We came by here for lunch around 1PM on Labor Day. We were seated immediately as the restaurant still had tons of seating available. We got the miso soup and our waters immediately. The bento boxes looked appetizing and it came with tons of foods, but the pricing was towards $20. Pretty steep so I opted for a roll instead. I think we got the dinner menu instead because when I checked online the bento boxes were much cheaper for lunch. =/. We tried the Andy’s roll and the spicy rainbow roll. We also got the monkey brains as appetizer although it takes longer to cook. We got our rolls within 5 minutes (so fast) and our monkey brains shortly after. The monkey brain is essentially fried mushroom with spicy tuna… I took the first piece and it didn’t have any spicy tuna in it, just fried mushroom. So disappointed. The Andy’s roll was covered in crunchy pieces. The rainbow roll just had different types of fish/shrimp on top a spicy tuna roll. The slices of the fish were super thin. Both rolls tasted okay, nothing outstanding. Service was not the best, the guy who greeted us and sat us barely smiled and seemed annoyed when we asked for another seating. It was labor day so all is forgiven. We remember the original Satomi tasting much better.

Little Katana Las Colinas – Menu with Prices – 6420 N MacArthur Blvd #140, Irving

My family and I came here for dinner one night and really enjoyed! We shared a few appetizers, the calamari (delicious and crispy. Had some fried jalapeños in there as well) and the jalapeño popper appetizer (also delicious with raw tuna and crab on top and jalapeño on bottom!). We all really enjoyed these. For entree most of my family for bento boxes. You need to ask for the dinner menu bento boxes if you want to order them, since the dinner bento menu is separate from the regular dinner menu. My boyfriend and I shared three sushi rolls, a classic spicy tuna, the spicy crawfish, and the sunny roll. All were delicious!! And really hit the spot of my sushi craving. All in all amazing food and my mom even enjoyed it! And she’s incredibly picky. As for the service, it was decent but a little lacking. Initially we had to wait a bit for them to get utensils/dinner napkin for us when the appetizers were already served. Secondly, when my mom got her bento box, it was supposed to come with shrimp and vegetable tempura but they skipped it on her plate, leaving just lettuce. When we told our waitress, she agreed. Five minutes later another waitress comes and said it didn’t come with the “nigiri” bento but my dad got that bento, not her. We corrected their mistake but it just took an altercation and misunderstanding to get there.

Samurai Sushi Bar – Menu with Prices – 3545 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, Lafayette

For some reason we always order sushi from this place. Not sure why we haven’t branched out to many other places, but the food never disappoints! We started off with the Fried-Squid. That came out in big chunks, and it was really fresh. You could tell it didn’t come out of the frozen aisle of a grocery store. Then we had mussels, which I don’t think was worth it. There was way two much mustard that took away from the actual mussel flavor. Plus, they only give you two per order. Not worth it. My favorite thing out of the appetizers was the snow crab and salmon salad. It had a good amount of raw salmon packed into it. I could’ve just eaten that and be completely satisfied. Then for the sushi rolls…we ordered the Tuna Tataky Roll, Spider Roll, Samurai Roll, Koko Roll, and the Rainbow Roll (without rice). The Tuna Tataky Roll was really good. I enjoyed the fresh Tuna on top of the sushi roll. There was a prefect amount of rice in there to counterbalance it. The Rainbow Roll was my favorite out of the five, because it had all my favorite fish inside of one roll. The freshness from the fish is what made it worth the price. The Samurai Roll had way too much rice. It wasn’t very tasty. The other two rolls, the Koko and Spider Roll was okay. Nothing too special about them to me, but I’d definitely prefer those over the Samurai Roll. That concludes my review on this place; I will definitely be back!

Wasabi Factory – Menu with Prices – 7415 Hardeson Rd #A, Everett

I used to frequent Wasabi factory when I was living at home a few years ago. Now I wanted to go back and try it again as it’s been a while. I remembered liking their Lion King and Volcano roll and I was craving sushi that was flame seared. I went to the place on a Friday night. It wasn’t full or packed, probably a few people at the bar and another party of 2. Their menu changed a little bit but I was craving a volcano roll and a bento box. I think they are known for their boxes as they are relatively cheap compared to other Japanese restaurants and comes with a lot of food. They have a deluxe and a regular bento box, depending on how much sushi you want and if you want a side of gyoza. I ordered the regular bento box with spicy tuna roll (comes with 8 rolls) and chicken katsu. They have other options you can order with it such as teriyaki, pork katsu, sushi, tempura; etc. On top of picking two things, you get miso soup, salad, and 4 pieces of California roll. I also got a volcano roll to share, which is a California roll seared with spicy tuna on the top. From what I could remember a few years ago, the roll was similar. I enjoyed eating the sushi as it leaves a little bit of a burnt taste. I recommend this along with Lion King if you want seared salmon, and the katana roll which is a shrimp tempura roll wrapped with tempura. The karagee was also ordered to share – it wasn’t super great as it wasn’t as crispy. Staff was friendly and food overall was great. Bento box was great for its value and I left full and content. Will be returning next time I’m in town.

Maizuru Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5623 Alton Pkwy, Irvine

We came here on a Sunday around 1pm and it was decently crowded, but we were able to get seated right away for a table of 5. The service was quick and decent, checking in once in a while to make sure everything was ok. We ordered the seafood salad (lunch portion), 1/2 order sushi rolls, and 2 item combination bento plate with spicy tuna roll and sesame chicken. Most full entrees come with miso soup, which nicely starts the meal as it’s light and yummy! The seafood salad was large for a lunch portion and we could barely finish it. The 1/2 order sushi rolls are perfect for splitting between people and not being stuck with one large roll and having differentiation for options! The 2 item continuation bento plate hit the spot. I think the sesame chicken is good with some teriyaki sauce if you ask for it on the side and the spicy tuna is solid as well. Recommend going to this place as it’s not as costly/expensive as other sushi/Japanese restaurants and you get a good experience as well!

Fujiyama Hibachi & Sushi – Menu with Prices – 601 W Trenton Rd, McAllen

Good stuff: The only good thing here was the gyoza/chicken dumpling. Bad stuff: I tried to order the salmon poke bowl, they didn’t have it. So then take it off the menu. So I ordered the rainbow roll based on their picture on their menu showing rainbow roll which typically have an assorted variety of raw fish and avocado on the outside. Instead I get some whack roll with artificial crab and avocado on the outside. So I ask the employee, “hey which ones are the rolls in the picture and how can I order those.” He goes back to ask and returns to inform me it’s just a stock photo, those rolls are not available here. Also ordered the bento box. As you can see the “California roll” does not have avocado like it usually has, and how it shows in the picture. Also the salad or steamed veggies were disgusting and again not as pictured. Disappointing. Won’t be back. Makes you wonder what other corners they cut. Do yourself a favor and take yourself to Lucky Sushi or Panda Express (yea I said it.)

Tsukiji Fusion Sushi – Katy – Menu with Prices – 24449 Katy Fwy #400, Katy

INTRO: So I have been craving sushi for quite a while and wanted to try something new. ZP and I came here the other day to see what we could find! The restaurant is located off of i10 so it wasn’t too far of a drive. The interior was pretty normal, nothing too crazy. I did however enjoy the hand-drawn pictures of anime characters along the walls and what sounded like anime openings playing lol FOOD: I ordered 3 pieces of nigiri and half a roll which was ~$12 a little pricey but it was okay as long as I get my sushi. I got one tuna, salmon, and unagi nigiri and then the spicy lover roll which consisted of tuna, spicy mayo, salmon, avo, and crunchy topping. As soon as my plate arrived, I thought it was the perfect amount! I was excited to eat. The roll wasn’t too bad, seemed like spicy tuna (which I was okay with) but where was the crunchy? It seemed like there was missing elements to my roll and that wasn’t a good sign. I moved on to the tuna nigiri and I was quite skeptical about the fish but I took a bite anyways. Now, I used to work at a poke shop so I know how it’s supposed to look like and.. nope. This wasn’t it. The tuna was dull and looked like play-doh and broke apart in my mouth. It did not taste meaty at all, more like a gummy candy.. I tried the salmon next and again; colorless, not firm, and broke apart. Unagi was the same way except way rubbery. Not happy ? -ZP on the other hand got the beef teriyaki bento box which had slices of beef (cooked to your preference), a few pieces of california roll, veggie tempura, and choice of white or fried rice. He really enjoyed this one because the meat was very tender and everything was paired nicely together. The only issue was how big the tempura was.. a HUGE piece broccoli fried in batter isn’t appealing at all. Maybe cut it in half and have two pieces instead? Just a thought. -When you check in on yelp you are able to get a free fried banana and icecream dessert so we got one to share and I have no picture so let me tell you. It was not impressive. As soon as we brought it up to our waiter she says “the banana thing?” lol must be traumatized. We got our dessert in less than a minute and here is how it was presented! About 10 super soggy pieces of tempura fried bananas surrounding a scoup of neopolitan icecream. mmmm.. no. The batter wasn’t evenly distributed among the bananas as there were huge glops of extra batter on the sides of some pieces. OVERALL: I had an open mind to this place since I wanted to get some sushi ya know? ZP said I should have gotten a bento box as well but for one, I wouldn’t be able to finish it all and two, if I want sushi from a sushi restaurant, shouldn’t they have good sushi? I don’t think I will be back since the quality of the fish was either frozen or pretty old. Fresh fish shouldn’t break apart or look dull! It’s terrifying because it’s served raw and that should mean being extra careful!! ?

Ken’s Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10006 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cucamonga

Where’s the TUNA?!?!?! For years I’ve passed by ken’s Japanese restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga. I swear, I think they’ve been there for at least 30 years. I figured they must be pretty good to be in business for so long. I decided to persuade Robert to finally have dinner there. The plan was that I was only going to get 1 or 2 rolls at most and Robert was just going to have ramen or a bento box. We didn’t want to do the normal AYCE. We get there and there was a decent amount of people already enjoying. So I was super excited cause I really wanted quality sushi. Got our menus. Wow! The selection was pretty limited. Only about 20 rolls and about 10 nigiri choices. Their nigiris were at least $8-10 per 2 pieces! And the tuna was at market price. Holy cow! That must be some golden tuna for the price to not even be listed. So, I looked at their rolls. I love tuna and I only found 1 that sounded appealing. It was a burrito roll. They offered two sizes, a small (2pieces) and a large (4 pieces). We decided to order the large so Robert could have a taste. Where the heck is the tuna????? It was little sliver of fish. The rest was imitation crab and shrimp tempura. It was so small that I didn’t even taste the tuna at all. That 1 roll costs $16.90!!!!!!! Wow! That is a huge mark up. I can’t believe that they actually think it’s ok to serve that and sell it for that much money. I am so disappointed and my total excitement was deflated. I didn’t order another thing. I was so insulted with that roll I just gave up. I can’t imagine how this place is actually still running. #whataletdown #sushifail I see all the raving reviews on here and maybe the fish really is fresh quality. I don’t know. I couldn’t taste any of it.

Fuji Sushi Upper King – Menu with Prices – 585 King St, Charleston

Let me start off by saying Fuji Sushi Upper King has some of the best sushi I’ve tried in my life. When I first had their spicy tuna roll, I wasn’t prepared with how soft and melt in your mouth the fish would be. I appreciate how they add avocado in the roll, which pairs perfectly with the tuna. I’ve tried almost all of their rolls, and I’ve never had a dud! Trust me when I say it’s all good. I’ve come here multiple times either on a date night or with a group of friends. Such a perfect place to share sushi rolls with people. The prices are great! Just another reason why I feel so comfortable coming back here time after time again. It’s so fun getting their boats full of different fresh fish. Definitely recommend you get if you’re with a group who aren’t afraid to try new foods. For my friends who aren’t huge fish eaters, there’s also a bunch of other food options for example, hibachi plates, poke bowls, or bao’s. There’s something here for everyone. Lastly, they have rooftop seating which is perfect throughout the entire year. It’s so beautiful up there with the soft breeze. Can’t wait to go back!

Mt. Fuji Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10301 N Rodney Parham Rd, Little Rock

I never leave reviews but this was the worst sushi experience I have had anywhere and I have eaten at some shady spots all over the US. The Volcano roll was mostly just rice, only a few pieces actually had shrimp in them. And it had enough spicy mayo on it for 3 Volcano rolls at any other restaurant. I was willing to overlook that because the Hurricane roll presentation looked so good. Then I tried the Hurricane roll and it was the worst roll I have ever had, didn’t even finish it. I even asked the waitress, which was great btw, if she would take my roll up to the chef and ask if they made the wrong one. The chef assured her that was actually spicy tuna and I asked where the green onions were and the chef pointed to one little green spec mixed in with the “spicy tuna” and said that was it. I am talking the size of the end of a toothpick spec of green onion. The major issue was that I truly believe that the “spicy tuna” was actually SPAM. It had the consistency and the flavor of SPAM. The “tuna” wasn’t even a shade of red like it should have been. I eat spicy tuna everywhere I go and I have never experienced anything like this. Oh and if you get the Veg. Yakisoba and don’t want over half your dish to be onions, ask for light onions. SAVE YOURSELF AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Zuki Japanese Bistro – Menu with Prices – 1401 E Arapaho Rd, Richardson

Small, yet quaint little shop tucked into a strip center. Price: fair to moderate Portions: large Taste: good This place is owned and run by an older couple and they’re soo cute! A friend and I tried this place for lunch, since it was in between our offices, and we’re glad that we did! We split two appetizers and four rolls. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs as I had to take the leftovers back and give to my coworkers. Items tried: Avacado Bomb – 5 large, deep fried pieces. Great and not scaldingingly hot Monkey Ball – this was almost a meal in of itself Crunch Roll – very large roll, at least 2 can share Caterpillar Roll – another large roll, maybe one person could finish this Tuna Roll – 6 pieces, good for one person Alaska Roll – huge roll, one person eat at your own risk! Overall, the taste is what you’d expect for decent sushi and the prices aren’t overwhelming. I would most definitely come back!

Azabu Miami Beach – Menu with Prices – 161 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach

Unfortunately not more than 2 stars and only due to a hard work of our server Carlos who was very knowledgeable and attentive. My husband and I are locals, we go out every other night to our favorite places but sometimes we like to try a new place for a change. We ordered tuna on a rice cracker, salmon dish and because of shellfish allergy we asked if possible to order a couple simple rolls (regular tuna and cucumber yellowtail with a soy paper) to start. I always order similar rolls in Nobu and it was never a problem. – It was a quite a bit wait to receive any food in spite of place being empty – Tuna on the top of rice cracker was a very pale pink color but tested ok – Salmon dish with mushrooms and rice was pretty good – Rolls had a very thick layer of rice and soy paper which made it very dry and not tasty at all I had to let the manager know that we didn’t like rolls actually I was polite saying it was not what we expected. She offered to try another dish. I asked if that would be possible to replace rolls with spicy tuna roll? For some reason she got very confused and she said she would have to ask the chef because rolls were a special order? by our request. So she took our rolls away, didn’t come back to our table, we never found out what the chef said but we got a spicy tuna roll brought to us which again was not the quality we expected and we didn’t eat. We decided to leave and asked for a bill. I was surprised to be charged for food that was taken away $24 and $27 for dried rolls and the spicy tuna roll on top of that. I felt it was not right and addressed it to manager again. As a result she took off the spicy tuna roll which was $14… Bottom line if you decide to eat here you’d better be liking everything served otherwise who cares? I have never had any issues with food quality, “special orders” or service in Nobu and would highly recommend to go eat there instead.

Eastwind Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 18555 N 59th Ave #124, Glendale

Unaccommodating to allergies. I can’t have spicy pepper and almost all of their lunch items are spicy. I asked if I could have the roll just not spicy and the waiter notified me that it would be a $2.00 upcharge even though on their regular menu a spicy salmon roll is $6.25 and a non spicy salmon roll is $6.50. The food is good and presented nicely. I ended up with the Shrimp Tempura roll lunch special one of the few things that wasn’t loaded with siracha and it was decent, like so many places though more cheap shredded fake crab stick than shrimp or avocado. The nigiri were fresh and tasted good. Salmon, red snapper, tuna and a shrimp. The miso was very tasty. The hot green tea was a nice lite green tea that I enjoyed and cost $2.75. It’s a shame that this restaurant like several others thinks there somehow saving money by upcharging for a very simple change. The real reason why spicy tuna or spicy salmon etc is used so much is that it’s the junk parts of the cheaper fish. Sad really… I would have like to give this place a 4 or better but their greed prevents it.
