It’s been probably 2 decades since I last stopped in for a sandwich here. It hasn’t changed much. It is a small convenience store in a strip mall that has a deli in the corner. It was already a neighborhood institution when I moved here in 93. The meats are Boars Head. Both the woman making my sandwich and the man who took my money were pleasant. Not as many frills and options as the chain sandwich places but it was a little cheaper and just as good.

Ragonese Italian Imports Menu with Prices 409 New Scotland Ave, Albany

Absolutely delicious subs! Stopped by for an American Mix sub on this lovely Saturday. My sub was monstrous! They must’ve put a pound and a half of meat on it Perfectly cooked and seasoned Boars Head roast beef. Delicious turkey and ham(both Boars Head as well) and very flavorful American cheese(did I mention it was Boars Head as well lol). All these delicious meats on an awesome, fresh sub roll made for one of the best deli subs I may have every had Also had a side of their pasta salad which was also delicious. It had katimala olives and fresh feta cheese(I believe) in it with colored rotini pasta. Yum. Anyway this place is the quintessential Italian Deli/Import Store with a very decent selection of everything Italian as far as food goes. I will definitely be back and I suggest stopping by if your in the neighborhood.

Phil’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 8178 Mission Boulevard, Riverside

Okay so I don’t know what the huge fuss is about but I ordered here and the sandwich was ahh. She gave me some recommendations which was good because it was my first time there. but then she starts asking me if I want a cookie and a smoothie and all this extra stuff and by this point my ordered had gone up to 27 dollars â? anyways place seems really cluttered and the that’s usually a sign of someone that is hoarding . And it’s a red flag for me that means them pushing product that might be out dated to save money is super high. I will say I continued and ate my sandwich anyways was good. Pesto was good it came as a combo so I chose a water bottle. Honestly for two sandwiches I don’t believe the price should be that high. I don’t know if the reviews are mainly friends or co workers but I don’t think they are accurate at all. If you want a decent sandwich with good meat and value I recommend sprouts! I spend less then ten bucks there and they use good meats at selected stores some carry boars head meats or diets and Watson’s my favorite and yes they have a full deli. Yah for less then ten bucks I get a bag of chips and a nice cold drink.

Whistle Stop – Menu with Prices – 5626 134th Pl SE # A, Everett

Came in here for some sandwiches after the park with the kids and wow is it a great find. Walking into the shop it reminds me of a convenience store but everywhere you look are beers and cigars. There is a little counter area for sandwiches and boy do they make a mean sandwich. They can do custom made sandwiches or you can opt for one of their menued ones. I opted for the turkey avocado and it was da bomb. Loaded with quality turkey (they use Boars Head which is good quality) and havarti with fresh lettuce, tomato and onions. The lettuce is green leafy Romain and not the cheap white iceberg variety. Do note the sandwich comes with mayo and a whole grain/Dijon mustard so let them know if you don’t want sauce. You can order a half sandwich or a whole (whole is definitely sharable). It comes with a bag of chips. My wife and I each grabbed a whole sandwich and both came out to just over $17. That is a good deal! And the quality you get beats nice sit down joints.

Kâ??s Chicken, Fish and Burgers – Menu with Prices – 3901 Troost Ave, Kansas City

This place is great for those living in Manheim Park, Squier Park, or Hyde Park as well as those living near Paseo as there are hardly any food options within walking distance. I’m always weary of convenience store food options, but being two blocks from my apartment while I’m carless, I figured I’d waste my money and review the new business so maybe others would know about it and help a locally owned business on Troost thrive. It is a simple classic diner menu without any frills or fuss. I got a double cheeseburger combo that I would compare to the greasy late night food you can get in college campuses. For me- this is good! I was worried about the quality of the meat but I even ate some of the burger without any breading or condiments and it was quality meat. They use those orange fajita fries you can buy at the grocery store in the freezer section but I really liked them. For $6 I got a big burger, fries, and a 16oz drink. I think that’s a steal and I’ll definitely be back. No gas, but there’s also an entire convenience store attached as well to get other items while you’re out.

Corner Deli Menu with Prices 100 Wolf Rd, Albany

I worked here when it was called “The Deli” for about as long as it was open. It was myself, our delivery driver, and the 2 owners. We were definitely a tight knit crew! We had the best food ever! Our sandwiches were the best around, along with our homemade salads and our daily “hot specials”. We used the best cold cuts,(boars head) the best rolls, and had a great deal of passion for sandwich making. Our customers were loyal, and became family! I wish that not only was I older and wiser, but that I was in a better spot financially in my life when the owner passed and the wife put “The Deli” up for sale. It is now being operated under the name, “The Corner Deli”. They do an “ok” job, but changed too much, their prices are pretty high, and they never seem to be open when I’m in the area. And now 10 years later, I am currently looking to purchase my own Deli to continue what Mike had created! I learned a great deal from him, working side by side with him for years. I have the original menu and all of Mike’s recipes, and a passion for sandwich making like no other! Hopefully I will make him proud! RIP Mike ?

Tucker’s Market & Deli – Menu with Prices – 3690 Newton St, Torrance

Torrance Food Crawl #252 Tucker’s Market is a small store with a sandwich business on the side. I lived in the Walteria area for a couple of decades and would sometimes take a walk and have a sandwich here. Usually the sandwiches were very good but sometimes the bread would be dry. But that was years ago. Today I had a Ruben sandwich, not a Reuben, a Ruben. It came with a marbled bread and lots of corned beef. The meats here are all Boars Head brand so the quality is always good and the corned beef was no exception today. The sandwich also contained sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. Quality and taste wise the sandwich was excellent. The corned beef was the highlight but everything else perfectly complemented the meat. The sandwiches are wrapped in a thick aluminum foil so they travel well. Or, you can eat at one of four tables that are out in front of the store. As far as the rest of the market is concerned the main push is alcoholic drinks, but having said that I can only judge the sandwiches here from my dozen plus trips here over the years as all I’ve bought here are the sandwiches and the occasional soda.

The Fat Butcher Deli Menu with Prices 1022 Walton Way, Augusta

Wow! Now I am a girl that likes a sandwich and this place is amazing! I came here whit a CoFriend-Worker and she explained to me that she usually ordered the Italian Stallion. So I went with her recommendation. Boy am I glad that I did. The owner and his wife work as a cute well oiled team, even though it was her first day joining him – you wouldn’t have been able to tell unless she said. He explained the two meat sizes of the sandwich as well as the bread choices. The sandwich came super quickly and with all the added fixins like black olives, evoo drizzle and oregano – if that is your style. The drinks are endless to wet your whistle as you consume the sandwich masterpiece. All the meat is boars head brand which are notorious for being flavorful and great sandwich meats. I enjoyed this place so much i told my husband we would have to come back with our babies just to have a wonderful bite to eat.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken – Menu with Prices – 2610 Delk Rd SE, Marietta

I read an article on a site claiming Krispy Krunchy Chicken was the best fried chicken chain. I noticed there was a KKC in a Shell gas station convenience store near where I live. Since I have a fondness for Brother’s convenience store fried chicken in NOLA I decided to check this place out. It’s pretty delicious. The woman working behind the counter was super friendly. I got two pieces of dark meat fried chicken, it comes with a biscuit and she offered a sauce. The chicken has a great crispy crust that has a nice cajun seasoning on it. The meat is super tender with a little bit of cajun seasoning flavor. The biscuit is coated with honey so it’s delightfully sweet but not overly sweet. I didn’t get sides this time but will be back to check those out soon.

Fiorello Importing Luigi’s Deli Menu with Prices 1182 Western Ave, Albany

I had to check out Fiorello after seeing Nancy S’s photo of the Italian Mix sub, and it did not disappoint. They have severed the relationship with Boars Head, purveyor of bland products, and now feature Kohler (not the toilet people presumably) and a variety of other names. You can now choose from a 6 inch or a 12 inch for marginally more money, so as always the strategy is to order the 12 inch and save the second half for another meal. The meats on the Italian Mix aren’t particularly interesting so I would try the prosciutto or sopressata next time; they cost no more than the Italian Mix. It’s a small Italian deli with a few desserts and salads on offer as well as the sandwiches. Not worth a special trip, but a good choice if you’re in the neighborhood.

Wayland Bakery – Menu with Prices – 138 Wayland Ave, Providence

Wayland Bakery is a classic old-fashioned, vaguely Italian bakery. What it lacks in the frills of, say, Pastiche or a certain “snuggery,” it makes up for in variety. I had a hard time choosing from the selection of bread, cookies, cake slices, fruit bars, eclairs, cream puffs, cheesecake and other sweet treats. There was a case full of adorable frosted sugar cookies, which would be fun to bring into class for a kid’s birthday in lieu of cupcakes. My tiramisu cannoli ($2.75) was a little bit soggy on the bottom since I came later in the day, but it was pretty tasty. The coffee cream was full of flavor, almost to the point of being overpowering. The chocolate-dipped shell was a nice touch. The woman working at the counter was very friendly and eager to help. There’s an ATM in the store, but there’s also no credit card minimum so it’s just for your convenience. Prices here are very reasonable: I didn’t try a wrap, but they’re only $6! A sandwich combo with chips and a cookie is also under $6, making this possibly the best lunch deal in the area. I’ll have to investigate and get back to you on that. I don’t think I would travel over to Wayland Square to come here, especially with Silver Star so close, but when I’m in the area I’ll definitely stop in for dessert!

Stop and go mini mart / halal food – Menu with Prices – 136-45 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing

(TL;DR – It used to be amazing, but their disregard to ingredient freshness and short inventory that does not match with their diverse menu made them drop in quality) About ten months ago, I wrote a review about how amazing this deli was. Despite it’s small size and humble exterior, the food they served was fresher than their chain counterpart, Subway. They also had more variety in their sandwich options and their drinks, and they had a rewards system that was very fair. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. Their drink options are still diverse and they still offer the standard convenience store products, such as cigarettes or gum. But their main value of selling quality sandwiches unfortunately is not there. Their rewards system of getting a free sandwich after purchasing nine dissipated about a month after the store opened, and the quality of food went downhill since then. For one, even though their menu still has the same amount of options as they first opened, most of them seem to be out of stock all the time. Each time I see a sandwich I would like to have, I would find out that they didn’t have that kind of meat available. I would have to go through four or five different options to find one that they had, which is usually something really basic like plain turkey. The quality of food also degraded. While I applauded them for their freshly cut vegetables and well-preserved topping, just one look shows that a lot of their food has been left out for at least a few days. Their bacon is dry, their deli meats have a funky after taste, and their eggs are clearly processed (I wanted to get an egg and cheese once with a sunny side egg only to find that they don’t use fresh eggs. Instead, they use these dry omlette half disks that just look unappealing). As for the freshly cut vegetables, it’s obvious that they have gone stale from their lack of crunch. Their picks are still juicy from my lack experience though. I know this place can get it’s act together, since it was once one of the best delis during its debut. I would recommend that they focus back to what made them unique, which was fresh ingredients and high variety. At the very least, if they choose not to get more of the ingredients on their menu, they should shorten it so that their inventory becomes more manageable. But no matter what, they should find a way to get back to fresh ingredients that really make a difference.

Krispy Crunchy Chicken – Menu with Prices – 1475 Dover Rd, Clarksville

It’s inside the Sudden Service gas station/convenience store. I read an article on USA Today about this chain, Krispy Krunchy Chicken, with over 2000 locations over the U.S., mainly in gas stations or convenience stores. It is surprisingly good, with a crisp, yet light and flaky skin. I could just barely make out the cajun seasoning. It’s not very spicy at all. For a quick fried chicken fix, I’m coming back here. I like Popeye’s, but it’s waaayyy farther from me.
