My Husband and I went here for the first time on December 7th. It is connected to a gas station.where the old Clark gas station was on Bluffton Road a few doors south of China Palace. The young lady at the register did not smile or say hello or anything. I thought was weird. I told her it was our first time. UUh like so what ??? Well okay so we ordered some food. Now for the 4 stars. We ordered 2 Gyro platters/ with 2 sides. We both got coleslaw and their seasoned fries (crispy) Coca cola machine had my favorite beverage and Husband got iced tea.NOW the food was REALLY great. They crisp the gyro meat a bit and we love that. the fries perfect and HOT! The coleslaw was a bit creamy and tasted crispy and crunchy, The “pita ” was cut in half. Not the kind with pockets. Just flat. the sauce is served on the side and you can get extra at the condiment bar where there are several to choose from. Mayo (ask for at counter) are in packets. Husband got 1/2 of a original cheesesteak to go..He said it was good when He warmed it later on in the evening. He said He would get that again too. Now the cheesecake, it was ok for a sweet the key lime pie?? NO, NO, not good. After one bite i threw it away.Had an odd taste. I do like key lime pie.Just not this one..All in all we would go back and eat there again. For just a bit over $20.00 ( not including the cheesesteak and 2 pieces a pie Husband got those when I went to the gas station through the restaraunt door.that was an extra $11.00)..so far yeah good food..Try them out .We will go again..SMILE young Lady!!!! As a side note that gas station is a candy and drink paradise.LOL..The cook and the Lady standing in the kitchen did smile. Can’t forget that.Thank You for that.

Mr. Gyros & Burgers – Menu with Prices – 14407 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

The hubs and I have been here twice during our travels. We are so happy we found this place! The Outer Banks has beautiful beaches, but we do not have authentic gyros like this! The first time we went my husband ordered the cheese steak gyro and I ordered the traditional gyro with feta! Both pitas were stuffed full of tasty goodness–but we both agreed that the gyro was better–as it should be, I suppose!! The pita was soft and warm, the gyro meat was plentiful, hot off the spit, the taziki tasted like it was homemade and tasted sooo good!! The feta (which is an additional charge that I was happy to pay) was the perfect portion! The French fries are my fave kind of fries–they are the extra crispy ones that were cooked just right! I don’t like ketchup (weird, I know–I can’t help it). Knowing this, my husband, being super sweet, asked for BBQ sauce as a substitute for the fries–it was an additional charge as well. The desserts look delish–although we have been too full to try them!! The same girl has worked the cash register both times we have been there. While quiet, she is super nice and answers all questions with expert knowledge. Maybe she just seems quiet because I talk a lot! The second time we went, they had remodeled the small, inside dining room which was a huge improvement!! We liked the new look and appreciates the investment they put back into their business. Long story short–it’s worth the stop!

Twisting Roots – Menu with Prices – 5469 Chambers Way E, Jacksonville

WOW! I was thinking it was going to be good but not GREAT! The lady (boss?) was welcoming and asked if I wanted to try a sample. But as I was browsing their menu the Bikini Bottom sandwich caught my eye. Shrimp and crawfish combo sounded like a win-win situation. My order came with a side of Cajun style fries and a drink. The fries were super crispy and had a flavorful spicy kick, what cajun fries should be! The sandwich surprised me, I read that it had a southwestern coleslaw as a topping but I didn’t think much about it since I’m neutral when it comes to coleslaw in general. Coupled with the surprisingly crispy battered fried shrimp-crawfish it made the sandwich so good. Loved the crunchiness of the seafood with the crispiness of the slaw combined with the soft bread. Great trinity of textures and flavors on my palate. I highly recommend this food truck even if you have given them a try, I’d say try another sandwich and see what other flavors they offer ;)!

Metro Diner – Menu with Prices – 2068 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg

Went in for lunch on Sunday with my husband, around 1230pm. It was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The server was a very nice young lady. We had water quick, and she kept my husband’s soda full. The menu had lots of yummy options to choose from. The chicken and waffles looked AMAZING! I ordered biscuits and gravy, with cheese eggs (cheese cost extra, be aware most things cost extra, and it’s already kinda pricey) and crispy hash browns. The food took a little long, but they were busy so no surprise there. The portions were good. The taste was too bland to say it was bad, but to flavorless to say it was good. I added lots of salt and pepper to the biscuits and gravy, but still they tasted like nothing really, not even the sausage that was in it. My husband ordered a cheesesteak and max n cheese (mac and cheese cost extra, because it’s a prime side, they must buy expensive cheese) He liked everything. I tasted the mac and cheese, it was good, small portion though, since you have to pay extra they could give more. All in all a nice place. It would be better if they invested a little less in cheese and more on seasoning. I think.

Smileys Fish Chicken And More – Menu with Prices – 1702 E Broadway, Lubbock

Well I have nothing but great things to say about this place! It was very clean when we walked in and we were greeted with a smile! The recommended the catfish fillets and so that’s what I ordered. The flavor was on point and they cooked it perfectly! My sides were coleslaw and French fries, again tasty! My wife ordered the chicken strip basket with red beans , fries and coleslaw and she said it was great! We will definitely return another day! Oh and the best puff rolls with honey I have had!! Go check this place out you will not be disappointed.

Johnny’s Greek – Menu with Prices – 4975 S Alma School Rd, Chandler

The food was delicious. Both my spouse and I ordered the Gyro. It was the best I have ever experienced. The Pita was soft and fresh and the meat inside was delicious as well as the sauce. My spouse ordered the Gyro platter which came with a side and a drink. He chose fries which were standard restaurant type fries. The service was excellent. The young lady behind the counter was friendly, and our food came out fast. My Gyro without the Fries and a drink was $6.95 and my spouses with the side and a drink was $11.49. The fun atmosphere was that of an outdoor Mediterranean bar that served Greek food and burgers and hot dogs. The majority of the seating was outdoors. The inside dining area was small with a bar serving alcohol that extended the length of the indoor area and sported four big screen TV’s. Glass doors extended the length of the restaurant that could be opened creating the outdoor bar atmosphere. Obviously due to the extreme heat, during our visit they were closed. I highly recommend Johnny’s Greek and Burger Bar. It was fun, the food was excellent, the service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. If Johnny is reading this I have a suggestion. Install a really good outdoor mist system in your outdoor eating area. People will sit outdoors if you have one and it might even alleviate some of the problem with the heat coming through the outdoor drink bar into the kitchen. We will be back.

Mi Lindo Veracruz Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1446 Madison St, Clarksville

Oh my word. I do believe this restaurant has the ability to break the curse of this location. This was my last duty station so we have been here since 98. I’ve seen maybe half a dozen businesses open and close here. But hubby and I were intrigued one day last month to go check this place out and I am so glad we did! It’s very small inside; Very very basic. Don’t expect fancy tables or hi-etc sound system here. When we were there the bulk of the folks seemed to have called in their orders and came to pick up so it was just hubby and i as eat in customers. The young man who took our order was very polite and helpful. We ordered a variety of the tacos and tamales and i of course got my fajitas. Soon the smells of our food began cooking. And then came the singing from the kitchen. My husband’s mother recently passed away and you could tell from his smile and the watery eyes he was thinking of his mum as we listened to the lady and gentleman sing together. No fancy music system needed here when we have happy people in the kitchen. The food was soooo good. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star were the rice and beans for my side were a little bland and when there was a bit of a line from the people coming in to get their food or just buy a couple drinks the young man didn’t have any help so it was a bit of a wait for our checks but we just absolutely loved the relaxing atmosphere, the simplicity of it all and I personally loved how it helped my husband to smile with happy memories of his mum and childhood after a rough few weeks. Prices were very reasonable for as much as you get. Can’t wait to go again soon and I hope this place is here for a long long time.

Albee’s NY Gyros – Menu with Prices – 2260 W 18th Ave, Eugene

Having live in NY for many years and being a devoted fan of the lamb gyro, I went into this establishment for the first time last week with high expectations. I was met by very friendly staffers who did not disappoint. Along with the lamb gyro I also ordered up a garlic fry which was big enough to split with my sister and they were very good. The gyro was large enough to be filling on it’s own so the split on the fries still worked out to be a bit more then we could eat and the gyro itself really packed in the Greek flavors I have loved and known in NY. Good job fellas, if I ever make it back to Oregon, I’ll definitely hit ya up again.

Yanni’s Golden Gyros – Menu with Prices – 6658 W Washington St, Indianapolis

This place has been on my radar since opening. As a surprise, I made a slight detour on my way home from work and picked up dinner. The gentleman at the drive through window was so nice! There was a slight miscommunication at ordering, which translated to my gyros having tzaziki ON them instead of on the side, and my paying for three extra sides. No big deal, I should have been more clear and will next time. Gyros are stuffed with delicious meat, fresh sliced tomatoes, and fragrant red onion. I got an extra for Mr Jen F to have for lunch the next day and he was raving about how well it reheated. The wings were crispy, flavorful, and hot. I loved them. The hot sauce and ranch I got on the side was unnecessary because they had so much flavor on their own. Fries are fine. Nothing specifically good or bad about them. They are probably much better fresh and not after a 20 minute drive. Get here and get you some damn food! It’s fresh and inexpensive Pro tip: put some of that hot sauce on your gyro. You’re welcome.

Tom & Jerry’s Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 5446 E State St, Rockford

This place boasts it is the king of the gyro…and on blended knee it is! This is now one of my top three places to eat while in Rockford. They run all kinds of specials and have an extensive menu, if you can’t find something to eat here why did you go out. I ordered the Chicago style hot dog loaded and a gyro with fries. The dog was to die for: pickle, hot peppers, onion, tomato, mustard on a poppy seed bun, everything you could ask for (except for a barley pop – no alcohol). And then there was the gyro piled high with meat, onions, tomatoes and cucumber sauce. Had to eat half of it with a fork before I could fold the pita. I like steak fries, these are crinkle cut, but these are the size of your thumb! There must have been a half a pound, which I could not finish cause the dog and gyro did me in. Roll me out and on Tuesdays you receive a $2 coupon to use on any other day but Tuesday. I’ll be back, but I have to decide on only one dish not two…just say’n…

Wertel’s Tap – Menu with Prices – 2545 Manitowoc Rd, Green Bay

Wertel’s Tap is definitely old school. They do not accept credit cards. The food was well received. The chicken strips were very good. The cheeseburger was also good. The tator tours were spot on! The French fries, in my opinion, were much too thin and add expected were much “harder” than a regular sized french fry. Now the perch fry was the main entree that we ordered. At over $14, it is priced as high as any perch fry I have had in the area. As far as the taste, I will say that that it had only a very light lake perch flavor as if it had freezer burn. The cook on the fish was perfect. Oh, how can I forget the coleslaw? Maybe because I don’t like coleslaw. In fairness, I did taste it and I will say that was not bad at all. You do have the best coleslaw I have ever had. I will be back again to try the bluegill and give the perch another chance. Lastly, the lady who served us was fantastic!

Shawarma & Grill – Menu with Prices – 32483 Temecula Pkwy #E117, Temecula

A friend and I will typically eat around this area which has so many plazas on our way to the desert at Borrego Springs or coming back from the Nightfall Starparty. I picked this place our from YELP reviews and I’m so glad we had our lunch here. We were greeted by the pretty cashier, Robyn, and I ordered a Gyro plate while a friend wanted some fries but wanted some meat without the extra stuff included in a combo. They apparently allow ordering a side of just meat. The portions are GENEROUS so I ate half of my order and took the rest to go. My friend couldn’t finish his fries. I tried a bit of the fries and they’re also really good! Something with that seasoning. I also loved the pita bread that went with the hummus that I went up the counter to order two extra pita breads on the side before leaving since I had extra hummus. Robyn actually handed me the pita bread without an extra charge. I definitely love this place and wish it was around LA. There are other great restaurants in the area with great reviews/food, but I will definitely stop by this place again when I go to Nightfall next year.

Chicago Style Gyro – Menu with Prices – 539 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids

Just ate here for the first time and we were impressed with the food and the staff. We had the Chicago gyro and pita with hummus. The pita was warm and the hummus was delicious but the gyro was awesome! We had it “traditional” with tzatziki, cucumber, tomato, feta, lettuce, bell peppers, and onion. We were surprised that the side was French fries but after tasting them it was clear as day, they were great fries, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Try them with ketchup! Then the piece de resistance, baklava, light and fluffy crust, not too sweet, nutty… perfect. Worth the buck and a quarter a slice. They don’t make it there but its “imported from Detroit” (wink). The staff was friendly and explained the traditional menu and the American side too. The cafe itself was nothing fancy but who cares when the food is so good? Then there is the price, I’d like to say it was cheap but…oh yeah it was cheap! So what are you waiting for, an invitation?? Do it! Keep local cafe’s like this one in business for years to enjoy! Thanks!
