choose about 4 meats and 5 other things. Next time, I think I will do even less meats. I like the beef, pork belly, tripe, fish tofu, bok choy, king oyster mushroom, enoki mushrooms, lotus root and winter melon. If I’m ordering with A, I usually get the imitation crab also. My mouth is watering as I type this. The food is delicious even after it being delivered to me while I’m in Flushing (but not that part of Flushing) and after I drive it home… so I can imagine if you’re eating it freshly made, it’ll be even better! Maybe even 5 stars better? I’m gonna have to brave the driving and parking nightmare that is Main Street Flushing one day and try it soon.

Nine Spices Fondue – Menu with Prices – 3333 SW 34th St, Gainesville

Gainesville is close to the trifecta- we have a Chinese bakery, now we have Nine Spices Fondue aka hot pot, all we are missing is a foot massage place. In the meantime, I will offer my quick review of Nine Spices. I like this hot pot a lot compared to others I’ve been to: they offer an all you can eat option as well as a limited menu option. We chose the all you can eat because we wanted to try a lot of things, and I recommend this for your first time so that you know what your favorites are. They also have a nice selection of broths; I chose the mushroom broth but asked for chili on the side to make it a little spicy. I will 100% get this broth combination again, it was wonderfully umami with a kick. Everything comes around on a little train by your table, including the meat. I’m not sure how they manage to keep the meat at a proper temperature while it is going around on the train, but it’s nice to have it all come to you. They have a sauce bar, which seems pretty standard at hot pots. I love this because you can make the exact combination sauce that you want. They also give you some ideas/recipes if you are too nervous to invent your own. The only drawbacks included the following: 1) a lot of the ingredients were difficult to identify. They have a tiny little picture guide with cooking times on the napkin dispenser, but it is too small and blurry to be effective. I think they need to make 8 x 11 sheets and laminate them and keep them at the table. 2) if you are sitting far from the food window, you may get last pick of the ingredients coming around. Luckily, you can ask your waiter for specific items and they will bring it to you. 3) no dessert / sweet items included with the all you can eat for the end of the meal. Conversation was difficult because we were focusing so much on the options coming around on the train, but it was fun wondering what was next. This is the kind of place that I won’t come often, but will come for a special occasion (Mostly because it is not cheap for all you can eat). But if you’ve never been to a hot pot, I recommend trying this fun eating experience.

Boiled Skewer – Menu with Prices – 2180 Pleasant Hill Rd B3, Duluth

I really like Boiled Skewer. This is a Chinese hot pot restaurant that offers a plethora of skewers (various meats, animal parts, vegetables, noodles, and more) for only 50 cents a skewer. The ingredients are fresh and of decent to good quality for what you pay, making this place an excellent value, not to mention a fun experience (assuming you’re a fan of cook-it-yourself hot pot). The restaurant opened September 2016 and is one of three hot pot restaurants at GW Marketplace (Sweet Hut Duluth shopping center); the other two hot pot restaurants being 89 Hot Pot (traditional Chinese) and Pop Pot (Taiwanese). At the time of writing this review, there are about five other hot pot restaurants, mostly Korean, within an approximate half-mile radius. I think this makes 2180 Pleasant Hill Rd in Duluth the de facto hot pot center of metro Atlanta. Boiled Skewer differentiates itself from the competition by offering a self-serve smorgasbord of kabobs or skewered items which you cook yourself inside a hot pot at your table. Electric flattop stoves are installed at every table. Each table seats four. One table shares a large communal hot pot as opposed to there being an individual hot pot for each customer. Split hot pots are available if a table wants to order two soup broths instead of one. Soup options include classic spicy, double flavor, original bone, mushroom flavor, and seafood flavor. Soups cost about $4-6 each, but are free at lunchtime (12-3pm, daily) and free at dinnertime if you spend at least $25. Extra spicy soup costs a dollar extra. I’ve tried the classic spicy and double flavor and like both, though I prefer classic spicy. Both are seasoned well with the double flavor having a milky white broth and the classic spicy having a red oily broth. Unlike other hot pot places like J’s Mini Hot Pot or 89 Hot Pot, Boiled Skewer premixes sauces for you. Sauce options include classic peanut sauce, sesame paste sauce, sesame oil sauce, oyster peanut sauce, and original sesame paste. Sauces are included with your meal and you can ask for as many as you want. I’ve tried them all and think they’re all pretty good. My favorite is the sesame oil sauce. By default, all sauces come with chopped cilantro. Plates of sliced raw meat are ordered off the menu for about $5-6 a plate. They have beef, lamb, pork, and chicken. I recommend ordering at least one plate of meat for every two people. Other menu items include Chinese bread, dumplings, fried pumpkin pancake (tasty and suggested), and fried chicken nuggets. These are mostly $2-5 an order. Boiled Skewer’s claim to fame are its three double-door refrigerators featuring a wide assortment of self-serve skewered items as well as bowls and plates of food, all meant to be cooked in your hot pot. Put on a pair of restaurant-supplied food prep gloves and go to town. Below I’ve compiled a comprehensive, but not exhaustive, list of things you can expect to find: Fridge #1 – Fish tofu – Chinese sausage – Imitation crab leg – Octopus – Pork intestines – Chicken hearts – Fish sausage – Quail eggs – Pork luncheon meat (Spam) – Sweet sausage – Fish balls – Beef tendon balls – Shrimp balls – Clam meat – Squid – Fresh shrimp – Pork – Chicken – Prepared pork intestines – Beef omasum tripe – Beef tripe – Fried tempura Fridge #2 – Broccoli – Lettuce – Bean seedling – Watercress – Napa cabbage – Vietnamese chrysanthemum – Taro – Chinese yam – Shanghai bok choy tips – A choy – Spinach – Mushrooms – Enoki mushrooms – Cilantro – Tomato – Cauliflower – Pumpkin – White radish Fridge #3 – Bean thread – Pork bone noodle (ramen) – Fresh corn (mini, on the cob) – Rice cake (tteokbokki) – Sour cabbage – Bamboo shoots – Frozen tofu – Dried soy bean knots – Dried bean curds – Lotus – Seaweed – Fungus (wood ear variety) – Udon noodles – Shanghai noodles – Flower petal pasta – Eggs – Vietnamese rice noodles – Green bean noodles – Sweet potato noodles – Fresh tofu – Konjac silk – Fried tofu – Fried round gluten – Chinese twisted cruller – Chinese egg noodle

Atomic Burger Menu with Prices 5909 Creek Centre Dr, Baton Rouge

The new Atomic Burger that opened up on Burbank attracts a sizable crowd. The place is closed pretty early and the drive-thru is closed earlier than that. The parking lot was filled when I went there for my first time. The quality of the food was really good. There are four main flavors: the Atomic Burger, the Green Chile, the Jamburger, and the Mushroom Swiss. I got two sliders. One slider was the Mushroom Swiss Slider and the other one was the green Chile Slider. These sliders really were interesting in terms of flavor. However, I think that the price of these sliders were a little pricey. The two sliders were 6-8 dollars, and one burger was 6-8 dollars. The meal added in the French fries and a drink for another 4 dollars. Additionally, the shakes were another 4-6 dollars. This can get really pricey really quickly. I would advise to watch out for this. The extra ingredients also were worth close to a dollar which can really add up. The service was good. We went up to place our orders, and the server was really nice and helped us choose since we were new there. We got our orders and put our names in and then went to take a seat. The wait wasn’t long for our orders which was nice. However, the waiters would yell out your name and walk around to find you. I think that there could be a way more efficient method of doing this such as providing a number to the orders or doing something akin to that. For this reason, I had to take away a star. Additionally, the supplies at the soft drink and sauce station would be running low and not be replaced as often. This leads to people paying for something and not being able to obtain that product without asking the servers to replace it. This could have been that particular day, but people had to wait for some of their soft drinks that they ordered. My main love for this place comes from the choices of sauces that you can get. There is a sauce station at this place where you can get a cup of sauce, picked from 5 sauces. The five sauces are the A.B. Sauce, Sriracha Mayo, Truffle Mayo, Spicy Ketchup, and the Roasted Garlic Aioli. These sauces are unique in flavor and should be tried. The only issue with some of them is that the sauce can be too thick and hard to eat after consuming a burger. I would recommend coming here to try the sauces.

Perfect Pear Bistro – Menu with Prices – 9845 S Priest Dr, Tempe

Awful food here. Their veggie sandwich that everyone talks about is no longer on the menu. I asked for it and they made it anyway. The bread was stale. Ingredients were a decent combo, but the foccacia bread ruined it. The other item we got was the mushroom marsala pasta. Not even close to what it should have been. It was just a plate of undercooked penne noodles, a tiny bit of bland sauce, and a few mushrooms. It was actually gross. This restaurant even had yelp remove my review, so I am adding it back now. Apparently, descriptions of restaurant guests are against “content guidelines”, lol! So I have to remove that section. (so this can stay a Safe Space) Overall I do not recommend this place. Instead, Pomegranate Cafe is down the street and is priced similarly, sells organic food, is vegan, and it actually tastes good. Go there.

Maine Lobster Now – Menu with Prices – 58 City Line Dr, Portland

When I received my order I was totally excited. I have not had good lobster in years. However, ordering the tails I expected to have the intestines removed. I tried looking inside before cooking them & I also watched their video on how to cook a great lobster tails. In the video it doesn’t say to remove the intestines, so I didn’t cut them open before steaming and when they were done I had 6 cooked lobsters, 2 lobsters cooked with intestines and 4 lobsters that didn’t have the intestines inside. So I called to ask about it & the gentlemen on the phone said that they can’t tell if they are sending out lobsters with the “tamales” as he called it inside or not. But all I had to do is wash the insides out after cooking it if I wanted to not have a dirty lobster inside. I call it dirty! I don’t really like that response he gave me! I was going to butterfly it to see if the intestine was inside however my husband wanted a steamed lobster & the video wasn’t clear enough to tell us to remove any parts. The guy I talked to was sort of rude & all I wanted was reassurance that if I ordered again they would be removed but he couldn’t tell me that. It sounded like he was talking down to me. I explained to him I was very knowledgeable about seafood that’s why I watched the video on steaming it, I wanted the best experience straight from the company that I bought from. Wrong! I should have done it my way!! Two of our family members were grossed out because when they got done steaming & they had the intestine still inside. We did wash them out but it’s still on your mind when your eating them. I wonder why 4 of them came without the intestines? The guy couldn’t answer that question. He said maybe they need to redo the video & be more specific. I am disappointed but the flavor was great. Even though the ones that had the intestine in them looked dirty inside. I really expected more from the customer service aspect then just trying to get me off the phone. Oh well, WHATEVER!!
