I think one other reviewer said it best… I’m trying really hard to like this place but there are just a few things that were off for me. Let’s start with the most important part… drinks. I got the strawberry matcha latte, and it was decent enough. A little bit too sweet for me, but it was probably from the strawberry puree they use as I was assured by the owner that they don’t put additional sugar. My biggest criticism for this drink was the matcha powder didn’t seem to have been completely dissolved. I was getting small chunks of it every few sips. I love matcha but that was a bit rough. I added boba also, but that fell flat. Boba was mushy and tasted like it was sitting for too long… which I somewhat understand because it was a weeknight and it’s probably wasteful to make so many batches of boba for a slow business day. Hubby got the Lady Celyon tea and it was fabulous. No complaints about this drink at all, and if we are to go back, I would definitely order it again. My main problem is pricing. Most drinks are $5, specialty drinks start at $6. That’s quite steep for a cup of boba tea, and at this point, for the quality and size of the drinks we bought, I just can’t justify it. The atmosphere, although calming and quiet, can be a bit awkward. It may be a nice place to study, but I wouldn’t come here with another person expecting to hang out. I also wouldn’t come here with kids, as the big (expensive) piano is too tempting for their little fingers and it’s quite stressful to try to keep them away to avoid paying for a new piano. With all of that said, there’s enormous room for opportunity. The owner, as can be attested by several reviewers, is exceptionally friendly and passionate about tea (and pianos). I think she is doing her best trying to run a small business in a very challenging time and area for small businesses. I hope she can make it through removing all reminents of the old Taro Taro (signs, cups, etc.), because that is also a bit awkward. I will most likely come back again since I live close by, and I’m more than ready and willing to change my review if my experience differs next time.

It’s Boba Time – Menu with Prices – 136 S Brand Blvd, Glendale

We were craving boba and happened to be in the area we decided to stop by Boba Time for a couple drinks. The line was extremely long but we decided to wait it out. We ordered the Strawberry Matcha & Mango Peach Smoothie. My Strawberry Matcha drink wasn’t good, it tasted very watered down, not sweet enough, and barely had any strawberry flavor once it was all mixed together. Definitely not comparable to Boba Guys’ Strawberry Matcha Latte if you’ve ever had it. I would say the boba helped add sweetness to the drink, otherwise it would’ve been very bland and not much of a pleasure to drink. I would probably try a different drink next time if I was in the area and wanted boba again. The Mango Peach Smoothie tasted like your average Mango Peach Smoothie at other boba spots. Nothing too special about it but it tasted way better than the Strawberry Matcha.

Feng Cha Teahouse – Menu with Prices – 2701 Custer Pkwy, Richardson

My current favorite place for boba in DFW right now. The cafe is really cute and lets in a lot of natural light. It seems like a great place to read, study, or meet up with friends as there is quite a bit of space with plenty of seating and tables. Feng Cha has some of the most unique boba drinks in DFW that I’ve seen so far, and a variety of milk foam caps you can add on (taro, cheese foam, sea salt, matcha, etc), so Feng Cha gets major points for that! You can also adjust the sweetness of your drink here, which is a must for me in a boba shop. I enjoyed my rose oolong with the addition of matcha milk foam (70% sweet). This combo went pretty well together and I thought the matcha tasted pretty good. I tried it with taro milk foam once as well and this was not my favorite combination. I thought the taro was on the sweeter side, which was a negative for me. I’ve also tried the dirty boba (70% sweet), which was pretty delicious at first. It has cheese milk foam and brown sugar on top. After a while though I realized I couldn’t finish it. It is super rich, creamy, and sweet. If you want something more decadent, this might be the drink for you! We also tried the afternoon tea matcha cake. Unfortunately, it was just alright. It looked very pretty though. It was disappointing that the matcha milk foam was just thrown over some basic pound cake. I think it would be a hit if they introduced the first Japanese souffle pancakes in DFW and then they can throw the milk foam over that. It seems like that’s getting pretty popular right now. Overall, I can’t wait to try more drinks and milk foam combinations! There is also a Feng Cha in Carrollton now, which is closer to me! YAY! Summary- Favorite Drink: rose oolong with matcha milk foam cap (70% sweet) Business tip/gold mine idea: Ditch the pound cake and introduce the first Japanese Souffle pancakes in DFW on your menu, so you can throw milk foam on top of that!!

Chatime Fullerton – Menu with Prices – 410 E Chapman Ave Suite B, Fullerton

Wow! I am impressed! I had heard of this place once before and I remember ordering a boba here while I was in Sydney a year ago. I was excited to find out that another one opened up that was a lot closer than the other location. (The one in Rowland Heights is pretty far from where I live) I will say one thing though: it was pretty complicated how to get into the parking lot and we ended up parking at a neighborhood and walking to the place. I understand though that the location, being next to homes and a university, would make it harder to make an easy entrance to the parking lot. Anyways, I ordered the taro milk tea with cheese foam and boba and I really liked the cups they put the drink in! Similar to Jie Boba or BobaTEAque. My first sip was very tasty, but I made the terrible mistake of getting cheese foam with the taro. I decided to mix it up and it tasted pretty horrible after that. I do not recommend getting the taro milk tea with cheese foam… The drink wasn’t too sweet and the boba was just right. Not too overcooked (not too soft), and not too undercooked (not too hard). Next time, I will be sure to order any of the drinks WITHOUT cheese foam. But overall, the drink was great at the start, the service was great, and the employees were nice.

Happy Lemon Menu with Prices 1645 140th Ave NE # B8, Bellevue

I’ve been to this happy lemon around 3 times since it’s a convenient location for me and have had really high hopes, but I’ve been pretty let down. One thing I liked was the decor and aesthetic of the place since they had air plants as decoration! The service is consistently polite and friendly as well! What’s not so great is the actual bubble tea. I ordered a taro milk tea and when I first tasted it I wasn’t sure if I actually ordered a taro milk tea since it tasted like a plain milk tea. If it had been a plain milk tea it would have been alright (3/5) but since it was supposed to be taro flavor it was really disappointing (1/5). The more I drank it I tasted small amounts of the taro flavor, but it wasn’t very convincing. My friend got the matcha avocado drink and it too was disappointing since neither of us could taste any matcha. As a plain avocado drink it was ok (3/5) but since it was supposed to also taste like matcha it was very subpar (1/5). Another time I got a plain milk tea with the taro pearls (4/5) and I would recommend the taro pearls since they are a fun alternative to boba! The biggest redeeming quality about the place is their bubble waffles(5/5)! If they aren’t too busy you can get a half and half bubble waffle (half chocolate half original). I’m not sure which I prefer since the chocolate flavor is subtle and the original is a little sweeter. Neither are very sweet which I liked. These waffles are chewier than normal waffles so it’s up to your personal preference if you like them. They also offer crema to dip the waffles in (2/5)but it was too sweet and buttery for my liking so I wouldn’t recommend. Overall, the drinks have been underwhelming, but I’ll definitely be back for their bubble waffles! Maybeee I’ll try one of their drinks again later to see if they actually have the flavors listed in the name of the drink. *the numbers in parentheses are my rating of each item out of 5 stars so (4/5) means 4 out of 5 stars.

Black Pearls Tea Bar Menu with Prices 2630 S Parker Rd, Aurora

I have visited this boba place multiple times since it has first opened. Initially it was very good, they have a multitude of different drinks and have recently expanded their food menu as well as finally fixing their ice cream machine. My usual drink was the Taro Milk Tea with boba and after my visit today with my friend, I will never go here again. After a very long wait, my order was called and they had messed up my order. Instead of a Taro milk tea, which the person who took my order repeated after me confirming what I had ordered, instead when I got my drink it said on the receipt Thai milk tea. I informed them that they had gotten my order wrong and when they remade my drink it was absolutely disgusting. Taro at Black Pearl is a powdered tea that requires shaking, the person who had made it did not leave it on the machine long enough because when I started drinking it, the milk and powder began to separate almost as soon as I walked out of the door. Usually the boba at this place is pretty good quality, but today it was undercooked, making it inedible. And for the final straw, I was drinking my Taro Milk Tea with Boba when I bit down on something much harder than boba. Spitting it out, it was some sort of disgusting NOT FOOD item that was like black char/paint mixed in with the boba. Looking closer at my drink I realized that there were black flecks floating in with the drink and around the straw. Sad to say their quality and service have gotten this low. Definitely avoid this place!

Boba Junkie – Menu with Prices – 1200 W Warner Ave unit b, Santa Ana

Boba Junkie is a small boba shop in a sketchy looking plaza. It’s pretty small inside probably only 5 tables. I came here one night with my boyfriend because we were in the area and wanted to try it. I think we were pretty disappointed in their drinks. We saw Yelp reviews and pictures hyping it up but I think the drinks fell flat. We got the matcha latte and the house drink and both were somewhat disappointing but the matcha latte was more disappointing. The matcha latte didn’t taste like matcha at all. My boyfriend says it tastes like seaweed… The house drink was way too sweet. The earl gray base was ok but overall drink was too sweet. Both drinks were sweet and it ruins the flavor. I don’t blame them since I have a lot of expectations when it comes to milk teas since I’m in love with milk teas but this place fell flat.

Eightfold Tea Shoppe – Menu with Prices – 1460 Baker St, Costa Mesa

Hi, my name is Kim. I am currently on the Eightfold Path to (boba) enlightenment. They say the Eightfold Path is the path that leads to a state of perfect happiness. Boba does in fact bring joy to those who seek it. Let me tell you about my journey so far to finding good boba in the land of Orange County. Eightfold appeared on my radar as Hot & New by Yelp itself. My adventurous spirit craved exactly that. I gravitated towards the Deep Matcha because I follow what the masses like. It also comes with boba and pudding. How can one resist?? The milk and nuances of matcha went well together. It tasted creamy without the matcha being overwhelming bitter. The consistency was just right for me. Slush like without being too icy or liquidy like water. Boba had the perfect, chewy texture. I did also enjoyed the Raspberry Matcha as well. It had an enjoyable tangy element from the raspberry. You got your tang. You got your cream. You got your matcha. There were a lot of different flavors present but it worked together. One didn’t overpower the other too much. Although on a separate visit, the drink tasted more powdery than the previous time. Unfortunately, it could be a hit or miss depending on who makes your drink. However you know what, sometimes you have to give things a second chance. The Eightfold Path is a constant journey but as long as you keep trying it all out, it will come back to you tenfold. That my friend is the path to (boba) enlightenment.

Kung Fu Tea – Menu with Prices – 2067 N Central Expy Suite 100, Richardson

Kung Fu Tea One of my favorite Boba chains and has locations all over the US. My favorite drinks from KFT are the milk teas. The Milk Teas at KFT are my favorite because of how creamy and rich the milk tea is compared to other Boba shop chains. The inside of the place is clean and looks nice but tables can be dirty like any other boba shop. The staff can make common mistakes just like any other boba shops. Another thing is their attention to your sugar preference. Sometimes I can order 50% sweetness but it’s still really sweet at KFT. This goes for every single boba shop out their is their attention to your sugar preference that you order. The same thing applies when you ask for less ice at KFT and all boba shops can give you normal ice amount. I’ve been to many boba chains and my favorite boba chain is ShareTea for its generous serving of boba and you get a larger size for the same price as a small size at KFT. The tea creaminess of the milk tea at ShareTea is more subtle then KFT. So it’s all a matter of your preference if you want more tea and stronger tea flavor go to ShareTea if you like your tea creamy but get less tea go to Kung Fu Tea. Another thing I don’t like about KFT is that they use a lot of powder flavoring for fruit drinks like taro. My favorite drink at KFT is oolong milk tea with boba because it’s creamy and rich flavor and a nutty taste. Drinks I recommend ordering are the Matcha red bean slush, oolong milk tea, and Kung fu tea. KFT also has an app to earn rewards and points every time you buy.

Jasmine Kocha – Menu with Prices – 3129 Meridian Ave, San Jose

We came here because they had their promo of buy one, get one drink 1.99 (Extended until the 15th of October btw, make sure you show them their Facebook post and like it)! The service is nice and they like to try helping you order. I believe it’s family run as they all came out from the back and were snacking together in the front. This made me worry about who was in the back making the teas or letting the stuff sit there.. What we ordered and how it came out: Matcha Latte: little ice, reg sweet, no topping: Matcha powder is low quality/weak and had a powdery aftertaste. You could really only taste the milk as it seemed like they didn’t use a lot of matcha as they’re supposed to. Choco milk tea: less ice, reg sweet, no topping: Could really only taste Hershey syrup and no tea. Might as well just call it just chocolate milk. Red Moonshine: less ice, reg sweet, with mango popping boba. This is a strawberry and watermelon fused drink! You can’t taste the strawberry but can taste the watermelon. The tea is weak in this one as well and the popping boba wasn’t great either, which REALLY surprised me…you can never go wrong with popping boba unless you keep it out of the fridge for a long period of time and then serve it, like this place did. Ahhh… Long story short: they use the cheapest things to serve customers and it’s not worth the drive or the promo. There’s much better places around San Jose that does a lot better. I don’t think I’ll be back :/

Lollicup Tea Zone – Menu with Prices – 1550 E H St #H, Chula Vista

My go to boba place even though there’s a boba place across the street from me! The boba here is always nicely chewy and sweet. Usually, when you get boba late at night or close to closing, a shop’s boba is hard and VERY unappealing. But fear not, this boba shop has fresh boba even to the very end of the day. The drinks are blended to perfection. Drinks are not too sweet– if you’d like a modification on sweetness, just let a worker know! The shop is pretty spacious. However, if you go right after one of the schools get out, chances are you’ll be around a lot of middle/high schoolers. If you do catch yourself in this time, don’t worry because the line goes by pretty fast and your drinks come in a timely manner. The owners are amazing and friendly as always. Today, I went to the shop to get a friend a gift. I got a Taro slush with boba, bag of Sour Patch kids, and a gift certificate. The owner offered to put the bag of candy and gift certificate in a boba cup and seal it! It was super cute! To overlook this place would be a crime. It’s not the trendiest looking place, but it is the tastiest.

Sunright Tea Studio – Menu with Prices – 3313 Hyland Ave Suite A7, Costa Mesa

I was just at the Diamond Bar branch yesterday. Saw on their IG story that they’re having soft opening at Costa Mesa. So here I am! (Next week is their grand opening!!) Seriously though. I’ve been to the Diamond Bar branch at least once a week since it opened. 1. DECOR: Seemed like the Sunright Sign & staff shirts are a different color compared to the DB branch. It’s a nice contrast (yes I noticed!). The store’s got a different feel to it. Despite being slightly smaller, there’s actually more tables. There’s even an outdoor sitting area. It’s a great place to sit down and talk over some tea/dessert or do some studying. The entire decor just makes you feel right at home and gorgeous to take pictures with! They’ve also changed the design of their cups & stickers (long strip instead of circle ones). The cups have a nice feel to them. Definitely different from the typical ones you’d find anywhere else. 2. STAFF: Other than the owner/manager, I didn’t recognize the two workers there. However, no matter the location, I’ve never had a problem with the workers. Everyone’s always super friendly and energetic. Everyone’s wearing their uniforms + hats. Great team spirit! 3. DRINKS: I’m like a creature of habit. Once I like a certain drink, I stick with it every single time. My go to: Strawberry Jasmine with no ice, 50% sugar, and Agar boba. It might take some getting used to. However, I actually appreciate how NOT sweet the drinks are. In a world where almost everthing is filled with excess amount of sugar, it’s important to cut down on the sugar level. Plus, you can always customize the levels to your own liking. I just really like how the drink tastes. There’s always real fruits inside. Other drinks I’ve had a chance to try: Grapefruit Jasmine (real grapefruit inside!), their new Fruit Drink that just came out (diced pineapple, lemon, passion fruit jam, watermelon). You can actually taste the passion fruit seeds! And for those that might want something sweeter- their oreo drink was really good. I thought it would be way too sweet but it was actually really tasty, with actual chunks of crushed oreos! I was studying at the store once and saw the owner actually scooping out fresh taro into a clear measuring bucket and churning it over and over to prepare for the taro drinks. The smell can only be described as fresh. This is not something powdered taro can compare with. (Do you get the idea now that they use real fruits and ingredients in general?) 4. DESSERT: Had the chance to try their Matcha soft serve today. Let me just tell you that I normally don’t care much for Matcha anything and would skip ordering it on the menu. But when I bit into the soft serve, it tasted very matcha-y but in a good way! It was rich but not overpowering. The combination of the soft serve + the cone = SO good!! Anyway, I’ll stop gushing about the place now and you can be your own judge. It’s honestly a nice change in scenary and fresh taste for the palate.

RareTea Berkeley Menu with Prices 2440 Bancroft Way, Berkeley

Very disappointed. Wasted money, calories, time. It is no secret, I love boba and I try my best to sample new places so I can yelp about them too!!We wanted to try a new place in Berkley and saw high stars and lots of reviews for this place so thought of giving it a go. The location has limited parking options and is best to walk to it ( from the Main Street ) or park far and walk. It is a small place which looked very make shift for some reason. The menu is limited and has been categorised well actually for ease of ordering. We got the Taro boba tea (cold) and the Coffee milk tea with boba ( hot). Both orders costs $9.00 making this not a cheap place and very comparable to other boba places. The hot drink was not hot !! Yes , it was maybe luke warm. I brought that to the attention of the staff and they microwaved it in front me. Still not hot. The flavour was so weak and the tea tasted more like water less like milk. The only good thing was the boba which by itself was actually good. The drink overall was not good 3/10. The Taro drink was better than the hot one but also lacked good flavour and was very watered down. 4/10. The boba itself had great texture but the drink diminished the boba completely. We left very unhappy and I unfortunately would not recommend this to anyone.
