First, the staff were very nice and accommodating. They were quick to offer recommendations for both food and drinks. So, this is me being a little critical. – The bar stools make you persistently slide forward Appetizer: Pork Belly – Very tasty due to it being nicely charred and having the additional sauces dribbled around it. Definitely not a sharing sized portion though. Because of that I ordered the fried pickled okra as well. So think pickled okra with batter, deep fried with a small container of sauce. The concept was really interesting and I liked how they cooked the whole okra vs cutting it up into smaller pieces. With about 9 okra, it is certainly something you can share. However, I went through the small container of sauce fairly quickly. When I asked for more, I noticed that the server (per policy) had to ring it up (.50) in order to have it brought out. This seems a bit petty to me especially since the argument could be made that they didn’t provide enough sauce to begin with. Main Dish: Pork Chop – I’m not the biggest fan of pork chops anyway, but while this one looked beautiful, I found the taste a bit bland. The fat was not charred (which would have provided amazing flavor) and the sauce was just one step away from ketchup. I was missing the bang required when eating a less flavorful food like a pork chop. So, it was a nice portion, but the flavor was lacking. Side: Kim-chi Slaw – So as an avid eater of Kim-chi, I was excited to see this on the menu. This was my first time eating a slaw like this and I was not disappointed. It had all the flavor needed to zest up a meal. I could eat this all day. By the way, I did express my concerns about the sauce being charged and the server offered to remove it from the bill. I declined as I just wanted to point out that it seemed to be misguided. Dinner + 2 appetizers + 3 cocktails = $75

Love Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 1401 John Barrow Rd, Little Rock

I had my mouth fixed on some fish and fried okra today. So I said let me go to Loves. Been a good little minute since I’ve been. Last time I went. It was awesome. This time, the grease for the okra should have been changed or fried to hard. I don’t know but that was horrible. So I said well let me check out the fish. Let’s keep in mind I got the special that should have come with fries , slaw and white bread. Don’t care about the bread can’t eat it. But I couldn’t get past the smell when I open it the box. And no slaw either. Yeah 2nd and last time. I wasted my whole lunch and 8$ just to throw all it the trash.

Hot Cluckers – Menu with Prices – 1450 E Sunshine St, Springfield

I’m 75 years old and have been around the world and have eaten the best to the worst food in the world. I was drawn in by the name and the advertising. Today, my sister and I went to try the chicken and catfish that I really love. The service was quick and the folks were friendly but the food, I could only give them maybe one star. I don’t know how you can take perfectly good food and turn it into something that is hardly eatable. They use a brown sugar coating on the catfish, something that I have never heard of. One could have just salt, maybe some pepper and cornmeal and had a good taste. The chicken is something on the same order. I had the cole slaw, which is a rip because you only get a very small container, it was okay but just okay. The fried okra was okay as any okra that comes out of a frozen box of okra. The fried dill pickles were okay if you like fried dill pickles. I was in hopes that this would get my repeat business but I will not go there again. I repeat that the folks were very nice and friendly and food was served quickly. But, I just think they have the wrong idea of coating to make this a business that will last. I was very disappointed to say the least. For 2 people, it was about $20 bucks without a drink. I’m sorry but I’ll only give them a few months to stay in business. Ray Cunningham, Springfield. If you want great catfish, at a reasonably price, go to old truck stop that was called 7 Gables.

La’Kens World Catering & Delights-Soul Food – Menu with Prices – 625 W Capitol Ave, Little Rock

I was a bit torn between 3 – 4 stars. If I could I’d give them a 3.5/5 stars. This is a new place in Cabot that specializes in Catering but also has dine-in service. The dining area is very small but has a very Mom & Pop feel to it. Our waiter was a very polite young man who was great and seemed genuinely devoted to making sure our experience was flawless. He gets 5 Stars without a doubt!! On to the Food: So I ordered the 2 Meat & 2 Sides (Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, Baked Mac N’ Cheese, and Baked Beans w/ Ground Beef). – The Meatloaf was great however the ketchup was very tart. The Fried Chicken was absolutely perfect. Great flavor and steaming hot. The Baked Beans with ground beef were amazing and my favorite part of my meal. The Baked Mac N’ Cheese was a disappointment. Basically Noodles with cheese baked on. It lacked flavor and was very bland. For $15 I felt my meal was a tad overpriced and since I didn’t finish the large portion of the Mac N’ Cheese I walked away a bit hungry still. My piece of chicken and meatloaf were both a bit on the smaller side. My wife had the Fried Chicken w/ Fried Okra and Baked Mac N’ Cheese. She shared my opinion on the Mac N’ Cheese, also very bland. The Fried Okra and Chicken were spot on delicious. Her meal was more appropriately priced (around $10). I’m definitely planning on another visit to try some other items on their menu. Weighing the pro’s & con’s I still think this place is a great addition to Cabot. I think they will do well here.

Jazen Tea | Lafayette – Menu with Prices – 4510 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy Suite H, Lafayette

Came here during lunch time and was very nervous.. since we were the only ones there. You can hear the workers gossiping about a dirty spot on the floor that was left from the night before and another about their personal lives.. but don’t expect them to check on you. First off, we ordered Vietnamese coffee.. the milk thing they served us, after we finished eating, was anything but coffee. Seriously, why did the drinks take so long?? We literally left both of the full cups on the table when we left!! Secondly, the food. The menu really threw me off.. the numbers are so random, it was a tad strange. Now on to the food.. we had ordered the following: S17 – Popcorn Chicken bowl – can’t really go wrong with these, they were okay, and was served with sweet chili sauce R22 – Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chop & fried egg with rice – if you look at the pictures, you can see how the “pork chop” didn’t even look like a pork chop.. it looks all chopped up and maybe people ate a piece off of it.. it was also really over cooked and dry, as the rice that we did not even touch.. 52 – Beef Rib & Brisket Pho – the broth was really bland and tasted like it was made from powder, and not from beef bones.. the beef rib.. was so inedible, I literally could not even bite it!! I left it on the side, hoping the waiter saw.. but he did not care. Honestly, there are so many good Vietnamese food in Lafayette now, you must avoid this one!! Their service sucks and their food is even worst!!

Shorties Drive-thru BBQ Menu with Prices 6 Newfound Rd, Asheville

I’m going to give this a generous 3 rating right now as they literally just opened the doors two days ago. The concept, drive thru only (with a walk up window for will call) seems to work, but if there is a long line there will be a bit of a wait to get your food. The location is easy to access, but gain if there is a long line you will be out in Newfound Rd! The pulled pork sandwiches were good, but not exceptional. Meat was a little cool to the touch and a little dry. They use standard fresh hamburger buns. The menu says all sandwiches include peppers, onions and mustard. Ours did not, but did have a small container of creamy slaw and a small container of sauce. The slaw is good, the sauce is OK, but again, not exceptional to other BBQ’s in greater Asheville area. The potato salad and french fries were very good. You get a good portion of fries, but a rather small portion of potato salad with sandwiches. Our take out bag did not include napkins or anything to eat the potato salad with? The staff was friendly and they received a very high sanitation rating from the county. We’ll try it again to see if there any improvements.

Pho Hoa An (PHA) Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 7451 Edinger Ave #104, Huntington Beach

My experience here was not as positive as was the case at the numerous other Vietnamese restaurants I have dined at in the past. I am basing my criticism on the following points: 1) The entrée I ordered was Grilled Pork with Steamed Rice. I was not provided with fish sauce upon delivery of the dish to my table, and I had to ask the server for a bowl of it. I found this to be utterly astounding, as I have experienced this at no other Vietnamese restaurant when ordering a dish of this type. 2) I should also note that the bowl of fish sauce I was provided with was quite stingy in portion – without a doubt, the smallest portion size I have ever received at any Vietnamese restaurant to accompany a pork and rice dish. It was so small I had to ask for a 2nd bowl after I exhausted the 1st bowl. Was war declared this morning, and mandatory rationing of fish sauce as a strategic material declared along with it??? 3) Also of interesting note is iceberg lettuce accompanied the pork and rice (I can’t name any other Vietnamese restaurant that does this). I would not consider this an inherently bad thing … had the restaurant thoughtfully provided dressing to go along with it … which they did not. I had to use the bottle of Hoisin sauce on the table to give it some flavor. 4) I get that this is Huntington Beach, and things may be more expensive here (than, say … Rosemead or San Gabriel). But even taking that into account … given the portion size and the aforementioned points, I honestly felt very disappointed and a little cheated, knowing that I paid $10.95+tax for this meal. Is it unfair to judge this restaurant like this based solely on a single visit and consumption of a single dish? Perhaps. However, if a Vietnamese restaurant cannot serve a satisfactory pork and rice plate, it is quite difficult for me to have any confidence in the possibility that their other dishes will be any more appetizing.

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 905 E Liberty St, Louisville

I keep forgetting to take pictures so close your eyes while you read this and use your imagination. I got the fish taco (fried), Maui Wowie (el pastor), and the carnitas tacos, plus an original elote. The tacos were good street tacos on small corn tortillas, they only have corn taco tortillas. Each taco had a slaw mixture that complimented the protein. The fish was a nice battered fillet that fit well in the tortilla. The el pastor taco could have used more meat and pineapple, the pork seemed a little under seasoned. I did really like the condiment bar. The serrano and habanero salsas had great flavor. You can actually taste the name sake pepper in each without them burning out your pallet. The pickled onions were superb, thin slices of habanero provided a nice secondary flavor with a kick. The best for last is the elote. Excellent ear of corn with large juicy kernels, coated in Mexican table cream, chili powder, cheese, and with a twist a red “enchilada” sauce. All on an easy to consume stick, it was my favorite. I love knowing I can grab some quick street tacos during my lunch break.

Hutchins BBQ – Menu with Prices – 9225 Preston Rd, Frisco

Hutchins…. I’m pretty in different about this BBQ joint. I was in the Plano, TX area and said to myself let me get some BBQ. I looked up BBQ restaurants on Yelp and Hutchins popped up as one of the better BBQ restaurants in the area. Well I can say I tried it, wasn’t impressed, and more than likely will not come back when I’m in the area. The service was great. The staff answered all the questions I had and didn’t make me feel rushed. If I was giving stars off of service alone! I would give it five stars. However, the real reason you are reading this review is for the food not the service. So lets discuss what you truly care about. For the meat I ordered 1/2 lb chicken, 1/4 lb sliced turkey. The chicken was dry with a rub that somehow did not have a bunch of flavor. I literally dipped it in their house BBQ sauce to give it some flavor. The sliced turkey was dry but did have a bit more of the smokey flavor that I would have liked on the chicken. Overall I walked out smelling more like BBQ smoke than actually tasting the smoky flavor of BBQ! For the sides I had the mac and cheese, cole slaw, fries, fried okra, and two slices of white bread. The mac and cheese were noodles with a cheese sauce and bacon mixed in. Not worth the 2.50 but a filler if you want to get full fast. Cole slaw was your normal mixture that could have come from the corner market. The fried okra was frozen okra that they basically threw in some grease and fried up real quick. You could have gotten more flavor just by adding some salt when the okra came out of the fryer. French fries I should have known to skip since they were sitting in a pan under the heat lamp. But I am a sucker for potatoes. Wrong, keep the fries and go for the baked potato if you want to have a spud from Hutchins. Believe me the baked potato looked much better than the fries tasted. The white bread was like all other white breads in BBQ restaurants. For dessert they had peach cobbler and banana pudding. I should have had dessert for dinner. The peach cobbler had a decent crust and the banana pudding had a good banana cookie ratio. I am more prone to say go for the dessert than for their food. You at least get as much as you want of that when you dine in. I am disappointed but will not give up on Texas BBQ just yet. I have tried BBQ from Memphis, KC, and Texas. So far Texas has been the one to let me down. However, I will continue to look for a place when I come back to make me a believer of all the hype for Texas BBQ. If you are a Texan and have suggestions please let me know. I would love to try it out!

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 1515 S Vine Ave, Tyler

I stopped here for lunch. I passed by this place a few times and was curious. I love good fried chicken and cajun food. So, I got the fried chicken combo #1 and a small seafood gumbo, 16oz. The fried chicken was a pleasant surprise, crunchy crust, tender and juicy inside. It was hot and tasted fresh out of the fryer. It was also a little spicy. Not too hot but definitely spicier than most! I wanted a side of dirty rice but it was cooking and not ready yet. So I got a side of cole slaw. It was your basic cole slaw, pretty good. I also got a small gumbo. The gumbo had a dark roux base, lots of veggies, the trinity, onion, bell pepper, and celery, also with tomato and okra. It had a good amount of shrimp, chicken, and sausage. It had rice in the bottom of the container. The gumbo was a hit as well. It had a great flavor and was also a little spicy. Again not too hot that you couldn’t enjoy the flavor, but definitely got the sinuses cleared out! The atmosphere was very basic, red covered both benches, black table tops, orange painted walls. Fairly clean establishment, pretty friendly folks. Not a lot of interaction with the staff except taking your order and bringing your food. If you like fried chicken and are looking for something other than KFC, Church’s, or Popeye’s, give this place a try. You may find a new favorite.

Maryland Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 939 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach

We heard a rumor in Greensboro NC that Maryland fried chicken was the best. We ordered two dinners with fried okra and potato salad. I have to say that I’ve never had better fried chicken. The okra was just great but I took na star away for the horrid MUSTARD MASHED potato salad. What are you folks thinking? We had a lot left over because as potato salad goes it is simply awful, but when we got home I decided to make some deviled eggs. As an afterthought, having that full container of mustard mashed potatoes in the fridge, I decided to slip that into a few of the egg halves. Everyone raved over them, not knowing they were eating potatoes at all. What a hoot! Anyhow, get the chicken but unless you’re having deviled eggs later on, I suggest you leave the potato salad alone. Bonaparte Y’all.

The Burrow at Augusta – Menu with Prices – 2017 Augusta St, Greenville

I made a reservation in advance for 5 @ 7:00pm on Monday night( was thankful they were open on Monday) we were sat right away at a big comfy plush turquoise booth up front. Everyone was looking forward to trying out this new gem, on Augusta. The menu looked interesting. We ordered drinks, glasses of red wine, one Italian, one Malbec, a red ale, and cocktail. It took at least 15 mins to get our drinks, and our server mistakenly brought a glass of white wine , instead of the Italian red., which took another 10 mins to get exchanged. Appetizers: We ordered them with our drinks, it took at least 40 mins for them to arrive, fried olives, pork belly, and octopus salad. The olives were really yummy, tangy and fun. The pork belly was also very good, it was caramelized, served over creamed corn. However, the charred octopus salad was exceptionally disappointing bland, and chewy. It had no flavor at all. It was very boring, it was not charred and had no seasoning or marinade. Main course: (Again took forever… to come out of kitchen 8:30)We anticipated the appetizers being rather large so we didn’t order big entrees for dinner. I got the house salad which was an interesting combination, mixed greens, sliced green grapes, roasted garlic, prosciutto slice, smear of ricotta cheeses, w/ balsamic dressing. It was ok.. nothing great. My husband had the Hot chicken sandwich and fries, that was the best entree , great presentation, temperature, flavor with the hot mustard sauce and pickles. My sister had the vegetarian curry bowl. It was pathetic. It was a ton of rice, cauliflower, (not broccoli as described by our server) some carrots, zucchini, with a splash (2tbls) of curry sauce on top. The vegetables were not even cooked in the sauce to infuse the flavor. We could have made much better at home in 15 mins. Lastly my cousin had ordered their version of Coconut soup, and a houssalad. The soup was good, small portion, but good. However, our server never put her salad order in. Since our server seemed to avoid our table like the plague, never coming back to check on us for drink orders, or ask how our entrees were we never had the opportunity to ask her about the forgotten salad . At this point we were all so frustrated and disappointed by the poor service, timelines, and the quality of the food we were just ready to leave wishing we had gone elsewhere instead. The only thing our served asked or communicated from the time she took our entree orders to the time she was bringing our check.. ” do you need a box for that” to my husband for his food. It was a huge disappointment. I understand they are still working out the kinks, but the service still could have been far far better. She didn’t act like she cared at all. Need some serious training. Especially as a newly opened establishment.

Jumbo’s Fish & Seafood – Menu with Prices – 555 E Main St, Rochester

So, I found Jumbo’s on Restaurant.com. That’s the site that gives you 50 percent off meals and thank goodness for it. Otherwise, I woulda been pretty disappointed paying full price at this newly established seafood venue. Between the two of us… we ordered steamed snow crab legs, fried shrimp, coleslaw, hush puppies and fried okra. Just for starters this is mainly a takeout spot. There’s 2 tables in the waiting area and it’s really not anything nice. Plus, if you decide to eat there, like we did, the staff will kinda just stare out at you the entire time. Lol It’s kinda odd and uncomfortable, but it’s not deliberate on their part. It’s a tiny spot and they simply lean in the service window, either people watching or waiting for their next customer. We decided to eat there. It was tight… it wasn’t the cleanest, the staff rationed out the napkins (which was odd because seafood gets so messy and sticky) and it was far from our finest dining moment. The fried shrimp was really good. It’s cooked in a light batter that’s not too heavy. So, not heavily breaded like most fried shrimp dinners and not the fish and chip battere either. You definitely get more of the shrimp with their fry method. The crab legs were a BIG expensive No-No! Omg.. no salt, no Old Bay, just plain-old steamed and bland. If you’re into that then go for it. I was mad. I wanted flavor and my cholesterol surely went up that day because I kept dipping and double and triple dipping in the butter to try to get some flavorful on them! The slaw they said was homemade, but it was far too mayo-made for us. The hushpuppies and fried okra were standard. They’re new in town, but they definitely have seafood prices. It’s just a whole in the wall, but you’re safe with the fried shrimp dinner.
