I liked this restaurant from the moment I walked inside. I can’t quite put my finger on why. It’s located in the group of shops and restaurants east of Powerline and just north of 18th around the lake. They had just opened for the day and there was a sign to walk through to the main dining room. The place is huge inside. A couple separate areas that would be good for private meals; a large bar; a sushi bar, plus a large outside covered area on the water. We chose to sit at the sushi bar. The menu has a lot of offerings and is well organized and reasonably priced. There were quite a few things that sounded good so it was hard to make a decision of what to order. I started with their lobster and shrimp wonton soup. It’s plain — just a clear broth with the won tons in it, but it was good. My husband had a coconut based Thai soup with shrimp. He said it was okay — he prefers more coconut. After that I had their cucumber wrapped krab and avocado roll. It was beautifully presented and delicious. My husband had their sushi starter — 5 pieces of the chef’s choice of fish. It turned out to be 2 tuna, 2 salmon, and one escolar. The fish pieces were quite generous in size. For dessert, we shared some green tea ice cream — a nice palate cleanser. There are lunch specials during the week; a kids menu; lots of rolls, soups, salads, noodles, rice dishes, and meals from duck to steak. You will not have a problem finding something you’d like to eat here.

Kodo Sushi Sake – Menu with Prices – 2430 S Gilbert Rd Suite 5, Chandler

Saturday night, around 5pm, friendly hostess seated us. Wife wanted to try the pork gyoza. We received them in 15 minutes. Thick, rather chewy, but crunchy. Not terrible, but not a great start. I ordered the omakase, chefs choice nigiri. Platter contained an assortment of 13 pieces. Bear with me as I describe them individually. 2 pieces of scrumptious salmon with a smoky, tangy glaze. 2 pieces of the best octopus I’ve ever tasted. Tender, and beautifully charred. An entire UNI on a rather skimpy bit of rice. Other pieces included white fish, tuna, crab and a couple of slivers of raw shrimp, which I found inedible. Unless the shrimp was alive when it hits the plate, it doesn’t taste fresh. My wife’s shrimp tempura roll was average, at best. I prefer sushi white rice to the purple variety, but didn’t let that influence my review. So, overall, some excellent, some average. Server was pleasant, though we could see some confusion in the room, as other servers brought food to wrong tables several times. Don’t see us returning right away.

Nadima?s Sushi & Mongolian Express – Menu with Prices – 23211 Hawthorne Blvd Unit 100, Torrance

Torrance Food Crawl #380 Nadima’s Sushi and Coffee is located at the intersection of Hawthorne & Lomita, tucked around the corner from the Subway sandwich shop. The menu is primarily oriented towards sushi and sushi rolls, though there are some Mongolian style dishes and ice cream to choose from. The Mountain Roll (http://bit.ly/2OjbdOL) contained rice, crab, tuna, salmon, avocado, and tuna & eel sauces. It was cut into four diagonal pieces, placed together to look like a small mountain. Cute touch. The fish was very fresh, and the sauces added a nice mild spice flavor. Holding the roll together was a very thin, almost transparent, soy paper wrap. On the side was some cabbage-based salad, ginger, wasabi, and a couple of orange slices for a post-meal refresher. Very good. At one of my visits here, I got a free tuna and vegetable salad (http://bit.ly/2K0bDnN), very nice. Both times I’ve been here, once sitting inside and the other for takeout, they offered some miso soup (http://bit.ly/2Y1pcNC); they probably were identical the two times I was here but for whatever reason, I better liked the one I received the first time, perhaps because they provided more soup when I was eating there. The Mixed Sushi (http://bit.ly/2MlxpFp) normally comes with four pieces of sushi, but mine had five, tuna, salmon, shrimp, and white fish, separated by thin lemon slices. The fish and shrimp were very fresh. The sides were the same as before, a cabbage-based salad, ginger, wasabi, and orange slices. Good. I also tried the Seaweed Salad (http://bit.ly/30STS0m), on the side. It was fresh and mild tasting. Inside there are a few tables where you can eat if you want. The service was excellent both times, a warm and friendly environment. For takeout sushi, Nadima’s is a nice place to try out.

Zushi Japanese Bistro – Menu with Prices – 4540 Main St, Virginia Beach

Great sushi place within walking distance of my hotel. I always need to get some sort of sashimi when I go for sushi. Here I got the Chirashi which came with a choice of salad or miso soup. I went with the salad. I love love love ginger dressing so yeah, salad for me. Real basic, but good. Veggies were fresh and the dressing was what I was expecting. The chirashi is sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. This one had some pickled vegetables as well. The rice was great sushi rice, a little sweet and cooked well. The pickled veggies included ginger, cucumber and squash (maybe??? not sure), all good. The wasabi was a good quality. Strong and smooth. There were two pieces of Tamagoyaki (japanese omelet thing that’s a little sweet). I’m never a fan of this or really any egg really (so don’t take my opinion on this part into account). I did eat it so that should mean something. Now the fish. It tasted super fresh. The tuna had a beautiful coloring, the salmon was marbled well (can fish be marbled? Well it is now). In addition there was white tuna, shrimp and two other fish but I can’t recall what type. Regardless all were great with tuna being the king of the dish.

Hibachi Express Highland City – Menu with Prices – 5209 US Hwy 98 S, Lakeland

This is my favorite restaurant for sushi! The staff is always so friendly and I can order my food ahead and come straight in and pick it up. My favorite dish is the pink lady sushi roll. It is salmon, tuna, krab, cream cheese, avocado and fish eggs wrapped around the pink soy paper and under it is spicy mayo and eel sauce. The ingredients are always so fresh and delicious every time I get it, it is literally the best sushi roll I have ever had. The soy paper almost melts in your mouth. The only negative thing I could say is I wish they would wrap it a little tighter because it’s a big roll and unless you eat it in one bite it falls apart. The 2nd roll I got on this day was the crazy tuna roll. It is pretty much raw tuna on top of a spicy tuna roll. I think a lot of people would like this but I am not a huge fan and it is just because I do not care for their spicy tuna. I prefer fresh tuna and adding my own spices. The spicy tuna has an odd consistency and I don’t care for the flavor. I don’t usually get their hibachi meals anymore but I have and I get the shrimp lunch. It’s $7.25 for a huge meal with the shrimp, rice and vegetables with your drink included which is such a great deal!! Sometimes when I am on a diet I will just get the shrimp lunch with extra veggies instead of rice and it is yummy! It doesn’t quite taste as good as the hibachi you sit down and it but it is still good and WAY cheaper. I would recommend this place anytime!! I went there last week a friend and I order a sushi roll each in advance and we still had to wait 20mins which is insane. We let a nice young man up at the front know we were waiting he apologized and brought us free soup and drinks!!

New Deal Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 622 Cambridge St, Cambridge

Went here for the first time to get some sushi-grade fish so my wife and I could try making sushi. In the same boat? This is your place. The fish selection is small but good (although I felt the tuna we got wasn’t really a good choice for sushi). It’s slightly larger than your grocery store fish counter, and all of the fish looks great. The store also carries pretty much everything you need for sushi making: rice, nori, sesame, even fresh ingredients like ginger. I was impressed with how much stuff they had for sushi making here, and I expect us to come back soon. The only thing I wish is that they had more traditional sushi fish like eel and other kinds of tuna. On the other hand, they have some fish I’ve never heard of and would love to try. Recommended

Sakuraya sushi – Menu with Prices – 7522 E Chapman Ave, Orange

3.5 stars We came in for lunch on a Sunday and the place was pretty empty. We seated ourselves at the sushi bar and perused the menu. We decided on the sashimi platter for ~$28 that came with 18 pieces of fish, salmon, albacore, tuna, a couple different white fishes. The pieces were very very big but the fish wasn’t buttery. We didn’t even eat all of the plate Mixed tempura was a slightly too crispy, not in the flakey delicious way but a hard shell kind of way. The tempura dipping sauce was good The kid got the lunch special with 3 kinds of half sushi rolls and a miso soup for ~$14 he really enjoyed it The box roll had too much rice. It was basically a layer of rice in a box mold topped with minced tuna topped with more rice and then more tuna and avocado. If you like rice then this is for you. I’m not a big fan We also ordered a rice free roll with cucumber it was good Lunch was $95 for 3 people and we didn’t even have sake

Oishi Sushi – Menu with Prices – 924 Kaliste Saloom Rd, Lafayette

VERY small establishment, so plan accordingly! I seen a lot of people picking up to-go order, which is probably the best way to get food during peak hours. This place is hidden, you really have to go out your way and look for it, but its so worth it! Mr. Chen is a one man team.. the sushi chef, the host, and the cashier! The other people that work here only serves! I do not know how he manage to run around in circles like he do, but he does it well! We had the following: – Baked Salmon – all salmon, no fillers! Delicious! – Nigiri – the fishes are so fresh and well cut, perfect proportion of rice and fish, with a little wasabi – Treasure Roll – Spicy salmon, cucumber, and jalapeño with avocado, white fish and ponzu and Sriracha – my most favorite roll! Very nice and citrusy, with a nice touch of bite from the jalapeños – Karen Roll – Salmon, tuna, snow crab paste, avocado, and smelt roe all wrapped w/cucumber – delicious and light – Hawaiian Roll – Tempura coconut shrimp, cream cheese & snow crab inside with mango on top – mango was cut nice and thin, coconut shrimp was fried to perfection Cannot wait to come back, just need to make sure I make a to-go order next time!

Sushi Sasabune – Menu with Prices – 101 N Brand Blvd #220, Glendale

Excellent melt in your mouth sushi! Reminds me of Sugar Fish. My coworker was saying how this was one of his favorite sushi places, but was a bit fancy. The lunch specials are pretty good though – although he said the prices went up. There’s two lunch specials, one that’s $23 and one that’s $28. We got the $28 which include sashimi over rice, and we all got the tuna because my coworker said it was particularly good here. It came with miso soup, seaweed salad and cucumbers, three sushi rolls – salmon, tuna and albacore, the sashimi on rice – could get salmon, tuna or albacore and the crab handroll. All were REALLY delicious and like I said, melts in your mouth. The rice in the sashimi bowl was really fresh as well. Service was good and the food came out quickly.

The Good Fish – Menu with Prices – 1956 N Placentia Ave, Fullerton

THE GOTO for some sashimi bowl. Forget all the poke bowl with their chopped fish. These thick generous slices on the sashimi bowl is legit. We get our sushi fix for dinner, now that it’s not as feasible to omakase on random weeknights (being parents & all). Also, it’s a great place to pickup quality food when when family & friends are over. kids approved I’m always ordering All salmon (customized to include the veggies/ toppings) for myself, the extra salmon sashimi bowl (about $3 more) for the husband, & my kids get the yellowtail collar. They love it, and always by bummed when it’s sold out. The baked salmon is a great alternative , & they’ve tried the chicken bowl. Great portions, quality ingredients, and well priced. All of it We’ve gotten the chirashj bowl, & actually a Fav if my mom’s. It includes all the fish they sell- salmon, tuna, albacore, butterfish, scoop of spicy tuna. She does say the salmon is her Fav, tho!! So, Thinking she prefers the salmon bowl, that’s what I ordered today. Then she wonders where the other fish are. Hahahaa My fav touch is the sauces offered. That house garlic is amazing, & you can’t go wrong with the “good sauce”. I truly like the ponzu they provide with the yellow tail collar. Wish my kids can enjoy it too, but they’re always looking for teriyaki. Haha They also have rolls, burritos, ramen, other cooked proteins. Plenty of seating, large parking lot (that can get crowded), space is clean. Also, to attest to the customer service, once my order was done wrong. They more than made up for it! Thank you THE GOOD FISH!

Kobe Hibachi, Sushi And Bar – Menu with Prices – 2819 N Division St, Spokane

I’ve only ever had sushi here at lunchtime, so that’s what my review is based on. My favorite thing to get is the sushi lunch of a chef selection of nigiri with a salmon roll. I’m a huge salmon fan, so it’s perfect for me. The seared tuna nigiri is delicious as well.I opted for a few simple rolls this last time. Can’t go wrong with a Philly and I really liked the fish-avocado-cream cheese ratio here. The tuna roll was larger than expected (no complaints there) and had wonderful flavor. The salmon toro was a real treat for me and I’ll order more next time. I also had the salmon skin roll, but I had so many scales in my first two pieces that it completely put me off finishing the roll. Service here is perfectly fine, but for how quiet it is when I’ve been here, it sure takes a long time to get to ask for the check, let alone pay. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about dinner service so I will come back for that sometime!

Sushi Omakase – Roseville – Menu with Prices – 9213 Sierra College Blvd #160, Roseville

Very pleasantly surprised by comparison to my first interaction with this restaurant. Initially I ordered different things, this time I think I got the right combination. This is definitely the better sushi spot I have found in the Granite Bay, Rocklin areas. I order hamachi Kama, which is grilled yellowtail collar bone meat. It’s very delicious. It’s a fattier part of the body of the fish. And this place not only cooks it very well, crunchy skin and fully cooked, but it is soft and juicy inside. They put it on a bed of greens, which can be eaten after you finish your fish for a delicious after treat. I usually get this with a side of white rice, it is ideal size for lunch. I also love that they don’t put the fish skin-side down, and they vent the container to keep the skin from getting soft or soggy. I also ordered two rolls off of their basic roll menu. Spicy tuna with cucumber and their fresh salmon and asparagus roll, substitute The asparagus that comes with it normally for avocado instead. Both rolls were $6 dollars, they were large pieces, eight pieces per roll. Either way, for under $13 you can get a large lunch here of high-quality fish. The salmon was not fishy in the smell or flavor, but a little bit fatty and delicious. The spicy tuna had a good taste also. It was not very spicy, but rather a hint of spice. And much to my surprise, they threw in a free order of edamame, lightly salted which was yummy. It is served cold, so just be aware of that. I usually go to a different sushi spot on Auburn folsom and Douglas, in the same shopping center as dutch brothers and Bank of America. I’m now changing my lunch destination!

Momiji Sushi Flagship Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1211 Edgewater St NW Suite 1, Salem

Popped in here on way way back from a bike ride out to Baskett Slough NWR and I was starving, liked it so much returned on International Sushi Day. Had been to their location on Silverton Rd. and love that there is so much more space at this location, plenty of seating, and quite a few spots right at the prep counter where you can watch them make your food. Miso soup is good with nice amount of tofu cubes, had the Sashimi combination both times with 15 pieces, can choose your own from the selections or have them choose, both times I got 5 each of tuna, salmon, and escolar. First time they seved it with a few slices of avacodo since they must have been out of the seaweed and cucumber salad, but last night got to try that and was really good. Also did the Ocean’s Bounty roll which had crab, shrimp, and scallops and enjoyed it. Tones and tons of interesting rolls on the menu but trying to stay away from all the rice and starch. Have a few sakes and plum wines on the menu as well. If I go in on a diet cheat night I will definitely try one of the crepes as well as they smelled amazing and the ones we saw going out to other tables looked delicious.
