I was here a couple weeks ago for a golf tournament, and this course is awesome! Before you read further, I am around an 18 handicap and shoot in the mid to high 80’s at an average course, and low to mid 90’s at a tougher course. Granted, I did not have to pay normal greens fees since we were playing in a best-ball tournament, but it’s right around $40 for a round to walk. For the quality of the course, I would be willing to come back for this price. I will say that there are some pretty good climbs and distance between certain holes (crossing the road on a few) so if you don’t usually walk, I would suggest getting a cart. The range doesn’t look like much when you are approaching it, but it is very large and well-marked with yardage signs. The layout of the course is great, with challenging, long holes even from the white (middle) tees. Just to give you an idea, on one of the par 5’s a teammate drove it nearly 360 yards (downhill all the way) and we were still sitting around 230-240 into the green. Also, you definitely have to be able to control your ball off the tee, because you will not find it if you hit through the rough. With that being said, there are a few shorter holes (300-350 yards) that will give you a couple of options leading up. You can try and drive it close for an easy pitch, or play it short and leave yourself an easy wedge into the green. Speaking of greens, they are TOUGH. Our team couldn’t seem to make many putts that were over 15 feet. You definitely want to be conscious of the green before hitting your approach shot because the greens have a lot of break to them. For us it seemed really easy to 2-putt because we’d get the speed down, but the ball would always seem to end up just a bit above or below the hole, even after reading each other’s putts. The staff was really accommodating for us as a group and the food that we had for lunch was great! Our group wound up winning so we had some gift cards to the pro shop. They had 30% off of all apparel and 20% off of shoes, and some really good brands. Obviously not a huge selection, but pretty good prices. I picked up a Titleist glove and some Footjoy shoes for around $110. Overall, I was really happy that I got to play in the tournament we held at this course. You only get one chance at a first impression, and this course left a great one on me. I plan on being back again this summer!

SummerGlen Golf Course – Menu with Prices – 1450 SW 154th Street Rd, Ocala

I played the SummerGlen Golf Club outside of Ocala, Florida, on 12/2/15 while driving from Clearwater to Myrtle Beach. The par 72 course is located in a gated retirement community about 2.5 miles directly off I-75 at Exit 341 for Dunellon. The course was easy to find. You can’t see the course from the Interstate because there is a high berm all around the community. On some holes this berm works to the player’s advantage because it kicked shots back toward the fairway. I had driven past the community on numerous occasions and knew a course was there but never had time to stop and play. I played the Blue tees which is one of six sets of tees available. The Blue tees play to 6,261 yards with a rating of 69.5 and slope of 125. The various tees play from 6,673 yards for the Gold tees to the Purple tees of 4,081 yards with a rating of 63.7 and slope of 100. The design is the centerpiece of a retirement community, and as such, is very playable for players of all abilities if they play the right set of tee boxes. The tees and greens were all elevated and it looked as if there were ponds or marsh areas that had dried up on almost every hole. When I asked if these areas had all been water at one point, I was told no. I don’t know if walking was an option, but the course looked very walkable. I had my Sky Caddie which of course helped when playing an unfamiliar course. You do need to call ahead for a tee time as the guard at the gate had my name on a tee sheet and checked before issuing a pass to enter. Most of the holes were different from each other and presented some unique challenges because some of the greens were very small and/or well-guarded. I took pictures of a few holes. Because the many of the holes had wide landing areas, I felt comfortable trying to cut loose with big swings off some of the tees. The 11th hole, in particular, is a teaser because it was 297 yards from the blue tee (confirmed by the Sky Caddie), goes over water to the left, and features a green blocked by tall trees left and right. I couldn’t resist the challenge and took the ball on a straight line over the tall trees, and was able to clear everything and leave an approach from about 20 yards to the pin. Some of the other holes had wide enough landing areas to invite ‘letting the big dog eat’. The course has par five finishing holes on the 9th and 18th holes with a dogleg left on #9 skirting the driving range, and a slight dogleg right on #18 with a forced carry on the second shot if you hit the first shot far enough. Service I called the course a day ahead and was encouraged to come up and play. Everybody was very friendly and encouraged coming back. The starter/cart attendant at the end of both nines asked me how I liked the course, and other players I ran into were all very friendly. There was drinking water on four holes. I did notice two bathroom facilities on the 5th and 15th holes. There are a lot of houses around the course, and personal golf carts were everywhere. Overall Condition The course was in good condition throughout all eighteen holes. All of the fairways and roughs were in good shape, and the conditioning is geared toward the retired residents. The greens were a little slower than I am used to, and were small and firm and held shots well. All greens seemed to putt true. Sand traps were not numerous, but were in acceptable condition. Clubhouse/Amenities This course has a restaurant in the clubhouse and it seemed well used and busy. There were plenty of personal golf carts parked outside of it without golf clubs on them when I made the turn. There was also a generous driving range and practice green, but I didn’t get to utilize any of those facilities due to time constraints. Value I played the course at 10:44 AM at a rate of $36 plus tax. I did ask if they had a senior rate and the girl laughed because she said almost everybody there was a senior. Huntington Hills Golf and Country Club – Menu with Prices – 2626 Duff Rd, Lakeland

Honestly, I was rather suprised that this layout was quite good. My expectations were low. I booked this course for the first time for meeting a friend from Orlando as we wanted a golf course that gave us an equal drive to/from our respective homes. We play a lot of golf courses and were both impressed by the quality landscaping, elevation changes, practice areas and overall laid back nature of the property. I’d probably play about a half-dozen shots completely different on a second visit, but I did not know any better today since I was literally playing blind without a yardage book and without anyone who knew the course. That should also tell you there’s some creativity in its design. The Par 3’s play long, while many Par 4’s play on the shorter side. Par 5’s are legit and greens are large. Greens and fairways were hard, with fairways in average condition as probably the only real downside to the whole experience. Putting on these greens is not easy at all. There’s a ton of subtle slope in many of them and we caught quite a few difficult hole locations on this particular day. For those of you who know other Tampa Bay Area golf courses, I would compare some holes here to Sherman Hills and a few others to Countryside Country Club or Lake Jovita. That’s a compliment. Because my friend was playing his first 18 holes off a serious lower leg injury that required surgery and over two months of rest and rehabilitation, we played blue tees at just over 6000 yards and found it very fair at that distance. (Tips add about 500 more yards to the card) We paid a rack rate of $38 for the weekday, late morning tee time direct from the pro shop. Pace of play was fine after the first 5-6 holes and we were actually done in just over 3 1/2 hours with a brisk pace on the back nine.

TPC Treviso Bay – Menu with Prices – 9800 Treviso Bay Blvd, Naples

Pro V1 practice balls at the driving range. The entire course, plus the practice facility, was super lush and green. Putting surfaces on the greens were in great shape with very few ball marks, although some weak spots were observed on the perimeter and outside collars. GPS distances via Android tablets in the golf carts. Interactive hole maps to determine layup distances on par 5s and trouble spots on par 4s on tee off and approach shots. Ice contained in the on-board cooler. Full service bathroom structures as well as water coolers in between. Towel included in golf cart. Did not see a beer-cart boy/girl/woman/man. Would absolutely play here again. Pace of play, two-some, 18 holes, under 4 hours with one group letting us play through. Overall excellent course, beautiful scenery, would absolutely play here again.

Onion Creek Club Menu with Prices 2510 Onion Creek Pkwy, Austin

Every year the organization I am involved with through my job hosts a charity golf tournament. I have been involved with it for the past 4 years and every year the tournament is hosted a different golf course. Onion Creek is a private club. You can only play here is you are a member, know a member or playing in a tournament. It is a beautiful property and area of the city. The staff that we worked with were all super nice and helpful as well. All the feedback I got from everyone was that they loved playing here because of the elite status of the course and they normally don’t get to play it. It is a beautiful course and plays well. One thing that I heard from some of the golfers was that it was hard to figure out which hole was which when getting started because the holes aren’t numbered. One other thing that could have been better in my opinion was the food. It was ok. We had burgers and chips. – nothing fancy. If you are looking for a course to play this is definitely a place to consider if you live in the area or know a member.

Lone Tree Golf Club – Menu with Prices – 6262 S Mountain Blvd, Chandler

I took two out of town friends as they wanted to golf somewhere other than my Club. The course was enjoyable to play, ultra dry on the fairways so the ball really rolled a long way. The greens were very fast but we adapted.When we checked in we were told that we would be joined by a fourth, a man whose young son was riding with him. We were OK with this but a bit surprised when we found out that the boy had his own clubs. And he was five years old! The lad was not really mis-behaved, just a typical child of that age. He was allowed by his dad to hit some shots down the fairway and to drop a ball on each green to practice putting. He often did so in front of one of our balls and seemed oblivious to us when we were attempting our own putts. At one point I hit a decent shot about 10 feet from the pin but when I approached the green after getting out my putter, my ball had disappeared. The little boy had picked it up and put it in his pocket!He only golfed the first nine because his Mom was picking him up. On the tenth tee I heard music playing pretty clearly and assumed it was coming from one the houses along the fairway. I kept hearing music and thought a lot of people were enjoying a nice day in their backyards, listening to their favourite tunes. I eventually clued in. Our fourth had turned on a portable Bluetooth player in his cart for the back nine. I got used to the music though it seemed a bit strange.We are retired seniors, high handicappers and pretty laid back. So this did not really get under our skin and certainly did not spoil the round. I must admit, though, that I felt $90 (including tax and booking fees) was far too much for this ‘experience’.I told my regular golf partner about this and I said that a lot of people would have complained about having to golf with a five year old. He said, ‘well a lot of people would complain if they had to play with you.’ Got me!!

The Palencia Club – Menu with Prices – 600 Palencia Club Dr, St. Augustine

Had the chance to play the ‘private’ course a couple weeks ago on a group golf trip. When driving up to the community it’s actually really nice and breathtaking, even driving up on the course it was pretty spectacular, then we began playing…After teeing off on the first hole, we had to change the rules to roll the fairways for the match because the fairways were dead, not just in spots but it was like hitting off a surface that was not tended to in months. When we thought it couldn’t be any worse we approached our shots on the green and it had appeared that the greens were just re-done and there were sod grooves on every single green. If you were parallel to the cup you better had hoped that the you didn’t have too much break to overcome or your ball would have gotten hung up in one of the sod lines, just terrible. Somehow I managed to stay in the high 80’s on this round, considering the poor condition, I would take that as a win. Cool layout, good scenery, has crazy potential, not sure if they are losing members or new ownership but something is up because that course was in terrible condition, worse than some municipal courses I’ve played.

The centerpiece of the club is the 18-hole championship golf course designed by architect Steve Nugent. This scenic, par 72 layout can play as tough or as easy as you like; it all depends on the tees you choose. Doglegs, well-manicured water hazards and strategically placed bunkers will challenge golfers of all abilities. Sloped fairways and elevation changes add to the challenge. The course favors a well thought out strategy from a straight hitter over a longball hitter although length is a definite advantage on a couple of the par 5 holes. The greens are well-manicured and feature considerable undulation to challenge your putting game. Keep your tee shots in the fairway and your approach shots below the hole and youâ??re bound to do well. There are several memorable holes out here, but none more than the closing hole on each nine. Number 9 is a par 4 that plays 405 yards from the White Tees and takes two very well executed shots to reach the green Youâ??ll want to keep the ball right of the tee to avoid the water that runs down the left of the fairway. The water sits well below the raised fairway so, even if you flirt with the left side, youâ??ll most likely leave yourself a tough approach shot. If youâ??re playing up the right side, be sure to avoid the pot bunker, which also makes for a difficult 2nd. Your approach shot plays downhill to a large green that is fronted by a big oak tree on the right side and a lake on the left. Anything hit to the right will likely find the sand. The green slopes severely from back to front. No wonder why this is the #1 handicapped hole on the course.From the White Tees, Number 18 is a short par 5 that plays 468 yards and has a large pond that must be carried to get on the green. The hole plays slightly downhill and has several oaks along the way that hug the fairway. A good drive leaves a great risk/reward opportunity, but youâ??ll have to carry your shot onto this shallow green. A large bunker on the right side in the landing area in fro

Corner Pocket Billiards – Menu with Prices – 518 E Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

This place has 6 regular tables and 6 billiard tables (you know, the kind with no pockets!) Not a bad room setup to play in casually with a friend or two. But if you are a higher level player, don’t expect a top of the line room and equipment. The table my partner and I was put on had holes in the cloth and they insist you break using a ragged little square of cloth under the cue ball. Why????? They told us it’s to protect the cloth but guess what … It didn’t work! Oh! And neither does the AC I guess because both times we were in, it was really hot in the place. There was a friendly guy at the counter (Mike-I think??) when we went on a weekend but a return trip on an evening, we ran into a white-haired guy you’ll want to avoid. Pretty grouchy like we were interrupting him and wasn’t really into customer service. No food is made on the premises but they allow you to bring in your own and they have chips and cookies for sale. No soda fountain either so no ice for your sodas but according to my partner the beer was cold. Music was ok but had interference from the sports on the TV and in the evening the music was cranked so you had a hard time conversing especially if you’re trying to dis your opponent! LOL The price to play during the day is decent but watch that you’re not overcharged if you play more than a couple of hours. I think they give the regulars/locals a break on the hourly cost but I’m not certain on that. So will we go back a third time? Sorry, too many other places to play to put up with a hot room with only 6 tables that aren’t in good shape and iffy service.

Remington Golf Club – Menu with Prices – 2995 Remington Blvd, Kissimmee

If I could rate this golf course in the negatives I would! This course is one of the worst golf courses I have ever played and it is an absolute waste of money! I played in a tournament here over the weekend not knowing the conditions and when I should up I thought I was on a Goat pasture. The course is absolutely horrible with bare dirt everywhere and absolutely no difference between rough and fairway. Every bunker had no sand in it and dirt was clearly visible. The golf course literally looks like it shut down 15 years ago and has not been maintained since. Not a single green was cut the same making it impossible to make a single putt, it was also so bumpy it was like putting of the road. The fairways were barren of any grass and the only good lies you get are if you place the ball on a weed. The staff at the golf course, if You can even call it that, are extremely rude. We showed up for a 9 am shot gun and were told the director of golf decided to send everyone off of 1 instead so he could put public play out on the back nine. Mean while 70 college club golfers are now sitting around for 3 hours waiting for each one of us to tee off. Oh and the first day wasn’t any better when we showed up and the club had sent out to many public groups out before the tournament so they ran out of carts for us so we had to delay 70 groups an hour to wait for carts to begin the shotgun start . The tournament was booked 3 months in advance so they should have been prepared! I absolutely advise you to not spend your money out here and to not give your money to these rude people. There are 1000 better golf course to play in the local area with much nicer people for the money.

Royal Oaks Golf Club – Menu with Prices – 11220 SW 69th Cir, Ocala

This review is for the golf course. This course is pretty tough, and has a rather high slope rating. I will say that it has the best greens I have played this year in central Florida. This being said, they are also some of the fastest greens. I highly recommend taking advantage of the awesome practice green before setting out onto the links. I got an awesome deal on Golf Now, so I don’t know how much it would be for 18 holes … probably something like 40 bucks or so, but that would be worth it. Nearly all of the tee boxes were in very good shape, one was a bit rough. They aerated the fairways and some of the tee boxes last week, but by today, they were all in good shape. It is called Royal Oaks, and the Oaks are a royal pain! I must have hit a dozen trees, and lost a consummate amount of balls during the course of play. It seemed slow, but we finished the 18 holes in 3 hours and 45 minutes … just a little slower than my normal 3:30 pace. Of course there is water, and restrooms on the course, and both were a welcome relief at the appropriate times. Keep your eyes out for the wild turkeys … they are brave, and maybe even a little rude. They walked up to one of the greens I was on, and didn’t even say sorry.

Kelley’s North Bowl – Menu with Prices – 8701 N 30th St, Omaha

This place is your classic bowling alley from your youth (you know that 70’s/80’s vibe) with the early 90’s ‘Cosmic Bowling’ upgrades. While it may be a little dingy, it has all of your bases covered. Full bar with ‘bar food’ and a probably a couple old men drinking, check. 70’s and 80’s rock playing overhead, check. And in case you forgot your shoes, ball and cool wrist brace, they have you covered. Classic rental bowling shoes freshly sprayed down with sanitizer, and a wide variety of balls to see if your fingers fit! The lanes do have gutter guards for the kids as well. All in all, this place isn’t that bad if you want to go with friends or family for an hour or so and have some cheap fun. There are a lot of lanes, and it usually isn’t busy. Grab a bucket of beer, and when the kids get bored, give them some quarters to go play some of their video games.
