Paddles Up Poke is definitely on a monthly rotation at our house. It’s one of my top go-to “I’m not cooking tonight” locations. I’d love to say that I’ve tried everything and give it all two thumbs up, but I’m in love with the Bogus Basin Bowl and can’t bring myself to stray from it’s goodness. I frequently get the burrito version for my kids and cut it up like a sushi roll when I get home. I’ve also ordered them the kids bowls and they gobbled those up too. If your kids aren’t into fish, they do have chicken and tofu options too. I agree at first pass it seems a bit pricey, for a family of 4 it is easily a $40+ meal but . . . when I consider the comparison of the price for a sushi roll, I think there is easily more bang for your buck here. They do have a loyalty program and after 10 purchases you earn a free bowl, so there’s that. Additionally, they advertise in the monthly valuepak that comes in the mail for a buy one get one 1/2 off, so before you toss that blue envelope and consider it junk mail pull out their coupon! Additional offerings include single serve portions of local ice cream by the Stil and Good Vibes Kombucha on tap. I have to hold back from a solid 5 stars only because lately I’ve noticed lots of new staff and though they have all been very friendly, they have been hit and miss with quality control on portion sizes and such. I totally understand the struggle of running a business and getting everyone trained, so I’ll just keep a closer eye on the prep of my bowls when I see new faces for awhile. Not a deal breaker in my book. Note: They are currently not open on Sundays, but I heard they may consider offering this in the future.

Pokeworld – Hibachi Express Menu with Prices 5565 Essen Ln unit A+B, Baton Rouge

Love this place. Love the service I get. Always with a smile. Love the build-your-own bowls. Like subway but in a bowl and sushi!! What I think beats everything else is the hibachi they have now. Soooooo delicious!! It was confusing for me at first ordering but the employees will explain everything to you. Made my experience a great one. 5/5 stars. I definitely recommend this place. If you’re not a sushi person then please trust me when I say you will be. Order the LSU roll. You will LOVE it. Go on and try it everyone. They even have what i think is sushi burritos!! Try something new!!

Coco and Moss – Menu with Prices – 30 Barnard St, Savannah

Rolls and poke bowl were on the whole great. Place has California vibes and Cali prices. We found this place while walking around during Savannah Pride. Place was pretty busy and loud. The decor has a California vibe: bright colors, laid back uniforms, lots of crisp brass colors. Here’s what we had for lunch: Edamame – Had garlic in it! What a shocker! I could smell it when it came out. It took forever to come, and when the waiter brought it, he told us our food was already ready. Unfortunately with the garlic I could not eat much. Pink Lady Poke Bowl – They are able to make the poke bowls gluten-free even though they are not labeled this way. I got mine without onions, scallions, and sriracha. It was decent, but the rice was the best part. Tasted like lots of rice vinegar, which I love. Not enough sushi places here season their rice appropriately or even at all. This was a major plus. Volcano roll – Hot mess. Alex was not a fan of the topping. He ate the roll underneath. Alaska roll – This was his favorite roll because it had a “nice balance” between the cream cheese and cooked salmon. Spider roll – Also a hit roll for Alex. With a soda, it was $68! Yowzers. Not worth that much. Also the people next to us ordered a chicken bowl but it came out with pork. Not a good mix up if people don’t eat pork! Next time: I’ll try some sushi and no volcano for Alex.

Crazy Fish Sushi – Menu with Prices – 11701 San Jose Blvd #23, Jacksonville

This place was great! It’s a small, clean space with super friendly staff. I ordered a lunch special of 2 rolls with salad, that came to just under $10 total. I got the Boston roll and shrimp tempura roll. I thought both were very tasty and the presentation was lovely. I’ve been looking for a reliable place to get my sushi craving, and I really like this new spot. I wish they offered agedashi tofu and beef negimaki (something difficult to find in many sushi places in Jax for some reason). But their offerings are on par with other sushi restaurants, and I feel had a more pleasant environment. Some others I’ve been to are just too dark, or just not as tasty. The salad was a nice size, cold, crisp, and presented nicely. They also offer ramen bowls, poke bowls, and a kid’s menu. I may try a ramen bowl in the future, but I think it’s not pork belly (more the pork loin, and I prefer pork belly) so it’s hard to bring myself to order it. But I may try the shrimp tempura ramen bowl. I will definitely be back for my sushi fix and look forward to trying other dishes! Highly recommend a visit here!

SoBol Lancaster – Menu with Prices – 210 Rohrerstown Rd, Lancaster

Welcome to Lancaster SoBol! The bowls are refreshing, filling and delicious! The staff was so friendly and helpful. I got the Acai bowl and the Pitaya Bowl. Excellent presentation, great quality and worth every penny spent. I really liked the deconstructed option so I could save one for later. It may not be an everyday treat, but definitely a often one. Iâ??m thrilled theyâ??re open early so I can grab a bowl on my way to work and I absolutely love all the local options for coffee and kombucha. Well done, Sobol!

Berry Divine Acai Bowls – Menu with Prices – 245 E Congress St Suite 159, Tucson

I’m writing this in hope the owner/manager will take steps to fix the issues because my daughter and I both love the acai soft serve bowls! I’ve introduced numerous colleagues to this lovely new business (I work downtown) and have personally bought enough bowls to earn several free bowls. This is the third time my daughter has had to wait for the shop to open or they closed early. It’s 8:14 and no one is there. Last time she said 3 other people were also waiting. Please stick to your posted hours and make sure the times listed on your website match. Please consider offering a smaller bowl or allowing adults to purchase the kids’ bowl. With all the emphasis on healthy eating and portion control, it’s disheartening to only have the option of a ginormous bowl. A coworker won’t buy the bowl because she doesn’t like to eat that much or waste the food. Lastly, I understand that sometimes a particular type of fresh fruit might not be available for one reason or another. Please have the employee mention it when taking the order or put up a little note. As mentioned above, I love the acai bowls and absolutely support this business, and would have happily chosen a different fruit in my bowl had I known that mushy frozen blueberries were what was in stock. It only happened once and every other time they’ve been fresh and fantastic. I didn’t say anything because I thought it would be okay and was in a rush, but would have been totally fine with picking a different topping if I’d known ahead of time. I’m still giving 5 stars to support the business and hope they resolve these minor issues!

Pokelicious – Menu with Prices – 7414 W 119th St, Overland Park

Best poke restaurant in town! So many options to choose from- fish, sauces, and toppings. I made my own bowl with the sushi rice and the different salmon (smoked, spicy, etc) options. It’s obvious they use extremely fresh fish and toppings that are flavorful! They make all the sauces by hand and they have korean bbq and tofu bowls as well for those who dont like poke. They also serve local kombucha and even free fruit/veggie infused water. I always worry about portion sizes with poke places, however pokelicious gave me plenty of food and i could barely finished my bowl. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cute and lively. Everything was very clean and the lighting was beautiful. It isn’t too big so it may be difficult to sit with a large group but they utilized the space very well to seat a lot of people. The staff was pleasant as well and they all seemed to love their jobs and the chef is super passionate about what he does and the food he serves. I highly recommend this place for those who want a good poke bowl for a great price and fast service!

Sushi Express – Menu with Prices – 610 University Ave, Madison

As always, Sushi Express is exactly what it claims to be-affordable sushi that is still delicious! You really can’t beat Sushi Express’ prices at $8.75 for two rolls. Although I’ve tried almost every roll there is to offer under this combo, I’d have to say my favorites are the spicy California, shrimp tempura, sweet potato tempura, and the Alaska roll. Their rolls are consistently good and fresh at a truly unbeatable price (and only $1 with no minimum for delivery!) I wouldn’t go as far to say that their sushi is gourmet or as good as, say, Red, but this place manages to offer bargain sushi that is still solid and won’t give you food poisoning. I’d also recommend the roll-combos as opposed to the specialty rolls, which are slightly less good. Sushi can occasionally arrive at room temperature but that hasn’t been a deal breaker. I’ve never been let down by Sushi Express in all 4 years of being a loyal customer. Would recommend their crab Rangoon as well-seriously the best I’ve ever had!

Poke Factory Menu with Prices 5950 North Point Pkwy, Alpharetta

We stopped by for lunch. Although I had had poke before at two other newly-opened chains, my friend had not. Like most poke restaurants, bowls come in three different sizes and you can order a bowl based on type or customize your own bowl. We asked how big the medium bowl was. The young lady behind the counter showed us the medium bowl and explained that the medium bowl was more expensive, not just because of the size of the bowl, but because you got two scoops of protein. If you opted for the large bowl, then you would get three scoops of protein. This was good information to know. While the poke bowls were good and we knew that we had eaten a good amount of food, it didnâ??t give us the same fulfilled (satiated?) feeling that a greasy hamburger and fries would. But thatâ??s not the restaurantâ??s fault. This is fresh, quality food.In addition to the poke bowls, this restaurant also has sushi and ramen. We did not try either; we thought that we should stick with the concept of the restaurant.

The Poké Company – Menu with Prices – 300 W Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy Suite 210, Des Moines

Poke bowl shops absolutely took over my former socal hometown like some kind of seafood epidemic to the point where you could find one on just about every block. I almost got sick of eating them after a while. Now Des Moines has its first dedicated poke bowl joint and I couldn’t be happier. For those curious on what the hell these things are. It’s pretty much a Chipotle for sushi lovers. Think of it as a big bowl with everything a sushi roll has. You pick the rice, the protein/fish, the toppings, and the sauce. All that gets put into a big bowl and you can eat it how you like, mix it all up or enjoy it top to bottom. There’s a few places around like Sushi a Go Go or Waterfront which serves similar bowls but there’s not as much variety or options to choose from. They are both decent options but Poke Co is a different experience. I picked out the salmon and spicy tuna on white rice base, mixed with the company sauce, tempura crunchies, green onion, pickled ginger, and some wasabi mayo. Everything was fresh and they do give you a decent portion of fish. The flavor of the company sauce was hard hitting and flavorful, kind of like a more savory soy sauce. For a wasabi lover like me, the wasabi mayo just married all that together perfectly. The one thing I really wished for was sushi rice rather than plain steamed white rice. I really think the slight sweet and tart flavor from seasoned rice would absolutely make this poke bowl perfect. Anyone who is a sushi lover should absolutely give it a shot. Check out the soda fountain for some really unique flavors too. The bowls are delicious, the service is top notch, and the ambiance is chill. It’s just an all around great place to visit.

Basho Sushi – Menu with Prices – 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston

Of all the sushi burrito/rice bowl restaurants I’ve been to, I’d say that Basho express is just okay. The first time I was here, I ordered a sushi burrito which I thought was pretty small – it was more like a sushi roll than a burrito. I wasn’t expecting it to be thick like an actual burrito, but it was pretty thin compared to other sushi burritos I’ve had. The other times I’ve been here, I ordered a bowl because it was bigger in terms of portion size. I really enjoyed the bulgogi rice bowl and will definitely order it again! I think that’s the only thing I like here on top of the arrange of Asian drinks they sell here. I think I just need to explore the menu more. But so far, the flavors are just meh and nothing stands out to me.

Sushi House – Menu with Prices – 2804 W Michigan Ave #102, Kalamazoo

As one who appreciates the subtleties of Japanese food and sushi, I had to try the newest sushi place in town. I ordered the baby octopus appetizer. This is one of my favs and typically it’s hard to screw up. It was flavorful. Maybe a bit small on the portion for $5.50 but I really can’t say anything bad about it. For dinner I ordered the Chirashi. I usually order this dish which is a bowl of sushi rice and mixed sashimi pieces when I’m at a new restaurant as it gives me a true idea of the restaurants quality. Well, it told a story. One with an unhappy ending unfortunately. Chirashi. Well, it was really basic which fits with the restaurant as there is zero ambiance/decor and in fact one corner table had fold up lawn chairs! Additionally, everything comes out in plastic disposable plates or bowls. I’m not a fan of that. A previous response to a review by the proprietor stated they do this to keep costs down. I thought costs were average for the area. Anyways the bowl was basic and the fish was bland. The tuna was tasteless and the salmon and yellowtail were very tough and chewy and obviously inferior parts of the filets. The octopus and shrimp as well as the tamago (egg) were good. There were no frills, vegetables or garnish with the plate nor any roe which is a typical inclusion. I actually left a piece of salmon in the bowl as it tasted very fishy and I’m certain it was farm raised not wild caught. I was quite disappointed. My son ordered the California roll and the spicy tuna roll. Both rolls looked like they were made well and were reasonably priced. However, the tuna roll is $4, the spicy tuna roll (which includes a tiny squirt of spicy mayo) is $5. So, a 25% markup for a squirt of mayo??? Uh…… Anyways, the California was good. No complaints. Overall, I can’t recommend this place nor will I be returning. Maybe the more complex rolls will be more satisfying to some but all the “stuff” in them covers any imperfections in my opinion. For $14 a roll go to Maru and have a sushi “experience”. It costs about the same. Plus they have a liquor license. Unfortunately, this place is not what I want when I crave sushi. I hate writing bad reviews but I have to be honest and can’t recommend this to anyone. On a parting note the staff were very friendly.

Tasu Express Asian Grill and Poke – Menu with Prices – 3307 Watkins Rd, Durham

Finally a poke place in this part of Durham Tasu express is a new restaurant from the Shiki sushi owners that offers a wide variety of food from poke bowls to hibachi express style dishes. I love poke, but most of the poke places in Durham are located in or near downtown and not close to my daily travel route. One day while driving home and deciding what to do for dinner I wandered in here seeing it was now open and was extremely happy to see they served poke bowls since I could eat poke most days out of the week. Tasu is a walk in style restaurant where you order at the counter and either pick up your food right there or it’s brought to your table. I ordered the large poke bowl option. There’s the traditional range of poke proteins from salmon, spicy tuna, crab, shrimp, scallops and other proteins. After choosing your bowl size and proteins you pick your toppings and sauces. If you love poke they have the traditional style poke spread for toppings and sauces. They have eel sauce, which I love and was happy to see that they served it here. The large poke bowl is a good sized portion and their prices fit alongside the other poke places in the area. They have an interesting selection of fountain drinks and classic ones too. The service was very friendly and quick and the place was spotless. It’s wonderful to see the Shiniki sushi owners branching out into other places in Durham. I remember when Shiki was a small little sushi place and now it’s massive and takes up half of the Homestead Plaza since they expanded. They know how to run a sushi place. The only thing that might disappoint some people here is that it’s only poke/sushi bowls served here and not any actual sushi rolls, which some might come to expect. I’m eager to try this place again and try other poke combinations or even their hibachi offerings.
