I came here for lunch with a friend a little before noon. We got a booth table which I loved. I love the modern decor and I know there was a review that complained that it’s too cold in there but I loved it. I mean, it’s Florida!! It’s so hot outside that I am so grateful that a restaurant has ac. There are some restaurants that won’t have ac or maybe it cost too much for them to run it. They have a lot to choose from so it can be a bit overwhelming if you don’t know what you want. The easiest way is to first decide if you want Thai or Japanese food. Then, look at the corresponding menu. If you come here for lunch, they also have lunch specials. I wanted the duck noodle soup which wasn’t on the lunch special menu but it was still a good deal for $12. It came with a side salad. You can choose a spicy level between 1 to 4. I wasn’t sure how spicy it was so I just chose a 2 and it wasn’t spicy at all. The broth was very sweet actually. There was a lot of rice noodles and Chinese broccoli and slices of duck. It was very good! Service was very good! I’m so glad I got to try this place out and I look forward to coming here again to try something else. Parking was pretty easy. There is a lot of parking but it can get a bit crowded and you might have to walk a little bit but there is a large parking lot.

Kanok Thai Bistro – Menu with Prices – 1450 Baker St Suite C, Costa Mesa

4/2/19 Ate lunch today: red curry and spicy pork noodle soup. Both were LATE and Terrible! No lemongrass element in the ingredients and lacking the sweet. Just all vinegary and salty. The rice portion was SMALL and HARD. WTHeck happened??! ************************ Update March 2019 I have been here twice more since my last review. I have to admit the food is very good. However, they did not ask for the spicy level on my husband’s Drunken noodle and made it too spicy for him. ************************ I frequented this restaurant when it was Nimmarn, on a weekly basis. I was so happy that it re-opened under new ownership? with a new name? Anyway, we came in at lunch time and ordered 3 dishes: Panang curry lunch special $8.99, Tom Kha Kai shrimp soup $11, and Drunken noodle with pork lunch special $8.99. The soup came out with a large piece of clear PLASTIC in it. The waitress apologized and offered to replace it. I said no worries and ate it anyway. It tasted good. It was served in a large metal pot, not the clay pot like the past restaurant. Plus there was no fire to keep it hot. Strike 2. The other lunches specials were tasty and good. Pork seemed a bit gamely. Was never offered the chili condiments or chopsticks. When getting the bill they gave us the wrong table for only 1 entree. After receiving our actually bill I was vet DISAPPOINTED to see that they still charged me for the plastic soup. Strike 3. I will not go back unless my husband wants to. Too bad because this cost them a ton of business.

Nak Won Jung Korean Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1010 S 10th St a, McAllen

My gf and I visit this place for the first time, well at least for me. As soon as you walk in it transports you to another country. Loved the way it looks inside. I tried the black bean noodle soup on recommendation from my gf and i was so in shock when it was brought to me. The noodles are authentic and as soon as I got a bite from my noodles I fell in love with it. My gf had the spicy noodle soup and I tried that as well. And I got to say IT WAS SPICY everything was so delicious. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Newbury Salads – Menu with Prices – 1488 Hertel Ave, Buffalo

One stop shop to satisfy your healthy cravings and PK Eats is your answer. Located on Hertel Ave in the old Family Video building is a totally transformed modern micro dining hall that has something for everyone! Newbury Salad & Smoothie Bar, Sun Restaurant (Thai & Burmese), and Bar Vera located in the same space. Yesterday I checked out PK Eats for the first time and everyone was friendly & accommodating. Their is seating inside and around the bar area! Beautiful design and concept. For lunch I ordered a mega spicy tuna sun roll (imagine a big sushi roll) and you can choose what you want inside of it! I chose the seaweed wrap, black rice (so much tastier and healthier than white or brown), tuna, carrot, mango, cream cheese, asparagus, and spicy sauce. They cut it in half (took it to go)! I also ordered the coconut chicken noodle soup which was delicious. I ordered it because I feel a cold coming on. It’s served with lime and crispy rice noodles. You can get the spice level at mild, medium or hot. I ordered medium that was still very spicy and I usually enjoy hot spiced things. Next time I’ll order mild… At Newbury Salad & Smoothie Bar I ordered the Cobb salad to go for my first day back to teaching from break. Everyone at lunch was asking where I got the salad because it looked so appetizing. One thing I appreciate from Newbury is all the salad dressings are homemade and tasty! The produce and toppings are fresh too. In my salad I chose the spicy grilled chicken, tomatoes, chopped cucumber, feta, jalapeño, and hard boiled egg. The vinaigrette made the salad and was very satisfying. The word will be spread about PK EATS and next time I’ll meet some teacher friends there on a Friday at Bar Vera for a cocktail! Hertel Ave has a lot to offer to the public but this is what a Hertel needed!

Paik’s Noodles – Menu with Prices – 28124 Newhall Ranch Rd, Santa Clarita

This is a review for lunch to-go order on a cold weekday! What I ordered: Beef Jjamppongbap (no spice) Food: The broth was flavorful and PERFECT for a cold and rainy weather. I ended up slurping the soup after I finished eating the noodles and toppings! As what others noted, it has a peppery taste which might not be for everyone. But works for me!! The actual bowl was full of vegetables, beef, and a couple of shrimps. You would get a good amount for each mouthful of noodle and soup! Price: $ CHEAP for the quality and quantity! Parking: It always has ample parking. This is located inside the plaza. Service: For the TO-GO experience only! I like the fact that they didn’t forget the necessities that comes with the order such as utensils and napkins. Plus points for me! Just like ordering a bowl of noodle soup, the broth and noodles/toppings are separated. The noodles I got wasn’t sticking and the veggies seem fresh and not too wilted. However, I would suggest for a bigger bowl for the broth. I had to slurp the soup before putting in the noodles because the bowl was a little shallow to put everything in. It’d be a mess if I just drop all the contents in!! Not to mention it was also hard to mix it in since the to-go bowl is small. WILL COME BACK!!! I will probably order Jajangmyeon during summer time and get the beef soup for winter/cold days. So many items on the menu I’d love to explore!

Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro Menu with Prices 106 Hume Ave, Alexandria

I ate here with my mom and son on a Friday afternoon. I was quite surprised by how crowded it was for a weekday! Logistics: there is a parking lot off to the side of the building. Order at the counter, get a number, food is brought out to your table. Breakfast (or at least waffles) are served all day. In fact, I saw a table tent advertising a daily special of a waffle + a mimosa or Bloody Mary for $15. If you are in a lunch mood there are a variety of sandwiches and salads. All sandwiches come with either chips (just a bagged variety) or a salad. There are also options for 1/2 salad and soup but no 1/2 salad and 1/2 sandwich. They should change that! On this topic, they should also change their hours. Only being open until 5pm has made it hard to get here which is why it took me so long to finally visit. I had their chicken salad at the taste of Del Ray so I recommended that my mom try that. She chose wheat bread and a salad. The portion was large and my mom loved it! She said it was one of the best chicken salad sandwiches she’s had! It had grapes, apples, cranberries, and celery from my memory. The bread was delicious too- seeded on the outside with a thick crust. I chose the fig and prosciutto sandwich. I should have chosen wheat but chose white bread. I loved the salty and sweet combination! We both agreed the dressing for the salads, which was basically just olive oil wasn’t great. We both had iced tea unsweetened which was given to us by the cashier. Not sure if there were free refills or not. The inside decor is cute and they have a patio albeit small as well. And they have high chairs! I enjoyed my lunch and would definitely return!

Pho Bubble Tea Menu with Prices 4492 Meridian St, Bellingham

Who DOESN’T love a bowl of steaming hot pho on a cold and raining December night? I’m pretty sure if you hate that, you also hate humanity. While not exactly right in my back yard (it’s up by Walmart on Meridian St), it’s got OK parking, friendly service (I’m looking at YOU, Pho 99), and the food came out promptly. No, I didn’t order the moon, but two bowls of pho and an order of spring rolls typically takes about 20 minutes at some of the other joints in town. Here, it took under 10 minutes. The spring rolls are good and fresh, albeit on the smaller side. But for $3 for two, what else do you want? The peanut sauce is fairly generic, but again, that’s not the selling point here. We got #3 pho, which was meatballs and steak, and to my delight, the steak was bleeding when it came out. Cooking in the boiling broth, like it should be. And there was a LOT of it. Meatballs are meatballs, so not much to do with that one, but let’s talk about the broth. You can get the normal beef brother, sate, or sweet and spicy. Now – spicy doesn’t mean “spicy.” It just doesn’t, so be prepared to add in your own sriracha. The flavor, though, is worth it. The sate reminds me of a ramen broth, but I’d probably not ever get anything but the sweet and spicy one, even if it is an extra $0.75. As it was my first time here, I didn’t get egg noodles, but those are truly my favorite and I’m going to guess that egg noodle pho with the sweet and spicy broth would be divine. As it was getting late and the idea of bubble tea on top of the gigantic bowl of liquid I just ate was making me feel floaty, I opted for next time. I have heard they’ve got some of the best bubble tea this side of the border, though, so I’m going to have to test it some day soon.

Old Taro Taiwanese Noodle – Menu with Prices – 4370 Thornton Ave, Fremont

One of my (and my mom’s) favorite beef noodle soup places ever! It’s definitely a hole in the wall, so usually on weekdays there is no wait. Occasionally, on weekends during lunch there will be a wait – a lot of families love the lamb hot pots (?), and it’s very family friendly. The place is not big, there are probably only 10 tables total, with 4 seats at each table. The spicy beef noodle soup is so good – it reminds me a lot of beef noodle soups found in Taiwan, and they give 3-4 pieces of meat in each bowl. They also offer the sour mustard greens é?¸è? and hot sauce on the side. Personally, I don’t add anymore hot sauce – it’s spicy enough for me. And recently, they just added “thick” noodles that look like handmade noodles. I love thicker noodles, the texture is much chewier than the original thin noodle. Occasionally, I get the plate of pork ears, since I like to dip them in hot sauce. Price of a bowl of beef noodle soup is $10.25 right now, which is similar to other beef noodle places around Fremont. I come here probably once a week or so, sometimes more. I just got it yesterday for take-out, and I know for a fact I’ll be getting lunch here again in 2 days. The service isn’t amazing, but it’s very efficient. I don’t expect great service at small, family run places like these though. There is no decor, but prices are decent, food is pretty great, and service is efficient. I highly recommend giving the beef noodle soup a try.

Olympic Noodle – Menu with Prices – 4008 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles

Specialty: Dak kal gook soo (sliced noodle soup with chicken) I first learned about Olympic Noodle from one of Jonathan Gold’s articles (https://www.laweekly.com/jonathan-golds-60-korean-dishes-every-angeleno-should-know/) and I never had a chance to visit here because the restaurant always closes on Sunday. Few weeks ago I was about to drive back home from The Original Farmers Market and I stopped by Koreatown for a quick dinner. There’s a parking lot behind the restaurant, but one of the cars blocked the parking entrance so I ultimately just parked on the street. Service was pretty average and each table was served with pickled daikon and a giant stone pot of kimchi. I am a big fan of their sweet and savory kimchi and their pickled daikon was pretty good too (not super vinegary). Menu: There are 12 different noodle options, but their signature item is #1 Korean chicken noodle soup. I also ordered steamed dumplings because it was one of the Yelp’s highlights. *** #1 Korean Chicken Noodle Soup ($12.80): Noodle had somewhat of a firm texture and chicken pieces were not super tender, but broth was very savory and portion was generous! #27 Steamed Dumplings (12 pieces – $10.99): Dumplings were not super juicy, but each dumpling was jammed pack with pork and chives fillings and flavors were on the point. *** I still think chicken noodle soup from Hangari Bajirak Kalguksu is a bit better, but I would totally visit Olympic Noodle for the following reasons: (1) no waiting line, (2) easy parking, (3) yummy kimchi, and (3) solid noodle soup & dumplings with generous portion sizes.

Dha Rae Oak – Menu with Prices – 1108 S Western Ave, Los Angeles

I absolutely love duck, way more so than the other poultry that an old coworker of mine likes to call “yard bird”. I had Dha Rae Ok bookmarked because they offer duck as a meat option for Korean bbq and figured it was finally time to check it off my list. Parking: it’s valet parking only for $3 in their tiny lot behind the restaurant. You can always try looking for street parking but we all know that never works out unless you get lucky. When we got there it was surprisingly not busy at all, we were seated right away and after browsing the menu decided to go with the smoked duck option for $70. Never having eaten there before, we did not know that the smoked duck came with the platter of duck meat and the duck soup with noodles. We attempted to order another plate of meat and the waitress looked at us and said, “no more, no more, this enough.” At first we thought she meant that they didn’t have any more of the smoked duck but then we realized she was telling us not to order anymore. We figured that meant that she didn’t think we would be able to finish the duck order we had….challenge accepted. So the first thing brought out was a fairly large size platter of duck meat that our waitress proceeded to put on the grilll for us. The meat is already cooked and all you are doing is warming it up. Meat wise, the duck had really good flavor, definitely different than Chinese roasted duck so do not come in expecting it to taste like that. The duck was tender and fatty and was slightly sweet, I’m not sure how to describe the flavor but it was super good and did not have that gamey after taste that duck can have if not prepared correctly. After polishing off all the duck they brought out a duck soup with noodles. The duck soup had the leftover parts of the duck that you otherwise wouldn’t eat, so they basically use the entire duck. The soup was good, it is spicy though so just a forewarning. The banchans that came with it were fresh but a bit different than usual. The kim chi was not as good as I would have liked but that’s to be expected. Everyone knocks them down a star or so for service or price. Service was great when we went, the servers were attentive, despite the language barrier, we did not have any issues. Price wise, yes it’s $70 for duck but to be fair, it’s quite a lot of food that could easily feed 3 people or 2 exceptional eaters. Personally, I thought the price was fair, albeit a bit pricey but nothing to warrant knocking a star off. I would definitely come back and bring more friends to partake in the food. I’m sure they would love it too.

My Chau Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1715 Kingsway, Vancouver

I’ve been able to try a decent amount of Vietnamese restaurants. Love how they all specialize in a specific dish. My Chau’s claim to fame is their pho ga (chicken noodle soup). They’re located next door to Jarrito Loco Tacos. I dropped in for lunch twice. It’s reasonably busy. Didn’t realize they have more tables than when you first walk in. Staff is friendly and the food comes out quickly. They drop off a pot of jasmine tea when you sit down. The menu is massive with chicken pho, beef pho, noodle soup/dry noodle, rice vermicelli, rice dishes, appetizers, desserts, fruit shakes and beverages. Stick with #1-3 and you’ll be in good hands. Prices on the menu already include taxes. Trip #1 First visit was a solo one on a late Wednesday (around 2:00pm). – Mien ga (#2) ($9.75 large) – special chicken with clear noodle in soup with chicken, liver, gizzard, quail egg and chicken balls. There’s so much noodles but I finished them all. Loved the chicken balls and gizzard. Great chewy texture. All about the off cut meats! There was also grilled onions in the broth. Broth was fragrant, clean, simple and homey. – Bun thit nuong cha gio (#42) ($9.25) – grilled pork and spring roll over vermicelli. Got this to go for B’s dinner. Smelled great. The only complaint she had was that they didn’t give enough fish sauce to cover all the noodles. Trip #2 Second trip was on a Friday (around 12:45pm). Lots of regulars eating in. Loved how an older grandpa smacked one of the waiters butt’s… – Pho ga my chau dac biet (#1) ($8.75 small) – special chicken noodle in soup. Came with chicken, liver (B omitted hers), gizzard, quail egg and chicken balls. Looked similar to when I ordered their #2 bowl. – Pho ga don (#3) ($9.75 large) – deep fried chicken with rice noodle in soup. This seems to be their most popular dish so I had to try it. The chicken comes on a separate dish to keep it dry. Skin had a solid crackling and was even more delicious dipped into the sweet chili sauce. Broth is clean and simple with a subtle, unexpected depth to it. Cash only. It’s homey, comfort Vietnamese food.

Tom Yum Thai – Menu with Prices – 3313 Belt Line Rd, Garland

At first I have never really come to this side of the town mainly because I live up in McKinney. And that one time one of my friend as me to join him for lunch there I was like why not, I would go and try it. It’s one of my favorite Thai food restaurant in Dallas. The lunch portion was huge for the price you pay for compare to what you get from other place and the food is delicious. Normally I would get pad see ew with level 3 of spicy, I can handle my spicy and level 3 is already pretty spicy to me and I love it. And I had been coming back to Tom Yum for a couple times to try other entrees. I also like their chicken curry fried rice with level 2 of spicy, they’re tend to a little spicy then what you get from the pad see ew. They’re also my favorite. I would definitely recommend to try it for lunch with their lunch special deals from Monday to Friday. If you like their food like me, you would be going back more often then you think.

Golden Corner Noodles – Menu with Prices – 4215 College Point Blvd, Flushing

This is one of those hole in the walls secret noodle shops. There is a no decor, no ambiance, uncomfortable place to eat in. The garbage can is too close to the diner and diners are constantly bumping into each other. All that said, the noodle soup is so good! The beef noodle soup has chunks of savory beef that has enough chew in it to let you know you’re eating beef. The broth is a rich deep beefy broth. Then they put in the add ones like the pickled veggies, sprouts, and cilantro. On the tables, they have their home made hot oil. BE CAREFUL WITH THEIR HOT OIL…!!! I’m normally not affected by the hot oil at these restaurants because it’s not that spicy. This one was. I put in 2 big spoonfuls (because I’m a spice head) and kept getting caught by surprise as I was eating the noodles and drinking in the soup…so much so that I keep coughing because the spice got to me. lol The tea eggs as an appetizer was great. Some places make the tea eggs very weak and soy saucy…these were actually TEA tasting eggs. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because of the uncomfortable seating arrangement, but the food is definitely 5 stars. Oh…good news! They’ve now started taking credit cards for orders more than $20!
