We all have watering holes where we meet with fellow humans, and Maude’s Side Car Bar, located in the center of the known universe at the Sun Center in downtown Gainesville, FL is one of those special places. Right next door to the Hippodrome State Theater, it is a wonderful place to get a cold drink before or after the show. Full disclosure: Maudes side car bar is roughly the dimensions of a walk-in closet; this may in turn evoke comments such as “cozy,” “intimate,” “claustrophobic,” or possibly “enforced invasion of personal space.” It’s small, people! Fifteen people is a mob scene. But the bartenders are friendly, compassionate human beings, however, and so have very generous drink specials throughout the week. Wednesday through Friday happy hours are not for folks looking for a complimentary taco bar and a game on the TV. This is serious happy hour, folks. Jazz plays through the amazing sound system at the SCB and the bartender has a menu of mixed drinks to choose from, or let him make a drink that is invented on the spot. No TV, so you have to talk to the person sitting next to you. Like I said, this could be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective!

Pescado Borracho – Menu with Prices – 2540 S Val Vista Dr # 104, Gilbert

Hello Taco Tuesday! If you are looking for a tasty adventure then you are in for a treat. My wife and I have been here a few times in the past with friends and have enjoyed but this was our first go at it on Taco Tuesday! Now let’s get something straight, they do not have a Taco Tuesday special – as they do Taco Thursday’s (go figure) but if you are a Tuesday person for Tacos like everywhere else then come between 3-6pm. Here’s why: 1) Happy Hour is amazing with frozen margaritas, wine and craft draft beer on special. 32oz Laguniyas IPA for $6!!!! Crazy good happy hour. Happy hour also does $1 off tacos so order during this HH also! 2) the Food is fresh and amazing. On this occasion I had the Octopus Tacos with a flour tortilla / and a Baja fish taco – both were perfect / large (they need to be for $5.50 and $6 respectively) / and filling. Adding chips and guac for like $2 is also a good deal considering your 1sr round of chips and salsa are on the house! BEST PART of all of this is that there were only like 4 couples in the whole place and our party of 3. Why? Guess no one knows how great this HH is and where they should really be vs. every other place that has lines and is super packed with screaming kids and grumpy people who hate fighting for tables and specials on Taco Tuesday.. Come Here – you won’t be disappointed!

The Old Pub – Menu with Prices – 420 S 11th St, Lincoln

I love The Old Pub! It has a ton of regulars of all ages and professions that give it a neighborhood bar feel. The bar is a long bar that seats 15-18 people. There are 5 or 6 tall top tables that seat 4 comfortably with additional seating of regular tables as well. There are 6 tv’s generally showing varous sporting events and internet radio music as well as a jukebox. Drink prices are super cheap especially for a downtown bar. They are known for their Bloody Mary’s with mix that is made in house. A favorite of Husker tailgaters! Tuesday and Friday nights are busy nights and a lot of fun to hang out and drink with anyone you happen to sit by. The bar is open 7 days a week at noon. Happy hour is 3-7 Monday through Friday and they have $2.50 domestics and wells. After 7 each night has it’s own drink special. Friday night the owner provides some sort of food around 5 that’s free. During football season home game days there is also food for tailgaters. The bar is probably the cleanest bar I have ever been in. It is obvious the owner cares about the bar and it’s business.

Taqueria Tex-Taco – Menu with Prices – 2864 Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd, Katy

Top of the morning my fellow Yelpers. So my wife and I decided this morning that we were in the mood for breakfast tacos. Yeah, we could have made our own but neither of us wanted to do it so we decided to head out for breakfast. We jumped on Yelp as usual and to our surprise, the Katy area has an array of breakfast taco’s spots. After looking at a few places, we decided on Taqueria Tex-Taco. We have driven past there 100 to times as the road that they sit off of is the road we take to get to I- 10. So let’s get to the food, I got a Randy Taco, Breakfast Burrito and a Jimmy Taco, wife had 3 Randy Taco’s…….folks the flavors are out of bounds! The moment that the flavor hits your pallet, boom goes the dynamite. We have had some pretty darn good breakfast taco’s and made some darn good ones but these right here are the truth and will blow your mind folks. I had the pleasure of being in the US Navy and was a West Coast Sailor who spent many weekends in Tijuana and these took me back to one of my favorite spots to get breakfast taco’s in northern Mexico. As for the decor, well it is basic but as I always say, “are you there to eat or are you there to live”! The staff are extremely friendly and somehow, they knew we were first timers. The tomatillo sauce that was recommended was outstanding. My only critique would be the red sauce. I tried it and it was okay, not bad but not great. Other than that the whole experience was pretty good. So if you are out and about in Katy looking for some authentic Tex-Mex for breakfast, stop by this place folks. You will be happy that you did. There are only 2 places that I will go to for breakfast taco’s in Houston, and now I can say, there are 3 places now! As always, thanks for reading, my fellow Yelpers.

Coronitas Night Club – Menu with Prices – 16940 Ella Blvd, Houston

Arirange Lounge – Menu with Prices – 2647 Fort Campbell Blvd, Clarksville

0/0 Where to start. This place could be called “charming” or “cozy” but honestly between the cockroaches, the disgusting human beings who come here, and the broken down cars in the parking lot I feel like somewhere between “crack house” and “bus station” are more accurate descriptions and like a bus station you don’t have to go far to find someone literally masturbating inside. The drinks are overpriced, and not by a little. If you sit next to the pool tables in the back you can hear the microwave used to “cook” the overpriced food through a “wall” that’s actually more like a thick piece of cardboard than a wall. The hallway between the pool room and the karaoke rooms is cluttered with old karaoke machines . I could honestly not recommend this place, between the cockroaches, the disgusting human garbage this bar seems to target as patrons, the overpriced drinks and food and the overall experience of the bar I’d avoid it you could spend half the money at another bar get twice as drunk and not get to see gross old men saying gross things to women, people masturbating in the back rooms, and cockroaches going about their business.

Turano Florida Bun, LLC – Menu with Prices – 151 Martin Brower Rd Suite 115, Orlando

Fulco’s Bar – Menu with Prices – 519 N Turnbull Dr, Metairie

Nice neighborhood bar that has gone through some ownership changes of late. They sometimes have complimentary food and always seem to have a warm happy greeting for new folks. During my last visit a lady that has been cooking on and off at this establishment was present and had lots of interesting tales to tell (she is right behind me in the photo of me scarfing down VERY delicious and spicy chicken mac ‘n cheese). I got some of my pals that are life long Metry residents to visit here that had never even heard of the place so it still seems to be a bit of an unknown mystery space even to folks that live as near to the location as around the Metry Road.

The Settlement – Menu with Prices – 3254 Bay Settlement Rd, Green Bay

Another Wisconsin Fish Fry Winner! Quite frankly this place is not the most impressive from the outside, but you can tell by the way the people pile in on a Friday Night that they have good food! Drinks were tasty and there were some beer specials. I think the Old Fashions were $5.50. After you have a drink (or 2) a waitress come by to take your order and when it’s ready they come and get you. The food will be on the table so you can sit right down and dig in. The potions are pretty large and the “cup” of soup is bigger than most bowls you would get at other restaurants. (We tried to order a bowl of soup and they talked us out of it… glad they did!). Prices of the food were on par or even on the lower side of most area fish fry’s. Our waiter and waitress were a married couple and they worked their ass off because they took care of the whole dinning area. Even though they were very busy they both took time to make sure we had everything we need and were happy with the food. There were some drawbacks. The bartenders were not very friendly… I would say even crabby. Not a good first impression. The place is cash only and it is tropical hot in there when it’s busy. If it’s warm outside be prepared to lose some water weight in sweat while eating. Actually very uncomfortable. But let’s be honest, it’s Wisconsin…. how many warm Friday nights are there!!

Tallyho Cocktail Lounge – Menu with Prices – 8479 E McDonald Dr, Scottsdale

The Tally Ho hasn’t changed a bit since it opened. Wait, that’s not exactly true. Back in the day, the bar was at the other end of the shopping center over by Casella’s. Sometime over the years the wooden door that was forbidden to be entered by minors moved to the other side of the center. So 2 years ago, a bunch of people I went to grade school with decided to finally find out what was behind the forbidden wooden door, and we’ve made it our go-to place to hang out every time I come back to town. It’s true, it’s strictly cash only, the decor is out of the 60s and 70s, and there is a core of neighborhood folks who hang out there. But that’s the charm of a dive bar. The drinks are cheap and strong. There’s absolutely zero pretense. The bartender won’t take any s–t, but she’s working her tail off and makes sure that everyone has what they need. If you want a scene, go to Old Town. If you want to have a drink, come here.

Krispy Donuts – Menu with Prices – 3403 Louetta Rd Ste E, Spring

Hooray! I get to be the first person to leave a review on this establishment. I happened to stumble upon this place while driving home. The owners of the donut shop are the sweetest human beings I’ve ever met. They were so happy and welcoming. I ordered a glazed donut, a chocolate glazed donut, and a sausage/egg/cheese croissant. They even warm up your croissant for you if you want. This has to be a new donut shop because I don’t see how there aren’t any reviews already made. The donuts were like a hybrid of Krispy Crème and Shipley’s donuts in my opinion. I took a bite into one of the donuts and the interior was as soft as a cloud. The one thing I truly appreciated from their donuts was that it was not overly sweet like most of the big chain donut shops. I highly recommend those who are close to give this mom and pop shop a try. I love and a huge supporter of mom and pop shops.

Plata’s Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2702 Shopko Dr, Madison

This review is for the restaurant Plata’s at the Bridges Golf Course, only, subscribing, as I do, to Mark Twain’s view of golf as “a walk, ruined.” I was looking for a good Friday Fish Fry, and Plata’s reeled me in hook, line, and sinker. The menu offers a good selection of fresh lakefish, and I chose the beer battered perch; my 7 pieces were nicely cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy within, and not swimming in a sea of fat when served. I overheard several diners around me praising their bluegill, walleye, cod, and whitefish. Soups are homemade, and an excellent side option, which I wish more restaurants would offer, was perfectly sauteed vegetables, in my case, squash, green beans, onion, red pepper, and mushrooms, a nice change from the ubiquitous variations on the potato. Service, which was friendly, prompt, and attentive, began with delivery of a freshly baked mini-loaf of bread, which was good in its own right, plus a very good creamy cole slaw, and I washed everything down with a very reasonably priced pint of draught beer from the bar. TVs scattered across the room featured both The Golf Channel and an MLB game, and the windows offered relaxing views of the golf course as an alternative. A $2 senior discount applies to entrees after 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Taco Tuesdays are offered, Happy Hour runs from 4 until closing, lunch specials are offered daily, and dinner specials are offered Sundays thru Fridays after 4. All told, dinner cost $18.00, inclusive, and I look forward to returning and trying the other fish items soon.
