Will be my longest review but after eating here, I left wondering what the hell just happened. Saw this restaurant a few weeks ago before heading to Hiep Thai and thought yes, a new pho place to try. Ventured there with the youngest for he’s the biggest pho lover. Walked in to one table but thought, it’s a Wednesday, ahhh. 1. Sat down and next to me was the owner and her 4 yr old twin boys. One immediately came over and hover over my son and their mom came and asked me a million questions. That was fine but then without even asking she plopped them down on my table. I was like ok… but then thought ahh it’s ok. The boys can become friends. 2. The twins then started to run around in the restaurant and neither the waitress, their uncle, mom or dad thought that wasn’t ok. Prob the most unruly boys I’ve seen in a bit but then I still gave them the benefit. 3. One of the twins then ran to that one table and the mom chased him and started to spank him… in front of them. Now, I was a bit taken aback but kept to myself. Mind you the other twin was still hovering over my son to the point he shut off his iPad and told me he didn’t want him there. 4. Mind you, the whole time we were there the mom was just standing next to us. Watching and commenting on how Henry was eating so well. So awkward. 5. One customer asked for additional broth to take home for her daughter. They denied her. I get it but if you’re a new business you should do this for return business. The other customer then asked how much for the broth and the mom/owner said ‘Come back next time and we’ll give your daughter extra broth.’ I’m sure that lady will never return. 6. Henry, only 4, but has used chopsticks before wanted to feed himself. I gave him the chopsticks and the mom took it from him and tried to feed him, while advising me that he’s incapable and will spill it. I was now a bit upset. All I could think at that point was, wow. Btw, I gave Henry back the chopsticks and he fed himself fine. So wanted to post a positive review but I just couldn’t. Too bad, I thought the noodle soups we ordered was tasty but after this experience we will never go back

Kanpai Ramen – Menu with Prices – 1023 E Colorado St unit d, Glendale

I just spent over an hour there to have a bite. There was a male and a female serving the guests. I was sat at a table for two that had what looked like a glob of chipotle mayo sauce on top of it. My napkin and chopsticks were placed on top of the glob. Seriously. I waited (timed) 7 minutes for someone to acknowledge me. When they did, I pointed out the glob issue. My napkin and chopsticks were whisked away and my table was wiped down. Then they left. And stayed away. The table was soaking wet so I had to take a napkin from the table next to me and dry it off myself. A total of 11 passes by and 5 minutes later, I was asked what I wanted. I gave my order and in a surprisingly timely fashion, I was given my meal. I sat there for another 7+ minutes until I was given a new set of napkin and chopsticks to eat with, though. By this time my meal was starting to get cold. I ate my meal and drank my beer until I made the mistake of wanting another beer to drink with the remainder of my now cold meal. I placed the empty beer bottle on the farthest corner of the table away from me, as to indicate that I no longer wanted the empty bottle and would like to have a new full one. I sat there. Wanting another beer. Hoping someone would ask me if things were ok and did I need something else. OKAY, Now. There were less than 16 people in the place, using 6 tables. You would think I could get some attention. I didn’t. After 8 minutes waiting for someone to ask me if I needed anything, I got another beer. I finished my now totally cold meal, asked for the check, left ZERO tip, and left. I have been to this place 4 times in the last 2 months. The service has gotten progressively worse and the quality of the food has suffered a bit as well. ZERO for Service! Food quality- 4 out of 5. Atmosphere- 2/5.

P K Deli & Market – Menu with Prices – 716 E 64th St, Tacoma

I want to tell the whole world, DO NOT EVER GO & SUPPORT THIS STORE! My boys and their friend experienced racism in this establishment. They went there to buy candy and the owner told them that they needed to hurry and get out. He said he can’t stand young “black people” at his store. The boys ended up still buying something from his store when they left to prove they had money. I went there to confront him and he said by “experience” he had to protect his store. I asked if he ever saw these boys take anything in the past and he admitted No, but their kind has. I refuse to give any business to them. He was yelling in my face and had his hands up and said the boys were lieing, but he caught himself saying the same things the boys admitted. No one should ever be treated this way. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS STILL RACISM AROUND, DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!

Umi Sushi Lounge – Menu with Prices – 45-08 Parsons Blvd, Flushing

Save your money and go somewhere/anywhere else, I left the restaurant hungry. I wish Yelp would give us the option of “NO Stars”. This place just opened up in July 2019 and I just discovered it today. Its very quiet with 2 boothes, 2 tables that seat 4 and 8 seats at the bar. I ordered the lunch special of two California rolls and a salad for 8.00. The salad consisted of 2 huge uncut pieces of iceberg lettuce with a stringy seaweed and a vinegar type dressing. This was difficult to eat with chopsticks….I asked for a fork and the waiter pointed to the chopsticks he gave me The California rolls were fresh and good, although loosely rolled….each one had 6 pieces. There was a tiny bit of wasabi and pickled white ginger. They served the soy sauce cold which was nice. When seated I immediately checked the Yelp reviews which werent to bad. I “checked in”, took a picture and a coupon popped up for. FREE appetizer or drink. I showed the waiter the coupon on my phone and asked for the pork gyoza (pan fried dumplings). He came back and said there is a 25.00 minimum to receive this, although thats not printed on the coupon. Im disappointed because I love discovering new restaurants to try and review. The waiter was very hard to understand and I had a hard time communicating with him. I wont be coming back here. Now I have to find something else to eat ? ETA: There is another restaurant in the back of this one…..very confusing. When I walked into Umi I asked about the lunch specials on the sign in front of the restaurant, the waiter. “motioned towards the back” with his hands. Rude much!!!!

Skipjack Poke Co. – Menu with Prices – 9670 Haven Ave #103, Rancho Cucamonga

I don’t need to be ” saved” from whoever and whatever it is he thinks I need saving from. How smug of Henry to say! I don’t understand how I’ve “painted a target on my back for them.” How are “They” going to know who I am? Do they give you kickbacks at SkipJack for kissing their butt? It’s not like I’m going to be announcing: “Hellooooo, everyone standing in the SkipJack Poke line, my name is Reagan, and I made an obviously bad joke of how stuffy some of you can be when I overhear you ordering Poke and talking amongst yourselves.” Henry has now made me so uncomfortable to the point where I wouldn’t even want to place an order online through Yelp to the establishment, let alone step foot inside. And the sad thing is I used to be a regular here along with my friends since I’ve told SO MANY people about this place. Who TF cares I called some of the customers stuffy? I still came several times a month! I was apart of the rewards program and racked up a lot of points but now this is so awkward. I obviously loved this place and as I said before, gave it 5 stars when I first submitted the review so there was no reason for the owner to come back like that, just ignore it and enjoy the business! Not replying back to any of this any longer, this is stupid.

Thai Garden – Menu with Prices – 432 University Ave W, St Paul

We went there yesterday afternoon based on the reviews but were sorely disappointed and ended up leaving right after TRYING to order. First we ordered an appetizer of spring rolls but were told that they were out of spring rolls! Upon my asking how a Thai restaurant could be â??out of spring rollsâ?, the server gave multiple excuses – there were only three people working, they just had a large group of people that had ordered spring rolls, they were behind. I thought this was outlandish but because we were there as a birthday lunch for someone in our party, I tried to make the best of it. As I always do when I eat at Thai food restaurants, I wanted to order the Pad Thai, but found the description of â??sweet, sour, saltyâ? on the menu confusing as Iâ??ve never known Pad Thai to be sour OR salty. When I asked the server why they described their Pad Thai this way, she asked me what color the sauce was on the other Pad Thai Iâ??ve eaten. I thought this was a strange question but I answered â??brown I guessâ?. She then said â??we make our Pad Thai different than everyone else and our sauce is orangeâ?. Ummm, that sounds like a sweet & sour sauce to me. At that point, I knew this place wasnâ??t what the reviews seemed to indicate and we left without even completing our orders. As Iâ??ve seen in at least one other review, i donâ??t understand how this place has such a high rating and it doesnâ??t seem this place knows how to cook Thai food. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are many other Thai food restaurants in the Twin Cities from which to choose.

Qian Express Chinese Ramen House Menu with Prices 10660 NE 8th St, Bellevue

I read a review of Qian on another site and decided to check it out. So glad we did!! We took my father, who luckily was up for trying a new place. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and seated. Ordering was super easy and done via tablet-tho just one per table so we had to take turns looking at the menu. The menu design makes it really easy to customize your order to add or delete ingredients. Service was exceptional and friendly. Once seated we were immediately brought complimentary fried red chili with peanuts (not spicy) and pickled radish. There is also a jar of red chili on the table (spicy). Qian has a limited menu of 13 noodle dishes-both wet (in broth) and dry (with sauce but no broth). Apparently these are the most popular dishes at their Seattle location. Its a great selection but I hope they add more dishes, especially vegetarian options as there aren’t any now. Portions are good size. Everything we ordered was very tasty and was served steaming hot. Dad ordered the Braised lamb brisket with thin rice noodles which came in a broth. Both the lamb and broth were really flavorful. Hubs had the Qian Noodle. He said it was good, but reminded him a bit of a spicy Italian meat sauce. Tho I didn’t taste it so can’t comment on his analysis ? . I had the Marrow Bone Noodle with wheat noodles. I also added thick rice noodles for an extra cost- which sank to the bottom of my bowl and were slippery, so were hard to pick up with my chopsticks. The noodle broth was good not too salty& light flavor (I always prefer less salt because it can always be added but can’t be taken away). The marrow bones came separately in a bowl with a little bit of the marrow broth, which was a bit more flavorful. The marrow bones were good as well, but there was very little meat on them and no additional meat in the broth. So if you want meat, that’s an add on for an additional cost. The interior is striking, very clean and the food rating is Good. So yeah, go check it out.

Chick n? Straws – Menu with Prices – 151 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano

Top 3 of the worst dining experiences I’ve had!!! Came here for the first time with a party of 5. The waitress didn’t seem to know the menu very well and gave unhelpful answers…when asked how many the spicy pork entree would feed, she answered with “I don’t know how much you eat”. Not helpful, but fine. So then I asked how that compares to the $9 bowl obviously made to feed 1, to which she answered “oh, we’re out of spicy pork”… After ordering an appetizer and 20 wings which both took around 20 minutes prepare, we asked to add an order of the kimchi rice. We were told it would take 15 minutes make, as they didn’t have rice ready to serve. Still not full, we agreed to wait for the food. 20 minutes later, she hurriedly comes out with our tab, stating she just crossed out the order on the tab because it would take an additional 10 minutes. Confused, we waited the extra 10 minutes thinking we would get and pay for the rice later, as we were willing to wait the extra time and never told her to cancel…another 10 minutes later, we find out she canceled it FOR us and all left still hungry and disappointed by the experience. In fair judgement to the food, the chicken wings were pretty decent. However, spicy rice cakes were very subpar–hard to chew and undercooked. Would MAYBE consider coming here again only for the wings. Honestly, still baffled at the thought process behind the dining experience. Totally makes sense to cancel an order that might take too long, but it would just be nice for the customer to have say in the process.

New Canton BBQ Menu with Prices 2751 S Parker Rd, Aurora

Had to get my A1 maintenance on my car done across the street at Honda. And I was feeling a little nostalgic, I’ve passed by here a few times visiting HMart, and I really missed the fan hups we could get for under a buck (American) in Hong Kong/Macau so I went in to order a BBQ pork with rice. The employees were sitting at the back table(there’s only 3 tables) eating lunch, as a family I guess, conversing in Cantonese. I ordered in English, and she asked if I wanted steamed rice or the fried rice. I guess I should’ve ordered in Cantonese to be clearer. My Chinese isn’t great but I do know my food. Service was quick and she chopped up the meat right away. I know this is primarily a take out restaurant, but there was no offer of water or hot tea. There’s a refrigerator of purchasable cold drinks in the back, but I just had to do with no beverages. I didn’t see them drinking out of any cups either. My meal came out all on a single plate with a fork and spoon, I had to ask for chopsticks. It looks nice I suppose but I expected my rice to come in its own separate bowl to make it easier to eat with chopsticks. Bowl of rice in my left hand, chopsticks in my right grabbing stuff from the meat plate. I was all “Challenge Accepted” to the idea of eating rice off a plate with chopsticks anyway. The rice had a scoop of meat drippings sauce ladled onto it, which was authentic, and there were a couple pieces of cabbage and broccoli. Now onto the main part of the dish the BBQ pork/char siu. If it wasn’t red I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was char siu. I would’ve thought I was eating thinly sliced pieces of pork chop. It was salty and lean. I was expecting a bit more sweetness and more fat. There was 0 fat on my meat. The portions and price were alright and I left full for $11, but I ended get more satisfaction eating a $1.75 sandwich from the bakery inside HMart. Language wise they have decent English, and I’ve overheard them speaking both Cantonese and Mandarin to their other customers

Thaijindesu – Menu with Prices – 2180 William Styron Square S, Newport News

The surrounding area was decent with a nice park in the middle of the square and a pleasing look to the outside of the restaurant. The inside was also very greeting with soothing jazz music and just a nice atmosphere in general. My fiancé, her friend and I got there right when they opened at noon. There was nobody in the front at all and it was kind of awkward. Ok, no big deal. A gentleman came and sat us at a nice table next to the back window and everything was going smooth. They came and gave us some water and asked us if we wanted anything else to drink and we all got the Thai tea which we all thought was pretty good. Then they came back and took our orders and we all got the Mas Sa Mun that my fiancé and her friend were telling me about that was so good. Again they came back not too much later with our Curry’s and we all really enjoyed our meals and the restaurant itself. This has become a thing for us that we go to foreign restaurants and we usually stay after we pay and visit for a while and that’s what we did. It wasn’t busy at all and we felt rushed out like we were being a bother. The waiter came back to the table and was cleaning it up while we were still there at the table and didn’t excuse herself or anything. Not too bad but it was a little weird. Then she came up to the table and looked all around the table as if she was looking for a cash tip to be sitting there. How do I know this? She came back later after my fiancé came back from the restroom right before we were about to leave and asked us why we did not give her a tip and if she gave poor service. We actually both gave her one on our cards. At least 15% each. I don’t know too much about the way tipping works on a card, it may be be different than direct cash but that’s no way to talk to a customer! Terrible service in my view and will never be going back again.

Marufuku Ramen – Menu with Prices – 9292 Warren Pkwy Suite 370, Frisco

Tasty and inexpensive ramen for the family. Before I begin, I should note that my kids eat sushi, spicy, and a variety of foods. If the kids with you only eat certain foods, this might not be the best place especially when they find out there’s seaweed on their food. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Paikan ($11 each) and for the littles one order of the small (kids) rice and chicken ($5), and one side of edamame ($4) (because my kids will definitely eat the last two). I asked for an extra small bowl and split the rice and chicken between my boys. They immediately asked us to share our noodles. (Side note: you can get extra noodles added during dinner for $2-we didn’t need to, but we might now that our secret is out with the kids.) The noodles are perfect and the broth is even better. It is almost creamy, without having cream–maybe it’s miso? I have to be honest, I didn’t ask. The chicken, bean sprouts, seaweed all added flavor to the broth. They do include a soft boiled egg, which I just leave in the bowl because I like my eggs cooked well. I must be the only one because my 3-year-old requested a bite and I gave him half, then my 6-year old requested the other half of the egg. And just like that, my bowl was empty. $31 plus tax and tip for dinner for the four of us–yes please! And I just realized I didn’t mention service because I loved the food so much. The staff was friendly, quiet, and polite. I felt like a guest at someone’s home!

Ampersand Asian Supper Club – Menu with Prices – 940 N High St, Columbus

It was only a matter of time before I came here. I am the Ramen King (Self Proclaimed LOL). I love ramen so much, I once had a dream I was taking a bath in ramen ? …. Well let me get to the review before it gets too weird lol. I heard of Ampersand through my brother, he told me of a new place that just came up in the short. So I decided I had to go give it a test. Walking in, I really liked the interior. I’m a huge fan of natural light. Everything was well lit with big windows. This place also had a traditional Japanese look, with a very modern flair, clean and sleek. And who doesn’t like that? I also like the fact that they had one of those tables that sits low to the floor, like in traditional Japanese places. But I wish they had more than one. Next time ill wait for the table to open! Now when it was time to order I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. One of the basic and classic Ramen bowls you could get. So I normally use this as a baseline on how good a place is. When I got it, the presentation was done really well. It looked and smelled awesome. Now the first rule for me is to taste the broth first, this tells me a lot about how good the bowl is. If the broth is just ok, then the ramen won’t stand out. But the broth was actually pretty good. Nice depth to the flavor. Rich sort of flavor. The noodles had a nice bite, egg was good. But as I was eating my bowl and got about halfway through I noticed something alarming!! They forgot to put my PORK IN THERE! As you can see in the picture attached to this review. There was no pork included. I had to go back up to the counter and ask for my pork. It’s almost as if the guy didn’t believe me because he went to my table and looked at my ramen (that was already half eaten, so he probably really didn’t believe me ), but he got my pork really quickly. And let me tell you. When I added that pork with the nice char on it, into the rest of my ramen. It added a whole new depth of flavor that complemented the broth so well. I really REALLY wish I was given my pork from the beginning. Overall the ramen was pretty good. Having the pork from the start would have boosted it, but since I didnt I can only go off of what I had. The ramen also wasn’t very traditional, in a sense. It’s hard to explain. But this is a fusian place, so not everything will be “traditional”. But it was good nonetheless. Overall I will or sure come back: 1. To try the low table 2. To get the ramen again but with the pork in it from the start lol It’s not a traditional Japanese place. But that’s fine. They are doing their own thing which i like. It helps them build identity and their own brand. I’ll update this review upon further visits, I really want to try more on the menu. PS. Their free Tea is really good. Its has a weird sweet type of flavor thats different. Give it a try.

Johnboy’s Home Cooking – Menu with Prices – 3050 Canton Rd #3811, Marietta

30I love the food here, it is like good home cooking. A different special every day. Great fried chicken, assortment of vegetables, salad, really good desserts but I rarely have room for any. Love the fried green tomatoes. Open till 9pm, but try to go by 8pm. Plenty of food left but the wait staff is so eager for you to leave if you get there after 830, you feel very unwelcome. Cleaning all around you, putting up chairs, and the worst is the comments by the staff loud enough to be heard by customers. I was done by 902 after arriving at 830 pm, but having so much hustle bustle and cleaning all around me, it gave me indigestion and it was not pleasant to eat. Owners, please give hospitality to your customers and don’t mop the floors and sweep while people are eating. I will probably be back, have gone to John Boys for many years and enjoy the food and convenience. But only if I can go in the afternoon, when I have normally done. I rarely give a negative review for a restaurant, and love giving support to local places. But please, John Boys, show your customers more respect, and they will continue to love you.
