Senior Miguel impressed me with his pastries. My husband and I were visiting Evansville for the weekend. We were up late Saturday night and I was looking at a book that was named Evansville something something…It introduces one to the city of Evansville and some of its restaurants…….any ways I was flipping thru it and I ran into Mexican restaurants and other things. I noticed some delicious Mexican pastries and immediately I told my husband that I wanted to go there Sunday morning…. Departing our hotel, we went straight to Panaderia San Miguel a few miles down the road. Nothing fancy about the building, just good freshly baked sweet bread… Mr. Miguel……gracias, you out did yourself. Till next time…I wish I could post pictures here. Look at trip advisory there are some there.

Taqueria La Loma Menu with Prices 459 Darrow Rd, Akron

I have long held the position that Taqueria La Loma is one of the best restaurants in Northeast Ohio. For years they have commanded five star reviews from hundreds and hundreds of people. Read my earlier review for a little background on the restaurant and for recommendations on my favorite things here. But they keep getting even better. The beauty of La Loma is in there dedication to authenticity and making everything from scratch in house every day. They are always consistent and the food is always fantastic. They have employees that care about what they do and have been around since the beginning. Recently they transformed half of their attached store into a panadería, or, Mexican bakery. And the dedication for authentic flavors and not taking shortcuts is clearly seen in all of the delicious traditional Mexican pastries and breads that they continuously bake throughout the day. If you are unfamiliar with traditional Mexican pastries I recommend that you try their take on Chamuco, Gallina, Coyota, and various Pan Fino such as Leo and Cuerno. Some of these are shown in the attached pictures. If you like authentic Mexican food or just appreciate the best-in-class of any particular cuisine then you really need to take a trip to Taqueria La Loma and experience a little bit of Mexico City thousands of miles north in Akron, Ohio.

Panaderia San Miguel – Menu with Prices – 1419 E Erwin St, Tyler

Taqueria San Miguel is a wonderful place. Ysidro is the happy owner, as well he should be. It is the central point of the neighborhood, and the walk up traffic is steady. They make mexican bread, fruit waters, and, of course, a great taqueria. All types of tacos present themselves, and a lot of english speakers seek this place out because it’s worth the effort. On the weekends, menudo, birria de chivo, and carnitas are offered. The mango liquada is the best I’ve ever had. All types of folks eat there, and I enjoy people watching. This is real mexican food, it ain’t tex-mex, and they don’t really make provision for delicate gringo tastes. It’s really like being in Mexico, in a popular neighbor taqueria-panaderia-fruteria. Everything I’ve eaten there has been first rate, and you should give TSM a try. Once you’ve eaten authentic Mexican food, you realize what tex-mex really is, pablum….

Bread & Sons – Menu with Prices – 195 Bank St, Ottawa

We were attracted by the scent of their fresh oven baked pastries just cooling off on the shelves and we had to go in to take a peak. We noticed a lot of people inside self serving and picking out the pastries they wanted into their boxes. We picked out a few pastries and cheese buns and took it to go …boy was it freshly baked and warm. I had a few already and I don’t regret it. Service : super pleasant and helpful very nice staff and they seemed to care a lot ! They explained to us which ones were popular and the different kinds of pastries ( some were savoury and some were more sweet) Ambiance: it was fun and the smell definitely wooed us in …. lots of great varieties. Overall, definitely recommend this little bakery as its a cute hidden gem and if you’re in the area and you’re looking for a quick bite of delight I totally recommend you trying this place out so delicious

Reunion Bread Co / Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3350 Brighton Blvd #140, Denver

Reunion Bread was recently nominated as one of Bon Appetit’s top 50 restaurants in 2019 and they wholeheartedly deserve it! The Source is kind of a confusing place to navigate. Basically, one building existed where Reunion Bread and Acorn and a couple other places were and then a hotel was built right by it and so they connected the building to the hotel and now the entire thing is called The Source. The hotel has a bar on the top floor and some other shops, but where you really want to go is Reunion Bread, which is this super small little bakery shop next to Acorn. Just follow the aroma of delicious bread and baked goods! When my friend and I went, we were unable to get there much before closing, which meant there was little to nothing left other than a few loaves of baked bread. I pretty much expected all of the items to be gone, so I wasn’t upset about it, but so relieved to find out that there were just a few loaves left. Even that last remaining loaves were unbelievable. I really wanted to try their rye bread anyway (because I had heard it was amazing) and the owner, who greeted us, was so kind and generous – offered us a chunk of the rye. The smell of the rye, even before eating it, is so intense. The bread itself is soft, and chewy, yet the outside is crunchy and crackles. It has a touch of sour, with earthy, carway-type, deep flavor. I immediately bought a loaf (or two!). The owner let us know that we should come back for the pastries, which are apparently phenomenal and that we should arrive before 9am or 10am to get any, especially since their recent fame in Bon Appetit. The owner was so kind and generous and chatted with us for a bit about how he makes the bread and the types of flour he uses. Overall, Reunion Bakery has great bread (I also tried and purchase the last white loaf) and I can’t wait to go back for more!

Cafe New Orleans – Menu with Prices – 3939 Gentilly Blvd, New Orleans

Heavenly gem buried inside the student center of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Don’t snoop around for fancy pastries; mostly packaged chips/cookies. But they did have some baked muffins, a pulled pork sandwich for lunch, and student-budget-friendly 40-cent boiled eggs. They have some tables/chairs, but there’s plenty of space in the student center itself. Forget the decor. Why 5-stars? The cheapest espresso drinks I’ve ever seen. They even do soy and almond milk lattes. I wish I didn’t live fifteen hundred miles away.

Panaderia Margo – Menu with Prices – 443 Stocking Ave NW, Grand Rapids

Fresh baked Mexican style pastries every day. Small store, but you’re coming for the bakery, not to shop! Use trays and tongs to pick your pastries, bring to clerk to have bagged and to pay. Most items are less than $1.00 and so yummy when fresh and warm!

Brown Palace Coffee & Tea Co. – Menu with Prices – 321 17th St, Denver

We enjoyed a little staycation at The Brown Palace last night and this morning with the cold snowy weather we wanted a quick breakfast before heading home. We stopped in the little coffee shop which is located just inside the front doors of the hotel and so happy we did. I ordered a cappuccino and croissant. All of the pastries are baked in house and DELISH! Others in my party had the apple pastry, breakfast burrito and a bagel. Thinking you need to get there early as once the pastries are gone, they are gone. I was happy to get the last croissant!!! For a $5 to go burrito my husband said it was pretty good. They were out of bacon ones, so it was just eggs. The coffee was nice and strong and my cappuccino was quite good. There is no seating in the little shop, but we found chairs and a table in the lobby rather than taking the food up to our room. Not sure when we will be lucky enough to stay at the hotel again, but will stop by this coffee place anytime we are down this way.

Tia Maria Panaderia y Pasteleria – Menu with Prices – 44 Sebastopol Ave, Santa Rosa

Sometimes, a place is so darned good, you’re glad it’s not closer to home. Tia Maria is just such a place for us. Costeaux croissants, for starters. And the same finesse and attention to detail and quality that delightful institution has always demonstrated, brought to traditional Mexican breads and pastries. And local favorite Bella Rosa Coffee as a worthy accompaniment. In a word, wow. The place is lovely, with giant, colorful paper flowers on the walls and great Spanish-language music in the air. Warm, welcoming, helpful staff and customers as interesting and diverse as you’d see in a bistro or coffeehouse in New York, Paris, or San Francisco. But the stars are the pastries, made and filled with the best ingredients and techniques my wife and I have experienced since we moved to Santa Rosa more than 14 years ago. If like both of us, you weren’t blessed to have a fantastic Mexican aunt and baker in your family, your days of disappointment are over. Visit Tia Maria Panaderia y Pasteleria. Whether you eat there, take out, or both, you will leave happy.

Cuban Island Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5508 Williamson Rd, Roanoke

Thank you yelp for always helping me find the best places to eat when I am out of town! I sent my husband to order food so I could stay in the car with our dog. I got the Cuban sandwich, and my husband got the fried pork with rice and beans and plantains. He also got us a chocolate flan cake and the pineapple flan cake. This place was packed with locals, talking about how great the food was! My husband even got to use his Spanish to order food! The real Cuban bread really made my sandwich special, even though I won’t say it’s the best Cuban I’ve ever had. It was solid, and it was huge, it was easily as big as my forearm. My husband’s pork and rice and beans were delicious, we are trying to figure out how they cooked the rice, I had a reddish tint to it. Flan cakes were out of this world! They’ve recently moved locations, same street just a couple miles down the road. Look for the yellow building!

BF Bakery & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 430 N McKinley St, Corona

I have to be honest when I say that for a short period of last year, I sent my hubby here practically everyday to bring home a mexican blueberry bun for me & me alone . This bakery is located in the 99 Ranch Market off of McKinley St. They have a huge selection of asian pastries. Me being Korean, i’ve had my share of pastries from every asian country you can imagine. But last year I was introduced to a Mexican blueberry bun…… it was love at first bite. I questioned the girl that continuously brought out fresh pastries, why they named it Mexican bun?.. her answer was because it looked like the one’s they make…. hum? Ok? I’m married to a Mexican. She probably had no clue… so I didn’t get crazy as us asian can get. I figured that’s what she was told so oh well , I’ll except her answer and continue buying out their entire inventory. I didn’t care who/what/where it was created. … I just knew it had me at hello. It’s in a large puffy /Simi sweet/ toasted bun stuffed with blueberry puree /cream. When I tear into mine , it looks as though I’ve performed a operation on it , because I have to have a portion of the cream on every bite of the bun…. loved it! This year is a whole new story. Because of a couple issue’s, I no longer eat them…. ? until this day. I don’t know if it was time or my taste bud’s, but something was definitely different. The filling was not a tasty as i recall. Maybe it’s my imagination but it’s not a item i must have everyday anymore. I still recommend you coming in trying something because they really do have fresh baked pastries all throughout the day.

National Bakery – Menu with Prices – 520 S Stanton St, El Paso

Come here for authentic Mexican pastries and bread. The bread and pastries are made daily and baked fresh with love and care for its customers. Friendly service and located in downtown El Paso. You might even see a game of dominos going on with some of the regular customers. Great coffee and cold drinks are also available! Simply an awesome destination!

Emillio’s Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3905 State St, Salem

I found this place thanks to a coworker who told me about it while I was visiting Salem. They said the Mexican bread is fresh and they have these amazing breakfast sandwich things. I went, and the outside doesn’t look like much, and honestly you wonder what you might find inside. Looks don’t always means anything because it was filled with delicious pastries insides! I went at 8am and everything was super fresh. Pastries were warm, you could smell fresh breads being baked, and you could just tell they’d been up for hours getting things ready. I ordered a few pastries, which you just grab a tray, some tongs, and go to the display and grab them yourself. Kind of like when you go to the grocery store and grab your own donuts. Then i asked the man for some breakfast sandwich things and omg they were fresh out of the oven! They are these delicious breads filled with cheese and ham or you could get cheese and jalepeno. The filling is literally baked inside the fresh baked bread. There are no holes or cuts where they just filled prebaked bread with cheese. Honestly, since I’ve had them I can’t stop thinking about them. My picture attached doesn’t do it justice at all. The most amazing breakfast items I’ve had. Plus, i paid about $12 for 5 pastries and 5 sandwiches which was a great deal.
