My wife and I were excited to try this place. Upon arrival the shop was clean and trendy. The guy working the counter was nice. Pricing was a bit more expensive than I was expecting. At that pricing, I could go to Thump or Lone Pine and guarantee to get a great cup of coffee. Which brings me to the coffee. My latte was alright. I’m fairly sure they use 1% Milk, as my latte was not as think and creamy as I expected. Perhaps everybody uses 1%, in which case, this latte was more watery for another reason. My wife ordered a coconut milk latte. This was “drinkable” in her words, and that’s not the good drinkable usage. We won’t be going back, if you want to drink Megaphone Coffee, go to Companion, they also use Megaphone roasted beans with a much better palate and atmosphere.

Luckyduck Bicycle Cafe – Menu with Prices – 302 12th St, Oakland

Hipster interior design and great lattes! I’ve always wanted to try this place out since it’s located so close to my grandparents’ place. I wish they open earlier because I am usually only in the area before 8am. I came here at around 8:15am on a weekday and waited in line for 10min because they were short on staff. I ordered the chai latte with oat milk and the latte with whole milk. Chai Latte $4.75 (3.8/5) I love that they serve oat milk! The tea flavor was average. I like my chai to have a ginger kick to it but this one doesn’t have it. It has a layer of foam on top and the drink has a nice cinnamon flavor. There’s a hint of sweetness and it’s very creamy with the oat milk. Latte $4 (5/5) I ordered it with whole milk and the balance of the espresso shot to milk ratio was perfect. Very creamy and smooth. This place has a relaxing vibe with cool arts. It’s a nice place to work or to have a chat. I will definitely come back for their coffee and try their food next time!

Five Senses Coffee House Menu with Prices 6010 S Western St #300, Amarillo

I love the location because I love on the South side of town so all of the other coffee shops are farther away and they’re always packed! I also love their coffee – I’m not a coffee connoisseur but I’m not a fan of the coffee in a lot of the places around town but I love this coffee! They have oat milk (I know it sounds crazy, hear me out!) which I’d never heard of but is creamy and tastes good. I hated having whole milk but skim milk makes it taste watery and almond milk has too strong of a taste. Oat milk is my new go – to and it’s all thanks to this place! The people that work there are also super nice and recognize me as a regular, always making conversation and recommending new drinks to try.

Companion Coffeehouse Menu with Prices 1441 SW Chandler Ave #106, Bend

This place is pretty cool, has good coffee and a super friendly staff. The coffee is megaphone, Spoken Moto also uses megaphone, but they have completely different atmospheres, I find companion coffee has a better atmosphere to work. Food and Drink – coffee is good they have pretty bold flavors. They also have some teas and mostly standard food options, bagels, sandwiches, scones that kinda thing. My Positives – I enjoy having business meetings here bc it’s sorta quite and the tables are a good size for conversation! Negatives – the downside of this place over some of the other coffee joints in town is the seating, they have some good seats but it’ll fill up quickly during busy times, also a lot of the seating is “exposed” and a lot of ppl don’t like working on laptops if it’s easy to ease drop.

Valentine Coffee Co. – Menu with Prices – 5918 W Vliet St, Milwaukee

Update on 6/11/19 & 6/12/19: returned and tried their seasonal Lavender Latte (hot) and vanilla bean latte (hot). The lavender latte was very flora and calming and the lavender taste stayed in my mouth for a long time. The coffee itself tasted not very strong. So that is something perfect for when you feel you want not just caffeine but a bit more fun/flavor. The vanilla bean latte was very smooth, rich and sweet. But the level of sweetness was just right – I mean you would definitely say it is a sweet drink but it doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable. Previous review: I have bought bags of coffee beans from them, and they are all in season, fresh and great beans (I judged beans by their colors, smells, shapes, and the feelings when I hold them in hand). However, for some reason I never sat down and tried their latte or mocha which are recommended by many people until recently. Sooo, I went on a weekday morning to grab a large sea salt mocha (all sizes include 2 shots as standard) and a power scone. First of all, temperature of the drink was right, which was very important for an espresso drink to me. Second, the milk foam was light yet dense. Well done! Third, the drink was no over sweet but smooth and rich. In addition, the power scone which is not sweet yet dense and nutty went very well with the drink. So together, they really warmed and energized me up! Atmosphere was great. Staff were roasting or making coffee, some customers were reading, others like me were grabbing coffee for work.

Amateur Coffee – Menu with Prices – 3913 Cuming St, Omaha

I love this coffee shop. I first stopped here in March with my grandma and mom. We were out and about because they came to look at a house I was lookong at buying. They helped me decide to go for it over some fantastic lattes. I got the seasonal pistachio latte which was DELICIOUS. My mom ordered the rose and cardamom and my grandma got lavender. All of them were deliciously creamy thanks to the oatmilk. My mom is allergic to milk and I avoid dairy so we were both thrilled that they use milk alternatives. It was our first time trying oatmilk and I’m HOOKED. When I’m not at Amateur, I make my own from scratch. My current favorite latte flavor is the maple but I’ve also tried the rose and cardamom and it’s got a lovely floral note to it that complements the coffee. Speaking of which, they fresh grind the coffee beans and make the espresso with each latte. That’s probably what makes it so good. They also serve vegan pastries from Sweet Magnolia’s bakery. I’ve had the blackberry scone and the lemon lavender scone, both of which were delicious. I definitely need to go to Sweet Magnolia’s next!!

Huskins Coffee Company – Menu with Prices – 1901 E First St #138, Santa Ana

Amazing! But,.. one crucial mistake. The employees were fast and courteous. The shop is neat and clean. They have many different options to choose from. There is parking, but very limited. The latte art is always welcome and appealing. The cup that held it had an ingenious, sleeveless design that kept your hand from getting burned when your drink is too hot. But the drink itself… I got a latte. No sweetener. Whole Milk. It was lacking. It didn’t taste “rich” and frothy. When you close your eyes to sip, you feel warm milk with some coffee in it. The coffee beans MAY not have been as fresh as possible, because the flavor did not envelop my mouth as other lattes have in the past. Or maybe the machine burned the espresso? Maybe the milk was bad? Although it did not smell bad… The espresso, a little more on the sour side. And maybe simply against my preference and nothing more. But, it felt no different from heating up some milk in a pan, and dumping some coffee in it. Reminiscent of Starbucks when lazily done. And, I am done with Starbucks. We need coffee shops that care about people and coffee. Note, I am not saying this place does not. I am certainly willing to try it again. And this place is definitely worth a shot. But if this is a regular occurrence, I implore the owner and management to provide their staff with the best tools, and product possible… Because, true coffee lovers are rooting for you. This place has the potential for 5 stars. TO REITERATE. I AM NOT saying that this business uses old beans, cheap machinery, expired milk, etc etc etc. I AM saying, something was wrong with my latte causing it to be flat and dull. But the potential was there. You should definitely try it out!

Bon Beans Organic Coffee, Tea, & Juice – Menu with Prices – 875 E 9 Mile Rd #3, Pensacola

Bon Beans is for sure a coffee shop you can go to every day and not get bored. The baristas offer a great variety of coffee drinks and even more teas. Milk substitutes (almond, soy, or coconut milk) are also offered at an extra price. Make sure to go every Tuesday for BOGO! Out of the numerous coffee shops I’ve been to. Bon Beans stands out for it’s cute and welcoming interior. There are plenty of board games and books to read along with tables and couches to study. The best drink I’ve gotten so far is the cold brew with sugar free vanilla flavoring. I like my cold brews strong and not too bitter; this one was perfect. I would not recommend the dark chocolate flavoring; it did not taste like dark chocolate and instead more like candy and did not hide the bitterness of the coffee well. I’ve also gotten the mocha frappuccino which had a rich milk chocolate flavor; I had hoped the coffee taste would be more apparent. Most recently, I tried the pumpkin spice latte and was not pleased. The latte tasted nothing like pumpkin spice and was exceptionally bitter. Perhaps I have high expectations after having a Starbucks PSL, but I would not recommend this drink from Bon Beans.

RISE Cafe – Delancey – Menu with Prices – 79 Delancey St, New York

RISE Brewing Co’s nitro cold brew on tap is a creamy dream — it pours out looking like there must be milk in there, but there is no milk, sugar or calories in their Original Black flavor. Lately, they’ve come out with some new lattes — two of them are made with oat milk, which is my favorite non-dairy alternative. One is a straight Oat Milk Latte, and the other is a Mocha (which is like a caffeinated chocolate milk). They also have a Classic Latte, for the dairy-inclined. These sound crazy, but my personal favorites are their citrus flavors — the Blood Orange, and particularly the Lemonade. It tastes like an Arnold Palmer, but with more caffeine. It’s 50% organic lemonade, so I really like it best ice cold, or over ice, and I don’t add anything to it. This new cafe also has a few seats, so it’s a great spot to cozy up with a coffee and knock out a short bit of work, or read while hiding from a summer (or autumn!) rainstorm. Love the vibes, keep it up!

Cool Beans Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 31 Mill St, Marietta

I’m working my way through a Mental Floss list of best coffee roasters in each state. When a trip to Atlanta came up, I immediately checked to see how far away Cool Beans Coffee Roasters in Marietta was. I was ecstatic to find out it wasn’t very far. Cool Beans is located in Marietta Square, a cute collection of local stores, restaurants and entertainment venues surrounding a park. The first thing I noticed when entering the shop was their huge red coffee roaster which they’ve named Big Red. It was just hanging out in the middle of the shop for everyone to see. This is not normal, most places keep their roaster tucked away in some back room, not right in the middle of the shop. The coffee geek in me immediately headed over to check Big Red out. After my roaster exploration, I got down to the business at hand. What should I order? I started with my go to, a latte with nut milk, and my wife’s, a mocha. I added on a chocolate muffin for my daughter. I wanted to take home some beans for my aunt and myself. Unlike other coffee shops that have beans prebagged and sitting on a shelf, Cool Beans has over a dozen plastic bins of different roasts tucked to the right of their bar. They don’t measure out and bag a pound of beans until after you order it. I found this approach a bit overwhelming, so much to consider, but the barista took the taste profile I described for both me and my aunt and offered up some recommendations. After everything was paid, I went to find my family. They were seated in a little “private” room to the left of the entrance. It had a small counter (the perfect size for my kids) and was painted like the famous Starry Night painting. My kids loved sitting in their own private space. There was another “private” room on the other side of the business entrance. The rest of Cool Beans is filled with your typical cafe style seating: bar spots, window seats, two and four seated tables. About that coffee. Loved the latte, one of my favorites. It had the perfect balance of nut milk and espresso. Not too sweet, not too milky. My wife found her mocha to be just “ok”. The real win of our visit was the beans I took home. Outside of a roast I got from New York, these have been my favorite beans. They are very flavorful and help me make a mean (and sophisticated) cup of coffee. If you love coffee and find yourself in Atlanta (or Marietta) do yourself a favor and give Cool Beans a visit.

Ohori’s Coffee Roasters, Pen Rd Location – Menu with Prices – 1098 1/2 S St Francis Dr, Santa Fe

I stopped in after reading a few reviews of where to get coffee in SF, and I almost turned away after entering and noticing the very second-wave vibe and the smell of burnt, over-roasted beans (the “Starbucks smell”). The drink prices were favorable and I needed caffeine, so I decided to stick it out. The barista was a little inattentive (didn’t even acknowledge me standing there for a good full minute, even though she wasn’t apparently helping anyone else), and I was a bit turned off to find that the prices were only for a single shot (one shot in a 12-oz latte is not even close to the proper ratio), so it ended up being over $4 by the time I added the necessary second shot. The resulting drink was actually not bitter and quite drinkable and even featured some modest latte art, though I could still detect a subtle astringent taste of over-roasted beans. Not quite “awesome third-wave” quality but definitely good and sufficient.

Turks Coffee Bar – Menu with Prices – 1276 Commercial Dr, Vancouver

Cute little coffee shop on The Drive with yummy coffee and a patio perfect for people-watching. My friend and I stopped in here after brunch to grab some lattes to go. For me a vanilla almond milk latte and for my pal a regular vanilla latte. I loved my little caffeine fix. I’m not sure if it was the coffee itself, the vanilla, or the almond milk, but whatever those baristas did, I really, really enjoyed my latte. Seems like a great place to hang out and catch up with a friend or post up and get some work done. It’s quite small in here, so I can imagine that it would get full quickly, especially on a warm, sunny day. Overall, yummy coffee, friendly baristas, and cute decor from other local businesses. While there are plenty of coffee shops on The Drive, this one will definitely be one of my top ones to visit and recommend.

Howlin’ Hounds Coffee – Menu with Prices – 712 S 16th St, Omaha

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for my morning coffee. We were headed into Omaha for the afternoon and so I had my wife pick a coffee shop in town on Yelp. She ended up choosing Howling hounds and so we put it into the GPS and headed over. Whenever we walked in we were greeted by the barista and then told it would take a little while because the five girls sitting at the bar hadn’t ordered yet. It did take a little while before he got to us and he was certainly a talkative guy. They asked him about some stickers behind the counter and he launched into a respectful but still political talk. In between that and getting the drinks he also took the time to talk to my wife and myself, asking where we were from and other questions. I ultimately did ask him which brewery we should go to in Omaha and found his recommendation to be good. In any case on this day I decided to order a latte. While he was talking to the girls I heard him mention that all of his drinks had 3 shots and that he sourced his coffee from a place near Ithaca, NY. My drink was done pretty quickly and was handed over to me. It ended up tasting pretty good with the coffee tasting rich and the milk taking off any edge that it would have had. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Our barista was certainly a friendly and interesting guy and the coffee was pretty good too.
