NewFeed Cafe is literally around the corner from where I live and they have a wide variety of foods, vegan/vegetarian option are available and everything is fresh and tasty. Today I had Belgium waffles and fruit and my sever and cook Danielle was pleasant from the moment I walked it and she took her time to prepare my meal and made it well!!! I am all in to support local small businesses. I wish them blessings in Abundance in all their endeavors!

Carrs Pharmacy Menu with Prices 7731 E Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage

Carr’s Muldoon and Carr’s Eastgate have always been two of my favorite Carr’s stores. (Update: Carr’s Eastgate has taken an extreme dive due to poor management and sourpuss employees). Must be the East Anchorage vibe that has been a well kept secret since forever. First we had Carr’s- a local, family owned business that rocked it as Freddy’s number one competitor for one stop shopping. Since then, Safeway, and now Albertsons (what gives with that?) took over, prices went up, and customer satisfaction went down. Despite all of that, they do have staying power, the best locations in town, better hours, and have consistently been better with the quality of their produce, deli items and meats ( even though the customer has to dig deeper in the wallet.) Go online with their Just For U program- it’s worth it. Shop the sales and enjoy the overall better customer service from the employees. Kroger’s (Fred’s) changes of late have not been for the better. We are very fortunate to have a choice of several grocery stores in this town. Sure we could use a Whole Foods store (watch out Natural Pantry!) but for now, we can count our blessings to enjoy stores that- for the most part- offer a wide variety of happy choices.

Lassen’s Health Foods – Menu with Prices – 5154 Hollister Ave, Santa Barbara

I want to support local businesses, but Lassen’s makes it hard: I will no longer buy anything from their bulk bins (not sure if the bins aren’t clean or they just order crap), no fruits and vegetables (they always say this particular fruit is delicious, then it is grainy, mushy, moldy and just not good). Latest is the 3-gallon plastic water bottles @$20+ each: they both shattered and broke after a couple of months, Lassen’s reply to my telling them: you should have gotten glass. Well thanks a lot girlfriend, and I don’t see you selling glass here either. Whole Foods is much Cheaper, and they replace anything easily, don’t tell you that you should have purchased something else. I want to be able to rely on the merchandise in a store, but you can’t at Lassen’s. If you don’t know the brand don’t trust anything they say at this store. And now that I have learned their position on Prop 8, forget it..

Chef Ami – Fresh Ingredients & Recipes Delivered – Menu with Prices – 4101 NW 6th St Ste. B-1, Gainesville

I absolutely love Chef Ami; not just the food but also the customer service, website, and overall user experience. Every time I have provided a comment or suggestion, or if I have had a question, they have been quick to reply and help me out. The food is phenomenal, and I have learned a lot from cooking the various recipes, including how to prepare foods that I had never tried before. I even found ways to enjoy things I thought I didn’t like (arugula) and I am very appreciative of that. I really enjoy the variety, and the fact that I don’t have to worry about the whole “what’s for dinner” question. The portions are also really good, which is great for someone who is watching what they are eating. The food is always very fresh, too, and I am happy to know how much of their packaging is recycled. Overall, this is an amazing local company that I am proud to support.

Green Garden Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3517 W Arthington St, Chicago

Green Garden Cafe is one of my favorite spots in the North Lawndale Community. They are always crowded because of their tasty tacos, yummy yogurt parfaits, extra cheesy nachos with veggies, and real fruit smoothies, as well as fresh fruit! Monday – Friday, check’em out soon…! Thank you for great service Felice! Blessings, Tanesha

Ohlala French Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 688 Bergen Ave Suite #1, Jersey City

This place is a very welcomed addition to the neighborhood! With new businesses beginning to pop up, it seems as if coffee shops are in abundance. Ohlala definitely has the best coffee of all of them. I just wish they were open to snag one on the morning commute. Yesterday was the first time I had brunch there. The food was extremely fresh. I had the bacon, egg and cheese croissant. Small in size, but the $6 price reflected it. It even came with a salad that had an amazing balsamic dressing. I’d definitely order this again. My husband had the avocado toast and was a bit unimpressed with the creativity they put behind it. He was hoping for more of a standard breakfast version with a fried egg on top. However, it came with goat cheese, cucumbers and balsamic. I thought it was unique and delicious but just wanted for him. That being said, we are both still excited to go back and try other things! Including lunch/dinner! After seeing one of our favorites restaurants close (oak on pine), we realize we all need to come together to support these new local restaurants and keep our money in the neighborhood! Go support Ohlala.. you won’t regret it!

Savor The Moment Bakery & Dessert Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1117 Coliseum Blvd, Greensboro

Omg! Omg! Ohhh emmm geee!! What are you doing right now?! If it’s not getting into your car and heading over to Savor the Moment Bakery & Dessert Cafe at 1117 Coliseum Blvd then you are giving me the wrong answer! Okay.. okay…I may be being a little dramatic because it’s technically closed right now, but go TOMORROW, they’ll be open and you can thank me later! It’s Valentine’s Day and after following their Instagram account for weeks and admiring all of the great events that Savor the Moment offers to the community, some events are even free, for adults and kids alike (chess club, teen baking, mystery book club, and history round table), I just had to give them a visit. I mean, how many local bakeries do you know of that are enriching their community to be better and do better everyday! I met the owners, they are a beautiful family. The husband and wife duo are great and tremendously friendly, representing for the small local business in the right way. James and his young and ever so cute daughter immediately welcomed us and gave us plenty of ideas of what are his favorite treats to try. I also met his wife who gave us some of the most moist pound cake to try. Not too sweet but completely melts in your mouth. I tried the butter pecan and Jarett tried the plain, both were mouth watering. Lastly, we met another member of the family, their young son, who is also a cutie. In total I believe they have five children, and I think it’s great to see an entire family supporting one another, you can really feel the family bonding in the essence of this place! Okay, finally let’s get to the food! In addition to trying the pound cake we ordered 2 strawberry cheesecake sundaes, one for my mom and one for Jarett and I to share! The sundae contained layers of fruit, whipped cream, and both pound cake and cheesecake. You could also choose up to 2 free toppings! The dessert was perfectly moist, sweet, fruity, and delicious! Truly everything you could ask for and want in a desert. Not too presumptuous with unnecessary frills, simplistic and down right tasty. Please! I can’t stress this enough, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! They are what makes your city YOUR city, what gives your city and it’s locals their character and charm! Support those who support you!

Vivi Bubble Tea Bellevue Menu with Prices 1336 156th Ave NE, Bellevue

I visited ViVi Bubble Tea, excited to check out the different flavors. There’s a lot to choose from within the menu, from classic milk teas to more fruit teas with neon colors. The staff are happy to make recommendations and make adjustments on sugar and ice levels. Plus, there’s popcorn chicken! The space is located by Chipotle at the Crossroads Shopping Center, which is really nice since we desperately need a bubble tea spot at Crossroads. Since this is walking distance from the mall and other major businesses, I can see myself coming here again. I ordered a large Taro Creme Brulee and the employee mentioned that for this month they have a promotion where if you get a large of any drink you can get 50% any of the fruit teas. With that said, I ordered the Signature Fruit Tea. Of the two, I enjoyed the Taro Creme Brulee! I love taro, so it was really nice that there were actual taro pieces throughout the drink…none of that artificial taro flavor. It was also really creamy, so it’s great for a dessert. I couldn’t finish one in one sitting, so ended up saving some for the next day, which still tasted great. The Signature Fruit Tea was unfortunately, not as enjoyable. Although I ordered it with no sugar, it was sweet enough from the fruit, and you did get an abundance of different fruits. But the flavor just seemed A-OK, slightly bland on the tea side. It wasn’t something I’d crave again, so glad I got it at a discounted price. Not the best for fruit teas here – stick with the others. Glad to have ViVi in Crossroads, accessible to those shopping at the mall or surrounding businesses with a parking lot outside the front. If you visit, get a stamp card, and for you taro fans, check out the taro creme brulee!

Young’s Sub Shop – Menu with Prices – 1300 N Walnut St, Wilmington

Favorite local sub shop in Wilmington. Young is always kind and pleasant. Very happy to support this local joint. Food is good and made quick also.

Johnny’s Fish Market Menu with Prices 2526 Peach Orchard Rd, Augusta

My mother and I absolutely love the food. The fried shrimp is to die for. It’s a local business. You watch them clean, prepare, and cook your food right in front of you. The tartar sauce is PERFECT! It’s a bit runny, but oh so good. The touch of sweetness balances everything out. We always get a pound and a half of fried shrimp, it comes up to 18 bucks and some change. Its a bit cheaper if you don’t want them to cook it. We always have them cook it, because we can’t get our batter to stay on our shrimp. You have to try them.

Haile Farmers Market – Menu with Prices – 5213 Southwest 91 Terrace, Gainesville

Definitely check out Ed W.’s 5-Star review. His review is great and pretty much sums it up: A local market that offers something for everyone from local vendors, organic farmers and innovative artists and businesses. It’s a great way to spend your Saturday morning and pick up unique items to eat, cook, enjoy and take home. We picked up some fresh, living, green wheatgrass to take home for only $2 per unit and it’s hard to find in Jax. Located in the quaint “downtown” of Haile Plantation with plenty of street parking for visitors, they have signs to get you there. It closes at 12pm so make sure you try to come as early as possible because the early bird gets the worm. They are open 8:30am to 12pm every Saturday. Some of the highlights for me: Visiting The Tempeh Shop’s booth since I have a freezer full of this stuff. They offer samples of their Ready Tempeh [prepared tempeh] and the guy working the booth gave me good advice on how to prepare it at home. It’s suppose to be really good for you as it is a fermented soybean product locally made and distributed. The variety of certified organic produce available at this market is a dream for those looking for local organic veggies and fruit that aren’t tainted with pesticides and other poisons. The presentation is beautiful, but you will need to get there early because they do run out of the more popular produce in season. I missed out on the organic beets. Bummer. Here are some of the vendors available here: Strega Nona’s Oven Wood Fired Pizzas, Price Creek Farm, The Tempeh Shop, Rosie’s Organic Farm, Fehrenbacher’s Artisan Sausages, Possum Hollow Farm, Archer Market Garden, & The Green Mango…just to name a few. Check ’em out.

Snap Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1325 Frankford Ave, Philadelphia

I absolutely love Snap Kitchen. Purchased the ground bison from there(not sure exactly what the title was) the week before last for lunch and loved the size, taste, and ease of reheating. No doubt these meals are fairly expensive but if you are someone like me who is on the go all of the time and spends tons on fast food anyhow it’s not that bad. I’ve been trying to get back in shape for a while but being in a two person household it’s hard to cook a variety of healthy foods without throwing away leftover ingredients. After purchasing the lunch I went on the website and saw they were offering 40% off the first week of a meal plan. The meal plans are highly customizable whether it be the amount of days, what meals you want per day, etc. I went ahead and ordered the lunch and dinners for Monday-Friday. Every meal was delicious and some were downright phenomenal (naked beef, turkey chili). I could go on and on, but for someone who likes to be active, is always busy, wants to eat healthy but doesn’t necessarily want to cook, this place is a godsend. I was able to make my caloric goals every day last week while still eating a variety of delicious meals. Thank you Snap Kitchen!!!

Donut Delight – Menu with Prices – 225 E Amherst Dr, Tyler

I was craving some donuts here in Tyler, and this spot had the best reviews on yelp. My consensus? Friendly service, good variety of donuts, but on the sweeter/oily side on the donut spectrum. There’s a good amount of parking, especially when you go early in the day. They share parking in a plaza with a bunch of other shops/stores, so don’t worry about getting a spot here…even during peak times. Donut Delight is a tiny shop that seems to have a lot of local support. They sell donuts as well as breakfast tacos (which all have meat), kolaches and beverages. I enjoyed the donut holes, but they were on the soft side and left that oily aftertaste. I think I’ve been spoiled by Round Rock Donuts and my favorite donut shop in Austin. BUT their blueberry and old-fashioned donuts are pretty good. They bag all your donuts up for you, and service is with a sweet smile. Support your local businesses! It seems like Donut Palace is the chain to go to here in Tyler, but I’m all for supporting the stand-alones.
