Turns out this is the closest panaderia to our place, which came in handy one night when we had a craving for some pan dulce. Much to our pleasure (and no less surprise), this place was open late into the evening! The inside of the store itself is not that impressive (somewhat dark and dingy), but the selection was pan was fantastic. We of course picked up a few pieces of our old favorites (conchas, marranos, and empanadas) in addition a few new things we had never tried. The palmera was unbelievably buttery, flaky, and and crispy. We also tried cajetas (caramel empanadas), which were AMAZING. We grabbed nearly a dozen pan dulces for only a few dollars. Next time I’ll have to try their custard empanadas!

El Mejor Pan Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1517 Lafayette St, Laredo

I have been tasting “Conchas” all my life, and this is the best “Conchas”I have tasted; the concha melts in your mouth and does not crumble when you cut in half. El Mejor pan is one of Laredo’s top bakeries that does not take advantage of your dollars since they keep their prices low. So everybody can appreciate their sweet bread.

Cesiah’s Panaderia – Menu with Prices – 1519 34th St, Lubbock

I’ve been here multiple times and every time, the breads and pastries have been excellent. Every day, there is a different selection of items and there are many breads to choose from. The breads are also very cheap, ranging from $.50 to $1, which is a very good deal. My favorite things to get here are the churros and the cake. The churros are filled with cream so the contrast between the crispy churro and soft pastry cream is really nice. I think that the churros are baked because they aren’t as greasy as typical churros, which I like as it doesn’t leave me feeling heavy. I like the cake because it is very moist and has the right amount of sweetness. There are different types of cake, but my favorite is the one with strawberry and cream cheese swirls. They also have the typical pan dulce such as conchas and cuernos. Their conchas are pretty good. The bread is extremely soft and the icing on top adds a nice sweetness. The cuernos are like the conchas but shaped as a horn and the bread is lightly seasoned with cinnamon which is a nice addition. Along with bread, they also have typical Mexican candies and snack, such as mango lollipops with chili and tamarind. They have a fridge where they keep things like oaxaca cheese and rice pudding. They also have fresh tortillas. The place is pretty sketchy but I highly recommend trying it out as the breads and pastries are very well made.

Rincon Argentino – Menu with Prices – 2525 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder

I love that Boulder now has a unique spot to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Rincon Argentino’s Empanadas are delicious and fresh, there are many different options for meat eaters and vegetarians alike with some unique flavor combinations. Last time I was in I ordered the ham and cheese and mushroom- I Loooooved the ham and cheese, the dough it was baked in was buttery and flaky and you just can’t go wrong with the warm ham and cheese combo! Definitely a comforting flavor, I wish I had ordered more! I also like the mushroom, but wasn’t as over the moon about it as the other- there was a verity of savor mushrooms baked in an open face style empanada (not the pocket). One downside is their GF options, my boyfriend can’t eat gluten so we got him the spicy chicken empanada and just weren’t as impressed. The dough was okay, but the chicken was dry. I felt that it needed something a little extra. Also the filling options for the gluten free empanadas is very limited. I do love their patio, it sits under a beautiful large tree and there are lovely lights strung about. Even though you’re right at a busy intersection, you feel a little secluded! Above all, I really love their traditional empanadas, the GF options could use work but hopefully they’ll work on that!

Blue Oak Coffee Roasting Menu with Prices 1717 20th St, Bakersfield

I cannot believe that I have not posted a review for this wonderful place! I have come here several times, and I am always wowed by what I encounter. The baked goods are some of the best and most creative that I have ever had. Today I had The apple tart, which is my most favorite thing on the menu. It has a flaky crust, and a firm buttery center full of sliced apples with a very subtle lemon undertone. The texture is soft on the inside and buttery and crispy on the outside. I always buy one when I visit whether I am hungry or not! They also have a series of boozy cookies: my favorite is the Cabernet chocolate that is dusted with sea salt. Divinely sophisticated. I am not a coffee drinker but I do like the hot cocoa with a shot of espresso. They have several varieties of tea, which is better than other coffee places with usually limit their choices to around 4. Please come in and support this local business. You will thank me later.

Neptune Bakery & Deli – Menu with Prices – 1612 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City

The Neptune Bakery is a hidden Jersey City treasure! When you walk in, it’s fairly unassuming seems like any other bakery or deli but they have a great variety of baked goods and pastries. I always come in for the Egg Custard, a favorite of mine growing up and getting them every so often at a Filipino Bodega on West Side. I haven’t had one since, but got to relive my childhood when I discovered Neptune Bakery about a year back. There’s not much to say about Neptune aside from the fact that they are known for their Egg Custards ($1.25 each) and all of their pastries look fresh and absolutely scrumptious. The egg custard has a flaky and chewy outside crust, with a velvety soft sweet interior with a subtle of butterscotch that’s perfectly heated on the top. The best part is that they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can stop in literally any time. If you haven’t visited yet, pop by for an egg custard or two!

Muddy Paw Coffee & Park Eagle Rock – Menu with Prices – 4610 Eagle Rock Blvd, Los Angeles

I’m always excited when a dog friendly place opens in Los Angeles. When I heard that Muddy Paws had opened in my neighborhood I immediately checked it out. This place is very dog friendly! They have free dog treats and a special yard area in the back for your furry friend. I love that they donate a portion of their sales to a different rescue each month. Their baked goods are vegan and some are also gluten-free. My first time there I had the coffee cake. It was soooo good. A nice crumb topping and a hint of spice. There empanadas are amazing! My favorite is the mushroom. They have a wide variety including Nutella and Beyond Meat. The cookies are good. The lemon square has a nice buttery shortbread crust – not too sweet with the perfect hint of tart. The biscuit is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The pop tart is made with the perfect pie crust! Crispy and flaky! The cherry filling provided a perfect balance. Their coffee is amazing! So much better than Starbucks. It’s well balanced with a nice, rich taste and smell. Treat yourself to some good eats and coffee and feel good knowing you’re also helping our furry friends. Also, the gal with the pink hair is super sweet!

Hudson Cookie Co. – Menu with Prices – 3611 St Johns Bluff Rd S, Jacksonville

I first met Janice and Mike many moons ago when they had a table set up at a local mall to showcase and sell their cookies. I became an instant fan when I took my first bite of a Southern Pecan Caramel cookie. No kidding: it was love at first bite! The buttery flavor of their homemade caramel along with the perfect texture of the surrounding cookie (not too soft and not too crispy) instantly captured my attention. Since that time, my family and I have gone on to try most every flavor these two have turned out: original chocolate chip, caramel butter, cowboy, and others. Always consistently good, it is evident that high quality ingredients are being used in these recipes. About a year ago, Mike and Janice decided to open a brick and mortar store and we have visited them there as well. As friendly and welcoming as they were on the day we met them, Mike & Janice are wonderful contributors and supporters of the Jacksonville community and surrounding areas, always a plus for me when supporting local businesses. Our most recent experience with Flippin Good Cookies involved a custom order for some iced & decorated shortbread cookies which we gave as favors for my daughter’s graduation party. We provided FGC with our “art” and they took it from there. When the box of cookies was delivered, we were so thankful that we had requested them in cellophane baggies with ribbon ties, or I think we would have eaten them all before the luncheon… they were THAT pretty and they were THAT tasty! The design was beautiful – exactly what we wanted – and the shortbread was, in a word: magical. Completely on point and had a delicious — but not heavy — buttery goodness. Bottom line: you will FLIP over Flippin’ Good Cookies!

Amaro’s Bakery – Menu with Prices – 6408 Padre Island Hwy, Brownsville

I don’t know about the previous reviewer, but their conchas are the best I’ve ever tried, the bread is super soft and the one time I’ve had bread left over it lasted almost a week before it got hard and it never got mold. I’m not rich by any means, but I though that their prices were super cheap and I’m able to buy over a dozen for about four dollars. It is not the best looking bakery, but the bread is awesome.

Raising The Bar – Menu with Prices – 1233 N 3rd St, Harrisburg

Hands down the BEST almond croissant that I’ve ever had in my life- even compared to the ones tasted in France. Buttery, thousands of crispy yet tender layers and an amazing balance of sweet almond filling and a dusting of powdered sugar. I will dream about them until next weekend. Can’t wait to try everything else. Super excited for this broad street market addition!

The B’s Kitchen Vietnamese & Asian Cuisine Menu with Prices 1811 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin

The owner is so kind and courteous, that’s what made the largest lasting impression. The meat and just entire size of these sandwiches is CRAZY generous. I usually would have 2 bahn mis, here I j just need the one. The owner PACKS it with meat — like I’ve never seen that much meat in a bahn mi, but oh my God it works. The bread sings at this place. It’s golden, crunchy, flaky, just perfect. This was all so good that I honestly don’t think I properly chewed my food, and I definitely didn’t have time to take a picture. I really regret not taking a picture for y’all because it was truly masterfully beautiful. The beef bahn mi wasn’t as good as the chicken, in my opinion, but my husband had the exact opposite opinion — so just go ahead and get both. You get an unbelievably great meal, for an unbelievable price, with unbelievably generous portions. Go, eat, and be nice to the kind older man that owns this place. Some places you can just tell people put their heart into.

Donuthut & Deli Menu with Prices 2401 M St #100, Bakersfield

Donut Hut & Deli absolutely has donuts! I did not notice a deli, though. Did I miss it? Was hard to peel my eyes away from their fully packed and nicely presented display cases. Bought me two donuts to satisfy my sugar craving. One Custard filled Chocolate donut and one Chocolate French Cruller. Was surprised it costed me almost 4 dollars for just the two donuts, but it was nice of the guy to add some glazed donut holes in the bag. The Chocolate Cruller tasted yummy. Donut holes were good. Was disappointed with the Custard filled Chocolate donut because there was very little custard inside. Tough luck for me. Despite the fact that I was not happy with one of the donuts, I’d still return the next time I was in the area craving my sugar fix. The shop was neat and tidy. Nice seating area. Polite service.

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard – Menu with Prices – 12286 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Stopped in here after work for a treat with a friend. I got a “gelati”,which is a cup of italian ice with a big squirt of frozen custard on top. This was delicious. The ice was flavorful, and the custard was smooth and creamy. The fatty custard provides a nice foil to the more watery, fruity ice. My only gripe is that it was kinda expensive for what it is. I think the small gelati was about five bucks. Also, there’s no indoor portion to the building. It was a hot day and we had trouble finding a seat in the shade.
