What a cool place! A 100% vegan restaurant that also has a social mission of providing food to those who need it? Sign me up! Here’s how it works: all tips (and donations) go towards a “Pay it Forward” fund that enables them to enable folks in the community exchange an hour of work in the kitchen for food. It’s great to see restaurants that care about the well-being of non-human animals care about the well-being of the people in the community, too. On Wednesdays through Fridays, they’re open from 11 AM to 7 PM. I believe the menu changes fairly regularly, so if you’re an El Paso local you can visit lots of times and not get tired of the food! They’re located in a church basement, and you order at the counter. When I visited, I tried two different tacos and a “vegan ceviche” torta made from heart of palm, as well as a bowl of beans. This cost around $12 total (tacos are fairly small and are around $2.50 – $3; the bowl of beans was a lot bigger and was around $3.50) and was the perfect amount of food for a hungry person with a healthy appetite to eat while being able to finish everything and not feeling overstuffed. Please go out and support community restaurants like One Grub!

Sonora Cocina Mexicana Menu with Prices 89 Patton Ave, Asheville

Most places in Asheville we found on yelp surprisingly close at 10pm so we were pleased to find this place is open until about 1am. It’s in the heart of downtown so we parked a few blocks away and walked. It wasn’t packed so we didn’t have to cram, although the service was great anyway so even if they were busy we would’ve gotten superb service. The waiter was extremely personable and took great care of our table even though we sat in the corner of the restaurant. We got pork belly tacos, elote off the cob, and the torta special (pork belly). The water is served in the glass jar just a little chilled but left on the table so we could refill for ourselves. The elote off the cob used fresh corn and not canned. You can tell by how the kernels stuck together as if cut off the cob. My pork tacos were delicious. I thought the torta had too many flavors going on but my boyfriend who ordered it loved it. The tacos had two layers of corn tortillas and was just a little crisped at the edges which I loved. Two tacos never seems like enough to fill me up but it did! I couldn’t finish the elote.

Sabrina?s West Street Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 138 West St, Reno

I’ve been here twice so far and had a great experience! The food was phenomenal and the staff was very friendly. What a cute and unique restaurant! The first trip, I ordered the Luau Kalua Pork sandwich with the Cuban black bean soup, which was really amazing! I also had a great tropical tea which was so tasty, despite it being totally unsweetened. My friend ordered the Tres Tacos, which were also amazing – what unique tacos! The second trip, we ordered the shrimp ceviche and crispy chips as an appetizer. The ceviche had a very unique taste with a hint of wasabi, which we thought was delicious. I ordered the Hot Thai Noodle Soup and a sangria. The soup was fantastic with a ton of yummy fresh veggies, and the sangria was also very tasty as well. My fiance ordered the Mexican torta, which he absolutely loved, that sauce used on the torta was incredible, we asked for a little extra sauce to take home with our leftovers. Love the food, drinks, staff, and atmosphere. The portion sizes were very reasonable for the price. Will definitely be returning! P.S., this place is cash only as they are a small business (Sabrina herself is the head chef there), however there is an ATM in the restaurant.

Ensenada’s Surf N Turf Grill – Menu with Prices – 2931 Nutwood Ave, Fullerton

We recently moved from Bellflower, and we used to always go to Taco Nazo, which is well known for their fish tacos. Now that live in Anaheim, we were looking for a fish taco place that would be comparable to our old spot. Baja California definitely is on par with them! We ordered a grilled fish taco combo, shrimp ceviche tostada, and three more fish tacos on the side. It came out to a little over $20 for everything. Let me tell you, their shrimp ceviche was AMAZING. I work next to a market that has a specialty ceviche bar, but Baja California’s ceviche was way better, and cheaper too. It comes with two tostadas and a good amount of ceviche, topped with avocado. I’d come back just for that! They have their ceviche making station right next to the cashier so you can see them make it. It seemed like every single person ordered ceviche, lol. The grilled fish tacos were delicious as well. The fish was a good size, not too small. I always end up taking off one tortilla since it comes with two just because I feel it’s too much, but that’s just personal preference. The rice and beans were alright, nothing too special. I really like how they have a station where you can get your own lime and chiles. The only downside is we’re used to them being served freshly grilled and warm, and these were cold, but they still tasted good. Perfect accompaniment to the tacos. Their food is reasonably priced ($8-$9 for a 2 taco combo). They had a lot of seating and the tv was showing the football game, which was a plus. We will definitely be back, gotta try the fried fish tacos next time!

Mi Bella Ensenada – Menu with Prices – 2612 NE 28th St, Fort Worth

I went here two days in a row. The first day, I had the tacos (al pastor and steak) and they were excellent. They were cheap too, $1.50-2 per taco. I actually would have left a 5 star review if that was the only time I went. The second day, I had the torta and didn’t care for it, I’ve had much better elsewhere. It was just more mushy than I expected. It’s a small restaurant, they had room for me both days for lunch, but it fills up fast. I like that they kind of combine fast food with a sit-down restaurant. You sit and have a server bring you food and drinks, but then also you pay at the register (which is faster) and they have a drive through. So they kind of break norms when it comes to how restaurants are set up. Definitely try this place out.

Nuno?s Tacos & Vegmex Grill – Menu with Prices – 8024 Spring Valley Rd Suite 8024, Dallas

I visited Nuno’s for lunch and enjoyed 3 corn tacos- 2 pastor and 1 fajita, as well as rice, beans, and a tamarindo drink. Likes: good variety on the menu: tacos, nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas, etc., food is fresh, food was served hot, fast service Dislikes: music was too loud, customer service was subpar (I was expecting friendlier service based off their social media engagements), single-use cups and bowls for side items (I was told they’re biodegradable, however, most of the time these products are not disposed of properly and never reach the temperature required to trigger the breakdown thus causing the same problems as plastic), drink prices not on the menu, the pastor and fajita meats tasted the same The food was good- the beans were piping hot and flavorful, the rice was cooked well, the tacos were full of goodies that were flavorful and there were a variety of hot sauces available (Tapatio, Sriracha, Tabasco, and others). Recommendations for improvement: friendlier service, recognize when/where to cut out the single use cups (for example- my order was not to go yet I received the rice and beans in separate containers with lids when it could’ve been placed on the same tray as the tacos- this would also save them some $$) In summation, the food was good and it’s nice to have a little vegan place in this area. I likely won’t go back solo but wouldn’t hesitate to go with friends for a lunch out. Like all places, there are areas for improvement but all things considered, they’re doing great.

Hummus Republic – Menu with Prices – 313 N San Fernando Blvd, Burbank

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Burbank on San Fernando, right in the heart of where all the shops and restaurants are, and close to the AMC theater. I found parking a couple blocks away, there’s street parking and free parking lots off of San Fernando. I was greeted by a friendly staff member who happily walked me through how it worked there and every step of the process, since it was my first time. It’s Chipotle-style for Greek food. I got a bowl with a base of 1/2 spring mix and 1/2 warm chickpeas. I got lemon chicken as my protein; they have falafel, steak, and other options (including a vegan option). You then choose three dips/spreads and I got spicy hummus, olive hummus, and eggplant hummus. Toppings – there are a ton of options and I pretty much got all of the free ones, everything from kale salad mixture to beets to cabbage to jalapenos; my bowl was stacking up higher and higher! The final step is choosing how you want it dressed – I got traditional tahini. Once my bowl was finally complete, I was STOKED to try it, but also scared because it was towering so high so I wasn’t sure how to mix everything without ingredients falling off. Everything was delicious and it’s a huge portion. I could only eat 1/2 and saved the rest for later. I do have to say, after I had my lunch here, my stomach was pretty upset. I think it was just protein overload from so much hummus and the base of 1/2 chickpeas too. Something to note, just because it says you can choose 3 dips/hummuses, doesn’t mean you need to get all 3! I definitely will come back here, I might just change up my bowl so there aren’t as many beans/hummus. Super delicious though!

Plenty Poke & Crudo Bar – Menu with Prices – 825 A Washington Ave, Miami Beach

5 stars for an amazing little hole in the wall with delicious food and fresh ingredients. I had it saved to my bookmarks and was looking for an opportunity to swing by, today was the day. I have gotten into the poké or rice bowls trend as of recently and I’m loving it. What I have noticed along the way is that no matter how creative your bowl might be if the ingredients are not fresh than it’s an epic fail. This place evidently knows that fresh ingredients are key to a good dish. Now I went with two items in mind, Tomka Soup and Tropical Ceviche and to my surprise, the ceviche bowl comes with a small Tomka soup cup. They do have the large Tomka Soup bowl that you can add shrimp or whitefish to and believe me, it’s so good you’d want to have just a big bowl of it, alone. This little cup of heavenly soup is too delicious. The broth has really good depth to it and flavors have been developed with time so that the final result is incredible, and I just had the small cup that comes with meal. Moving on to the Tropical Ceviche, well it’s really good, refreshing and nice on the tummy. Local whitefish, mango, sweet peppers, red onion, hearts of palm, cilantro, corn, lime juice, sea salt, green plantain flakes and cilantro aioli sauce sitting on a bed of brown rice, my choice. You can replace the brown rice with regular rice, quinoa, crystal noodles or organic baby kale. The fish, as I mentioned before, was definitely fresh as well as the rest of the ingredients and I added cucumbers and radish. The cilantro aioli sauce is one hell of a delicious sauce and it all works together in a good balance when you mix it all. The plantain flakes add a crunch to it for texture and that’s a big deal for me. Service is excellent and the owner is really helpful and friendly. We actually talked about food and restaurants while I was writing this review. So if you’re by the beach and get hungry and want something refreshing and delicious, this is the spot.

Pinch a Taco 2 – Menu with Prices – 5005 S MacDill Ave, Tampa

I was on this side of the Bay and came here on a whim for lunch. I grew up in Southern California, where burritos and tacos are abundant. It’s simple, flavorful, quick, and delicious and cheap. After living in Florida for 6 years I’ve pretty much given up on Mexican food… until now! The menu is simple. A few meats to choose from and you pick your delivery method (taco, burrito, torta etc. My first time here I had 5 tacos, a variety of carne asada, pastor, pollo asado, and shrimp. All 5 were magnificent. The meat was fresh and flavorful, served on a corn tortilla (flour is available too), with onions and cilantro. I got them to go and got both red and green salsa. After one bite I knew I finally found a taco shop. A few weeks later I had a carne asada burrito. It was. A similar experience as far as nostalgia. Beans, meat, guacamole, pico de gallo, and a little lettuce. I think I’d prefer tacos next time, but the burrito was amazing none the less. Both times I washed my meal down with a large horchata. It’s a sweet cold cinnamon rice drink. Trust me, you can’t go wrong. I’ll definitely be back soon, and looking forward to trying their ceviche.

Tres Campanas New Mexican – Menu with Prices – 3136 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe

I usually shy away from Mexican restaurants. Even in this part of the country (the SW), they tend to serve the same ol’ thing — tacos, enchiladas, burritos — you know the drill. We stumbled upon this place as it was near the hotel and the building at least had an interesting facade. But, definitely not the same ol’ refried beans. For example, I had tacos with pig brains (tacos de cabeza) and my dad had tacos with toungue (lengua). The cabeza was not bad — a little on the bland side, but the lengua was very good. Beans on the side were very good (beans seem to be the touchstone of quality for me lately) — almost like a soup, and tasty. Overall, a very unique menu backed up by good quality food. Give it a try.

XJ’S Casa Reynoso – Menu with Prices – 1661 S Val Vista Dr Suite 109, Gilbert

Visited this place for the first time yesterday. Upon arrival they’ve done a nice job with the decor and it has an inviting feeling to it. We were greeted by girl who was young….like 10ish young. She was very friendly and I loved to see the family (I think) putting the youth to work! Free chips and salsa showed up right away. A key to any Mexican food restaurant in my opinion. That’s when I had my first conundrum. The salsa had an ingredient I couldn’t put my finger on. Let’s just say it was an ingredient I wasn’t used to tasting in a salsa. So I called the server over and asked if she has ever heard that before…she answered with a resounding YES…so once confirmed I asked her to ask the cooks if it was one of my guesses: Star Anise, Clove, or Chinese 5 spice. She agreed to go ask…and came back with “they won’t tell me, I’ve tried to ask them before”. Now let me just say this…I am all for “protecting” family secrets and recipes that have been passed down through the ages…however in this day and age, with allergies the way they are, sharing one ingredient that someone calls out won’t ruin your family legacy. I’m not allergic to anything so I just smiled and was cordial and continued eating… When it came time to order my wife got the 2 tacos with double rice (versus rice and beans) and I got the “gollo bowl” which was green chili pork over pinto beans…hers was over $10 a believe so I expected to see massive tacos…mine was $8 so I knew this should be a “barely” full type of portion. Interestingly, it was the exact opposite. The taco plate was underwhelming at best and the gollo bowl was a meal. The tacos are hard shell fried with shredded beef inside. For just having been friend I would have expected some succulent type meat after she bit in…it was not. Dry, but in her words had decent flavor. Very flat look and not much meat. Next the rice. Have to mail the rice if the tacos are underwhelming. Didn’t happen. Rice was crunchy…as if it were older rice or undercooked. Lacked the overall “smack” I look for in a good, moist, Mexican rice (I tried hers). Gollo Bowl was very good. Loved the beans, good chunks of the green chili pork, a lot of flavor to the bowl and I was full after eating it. Little cheese topped it off…very nice bowl for $8. That leads to the bill and perhaps my largest pet peeve that exists today in restaurants, gas stations, etc…the “cash” price and the “credit” price. We were charged an extra $1.32 for using a credit card. Being around the restaurant becomes for 25 years my advice (not that they are asking or care) is to just raise your prices 2.5% and don’t nickel and dime me for extra line items. Bake it in. At $5 for an import beer and over $10 for a 2 taco plate you already have room in your prices for the credit card charges. People carry less and less cash, service charging the majority of your customers is out. Full service, easy to business with, great value…is IN! 3 stars because the staff was VERY friendly and the gollo bowl was good!

Chiva Torta – Menu with Prices – 454 Mortimer St, Santa Ana

I had a Torta ahogada with pork meat, they asked if I wanted it spicy and I said yes. My first time there so I didn’t know what I was in for.. my Torta was good and so spicy.. lol next time I’m going to try it not spicy. And yes I will be back!!! My kids had a quesadilla of carnitas, tacos de buche and my husband had the tacos dorados de buche.. They all enjoyed their food, but the tacos dorados de buche and the torras were a hit with me. I do recommend you bring your lawn chairs, if u find parking close enough, to enjoy your food by your car.. I would definitely come back again to try the rest of their items on their menu. Y arriba Las Chivas!!

Taqueria Sheko’s Brownsville – Menu with Prices – 985 W Ruben M Torres Sr Blvd, Brownsville

We heard great things about this taqueria. I ordered 4 tacos tradicionales, one torta estilo Matamoros, and 2 enchiladas potosinas. The tacos were .45 cents today and very small (traditional size they are in Mexico). An average eater would need to eat between 6-8 tacos. The enchiladas were the same small tortilla stuffed with queso and folded over topped with sauce. The torta was quite crispy stuffed with bistek cheese and avocado. The salsas on the table were amazing. My favorite is the tomato salsa. My recommendation is to order a little of everything that piques your interest since the price point is quite low. See menu attached. Enjoy!
