Pork butt, Sausage links, & Brisket were all bland, dry, & overcooked. Okra was good but could have used a little extra seasoning as well. I love burnt ends as much as the next guy but parts of my brisket were hard as my plate and the casing for the sausage was inedible. I am not expecting Lockhart Smokehouse quality here (Those of you rating this place 5 stars really need to try Lockhart brisket and Jalapeno mac and cheese). This place reminds me of Big Ray’s BBQ in Allen just with less flavor and drier meats than Big Ray. I haven’t even gotten started on the BBQ sauce.. to say it is the worst BBQ sauce I have tasted is no exaggeration. It wasn’t spicy, nor was it sweet; it was just off. No matter if you prefer your BBQ sauce to be ketchup based, or vinegar, or even that white sauce mayo base, you will not like this one I am sure. Not that it matters since there is no fixing that meat.

Post Oak Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 4000 Tennyson St, Denver

Post Oak was the only BBQ place we got to try in colorado but i think we chose a good one! There are a variety of meats sold by weight, or combination plates, which is what we did. The three meats combination platter with two sides was $18! It is a REALLY good deal. the two of us were STUFFED by the end of the meal MEATS: We chose brisket, ribs, and the jalapeno cojita sausage as our three meats. You can choose between dry and moist brisket so we went for the moist! One piece was deliciously moist and soft, it was delicious! The other piece though mustve been the end piece because it was much more tough, much drier, and more crusty than the other one. It was a little unfortunate that we asked for moist but got half half. The combination choice of ribs came with three pieces. I personally enjoyed brisket more because the one piece was so juicy, and though the ribs were also delicious and meaty, I think they were on the drier side of other ribs I have tried. The sausage was our FAVORITE! The cheese oozes out when you cut into it and the kick of the jalapeno balances out the gooey cheese beautifully. SIDES: The bacon jalapeno mac and cheese was DIVINE. The fact that I was craving mac and cheese may have played a role, but wow I would eat a pot full of it if I could!! For our second side, we got the cole slaw. It was different from other slaw Ive ever tasted in the BEST way!! I personally love cilantro and I’m pretty sure they have some in their slaw because i was in love. We couldve stopped at the two sides that come with the combo but we added fries THANK GOODNESS. They come fresh by order with a perfect amount of sea salt sprinkled throughout!! If i had to choose two… i would pay the extra $5 and get all three ? At the end of the register, they have self-serve condiments like pickles, pickled onions, fresh onions, lemon wedges, and jalapeños! Also ketchup/mustard and salt/pepper to taste. DRINKS: We ordered a lager from a nearby brewery and juicy ipa… i wish I remembered the names but the cold glass of beer was a great compliment to our bbq after a hard kayak workout at sloan lake. You need to order them separately from the bar.

Gessner’s Grub BBQ Co. – Menu with Prices – 25131 Melda Rd, Spring

The brisket is delicious!!! First visit today. Arrived a little before 1:00 p.m. and he was already open. The place is a covered area behind Phil’s Auto Shop. There are a couple of picnic tables under a nearby tree. Brisket – Had a chopped brisket sandwich, which is not already drenched in sauce, (which I’m not a fan of, so I really appreciate that). It was raining, so I was going to take it to go, but I had to take a bite when I got in the truck. Well, that first bite was so delicious that I ate the whole sandwich before I even left the parking lot! I can’t tell you how good this brisket is. I’m talking about right up there with the big boys. The sauce is above average, and compliments the brisket very well. Having said that, I want to try the brisket taco with avocado crema next! Ribs – The ribs are above average, moist with a little tug, with good flavor. Not on the same level as the brisket, (but that’s more a case of how good the brisket is), but well worth picking up a half-rack. Sausage – The sausage was good, but a bit pedestrian. Planning to try the jalapeño sausage next time. Pitmaster is Josh (one of Phil’s sons), very personable young man that seems to be doing things right. Go get some brisket!

The Bent Nail – Menu with Prices – 5217 98th St #900, Lubbock

We absolutely loved The Bent Nail! My husband ordered the 3 meat plate and said his favorites were the sausage and brisket. I had a loaded baked potato with brisket and loved it. My favorite meat by far was the sausage when I tasted his, but I also really enjoyed the brisket. All their meat is from Red Raider Meats. They have tons of side options too. Our daughter loved the mac n cheese. I will also say that I love their children’s plate options because it’s one of the few places in town that has great options for kids. Our daughter had the little piggy plate with turkey, green beans, mac n cheese, a fruit cup, and (I believe) a choice of yogurt or apple sauce. This is probably my favorite dinner option for BBQ in town!

Derek Allan’s Texas Barbecue – Menu with Prices – 1116 8th Ave, Fort Worth

Fort Worth has a handful of great, new BBQ places, with Derek Allan’s being at the top of that list. It was nice to finally see a place get settled in the old Paco and John building as well as having another BBQ place near Magnolia. We had pretty high expectations considering all the rave reviews with their featured Wagyu items and I don’t think Derek Allan’s disappointed. Onto the meats! The Brisket – we took cuts from both the flat and the point, and both types were equally tasty. The brisket had a nice bark with some peppercorn rub on it, with a moderate smoky flavor. Overall, a damn solid brisket. The Ribs – as good as the brisket was, I think the ribs steal the show here. Big, untrimmed spare ribs, with that same peppercorn rub and great bark. Combined with fall-off-the-bone tenderness, I do think these are some of the best ribs around in Fort Worth. The Sausage – being the 1b to the Ribs is actually the sausage. This in-house made sausage, with cheddar sprinkled throughout, also became a favorite. A nice pop and rare tenderness to it, I loved seeing a BBQ place spend time on making some good sausage as opposed to just shelling out the standard Eckrich farm variety. Like the ribs, probably some of the best sausage to be had locally. The Meatloaf – yes they do have smoked meatloaf. It was pretty decent. I don’t if I’d try it again, but nice to see some experimentation with the menu. The Sauce – Delicious, tangy, and rust-colored, it was great for dipping that delicious sausage into. So I think it is fair to say that we enjoyed Derek Allan’s and the quality of their meats definitely gives Heim a run for their money. 4.5 Stars

Robinson’s BBQ Menu with Prices 5920 Hillside Rd, Amarillo

My husband, father-in-law and myself came here for lunch today as we always drive by but have never stopped to try it. All I can say is that I wish it was better. I got the brisket and sausage plate and it came with coleslaw, beans, and a piece of cornbread. I wish the brisket was better, it had a small smoke ring but for this restaurant to be around for as long as it has, you’d think that they’d have the smoking down. My husband got the brisket and the chopped pork, said it had no flavor. My FIL got the brisket sandwich with sausage mixed in and he said it was alright. We got a large order of onion rings, and that was probably the best part of the meal. At least we can now say that we’ve tried it!

Blacksmoke BBQ & Grill – Menu with Prices – 2121 Northwest Hwy Suite 100, Garland

This bbq is delicious! I went here GOT THE FOOD TO GO and the wait wasn’t bad ay all. The first thing you smell when you walk in is delicious Smokey BBQ. I ordered the 3 meat plate, I got brisket, chicken and sausage! Let me start with the chicken. Man that chicken was the most tender and juicy piece of BBQ’d meat I have ever tasted. It’s fall off the bone tender! And idk if they smoke their meats or whatever hit it was perfectly seasoned and everything. Next let’s discuss the brisket. First and foremost, the two slices I got were huge! I swear it was like eating a rib without the bone ! I will get into the ribs later. But that. Eisner has the smokehouse flavor too. Whatever they do to that is amazing. Next the sausage was peppered I believe. Smokey and savory with every ju us and tender bite. My girl got the ribs and brisket, them ribs were amazing! Smokey, fall of the bone tender, sweet sand savory. For sides she had macaroni and green beans both of which I cannot recreate or describe how delicious it is. We got dessert too. I got the peach cobbler with a side of ice cream and she got the banana pudding. That review will come later as I must to go celebrate my birthday!! This was the best BBQ I have ever had. STAY TOONED FOR MY OTHER REVIEW OF THE DESSERTS COMING SOON.. sorry there are no octubres, it was too delicious. Will post pics next time as I am 100% positive I will be going back!!

Chatter Box Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1817 Market St, Chattanooga

After a long afternoon of hiking, we were famished and followed our noses toward the smoke, and came across ChatterBox. We got a half pound of brisket as well as the chicken plate with two sides (beans + mac&cheese). Everything was sooo good. Chicken: cubed/shredded with a smoky/cinnamon/nutmeg flavor; nice and moist and paired well with the sauce Beans: Sweet, and watched them scoop them right out of the smoker after ordering. Perfect side to go with the meats. Mac&Cheese: Delicious with a nice peppery bite. Can’t go wrong with this one Brisket: got sliced some lean brisket; nice visible pink smoke ring, sweet caramel-ly bark; had a good smoky flavor and paired well with the sauce Ok let’s stop and talk about Brandon’s sauce, which absolutely stole the show. Probably the best barbecue sauce I have ever tasted!! The spicy sauce is like crack… slightly sweet, some cinnamon notes, and just enough heat. I would buy jars of this stuff!! Also Brandon who runs the joint is as nice and welcoming as they come. He seems to do a lot for the neighborhood and community too which is awesome to see. If you are craving some BBQ and want to support a small business doing it right, def check out ChatterBox!

City Limits Barbeque (food truck) – Menu with Prices – 2605 Devine St, Columbia

This food truck is probably the best in Columbia not just because they have the best Texas style bbq but for the ever changing menu. Let me explain, most visits we get a certain amount of brisket smoked to perfection with hot gut sausage. I usually get there early sometimes sharing a beer or conversation about the meats. Back to the menu it included a smashed brisket burger a few weekends back no one is doing that currently. Yesterday they just did 5.00 carnitas and 5.00 chicken tacos in order to raise money for St. Baldricks a cancer charity that is fighting the good fight ! City Limits will focus on one thing or two and perfect it , just like the smoked wings. Just depends on what there doing it changes it keeps things fresh. I’ve been fortunate enough of learn more about Texas style cooking with my conversations with the owner Robbie. South Carolina usually features our on style of mustard or vinegar based bbq , Texas style bbq focuses less on sauces and more on the smoke and flavor. But fear not City Limits has everything from Alabama white sauce to our reds and mustards based sauce for those customers who just like to dip their meat in sauce. Oh there’s going to be a line be patient be kind or just freaking pre order meats when available obviously not all items can be pre ordered as they are made to order. Nice addition to Columbia ‘s ever growing food scene. Excited to see what’s just around the corner.

Kody’s Smoke Shack Menu with Prices 3517 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque

I have been driving by this place for sometime and decided today is the day to try this smoke shack. Ordering the food is pretty easy. They have all kinds of meats to choose from like brisket, ribs, and poultry items. They have a sandwich/wrap menu and a baked potato menu as well. Next store is Desert Valley Brewery. You can order here and hop on over and get yourself a beer. I ordered the three meat combo. I choose Brisket, Baby Back Ribs, and smoked sausage link with a side of fried okra. Their BBQ sauce display needs to be a lot better. It just looked messy and unpresentable. I think that they should work on presentation all around. Everything is served on paper boats (I think that’s what they’re called?) and it seemed a little cafeteria-like. But, the BBQ sauces they have here are definitely on point. Their brisket was flavorful, but a little on the chewy side. Smoked sausage was ok – it didn’t wow me. Their baby back ribs were cooked perfectly. Not a lot of people know this, but a perfectly cooked rib is NOT the fall off the bone kind. When you bite into it, the meat should come clean off the bone, and that is what I experienced here. The service was good and while the ribs were great, everything else was okay. I will give this place another shot some time down the road.

Fatty Smokes: A Barbecue Joint – Menu with Prices – 328 E Broad St, Richmond

The BBQ scene in Richmond is getting more competitive and unfortunately Fatty Smokes doesn’t offer anything special to bring to the table. I ordered a variety of meats and sides since they claim that they don’t have a specialty and that “everything is delicious” according to our waitress. For their meats, I got their dry rubbed spare ribs, brisket, Texas link sausage, and pulled pork. Before I even took a bite, I could tell that the brisket was dry as were the spare ribs. Their flavors were decent, but they were so texturally disappointing that I couldn’t get past the dryness. The pulled pork was decent with some sauce added to it but again, a bit dry. As for the sides, the potato wedges were crisp and were probably the high point of the meal which isn’t saying much. Their stew was made out of what looked like frozen vegetables and was very basic. The mac and cheese was a bit dry and the sauce had broken when cooked. I couldn’t really tell that it was supposed to be pimento mac and cheese either as I didn’t see any pieces of pimento. We had decided to get dessert when placing our order for everything else and I really wish we had waited because the peach cobbler had WAY too much cinnamon and was bitter because of this. I really liked the decor and overall ambience of this place. Unfortunately, the food did not match and I do not see myself returning as there are other much better places to get your BBQ fix in Richmond.

Federal Hill Smokehouse – Menu with Prices – 2609 US-19, Erie

This place was pretty great. My family and I arrived shortly after 11 and there was already a line. It seemed like lots of folks were delegates for a large group of people and placing large orders which held up the line somewhat, but the 4 person staff was pumping orders out like pros. Though the line was long it moved relatively quickly as the ridiculously large orders got out of the way. The folks in line waiting around us were friendly and we all had a good laugh at speculating how large the beef ribs could possibly be. Between all of us we tried most of the meats: turkey, smoked sausage (kielbasa), brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The turkey and ribs were a standout for me while my family enjoyed the sauce and brisket. Pulled pork and brisket were tender and juicy, but I think it could have used a bit more salt. The sauce selection was surprisingly lackluster. They had a spicy sauce, a sweet sauce, and a honey mustard sauce. The honey mustard was the table favorite. The other two seemed like bottled sauce that may or may not have been doctored up. If you’re gonna be a smokehouse and not make your own sauce at least be smart enough to source the good stuff from somewhere else! Get the jalapeño poppers for a nice side: they’re bacon wrapped and worth it. The Mac and cheese was nothing to write home about but the pinto beans were delish and made with leftover meat. Definitely a one of a kind spot for Erie from the looks of it!

Ranch House – Menu with Prices – 2571 Cristo’s Rd, Santa Fe

Well, this is my second time here. The first time here we had a not-so-good experience and I wanted to wait to write a review. We had a reservations and sat down right away. We got drinks and food very quickly and our server was very attentive – a product, I think, of my husbands previous review. I got the small plate for lunch, which consists of either pulled pork or brisket, a side, and corn bread. I had mine with calabacitas, and while the presentation was sloppy, they tasted delicious. Buttery and salty, the vegetables tasted fresh. The green Chile cornbread was good. My son had beans and potato salad as his sides, and those both tasted great. My brisket, however, and my husbands and sons ribs, while they were perfectly cooked, still lacked in flavor. They serve everything with a side of their barbecue sauce, and the sauce is delicious. While the sauce really helps, truly good barbecue should stand on its own, not depend on the optional sauce for flavor. But trust me, the meat needs it. I had the creme brûlée for dessert, and THAT was amazing. I don’t know what they did to it, but it’s delicious. I would really like to want to come back, as the atmosphere here is absolutely beautiful and the patio looks like a great spot.
