So weâ??re southern California transplants, aka, coffee bean and tea leaf lovers and since leaving home, weâ??ve yet to find a place that tastes and reminds us of home… that was until we decided to stop in and try this little shop tucked away in the corner of the target shopping center. We get the mocha java chino which is reminiscent of our mocha ice blended drink from Cali (we order ours without the chocolate drizzle) and donâ??t even get me started on the amazing and personalized service and hospitality! If youâ??re from the L.A. area, tired of Starbucks, or just want a place that will add to your morning coffee routine, and start your day off right, this is your spot! Small business feel, with corporate taste and quality ð???

Regent Coffee Roasters and Brew Bar – Menu with Prices – 249 N Brand Blvd, Glendale

This review is based strictly on my order of their iced mocha latte. First, you can tell a lot about a coffee shop from the mocha they use. I was pleasantly surprised that they make their own mocha, that is ALWAYS a plus..better than disgusting fudge chocolate that other places use. Second, I was greeted by a barista who was sitting on the counter. Like, that’s a tad bit weird for me. So my iced mocha actually tastes decent, which means their espresso beans are of high quality. Problem is that I feel like I am drinking a latte with chunks of chocolate. They clearly did not melt the chocolate, nor did they try to dilute it in any shape or form into the beverage. It’s so bad that my straw is clogged with chocolate pieces. Kinda gross. If they could just figure out how to perfectly add the ingredients together this place would be on the top of my list (maybe top 10, nowhere near top 5). The oat milk that they use is not my favorite either. Oatly is by far the best oatmilk in the market so I get annoyed when coffee shops don’t carry it. Also, way pricier than other places—and I am usually okay with paying top dollar for good coffee- this just wasn’t it. *UPDATING my review based on speaking with the owner*- Pretty happy that the owner reached out to explain the issues I discussed. I love small business and I support them 100%. This isn’t my local coffee shop so it would be unfair of me to write them off from one “unfortunate” experience. I do hope to go back and try the mocha again.

Colleen’s Coffee Shop – Menu with Prices – 5755 Mountain Hawk Dr #101, Santa Rosa

This was my first time in Colleen’s. My favorite coffee drink is a mocha. Especially a “Mexican mocha”. The spices add a unique depth to the flavor of the coffee. I have had mochas everywhere I can, bakeries, bagel shops, Pete’s, Starbucks, any where coffee was sold. Most of the time the mocha offered wasn’t very good. I mean spooning Nestlé Quick into the coffee doesn’t qualify. Pete’s has been my favorite place for a regular mocha, semisweet chocolate and the right espresso, wonderful. That is until I tasted the Aztec Mocha at Colleen’s. That first sip was magic! So many things happening at once. The rich chocolate ‘melting’ in my mouth, the cinnamon bite was sharp and rich, and the sweetness completed the trifecta of coffee joy. The bread pudding muffin had to wait to be eaten. There was way too much bliss happening all at once.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf – Menu with Prices – 3350 La Sierra Ave, Riverside

This isn’t the first coffee bean place I have been to but it’s prob the last. I have been to another location and I think their drinks are just Horrible! To say the least. When I got here, there is basically nobody there. Lights are off but it doesn’t show they’re closed on yelp and there is no sign saying they’re closed! So anyways, the self check out counters are right across from the coffee shop since this is inside Ralph’s! I asked one of the employees and he pages someone and they came, I asked the lady or she worked there. She said yea I use to!! So there is nobody that is working there for some reason and I guess part of it I understand Bc their coffee sucks! I wanted to get a latte with whites chocolate mocha!! I figured they’re like Starbucks, pumps of white chocolate mocha.well maybe not. By the time I went to get yogurt and came back for my drink. The lady was gone and she made me a drink that has dark chocolate!! My drink was just left there! I think it was clear that it should have been white chocolate mocha since we had a discussion about it. Never again!

Oudimentary – Menu with Prices – 43170 Osgood Rd, Fremont

This place gets 5 stars for hospitality, unique experiences, and tasty beverages, but the total review misses a star for ambience. This is not a typical coffee shop as one might be led to believe. It is in an office complex and isn’t the easiest to identify as your destination. It may in fact be the corporate offices for Oudimentary. The only thing missing to make this a great place to be is a better environment/ambience. The bar seats four and there are some couches outside the room the bar is located, however the florescent lighting and corporate office feel isn’t easy to relax in. I would suggest some different lighting and maybe a couch and coffee table where the bar is. However the person serving is very friendly and there is calming music as well and the nice scent of burning Oud. With that said, I don’t think the goal of Oudimentary’s business is food service as it is an online retailer. However, I am thankful for the outlet that the owners have chosen to make where one can come and experience what Oudimentary has to offer. If you are interested in doing something different, quiet and enjoyable… visit Oudimentary.

Anthem Coffee & Tea – Stadium District Tacoma – Menu with Prices – 102 N G St, Tacoma

I go to a lot of coffee shops during the week. Most of the time on certain days I go to set ones but on Sundays I try to keep the slot “open and on rotation” so I can go out and try new coffee shops. I knew that there was an Anthem Coffee shop in the Stadium District of Tacoma but it’s a neighborhood and a couple blocks that we don’t roam around much in. This Anthem is housed in a brand new building in Stadium which either contains apartments or condos (perhaps both). The setting for this Anthem is sleek and clean which is a style and setting I always appreciate. Another thing I loved about my visit to this location is how relaxing it was. I always want businesses I like to succeed and do well but sometimes there are so many people at the very successful ones it’s hard to find places to sit and the crowd can bring on a whole other range of situations…. some favorable…. some not so much. lol Anthem Coffee has multiple locations and is a bigger company that I normally go to for coffee shops but it had a intimate setting and the quality of the coffee drink I had and pastry definitely had the small, independent shop kind of feel and quality. What I got to drink here was a Black and White Mocha which was a mocha that contained white and dark chocolate. I was a little bit concerned that the coffee drink may be too sweet but it wasn’t and the ingredients that went into the coffee was very enjoyable. The pastry I had was very good too. I really enjoyed my first experience with an Anthem Coffee location and will definitely incorporate them into my Sunday rotation. Steve was a little bit concerned about going here because they may be too corporate but I didn’t walk away with that impression much at all.

World Traveler Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 106 N Sunrise Ave St C7, Roseville

This is my second time here and I have to say that my coffee has tasted amazing both times. This location is only open on the weekdays though and I work full time and live in Sacramento, so don’t get to come too frequently. I was told that they are opening up a second location in Folsom though that will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. every day including weekends. The chocolate they use in their mocha is non-dairy and they have oat milk available which is awesome. I’ve had both an iced mocha with oat milk and an iced blackberry mocha with oat milk and both were delicious. The pastries aren’t meant for people who don’t consume eggs and dairy though, so I have always passed on those. I have been the only customer both times I’ve gone, so they must be making money other ways than just through their cafe. The interior is small, but there are two tables that fit four people each out on the patio. I’m hanging out on the patio right now enjoying my iced coffee. If you know what good coffee tastes like then you will for sure like the taste of the coffee here.

The Human Bean of Reno – Menu with Prices – 3915 S McCarran Blvd, Reno

This is probably my favorite coffee place in Reno. The coffee is fabulous, and the service is always top notch. The employees are always ridiculously kind and attentive and very helpful for my indecisive ways. The only thing I have to complain about is that they donâ??t have a sit down location because I love them so much. The chocolate beans they give you on top of your drink order is always an amazing touch.

The Hotdogologist – Menu with Prices – 114 N Ellison Dr Unit #106, San Antonio

Phenomenal!!!!! Just stopped by and I’m gonna do my best to be a regular now. First time I had the 210 dawg and it was delicious and very low priced, second time I came with my gf and I had the owner surprise me. He made me the Brooklyn and the jalapeño bomber dogs with one of em being a sausage. The flavors were out of this world and the dogs had the snap I’ve heard so much about. The man truly cares about his business and offers an amazing service. He makes u feel at home and offers great hospitality. Support this business!!! Great place, great food and amazing service!!

Magpies Cakes – Menu with Prices – 846 N Central St, Knoxville

I’m a little late with this review but the cupcakes are great and deserve their props. My boyfriend is a pie man and I’m a cake girl so he stopped by Magpies and got me some cupcakes like a sweetheart one weekend. He got Chocolate Caramel, Chocolate Fudge, Red Velvet, Chocolate Mocha, Just About Decadent, Carmel Macchiato, Lemon Raspberry and Strawberry Cream. He got a dozen which can run from $22-32 depending on what you choose. They have a menu on their website with prices. I think it’s pricy but I am self-admittedly frugal so you might think differently. I have to say that the cupcakes were absolutely amazing, though. I am a chocolate person so I just knew that any of the chocolate ones would be my favorites. My fave was the Red Velvet! It was incredible. The icing was perfect and just made it that much better. The Chocolate Mocha surprised me because I am not a coffee person but it was very good as well as the Carmel Macchiato. Now, don’t get me wrong…the Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Caramel and Just About Decadent cupcakes were fantastic…but the Red Velvet won me over in a shocking and surprising kind of way. Overall, they were amazing and if you have a special occasion then definitely splurge and go to Magpies. Actually, if you just need to make your day brighter, stop in for a single cupcake. It’s definitely worth it and “all butter all the time” is the way to go. Also, guys (and girls), if you want to make your significant other happy or if you’re in the doghouse…get them a treat from Magpies! Trust me, they will love you a little extra.

Heart and Soul Coffee – Menu with Prices – 930 11th St, Modesto

Little brother wanted some coffee after having lunch. He recommended this place that is downtown. The ambiance was cool. Love the open space. I ordered a hot mocha and my brother ordered a different drink. Think it had the name of lumberjack latte but I could be wrong. The drinks were made fast but one issue. The girl made me an iced mocha and not a hot mocha. Oh well let’s run with it right. I’m actually glad I did. This iced mocha was good. Just the perfect amount of sweetness. If I had to do it all over, I would Order a non fat iced mocha. In the end, the screw up turned out to be a blessing. Thanks for the great iced mocha.

French Truck Coffee – Menu with Prices – 650 Poydras St Suite 102, New Orleans

I am not a â??coffee aficionado or expert, I just know what I want and what I love. Anyway, before we start walking around the beautiful Garden District, we stopped by at this coffee shop. We ordered Iced Mocha Latte, Oji drip Iced Coffee, â??and a â??muffin. Iced Mocha – This is my usual order in any new coffee shop that I visit, it becomes my baseline. For this particular location, their Mocha Latte is different from other Mocha Latte that I have tried. The combination of mocha and espresso give this sour taste, I think the roast of the bean is light to medium with fruity undertone which I don’t mind but not my favorite. They also put a lot of ice, but I think you can just ask them for less ice. Oji Drip Iced Coffee – The process of making this coffee is a separate attraction which you can see over the counter. The coffee itself tastesâ?? like a combination of some kind â??of tea and fruit flavor, truly not in my alley but it was a â??refreshing taste for the summer heat. Muffin – I totally forgot the name, but the softness and deliciousness of it stayâ?? with me. It was just a â??perfect pick-me-up muffin. Space – They do have a good amount of tables and chairs, where you can hang out with your friends, working, studying or just people watching. All in all, it was an okay experience, coffee was refreshing not my favorite but the muffin was amazing. I recommend to give them a try, you will have your coffee fix and an Instagramâ?? post.

Caffe Caldo – Menu with Prices – 21070 Beach Blvd, Huntington Beach

Pros 1. Nice tasting coffee 2. Nice looking inside, though a little small 3. Fast at making my coffee Cons 1. I asked if they would do food to go and they said no, but they could seat us inside instead. I said we had to rush so would not be able to sit in. They said they could do a coffee to go. 2. Service felt a little condescending and intimidating. I asked for a nonfat mocha and was informed “we can do a latte and put it with a hot chocolate.” I said yes (I saw plenty of reviews where people had mochas and the guy serving sounded like I was asking for something unusual). He then told the barista to make a latte and put it with a hot chocolate. The barista then said to me, “you know nonfat milk has more sugar than whole milk? So whole milk is actually better for you.” I said I did not know that, but ok do whole milk then. He replied, “You should do your research.” I felt that last comment was especially rude. I should “do my research?” I’m following my doctor’s orders and if it’s so bad, then why do they sell it? This whole vibe made me feel like I wanted to just leave. It wasn’t just what was said but how it was said. 3. I was given a large size and later realized they had different cup sizes on display. I would have liked it if they asked me what size instead of assuming and upsizing without my knowledge until after the fact. Overall, the mocha tasted good and service was efficient (although they were not busy during that time), but I could do without the rudeness and assumptions.
