My first time in Haile Village, I stopped here for an evening snack. They had a breakfast sandwich on the menu — eggs, cheese, and bacon on an English muffin — and being a vegetarian, I asked to have the bacon left off the sandwich. To my surprise, spinach could be substituted for the bacon, an offer that I accepted without hesitation (spinach on a sandwich with other rich, flavorful ingredients is basically tasteless; adding it is a way to increase the healthiness of the meal without sacrificing taste). The sandwich was reasonably priced, about $5, and ready in only a few minutes. It was hot, tasty, and something I’d definitely order again. The dining area was comfortable, and a water cooler by the counter allowed me to refill my glass at will (it was nice not to repeatedly have to ask a server for more water, a tiresome routine at most restaurants). Employees were friendly, the bathroom was clean, and I really can’t think of anything to complain about. I was there in the early evening, just before sunset, and there was no line at the counter or lack of seating in the dining area. I would recommend this cafe to anyone, and will visit again next time I find myself in the Village.

Papa Paulie’s Grill – Menu with Prices – 624 Admiral St, Providence

I hope this was an outlier experience, but this place was a total bust. Sunday morning- horrible service. Smallest cup of coffee I’ve ever had at a diner. No refill, nobody to even ask for a refill. Syrup was this congealed sludge that dragged and pulled along my pancakes. Tasted like pond water. Could not consume. Wet home fries, undercooked eggs. To be fair, I had a bite of my wife’s bacon and it was awesome and her poached eggs were done just right. Prices were great, but I guess I get what you pay for. Never got a check, so we guessed and walked up to the counter to pay. The lady cooking took our payment without taking her nitrile gloves off and resumed cooking thereafter. I really try to give the benefit of the doubt to local restaurants, but this was an undeniably poor experience in terms of atmosphere and substance.

YETI Charleston – Menu with Prices – 360 King St, Charleston

Well, I never thought I would have frequented a Yet store so much since it’s opening. This place is great, so much stuff and the products are really amazing! They’ve got a little bar and 6-8p i believe is the Happy hour time with 3$ beer and wine. The have frose and frozen sake sangria. The beer was served in a Yeti beer tumbler so it stay cooler longer. Product wise, If you are military you get a fantastic discount. Tons of charleston pride in this store as well for Clemson fans! We have gotten several bottles and different lids and i LOVE it! i used to carry around 2 reusables because I am out and about all day for work and by 4p my water is warm and gross, especially in hot humid weather. But since my yeti purchase, I hardly have to refill and it’s cold up until i get back home in the evening. Dear Yeti… you are amazing and we love you! Thanks for keeping us hydrated! Thank you for being dog friendly and we will be slowly building our Yeti collection! Next up… COOLER!

Lake & Irving Restaurant & Bar – Menu with Prices – 1513 W Lake St, Minneapolis

One of my favorite restaurants for burgers! Fantastic burgers. Great place for a beer. I’ve been here several times and have always been happy, EXCEPT… server, “would you like another ice tea” me, “sure”. Look at the bill and its $6.00 for 2 glasses of iced tea!! Also, I ordered extra ice, so I probably got 10 oz. of tea for 2 glasses. Same is true for soda. $15.00 for a burger, plus $2.00 for bacon, it should be at least 1 refill, or at least mention it when you order a tea or soda. The owner reached out and apologized for the mix up. It is bottomless for the soda and tea. He also sent a certificate for my next visit! It wasn’t necessary but greatly appreciated. I really like when the owners and managers look at Yelp, to make sure people are pleased with their restaurants. As I stated, this is a great place with the best bacon cheese burger.

Mr. Deli And Mrs. Too! – Menu with Prices – 2023 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg

I was really craving a bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich for breakfast for a change up of my Saturday morning errands routine instead of something like McDonald’s … I wanted to try something new and this was such a good find! I didn’t anticipate the location to have as much seating/dining-in space as they did, but I got my order to go at the register up front and it was a quick turnaround. The service was good friendly – and you could tell that the gentleman at the front recognized a few of the in and out-going customers. The sandwich was hot off the grill, hearty, and so good – will definitely be back! Only small downside is that I love strong-brewed coffee and I just wasn’t a fan of this specific location’s coffee that I had alongside the sandwich this morning – that’s no reason not to go there for all the other good things though!

Plan B Lounge – Menu with Prices – 879 Rice St, St Paul

I could see why the bar is not very successful! You’re under staffed, stressed and avoiding eye contact with customers, especially those sitting at the bar. You make the customers feel like they’re a burden to you when they ask for water, to refill water or to go containers. Most places will ask to refill the water because they’re paying attention to their customers. If it’s a group by the bar, they’ll give the group a pitcher of water with cups. Something to think about.

Wine So Cru Menu with Prices 800 University Ave, Berkeley

LOVED my first time at Wine So Cru. I had high expectations given the reviews and pics, but it totally surpassed my expectations. Once through their doors, you’re immediately greeted with a modern and bright atmosphere and by their staff members. My 2 friends and I sat on 2 couches by the fireplace, which made me feel as if I was in someone’s fancy living room (decorated with a “Hello Fall” fit for the season). They offer an extensive list of wines and their staff is very knowledgeable. We got there at 5:15pm, which allowed us enough time for happy hour (till 6pm). It’s $2 off glasses of wine. Something I really appreciated was how our server asked us if we wanted to place another order right before 6 to take full advantage of their happy hour. How incredibly considerate! This doesn’t happen at most places. Plus, when we got water she kept checking in on us to refill our cups. So wonderful. There was plenty of seating available on a Thursday evening and it got busier as the night went on. I can’t wait to go back.

Wyndham Garden Shreveport – Menu with Prices – 1419 E 70th St, Shreveport

I was worried based on reviews but here is the skinny. Staying 4 nites so will update. Check in was seamless. Prompt and efficient. Room on 6th floor.halls humid but room comfortable and well appointed. Shower water took awhile to get warm but shower worked well otherwise. Bathroom was clean. Only complaint they left cleaning rag hanging on curtain rod. Elevator had issues door would close then reopen going up. Pushing a second time was the charm. The lounge downstairs was quiet for a Sunday and beers seemed low. Had a Stella for $4. Breakfast was free and off the menu. I had an bacon 3 egg omelet that was cooked perfectly and Hailey was a great server. Day 2 breakfast was equally as good-sausage 3 egg omelette. Hailey was again the server and was awesome. Good coffee too Day three: breakfast was simple two eggs bacon and toast. Gentleman server (never said name) wasn’t quite as attentive but service was still quick and efficient. Day Four:it’s Thursday and they switched to a breakfast Buffett. Usual items. Grits were cold but overall everything was ok. Server was non existent. Bill was waiting for me under my room door so check out was easy. Overall assessment : would stay here again. Room price was right and free real breakfast. Quiet room. Convenient to shopping and decent restaurants. Didn’t eat dinner here so can’t assess that.

Scooter’s Coffee – Menu with Prices – 401 W O St, Lincoln

I don’t recommend this place! First, it took a few minutes for anyone to come up to the counter and help me because the 4 employees were just standing around behind the counter talking to each other about their personal lives. When someone did come up, she was very friendly. I ordered a very plain egg salad sandwich which I expected could be made right away and pretty quick too given that it is very simple and there were no other customers and the employees weren’t doing anything. But I was given a buzzer so I would be notified when the sandwich was ready. Unfortunately, the buzzer never went off so I just kept sitting there and sitting there. Until finally someone noticed me looking around wondering what was taking so long. Evidentially, my sandwich had been sitting in the window for me to take for a while. BAD idea to give a buzzer to the one and only customer you have! Wouldn’t it be smarter to give personalized service by remembering who I am and bringing it to me, especially since I’m 9 months pregnant and sitting right next to the food window? Do you really need that many employees with that few customers? Maybe if you had less, they would focus more on work and the customers than each other.

La Sandwicherie Miami Beach – Menu with Prices – 229 14th St, Miami Beach

I returned here again about 8 1/2 years after posting my original review. Just as I did back then, I still give La Sandwicherie a solid 3 stars for “A-OK”, and I still don’t get the hype and the amount of 5 star reviews which, per Yelp’s rating scale, should indicate a place is “as good as it gets” and has no room for improvement. We came here at around 11:30 on a Saturday night; We were just starting our evening and wanted to get some food on our stomachs. After looking at the menu, we stood at the “Order Here” window at the far end of this eatery for several minutes, before giving up after being ignored and walked around to the other order window along the counter that’s located in the alley. After a while standing there, one of the employees finally asked if we “needed anything”, and we explained we’d been waiting to order food and beverages (for some reason I’d have thought that’d be self-explanatory since we were standing at the window marked “Order Here”?). I had the Italian, which contained ham, salami, prosciutto and provolone cheese, and when asked, I requested everything on it. I also had a Vitamin Water. All together, my sandwich and drink came to $14 before gratuity. The sandwiches here are good, but to be frank, I’ve had better Italian sandwiches with more flavor at other sandwich/sub places (including at least 1 national chain) for less $$. Also, at $10.90 for the sandwich alone, this place is definitely priced a few dollars higher than it should be. When we were here there was no more open stool seating available at the counter, but they do have flat tops covering the planters so if need be, one can have a seat there while eating.

Barrett’s Smokehouse – Menu with Prices – 4536 Stadium Dr, Kalamazoo

On the drive back home to Chicago, we had a sudden craving for Chinese food but around the WMU area, there were only burger, pubs, and Mexican places visible going towards the highway exit. We drove past “Barrett’s Smokehouse” and decided, “BBQ? Why not?!”. It is a big place with a lot of dry products such as seasonings, sauces, home made fudge, candies, snacks, etc. There are a lot of refrigerated items as well such as fresh asparagus, fresh strawberries(from their own farm), and a lot of meat. Sausages, steaks, ribs, hotdogs, burgers, with different marinades and seasonings. So we were looking forward to trying their food. Here is a breakdown of what I’ve tried: SPINACH SALAD w/ SMOKED PULLED PORK- it was alright. The pork was tender and the spinach was fresh. Nothing special. CHICKEN BBQ SANDWICH (w/sides of beans and macaroni salad)- the BBQ sauce for the chicken is very, very sweet. Not in a sweet good way. The macaroni salad was delicious though. The beans, forgettable. MAC & CHEESE w/ BACON- it’s basically boxed mac & cheese sprinkled with very few bacon bits. My son could probably make it better at home. Overall, for lunchtime on a beautiful Sunday, the dine-in area was almost empty except for another table of young couple dining in. I should have seen the sign. There were several people coming in buying the meat products in the refrigerators and counter area though, so maybe, the products that they sell are good. The service was efficient, friendly and nice. The place is clean, well maintained, and with a big parking lot outside. I’ve just had much better BBQ that’s why I did not like the things that I’ve tried at Barrett’s today.

Second Nature – Menu with Prices – 5026 Cass St, San Diego

My friends and I stopped in Second Nature for dinner this past Thursday and left wishing we hadn’t. We walked in a little past 9 pm and asked if it would be okay to eat dinner knowing that they closed at 10 pm. We were told yes and sat at a table in the dining room. Shortly afterward, a male server approached us. Without greeting us in the least, he immediately went into a spiel about how we needed to order food by 9:30 and that all alcohol would need to be off the table by 10 sharp even if we weren’t finished with it. We placed our drink and food order with him, and within seconds he returned with the CHECK. We hadn’t even received our drinks yet!! For the rest of our meal we were very rudely rushed by our server and the other two employees remaining in the restaurant. By 9:40 pm every chair in the restaurant had been propped up on the tables, the window covers had been closed and locked, and every time one of my friends or I finished with a water glass, wine glass, or plate, someone was immediately there to snatch it up so they could run it over to the dishwasher. We didn’t even dare ask for a second glass of wine considering the check was already on our table. When we went to pay our check (being respectful to do so before 10) we looked around only to find our server socializing with friends on the patio! Normally something that wouldn’t have bothered us, but felt very boorish considering the rush we had felt. We completed the bill and left the restaurant by 10. I have experience working in the food industry and understand the frustration that occurs when a party comes in towards the end of the evening. However, I believe that if a restaurant is open until a certain hour they should honor that and continue to make their guests feel welcome while they are dining. The employees at Second Nature did everything but this. The two stars are for the food, which was extremely delicious all around. I wish my experience had been better because I would have loved to come back and try more items off the menu. But unfortunately I feel that going out to eat is an experience with multiple contributing factors, and I do no think that I will be back considering my meal this past week.

Blue Owl Catering – Menu with Prices – 797 E Ray Rd, Gilbert

I will NEVER be able to say enough nice stuff about Blue Owl Catering (but let me try!) 1. They actually RESPONDED to my online request for information. I guess everyone else doesn’t want new business??? 2. We had a pleasant conversation about how to schedule, set-up, and offer options for my event. Hey, it wasn’t a HUGE event…but it was HUGE to me and my employees! 3. They showed up as requested prior to the event to check out the space and discuss logistics. 4. They showed up ON TIME for my event (saving me a lot of stress). Worked through rain issue and were ready to serve my employees a HOT BREAKFAST right on time. 5. My employees and I LOVED the food. We selected four items (biscuits & gravy, breakfast sandwich, pesto sunrise sandwich, and oatmeal to offer for HOT BREAKFAST MONTH. Those B&G were out the door in a HURRY because…DELICIOUS!!! I personally had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and it was truly one of the best breakfast sammies I’ve ever had. Eggs cooked to perfection, crispy bacon and mmmmmmelted cheese on a toasted bun that was the perfect consistency. 6. When (sadly) it was all over, we settled up quickly, they cleaned up and 30 minutes later, it was all a delicious happy memory. Thanks again Blue Owl Catering for making my event special.
