One week ago, I went to Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken and that was way too hot & spicy for my tongue. Reading the reviews for Papa’s, I decided to try them as an alternative – too bland. The place is a no-frills place with maybe a half-dozen tables for in-house eating in. The prices are excellent for what you get – $5.99 will get you an all-white meat (two breasts, one wing) dinner with a roll. Fries are an extra $1.99. Fancier sides aren’t here so no green beans, no red beans and rice like you might get at other chains. The chicken tastes almost exactly like Church’s – which is to say, not bad, but also not exciting, either. If there’s one plus to Papa’s it’s that their pieces seem a bit larger, so you will not be hungry after you eat. So if you’re not very picky about fried chicken, you’ll find Papa’s to be a good choice. If you’re looking for something a little more flavorful, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 9026 Archibald Avenue (7th & Archibald, Rancho Cucamonga

I purchased two half-chicken dinners here yesterday. They were cooked to my order and I had to wait a bit for my order. This was OK by me because the chicken was still very hot when I got it home (I live a 15 minute or so frome this location). Fancy that, HOT commercial fried chicken that had not been sitting in a hot case for who-knows how long drying out, whoo-HOO! Service was good and friendly. The pieces were quite large; they must be using the grocery store chickens, you know, the 5-6 pounders Vons and such sell (hard to find a true 3-4 lb fryer because they are all sold to the chains). Nice chicken flavor, not super salty like a LOT the stuff at other chains and grocery stores. The chicken breasts were cut in half because they were of the type that weights 12 oz plus, gigantor size, which is just fine by me. I had chicken breast that was VERY juicy, properly cooked! Everything else was nicely cooked too. The meat had a nice texture. It was not brined I am sure. Brining tends to make fried chicken more soft in texture. The texture and flavor of this was chicken and not of chickeny-salt. The collards were seasoned with some bacon and were tasty but way too salty. Beans and rice, well, the beans were not seasoned other than salt; nothing to write home about. The rolls were a standard white dinner roll and ok. This was decent, basic fried chicken and I would consider purchasing from here again because the chicken was not too salty, DID taste like chicken and was freshly cooked for me. The sides were meh. Recommended for a fresh, cooked, tasty and HOT (though not seasoned other than salt and pepper) fried chicken. Note: The chicken in fried in the same oil that the fish is fried in. This is not objectionable to me when the chicken is hot. When the chicken is cold, the fish flavor it quite evident. Remember to buy it then eat it HOT.

La Bonanza Authentic Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 17091 Newland St, Huntington Beach

Truly authentic. Everything is made to order from scratch and I gladly wait patiently for my meal. I absolutely enjoy the green sauce enchiladas with chicken. Every facet has a unique flavor. You can savor the freshly cooked chicken and the cream and cheese soaked in the salsa verse, which tastes like it was made minutes ago. The plate comes with beans and rice that are actually delicious by themselves. I could eat the beans and rice alone all day. Beans are perfectly salted and the rice is fluffy and has just the right amount of seasonings. I have to drive 30 miles to L.A. to find anything near the same tiers of flavor. 1) This isnt fast food. It is real and it is real good. Patiently wait for your meal to be made. 2) Call ahead to reduce wait time. 3) The chef hasn’t mentioned it on paper but she will swap out many ingredients upon request or add to them. And that is why I truly favor this place and the staff. The combinations you can come up with are limited only by your imagination. Chimichangas with fried egg on top? Breakfast burrito with carne asada? Yes please.

88 Bistro & Lounge – Menu with Prices – 1758 Junction Ave, San Jose

Stopped in for a late lunch on my way to the airport. I trusted the reviews. There was a very limited menu, basically beef noodle, chicken fried rice, and some burgers… egg rolls and fries an appetizer. This could be a matter of being there at the wrong time. There was a grand opening sign outside… The service was fairly prompt and very nice. I asked what was good between the beef noodle and chicken fried rice – the answer I got was they were both great, and the chicken fried rice came with a side of the broth also, and it was amazing – so I went for that and egg rolls. There were several people in the restaurant, all that seemed related to the place, since they were all asking how everything was, but they were sitting at tables eating and drinking also…. the fried rice was not indeed amazing, it was just ok. Very basic. It seemed to have a canned mixture of corn, beans, carrots, and Lima beans (or frozen?) some kind of bland chunks of chicken and rice. The guy sitting next to me has a delicious looking beef dish, so I’m guessing the regular menu might be better? I really wasn’t overall impressed.

Hana Teppanyaki House – Menu with Prices – 4036 River Oaks Dr #9, Myrtle Beach

Hana Teppanyaki House was our last meal of our vacation before we headed home. We came in a little before 6pm on a Friday. We were greeted upon entering and told to sit anywhere we wanted. There were a handful of 4 top tables and a few booths inside. The restaurant is a bit small but quaint and nicely decorated. Our server, Linda, was a doll. She gave us recommendations and they were on point. She was friendly, personable, and just all-around awesome. She truly made us feel welcome. The other staff members we encountered were just as friendly and warm. Throughout our meal, there were several people that came in for carryout orders. They too were greeted (all by first name) and welcomed in. We started with a Popcorn Chicken and Green Bean appetizer based on a recommendation from our server. It did not disappoint! It was cuts of chicken in a light batter with crispy green beans. There was a quite a bit of salt on the dish so you may want to ask for little or no salt if you order this. The chicken was great. The green beans were flash fried and crispy. It was delicious. Our meals (dinner combos) are cooked Hibachi Style and are served with soup, salad, veggies, and a choice between fried rice or noodles. The House Soup (homemade chicken broth with egg, chicken, bacon, corn) was so good. I’ve never had a soup like it. We all opted for the House Salad with creamy dressing (tastes like peppercorn ranch). The salad was fresh. We loved the dressing. We ordered: – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & Chicken with noodles and veggies (broccoli, zucchini, onions, mushrooms) – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & Scallops with noodles and veggies (broccoli) – Dinner Combo: Filet Mignon & fried rice with veggies (broccoli, zucchini, onions) All of us throughly enjoyed our meals. We asked for sides of teriyaki sauce and it elevated the meal! The filet was cooking to our liking. My parents loved the noodles. The fried rice was really food. I loved the sauce the chicken was cooked in. The veggies were so soft. Overall, we loved everything about this experience in dining here and we will definitely return the next time we are on vacation.

Anjuels Rincon Latino – Menu with Prices – 12411 White Bluff Rd, Savannah

Drove down from Guyton to drop the dog off and wanted something good to eat outside the spectrum of fast food. Pulled up the map on Yelp and found Anjuels just four minutes away. The pictures posted were enough to get me there. Menu is different every day. Friday was stew chicken and goat, so I got a takeout order or each, with a nice helping of yellow rice with shrimp, beans, and fried plantains. The drive home was torture as the aromas slowly escaped the bag at each bump in the road. Turned out the wife wasn’t hungry, so I got to eat my share of both. Chicken and goat were both equally delicious. What really brought it home was the rice and beans. Each separately were really good, but together they were packed with flavor. The fried plantains were perfectly cooked. I’d go back just for the rice and beans.

El Nuevo Amanecer Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 534 Pleasant St, Worcester

Finally got to stop in for lunch. I asked what the daily special was and given a ton of options from grilled/fried chicken ,steak, fish and chips, rice& beans, fried plantains and more. I opted for the fish & chips for my daughter and the fried chicken for myself. When the food arrived it tasted as good as it looked. I sampled the battered fish and it was perfectly seasoned . I than tried my chicken and it was crunchy and flavorful . The rice was perfectly cooked and beans delicious. After this great meal I decided to bring home a slice of tres leches cake. The cake was also moist and not to sweet at all. I will be coming back to try all the other things on the menu.

Plantation Buffet Menu with Prices 1119 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy, Athens

Iâ??ve ate a lot of crappy â??home cookingâ? in my life but this is the kind of place your grandma would be proud of! The building looks like trash and the decor needs dusting but I donâ??t eat here to get my eyes tickled, ok? The fried chicken is the stuff history books are written about. The fried okra got my mother slapped. Hard. The green beans will literally transport you back in time to your childhood where you are a kid again and green beans are on your plate. The cornbread, oh sweet mother of George Washington, the CORNBREAD!!! You know what, whatever. Just go eat there. I donâ??t have time for this.

Super Rico Peruvian Chicken – Menu with Prices – 2330 Gateway Blvd, Fredericksburg

When it comes Peruvian chicken restaurants it comes down to 3 things in my opinion. One is obviously the chicken, but even with that, there are a few must haves for the chicken. The seasoning is key. When I can eat the chicken by itself without relying on the sauces to save it, that in my is a win. The second thing are the sauces. Typically it is a white (non-spicy) and green (spicy), which they do charge $.25 for extra sauce. I always trade in my white for green, as I am not a fan of mayo based sauces. For me the green sauce has to have a good balance of flavor and heat. I have had places where the heat is too overwhelming, and so you miss out on the flavor. Lastly the sides…sides are important, and having a variety of well seasoned sides is key in making the full yummy experience. With all that being said, Super Rico nailed all 3. Chicken was well seasoned and juicy (did get dark meat). Green sauce was slightly higher in the spice scale, but was not too far that it lost the flavor. I ordered the black beans and fried rice as my sides. Both were good. A bit too much rice given, but I notice that heavy hands with sides is a common theme in these types of spots. Leftovers for me!! The restaurant itself was clean, plenty of room to sit. Overall a great inexpensive lunch find. I will be back to explore the non-chicken options, as well as other sides next time I am in town.

Tiger Noodle House – Menu with Prices – 1721 Spring Green Blvd, Katy

Instant favorite. You can smell how great this restaurant is before you even step over the parking lot’s curb. The inside is great. Used, but clean and welcoming. We started off with the pork bao which came out steaming hot and was lovely. The meat is flavored well and the soup inside is succulent and well seasoned. My boyfriend swears the wrapper is sweet like a pancake but I think he’s silly. It’s served with fresh julienned ginger which is a great touch. Then our entrees came out and I was shocked, I repeat, s h o c k e d, by the portion sizes. My boyfriend got this sliced beef soup that was the size of my stomach! I got kung pao chicken with fried rice. And compliments of the house, we got these a-maz-ing dry fried green beans. I cannot stress enough how much of a show stopper those beans are. They are incredibly well seasoned and addictive! I found myself spooning the garnish onto my rice! I can’t wait to visit again just for that. My dish was great, although I wish the peanuts could have been toasted more; they tasted a little raw. Their fried rice can hold its own although it isn’t the best. I am awarding a fifth star for the menu’s diversity, the friendly staff, the amazing food, and my willingness to return! Thank you, Tiger Noodle! I will bring my whole family next!

Bobbie D’s Southern Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3201 W 65th St, Little Rock

I was really looking forward to the Sunday buffet I seen online but it wasn’t available. So, I ordered a large meal consisting of fried chicken, baked chicken, chicken spaghetti, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing, yeast roll and sweet tea. Needless to say, I’m stuffed. My personal favorites we’re the baked chicken (nice and juicy,) dressing (with gravy, seasoned to perfection) green beans (the broth makes it worth it) and the sweet tea. My fried chicken (although seasoned well) was a little on the dry side but please take into consideration that I came minutes before closing and it’s sitting on a line, buffet-style. I will come early next time and give it a fair chance. The service was excellent and the employees treat you like family. Very clean environment and the young waitresses checked on me religiously. Good food and good service deserves 5-stars, in my book. I shall return!!!

Kim’s Hamburgers Etc – Menu with Prices – 2600 W Waco Dr, Waco

We loved Kim’s!!! We got chicken fried steak, steak fingers & hotdogs. We took it to go and it was still super yummy by the time we got home to eat it. We agreed that the gravy is really good. I loved my mashed potatoes and green beans – they do the green beans right by cooking them up with bacon! Yum!!! The hotdogs were good, but it was the steak fingers and CFS that stole the show. I’m actually excited to try their pork chops, chicken fried chicken & catfish specials. Also, I can’t leave out the bottled drinks. My husband got a Texas Red Creme thinking it would sort of like Big Red. Oh my gosh! It was so much better! It was like ice cream in a bottle. You can really taste the real cream. Our kids stole them from us they were so good. They have about 12 different flavors. The decor was really fun as well – lots to look at so I know next time we go in, my kids will enjoy it. Definitely would recommend.

Chop Chop Rice Co. Menu with Prices 2818 Wolflin Ave, Amarillo

This place is just okay. Tried it out after traveling through Texas and wasn’t left with many options at 9 o’clock at night. When I ordered the staff was very friendly and polite. I got chicken teriyaki fried rice with pineapples and spring rolls. It was brought to my table quickly and it looked good. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside and mushy in the middle. I’m guessing they’re prepackaged frozen ones that they nuked in the microwave. Also, I wouldn’t really call what they served fried rice though. Lima beans and corn aren’t typically found in fried rice, but it didn’t taste terrible, just odd. The rice tasted like something you’d get from a box, not the jasmine or sushi rice you get with traditional Chinese dishes, and there wasn’t more than 2 or 3 ounces of chicken with the pineapples. It definitely wasn’t worth the amount I got charged. Overall, nice staff and clean interior but not somewhere I’d visit again. Skip this place and head to Panda Express if you have the option. Their teriyaki chicken and fried rice is a better deal.
