My business was located down the block from this Maryland’s. I had just relocated to GA and heard that their chicken was deeelicious. So, one day I walked down to the opposite corner of the block to buy some for myself and mother-n-law (MIL). I bit into it and … well it was not seasoned well. I was verrrry disappointed. So, being new in town I wondered what all the hoopla was about. My 81 year old August born MIL said it used to be much better years before. I tried them again several times after and learned that it is hit and miss here as it relates to the food and customer service. Depending on who’s cooking (employee turnover is high) and who’s at the counter it can be a good or not so good experience. My opinion regarding the food was confirmed one day as I was at the counter waiting for my order. I overheard a regular customer (older gentleman) and apparent friend of the establishment ask “who’s cooking today … because the chicken is good today”. The person at the counter gave him a name then agreed.

Happy Chicken – Menu with Prices – 119 Bloomfield Ave, Newark

The food is great, however: I went there today, right after work to purchase 6 empanadas and a sausage with tostones. I’m placing my order and the person is getting my order together but, is very much involve in a conversation with a fellow co-worker and another customer. I had asked where are the straws and please give me two of their spicy sauce. This Employee, gave me a look, like really, acknowledged what I ask for and immediately continued the conversation with other two people. I felt so uncomfortable, I was afraid to ask for anything else. This employee, then proceeded to charge me for the items. I paid with my credit card, he gave me a pen and the Receipt to sign. The pen wasn’t working, he was so busy with his conversation, he did not see me struggling when trying to sign the Receipt. I put the pen down, and used my own pen. At that point, I just said thank you and left the place. I’m in the car now, one block away, I started to take the food out to eat when I realized, the employee only gave me 4 empanadas. Really! I went back, I told the employee, I asked you for 6 you gave me 4 instead. Oh, I understood you ask for 4. I only charged you for 4. Can I have two more please. We have one left, can you wait for the new batch? I said never mind, good bye. What I should of said, if you would of focused doing your job, instead of the conversation, I would of had my ordered filled correctly. SMH!!!

Hip Hop Fish & Chicken – Menu with Prices – 1350 Mahan Dr unit f, Tallahassee

I phoned up there today to pick up an order of chicken. They gave me a pick up number and told me it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. I arrived at the drive thru 15 minutes after placing my order. When I drove up to the window, an employee was on the phone. A couple minutes later a second employee went behind the counter from the front. In another 2 minutes a 3rd employee was behind the counter. They were filling napkins, refilling the iced tea and lemonade dispensers, helping the 3 customers I saw inside. I sat at the drive thru window for 10 minutes without ANYONE coming over to open the window. I phoned them. I asked if my order was ready. She went over to the counter where my chicken has been sitting this whole time and said, “Yes, it was ready.” I told her that I was here and sitting at the window. We hung up. I waited 2 more minutes. So I sat at Hip Hop drive thru for 12 minutes with my order waiting on the counter, and no one came over to give me my order and take my money. All this after having phoned them 15 minutes before I got there. It was absolutely not busy. 3 customers. 2 cars in the parking lot. This was a bizarre, rude experience. TERRIBLE customer service. I work with the public and I will tell everyone I know, to steer clear of that place. What a awful way to treat your customers. It really is a shame because I like supporting local businesses. ?

Nicely’s Jamaican Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 301 W 4th St, Wilmington

It’s a hole in the wall, on a corner, in the hood. Clean establishment that’s painted with the JA flag colors so you can’t miss it. I didn’t have high expectations of finding a Caribbean spot in boring, plain Delaware, BUTTTT this jerk chicken is very high on my list of favorite jerk chicken spots. The employee (maybe owner?) was so kind and he definitely gave me that “at home” feeling that I like to get when going to Caribbean spots. The food was excellent. I had jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage and plantain. And that hot sauce that he put on the jerk chicken was so savory. This place is on point and its a large portion for the money. Can’t go wrong.

WHOS Gluten Free – Menu with Prices – 80 Mallory Ave, Jersey City

My mom was diagnosed with celiac in the ice age. Okay, maybe not the ice age, but she was diagnosed by Dr. Haas. Anyway, I told her I was taking her to a gluten free cafe and she got SO excited. When I looked up the distance, I could have sworn it said only 2 miles away and we were like, oh, no big deal, we’ll walk… well, 4 miles later we finally got to Whos Gluten Free. Opps. The staff at Whos Gluten Free is Fantastic. We walked in at 3:30 and the staff informed us the kitchen was closed because they close at 4. Oh. They had some broccoli soup still. We bought a whole bunch of goodies and the soup. The soup was delicious, nice and hot and with gluten free croutons! The goodies. Let’s forget about the gluten free part for a second. That nutella sandwich cookie. wholy Whos! (Yeah, I went there). That cookie was amazing. This is also the FIRST time in my LIFE I could share my desserts with my mom. Everything we got was so good. It didn’t even taste gluten free! The staff was so friendly, nice and accommodating. My mom can’t wait to go back! She already has her next “to try” items picked out. She wanted to go back the next day, but she said she would settle for at least a few days. And not to worry, next time we plan to be there bright and early, and not right before closing time.

HUMMUS Bowls | Healthy, Mediterranean, Greek, Vegan food and restaurant near me – Menu with Prices – 10895 S Eastern Ave Ste 100, Henderson

The concept is great. If you’ve ever been to a Cava (Mediterranean fast-casual chain all over the US), this is pretty much the same thing on a slightly smaller scale. Portions are large, plenty of veggie and meat options for everyone, and relatively healthy depending on how you customize your bowl/wrap. Hummus is the Chipotle of Mediterranean – nothing fancy, but solid nonetheless. I’ve been here multiple times and the only reason I’d give it 3 stars as opposed to 4 or 5 is because it’s incredibly inconsistent. Every time you go in, your bowl or wrap really depends on the employee they have behind the counter (most are high school/college kids). Some are more experienced and others are definitely not. At times I’ve gotten a great bowl/wrap and on the flip side, have gotten some pretty bad ones. On one occasion, they were trying to make my order so quickly that they accidentally scooped in a giant glob of garlic sauce and pickles (I didn’t ask for either of these ingredients). Overall, great concept and solid food, but they should do a better job in terms of consistency. You’ll get a different bowl each time, depending on who’s working the counter.

Terranova Bakery – Menu with Prices – 691 E 187th St, The Bronx

Okay let me tell you quick, I love this bakery I live one block away, this is my place to go for bread, raviolis and also pizza dough! I always come here. But this review is not about the products because I hope you all know that it’s GREAT! Now my two stars go to their CUSTOMER SERVICE… I’m not sure why but this girls are ALWAYS in so type of rude/don’t care mood, like seriously everytime I come it’s like they don’t even want me here..anyways the big downfall was this past thanksgiving day, not sure if they were mad that they were working on that day, or that I came in when they were eating breakfast…but I went in with high spirits and said Hi, they got up from the corner they were eating and I said happy thanksgiving, they just gave me this look and NO hi, or anything, okay so now I asked one of the girls if they have baguettes she told me only this… whatever, I said okay so can I please get 2 of those, and i asked her PLEASE if she could cut the bread for me, which she wasn’t too happy about it, she gives me this look, take the bread and go slice it, there she goes NO COURTESY, no smile, no okay or of course at all, but then I see a door opens and some Italian man comes out which I believe was the owner or person in charge because this girls did a 180° change of actitud, as long the man was there, this girl was with a different face, asked me if I need anything else, and with a more pleasant face and gave me my change and said thank you to me, I could tell her changed to a nice behavior was because her boss were there! I’m such a straightforward person I manage an office in a venue with 4 floors day and night answer phones and with more than 150 staff, I know what customer service is! I kinda wanted to approach the man and ask him if he was the owner and so on, but since it was thanksgiving I just took my bread said thank you and left. I mean you can’t have a nice place with rude, careless and unpleasant staff. Ok I’m done!

Izakaya Hachi – Menu with Prices – 3033 Bristol St D, Costa Mesa

##Although many foods taste decent, the customer experience was very bad with overpricing and employee’s authoritative attitude. ## The Japanese menu was misleading – for assorted sashimi, it can be read as they would serve oyster and selection of seasonal fish. When the employee delivered the food, there was no oyster, just commodity fish available anywhere in the US (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, octopus, squid and tiny frozen crab meat -$40). The first employee didn’t explain anything about what they served and left. I then called another employee and asked about oyster; she said I was misleading the menu and oyster is indeed not included. OK, fine.. but what about seasonal fish? I mentioned that sashimi looks too normal and pointed out that yellowtail and salmon are not good season now (and others also). She said “this is our style and we’ve been doing like this always” and left… The manager later came to my table and explained that they cannot always guarantee seasonal fish as sometimes it will be too expensive. I then said that this is clearly different from what is explained and the sample picture on menu and said I wanted to return the dish, but he said they cannot refund as they already made it. I then asked them to stop cooking subsequent foods and just get us check. They said they are already cooking and cannot cancel anything…. No apologies from anyone throughout the conversation. I assume they just put whatever the fish left for the day and thought that customers would not understand the value/type of fish and overcharged $40. Unfortunately, I have good knowledge about fish and clearly saw their intent… after we left the place, I found they even didn’t decorate the food in the same way with what other people were uploading pics on yelp… Probably the worst Japanese restaurant in terms of customer experience. Will never come back.

Kuru Kuru Sushi Menu with Prices 11 Bellwether Way, Bellingham

As a regular I see the interaction between boss and staff members quite often. Last time I was in, the female boss (Judy) yelled at an employee to where it was uncomfortable to watch. Now I’m in again and what do I see? The same woman yelling again at an employee. I get it, it’s a business and it needs to run smoothly but there is a difference between constructive criticism and simply being outright disrespectful. As a parent it scares me to think that my childs boss could yell at them in such a way for trying their hardest and doing their best. Also can’t help to notice the turnover rate there. Treat your employees better, and maybe they’d wanna keep working for you.

Ideal Diner – Menu with Prices – 1314 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis

I really enjoyed breakfast here! It’s such a unique spot with great food and service. I wouldn’t not recommend going with a group of 4 or more because all they have for seating is a counter. Legit just one long counter. The flat top is in front of you and everything is made before your eyes. Depending on when you go, you might be waiting for a bit and after you are done eating there is likely people ready to fill your seat. But it’s worth it. Everything is great and a simple satisfying traditional breakfast. In my group of 3 we each ordered something different then split the pancakes. After eating we agreed we all could have just order a bunch of pancakes and that would have been perfect because they were so so so so good! Maybe a side of bacon or two. ? Highly recommend stopping in!

La Parrilla – Menu with Prices – 5080 Riverside Dr, Macon

We would give it 10 stars if we could. We travel a lot and are Mex food junkies. Excellent chips, thin, crispy and warm. They have several salsas, depending on ones choice. The margaritas were superb and very delicious. I requested cheese and spinach enchiladas, as they weren’t on the menu. No problem, whatever you want!! Plus our darling waitress didnt miss a beat. This place set a new benchmark for excellence. They have been in business many years and its easy to see why. Dont miss this excitement dining experience.

MOR Bakery and Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2018 S 1st St #102, Milwaukee

I had such high hopes (and sure, expectations), after seeing MOR previewed in Wisco Foodie. I am a staunch advocate for local over chains and want the little guy to succeed. MOR has the location just right. Perfectly designed and sighted on the lot, the windows and expansive porch are inviting and suited for the long range growth this block will experience. Said simply, it’s a cool locale and a cool place. Any business at this prime spot is primed for success. Now the less than stellar parts: the experience of a quick grab and go of hopefully delectable delights was a miss. At 7am in the morning, I’d expect prompt, organized if not maybe a little frenetic level of service. What I was greeted with was an odd dance between three staff members, none knowing quite who was going to do what. It shouldn’t take 5 minutes to figure out how to ring up three pieces of bakery. But it did. Perhaps less forgivable is the one-two knockout miss of a nearly $5 diminutive piece of cheesecake bar and same priced carrot cake cupcake that were both ho hum. For these prices, I expect a mouth watering experience. I was unfortunately underwhelmed. The highlight, beyond the well done interior and exterior presentation, was the reasonably priced and well executed brownie. Moist, chocolatey goodness. Without this high point, I’d probably not consider a repeat visit. I’m sure I’ll stop back in a few months to see what’s transpired. Maybe an off day on my stop. It’s hard to imagine the concept not thriving in such a future proofed location. I’m hopeful and eager for MOR In the future.

Paleterias Tropicana At The Med – Menu with Prices – 2160 W 39th Ave, Kansas City

Wow. Where to begin? I am a student at the Med Center and I used to go to Tropicana all the time to get food before and after class. The food is extremely hit or miss and its really frustrating, so I stopped going as frequently. I usually get a breakfast burrito with chorizo and ask for it to be grilled. Half the time, the employee hands me a non-grilled breakfast burrito that still has frozen shredded cheese inside of it. The breakfast burritos are supposed to come with scrambled egg inside of them, and twice I have gotten hard-boiled egg just so they could get rid of their extra. The customer service is also very poor. My most recent visit, the employee was bringing me my burrito and dropped it on the floor. Normally, the employee would offer to make a new one. Instead, she handed it to me and said that it was fine because it was wrapped in foil. This situation was laughable to me because knowing the specific employee, it was expected of her to do. A different time with the same employee, she handed me a sample of ice cream (That I did not ask for). The next time I came in to Tropicana, she accused me of not paying for the ice cream that I had ordered. I have had more bad than good experiences at Tropicana and I am done spending my money there.
