My wife and I stopped in for lunch. Our server, Ally, was prompt, attentive, and courteous, just what I like about the best servers. The top shelf margarita was excellent. I take mine on the rocks with salt. We started with the complementary chips and salsa. The chips are freshly made and lightly salted. They were crisp and delicious. The green salsa has only a little bit of heat, the red has a bit more. Both were very tasty. The guacamole was a large helping, certainly enough for 3-4. It was average with a very mild avocado, light on the seasonings. My wife had a quesadilla. It was a bit thin on the cheese and she said it came with whatever had been on the grill before it (the grill should have been scraped clean before dropping the tortilla there). She was not a fan of the bell peppers in the quesadilla. I had the steak burrito, which is filled with carne asada. The steak was cooked perfectly for me, between medium rare and medium. It was also tender. The only problem with it was it was pretty bland. Carne asada should be a marinated steak. Either the marinade used is very mild or it was nonexistent. It certainly couldn’t be tasted. The accompanying Spanish rice was very good. The refried beans had a bit of an odd taste that I couldn’t identify. If you come for the drinks, chips and salsa, I can recommend the Sandbar. The kitchen seems a toss-up at the moment. We might come back to try some other menu items. But, when the basics are inconsistent, it might be a while.

Tipzys Tacos – Menu with Prices – 3848 E Belmont Ave, Fresno

It’s ok. We tried a variety: Carne asada tacos: meat was kinda bland,my wife’s taco had burned bits. Chicken tacos: bland, no flavor really at all Shrimp tacos: my favorite of the three, but that’s not saying much. Carne asada quesadilla: my son said the one from Taco Bell is as good. Asada fries: crinkle cut frozen fries with mozzarella cheese and carne asada. Fine because we were hungry. Probably wouldn’t have rung bells if we weren’t starved. Chips – you get a basket of chips with paprika or chili powder on them. They are $1.25 and you don’t get anything with them. Don’t get me wrong, they have a salsa bar but they only had tiny little cups- like 2tsp – to put salsa in and wouldn’t give us anything bigger. Super lame, that. As far as the actual salsas- the pico was the best thing about this dinner. Jalapeños were tiny- good knife skills- so you got that yummy fresh pop of hot without it being overwhelming. The ancho chili salsa is good, my wife said the green one was good. The carrots looked gross, I didn’t get any. The cabbage was diced, which I thought was weird. It was also in a container filled to the brim with water. Maybe to keep the cabbage fresh but anything I put cabbage on (how I usually like my tacos) tasted predominantly like water. Not good. No fountain drinks, you buy by the can (or bottle for water) and drink it from the can/bottle. We didn’t have any beer. Murals were beautiful, the rest of the decor was dated and uncomfortable.

Carniceria Latina Menu with Prices 2272 S Chambers Rd, Aurora

I’m Asian but grew up in Southern Cali (don’t hate), so I have lived in neighborhoods where the carne asada couldn’t be beat. I brought 3 lbs of carne asada from this place to a small party and it was the very first thing gone, and not without numerous compliments. So. Friggin’. Tasty. They package the fresh meat with marinade upon order in a plastic bag with a few citrus slices. I grilled it within 3 hours of buying it and it was marinated perfectly and tender to boot. My Spanish is horrible. I tried to speak for the sake courtesy, but English-only speakers should not be shy or intimidated about coming here, they cater to all cultures. The employees are so kind!

Bobby D’s Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 2139 N Tustin St # 1, Orange

more like 3.5 stars out of 5. its been a while since i’ve been back here. I was craving mexican food today and didn’t want to drive to santa ana to get some. We ended up getting a two item combo with enchilada and Chile relleno (i believe all plates comes with cheese and beans) and a california burrito. honestly, the california burrito is very very plain and boring. even adding salsa to it, it was still bland. the carne asada was kinda dry and the burrito only has sour cream and fries in it along with the meat… they do have cheese on top, but it didn’t really help the flavor. as for the two item combo, it was really good and packed full of flavor. They have a salad bar with lemon/limes, mild/medium/spicy salsa. I like the fact that they have reusable small dishes. i hate when other places only give small disposable cups for the salsa. you can’t fill that much in those small cups. They have a coke multiple choice machine. I welcome these machines, as i can try many different flavors. They will give you chips in the beginning while you wait for your food. They also have two TVs inside, typically playing sports.

Mama Mia Panaderia & Market – Menu with Prices – 731 S Arizona Ave, Chandler

While staying in Chandler I decided to have a BBQ since our hotel had grills available by the pool. I passed this place earlier in the day whlie exploring downtown Chandler. I’m glad I found Mama Mia! They had nice cuts of carne and when I ordered it they marinated it on the spot. It was perfect! The marinade was not too citrusy like some tend to be, nor was it too spicy. It was well balanced in flavors from cumin, cilantro, onions, garlic, some citrus. I can’t tell you what they’re secret is, but next time I’m back in Chandler I’m definitely coming here for Carne Asada!

Bohemian Latin Grill – Menu with Prices – 3341 NE 32nd St, Fort Lauderdale

I would seriously give this restaurant 10 stars if I could! As it happened, we were newly arrived to Ft. Lauderdale and had been told we should go to a sports bar not far from our hotel. En route, we passed a funky little joint called 4:30 Boardroom Bar, and just a foot farther, a sandwich sign advertising Taco Tuesday $2.00 sitting in front of an unassuming little storefront called Bohemian Latin Grill. Now, not ones to pass up a Taco Tuesday opportunity, we grabbed a couple of beers from 4:30 BB, a couple of chairs outdoors, then popped into BLG to place an order. I ordered two carne asada tacos with cilantro and onions, paid the $4.33, and was told they’d bring them outside to us. A couple of minutes and one bite later, I was completely speechless. It’s important to note that I’ve eaten a LOT of authentic tacos in my life growing up in southern California, Texas, and traveling through Mexico. This freakin’ taco was AMAZING. The meat was so tender and melted in my mouth so quickly I barely needed to chew. The flavor of the marinade was unlike anything I’m familiar with (of course, that’s the first time I’ve eaten steak since I was a small child), but I wanted more!!!! Next we ordered two chorizo tacos with cilantro and onions. Spicy and still juicy, we were extremely impressed with these as well. The salsa accompaniment with both sets was available in mild and hot. We opted for the hot and found it to be very flavorful without removing your taste buds. Three nights later we basically RAN back for a late night snack after having just gotten off the water taxi (review posted). This time we ordered the nachos (because a patron at 4:30 BB had recommended them on Tuesday), and two more carne asada tacos. The nachos are piled high with a deliciously creamy cheese sauce, black beans, pico de gallo, and generous pile of guacamole, I added the carne asada as well. Boy was I ever a happy, happy girl! I literally sat there licking my fingers – AGAIN! There are so many items on the menu at Bohemian Latin Grill that I cannot wait to try the next time we’re in Florida. Until then, I can dream of the day I once again get to enjoy such amazingly fresh and authentic food.

Señor Taco – Menu with Prices – 1929 North Power Road #, 105 # 105, Mesa

Senor Taco is a taste-better alternative to the world of Filiberto’s and all the knockoffs. That single statement sums up the Senor Taco food line up, monster entrees and decent pricing. What you will find are burritos, tacos and other items that compare reasonably to Filiberto’s but are both better tasting and somewhat unique. The first time guest should try the carne asada burrito which is a strong item. People who are hungry could try the California Surfin burrito- a massive entree with carne asada, shrimp and French fries in a burrito wrap. Crazy fun and tasty. For those who can eat an entire cow in one sitting, I dare you to try to finish off a Senor Burrito. This double wrapped carne asada burrito with potatoes and lots of other goodies has got to be at least 2 lbs of shear burrito glory. Not for the weak. The chips are tasty, and the salsa bar is very good, well kept and fresh. The flavors are a bit spicier than the other fast food Mexican chains, but they are just perfect. I love the medium red salsa. Prices are reasonable, with most burritos staying between 5-8 dollars, but the monster teo I mentioned above range all the way to $10, which is still a great deal if you consider the humungous volume for those items. The staff is quick and polite, and your order will be ready pretty fast. Everything is made to order so it could be 5 min for some things but you’ll be eating in no time. This place is the best fast food Mexican available.

Little Vice – Menu with Prices – 3317 E 7th St, Long Beach

I was hoping for more from this adorable new restaurant in town. The decor couldn’t be cuter. It’s bright, vibrant, and full of interesting patterns. They have a fun bar and cute outdoor patio, although the sun was right in our eyes during sunset. I would call this a hipster/skater modern Mexican restaurant. They have a good cocktail menu and even craft beer flights. I could see myself coming back for some drinks. Unfortunately we didn’t think the food was very good. Shrimp Quesadilla: This was super tasty! We loved it. And it was the first thing we ordered so it really set our expectations high. The garlic butter poached shrimp were juicy and plentiful amongst the 3-cheese blend. The tortilla was perfectly crisped and we enjoyed the unique topping of pineapple pico, pickled red onions, cilantro and cotija cheese. Chips and Salsa: This was $6!!! And It wasn’t even good! We got the salsa verde. It was super thick, like a paste. And it was really sour. Too much tomatillo perhaps? We didn’t even want this. It was a misunderstanding when we asked a different server for a side of salsa to dip our quesadilla in. But my bf wanted to pay for it instead of clearing it up. Pollo Asado Taco: Grilled chicken topped with caramelized onion, cilantro chimichurri and cotija cheese. This was $5 and we were told that it was “packed full” but honestly I thought it was worth $3.50 tops. My bf liked this but I didn’t like the texture of the chicken. It might have been thigh meat. Carne Asada Torta: Their tortas are served on amazing Gusto Bread made right in Long Beach. The bread was great on its own but much too dense for a torta. I liked this better than the taco but the bread sort of overtook it and I think there was mayo on it which I wasn’t a fan of. The carne asada wasn’t bad but was a tad overcooked. I’m sort of surprised to see all the super high reviews. Maybe the food was too hip for me? Maybe we came on a bad night? I wouldn’t mind coming back for a drink and the quesadilla but that’s about it. Without drinks we spent $50.

Taqueria Sabor y Sazon – Menu with Prices – 2018 S Blue Island Ave, Chicago

Really enjoyed the tacos here but the hype about the tortillas and creamy green sauce left me disappointed. If you dine in, your meal will start with complimentary chips and three varieties of salsa. The salsas range in spiciness with the creamy green (jalapeño, tomatillo and sour cream base) being the mildest and the red packing the most heat from the red chiles. I love spice but preferred the flavor of the other green salsa best (think tomatillo and jalapeño with no sour cream). We all got tacos and tried the carne asada (steak), al pastor (marinated pork) and shrimp. All the protein was well flavored and free of excess fat. Dressed in cilantro and onions, the tacos were tasty but not mind-blowing. The tortillas also didn’t blow me away. They were better than store bought for sure but could’ve been better. Inside is small and set up to accommodate parties of 4 max. They’ll push an extra table over to make room for 6 because they’re nice. No liquor license for margaritas but you can BYOB and try the delicious horchata.

The Seafood Company – Menu with Prices – 4775 E Kings Canyon Rd, Fresno

We found out about this place because they are on the news and we decided to drive from out of town to try. The food looked good and We like to try new places. The reviews on here are really really good. So maybe we were expecting some out of this world seafood. We got a little of everything We ordered shrimp tacos, they were out of the crab tostada so we got the ceviche tostada ,fried shrimp, fish and chips, a carne asada burrito and a burger with Fries ….I never had shrimp tacos quite like these. The shrimp was fried and chopped up into small tiny pieces on two tortillas it came with pico on the side and that’s it! Very plain in my opinion could have used some cabbage some sauce or salsa and a piece of lemon. The shrimp ceviche was ok. The burger was big and came with good fries my son ate it all. The fish has a good spicy taste but had some bones still In it. My mom ordered 1/2 pound of fried shrimp she had a choice from the small medium or large. She went with the medium, but the shrimp was pretty small came with veins but we didn’t care we still ate it lol. None of the seafood came out with lemon so maybe you have to ask for it. The carne asada burrito was ok. We all agreed the best thing we liked was that it was inexpensive. We left pretty happy about that! Overall we enjoyed a inexpensive meal. They also have a fish market counter and a very nice young lady attending the counter.

Ricos Tacos De Jalisco – Menu with Prices – 396 S Mt Vernon Ave, San Bernardino

We ordered a Carne Asada Torta, carne Asada sope, and a carne Asada taco. It was all pretty good and could be worth a return. Still looking to find a great spot so for now this up there in my list of good places to eat. It’s pretty lively at night and the champurrado was delicious but pricey $2.95 for a small. My total order was around $16.45 which is my only issue it’s pretty expensive for the area.

El Pirata Seafood and Grill – Menu with Prices – 1241 W Memory Ln, Santa Ana

This became my go-to place for Mexican food for a little while! The food was delicious. The service was great. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of the entrees. However, the restaurant recently changed ownership and went downhill ever since. I used to order the carne asada plate. The meat was well-seasoned and proportionate to the pricing. They were generous with the rice and beans. The chips and salsa were perfect. The pick de Gallo and guacamole were on point. I would leave incredibly satisfied. The last time I went, I ordered the carne asada plate as usual. The meat was tasteless, rubbery, and the portion was skimpy to say the least. The rice and beans portion sizes were not even adequate for a kid’s meal. I felt robbed. Additionally, the waitress was overworked as she was apparently the only one on duty and completely ignored us for the second half of our meal. When she finally brought us another basket of chips 15 minutes after we asked for them, she just walked by and dropped the chips on the table without saying a word or asking how everything was going. I used to love this place, but unfortunately, it’s not the same restaurant anymore. Sad.

Tacos El Cuate De Obregon – Menu with Prices – 4817 S 12th Ave, Tucson

What a gem this taco truck is. We hit it up before heading out to Beerfest in Tempe. I can only speak to the Sonoran dogs and the carne asada, but WOW WOW wow… wow.. ok. The Sonoran dogs are really great! I have had sonoran dogs from BK, El Guero, Karamelo King, etc. Their Sonoran dogs are just as good, if not better. They also include a bacon wrapped cheese filled pepper with the dogs… those are pretty fantastic as well. The carne asada I ordered came in two forms… tacos and a caramello. I think I was hungry that day. The carne asada is legit here, and believe me, I order carne asada from every Mexican place I hit up. I just have to say, if you happen to be driving by and wanting some good taco truck food, don’t pass this one up. Oh, I am pretty sure it is cash only as well.
