I’m a huge seafood fan. My momma is from Nayarit so we grew up putting shrimp on everything, making homemade ceviche and cocktails and not to mention eating oysters as kid (with lots of lemon and hot sauce). So I am a huge fan of marisco spots. Especialista those who rep Nayarit! I usually go to Las Islitas or La Costa but my besty suggested this place. We showed up around 7:30 a Thursday night and the place was pretty empty. It’s located on Oak St, south of La Mina. The place looks a bit run down so don’t expect it to be as “upscaled” as La Costs or Las Islitas. They sat is near the bar which has a flat screen so it’s convenient if you like sports. The special for the night was the tostada Chaka, it includes ceviche shrimp, boiled shrimp, octopus, tomatoes, onions, cucumber and their homemade salsa on it. My friend ordered it. I decided on the shrimp empanadas and I Also ordered a shrimp empanada prepared. The difference between them is the prepared one includes cabbage, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. I usually eat them plain with sauce but I figured I’d try one prepared. The order came out freshly fried. BOMB! I definitely enjoyed the prepared one more and wouldn’t order them plain ever again here. They have a Chipotle mayo type of sauce for the empanadas which was delicious! I ordered a margarita and it was delicious! My besty ordered a michelada and she enjoyed it as well. So the food gets 4 stars for sure! But the service…mmm they can work on that for sure. Like I mentioned, the place was empty and yet they didn’t come check on us once. I wanted a water and never got a chance to order one until we had finished our dinner, when they dropped off the bill and picked up our empty plates. Although they are friendly I just wish they were more attentive. It’s definitely a place I’d come again for the empanadas though, maybe to go though.

Splash Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 676 Mt Prospect Ave, Newark

I heard about this restaurant thru a friend who tried it herself . All I can say is that since I’ve tried the food , My husband and I have eaten from there consistently at least once a week . The fish soup is simply delicious , there is no fancy garnish to the soup – it’s given to you with a lime wedge and hot sauce (that’s all you need) , you can add a side of tostenes (fried plantain ) for $1 . I’ve tried the fish soup and shrimp soup , along with the shrimp empanadas or crab empanadas . All items have been equally delicious . There might be sometimes someone outside asking for money – don’t let it deter you on a quest for delicious soup! They are normally busy , so when you walk in you may or may not get acknowledged right away but just wait for a few minutes and they’ll notice you and take your order. They are a cash only place!

Mariscos El Cachanilla – Menu with Prices – 4127 West Ln, Stockton

It’s hard finding good Mariscos in Stockton. After hearing good things about the food decided to give this place a try. Food: I ordered an empanada with pulpo and shrimp, and a tostada with shrimp ceviche. My mom ordered an empanada with shrimp and a small shrimp coctel. They don’t skimp on any shrimp or octopus so that’s good, but they can step it up with the flavor. Empanadas are crisp and flaky, served hot. When we asked if the empanadas are one single or several, and if it’s large the lady just pointed to the picture. Ok that tells us everything. So if you order it is a very large empanada closer to the size of a small calzone. It’s served with a salad and rice. The rice isn’t worth the calories as it tastes like nothing. Service: Terrible service. The ladies at the front let us wait until they could be bothered to take our orders. No greetings, no eye contact, and she couldn’t even answer simple questions about the food. I didn’t even know if she was ready to take my order as she acted like she was doing something avoiding eye contact at all costs. Being the first time I’ve ever gone I had a few questions as I didnt want to over order. Ordering in Spanish didn’t help get any more answers, so may as well not even ask. The only decent service was the cook/bus man who helped clean the tables. He brought the rest of our food to our tables and was kind. Dunno what crawled up the lady’s butt, but she shouldn’t be working in service if she’s that unfriendly. Maybe the only way to order is take the food to go, because it’s sh!t service when it’s empty, couldn’t imagine how much worse it can get. I’ll still be looking for good Mariscos in Stockton .

The Original Marini’s Empanada House – Menu with Prices – 3522 S Mason Rd #100, Katy

The empanadas I ordered today for take-out were so average I think I’m being generous by giving them 3 stars. Meat empanadas are my favorite of them all (and I’m from Argentina) but the ones I just tried from Marini’s had no meat flavor at all. They strong sauce and condiment eclipsed the rest of the flavors to the point where I couldn’t tell what the other ingredients of the empanada were. The humita empanadas (corn and cheese) were decent, better than the meat ones. I’m highly disappointed. I was happy that I had found foods that taste like home, but these empanadas don’t taste Argentine at all. If anything, they’re so spicy I’d think they were trying to make a Tex-Mex fusion. The bottom line is, if you want real Argentine empanadas, this is not my recommended spot for you. If you still decide to try Marini’s, make sure you visit the Westheimer location, as their products are slightly better.

Big Poppas Empanadas – Menu with Prices – 2324 N Miami Ave, Miami

I have had my fair share of empanadas. They’re tasty, easy to eat on the go, and they come in a variety of tried and true combinations. Big Poppas takes that last concept and flips it on its head. I was able to order all the custom empanadas I never knew I needed lol I came at 1 am on a Friday night. Took me awhile to figure out what combo i wanted. I basically combined my two favorites chicken (really well seasoned) and plantanos. I added some onion and BOOM my favorite empanada ever was born. I think the guy that was working there was the owner. He kinda looked like the logo lol. Either way he was mad cool. It was a great late night eats to a night out in wynwood.

1912 Brewing Company – Menu with Prices – 2045 N, Forbes Blvd #105, Tucson

I came here for the Beer & Empanada pairing. I enjoyed the vibe of this place, but TBH this spot is a little out of the way for me since my hood is a bit further east/north. But, I dig that you can get a beer and Tucson Tamale at the same time! The service was a bit slow, but we did have a table of 6ish people. I enjoyed the empanadas and the beer pairings. I actually really enjoyed the Stout (didn’t think I would) and the Gose. I was surprised since I am usually an IPA lover- I found theirs to be super good but too hoppy for my palette that night. I am not sure this would be my new spot given the location – but I enjoyed the little event and trying out a new bar!

PUNJABI DHABA Menu with Prices 2546 S Union Ave, Bakersfield

My experience with Indian food is admittedly limited; I’ve only eaten at Indian restaurants in the SF Bay Area. But I know what I like and I really enjoyed everything we ordered from Punjabi Dhaba! The man who took my order was so kind and patient. I had done some menu research the night before my visit so I thought I knew what I wanted. I’d never heard of kadi pakoda before so I wanted to try it. When I ordered it, he asked if I knew what it was. I told him that Google told me it’s fried onions in a creamy sauce ? he then proceeded to diagram it for me and explain the various regional differences on how it’s prepared in India and how he prepares it here. I was sold and even more excited to try it! Tl;dr here’s our order. Service is just as wonderful as the food. Samosa chaat was a journey of flavor and texture and color that only ended when the bowl was empty. Mix paratha with the raita to cool it down is *chef’s kiss* wonderful Chole masala chickpeas are so tender like dreamy little clouds but even prepared mild, this was a little too spicy for my weak tastebuds Chicken tikka masala comes with a generous portion of chicken! And the sauce is amazing. We took this food to go and got fries from another restaurant before eating lunch in a park. Long story short, fries taste amazing in the tikka masala sauce. Kadi pakoda is different from anything I’ve had before. The sauce is a little tangy and I suspect this is because it’s yogurt based and not cream based like the other curries. It’s a refreshing balance to the other flavors. Rice was perfectly cooked and spiced. Roti just as delicious as everyone has said before ?

Panaderia Tlaquepaque Menu with Prices 2300 S Chambers Rd, Aurora

Turns out this is the closest panaderia to our place, which came in handy one night when we had a craving for some pan dulce. Much to our pleasure (and no less surprise), this place was open late into the evening! The inside of the store itself is not that impressive (somewhat dark and dingy), but the selection was pan was fantastic. We of course picked up a few pieces of our old favorites (conchas, marranos, and empanadas) in addition a few new things we had never tried. The palmera was unbelievably buttery, flaky, and and crispy. We also tried cajetas (caramel empanadas), which were AMAZING. We grabbed nearly a dozen pan dulces for only a few dollars. Next time I’ll have to try their custard empanadas!

Lek’s Taste of Thailand – Menu with Prices – 5421 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery

My father and I were driving through town and stopped in due to their high reviews. We absolutely enjoyed everything. The restaurant was full and looked like they had quite a few regulars. Service was prompt and wait staff were very friendly. We ordered and the food was brought to the table quickly. I ordered the red curry, medium spicy with chicken and Thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The chicken was very tender and I was impressed with how large the chunks of white meat were. My father had the basil with beef and very much enjoyed the flavor and consistency of the brown sauce. We also ordered two cups of the coconut soup with shrimp and were so impressed at the freshness of the shrimp. The soup had amazing tangy flavor and each cup came with three large shrimp! Worth the money for sure. 10/10 would recommend.

Llego El Sabor – Menu with Prices – 18505 NW 75th Pl Unit 123, Hialeah

As a food enthusiast and Dominican myself, I couldn’t resist the hype that a viral video threw at this restaurant. My family and I went to check it out and see how authentic it was to our roots and such… I even called my cousin up and told him I was heading to the spot in which he replied “it used to be very popping and delicious but lately it’s not the best Dominican food around anymore.” I didn’t heed his warning and decided I would make my own judgment on such things. Upon entering, it was a very spacious, yet empty, restaurant and we were greeted quite nicely. The young lady took our order by memory (not fond of this method) and we ordered 3 chimis, mangu with pork, two sides of fries, two empanadas and a mamey shake (my grandmother’s specialty). We received our empanadas and the deep fried dough was delicious. The inside was quite good as it had bits of fried cheese and salami but it lacked in the sense that it was too dry. I enjoyed it regardless and the ketchup/mayo sauce mix was great (something I do at home too). Well, the chimis came out and the patty was dry (at least for my taste) but the buns were delicious!!!! My mom said “just like in DR!” WELL… The disappointment that happened was that the young lady left her shift early and forgot about our fries, and we were done and they hadn’t come out. My mother also mentioned that the pork had too much oregano (not a traditional Dominican seasoning) and the mangu wasn’t the best she’s had. Pork was burnt to bits unfortunately. Overall the flavors weren’t true Dominican but more so a fusion of Colombian x Dominican. The other lady gave us a complimentary desert on the house because we did not receive our fries. Customer service is excellent! But the food is more on the 3 star (perhaps we were too picky since this restaurant supposedly is 100% D.R.) Empanadas were good but you can find great ones for half the price anywhere else in Miami!

Drunken Oyster Menu with Prices 7606 SW 45th Ave Ste 100, Amarillo

I ate here when they first opened and was not impressed. We had a night out with friends and decided to try it again. It was amazing! We had the oyster sampler, which had oysters prepared 5 different ways, wifey- shrimp grits (Very tasty) and me-N’Awlins Fra Diavolo- Calamari, little necks, shrimp, crawfish, spicy basil tomato broth (dang good!) We also had drinks from the bar. If you’re a fan of Texas Tea, they make a GOOD ONE! Ashton, our server, was on top of his game. He was fun, able to joust with our quips and hold his own. He made the evening so much fun! There was a band, Tee Tuckness, which had a very complimentary sound for the evening. We so much enjoyed the time here and the cuisine.

Mami’s Empanadas – Menu with Prices – 2575 Cartwright Rd, Honolulu

Found this place through Yelp! From what Ive heard you can text Alex (the chef) to check on his hours (they change sometimes). He’s Super nice. He said in his text he’s always in the same location “Corner of Cartwright Rd and Poakalani St in Waikiki”. His number is 808-202-4920 We took an Uber there. Easy peasy. You can tell he really loves his job. Loves creating food and takes great pride in it. We tried all of the empanadas he had that night. We had The Colombian Beef and potato, Sofrito Chicken, Samosa, and Argentina Beef. I honestly couldn’t tell you which one we liked most, they were all incredible! I loved the unique flavors in each! He also had 4 different sauces we could dip our empanadas in. They didn’t need the sauce, but it definitely enhanced the experience! I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family when they come out here! Excellent!

J Crab House – Menu with Prices – 4807 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy E, Kissimmee

Fun fact about me. I LOVE SEAFOOD!!!!!! It was no surprise that this Louisiana girl was gonna look for some seafood where ever I visited ! You yelpers didn’t disappoint with this one. Man you all had it right! So I was on yelp of course looking for a great local spot to get some seafood and I stumbled upon a couple reviews on this spot. I told my husband last night we are eating here today! So we did! We arrived to a strip mall where this restaurant is located. It is very clean outside there is no loitering of any sorts. You approach the door and pull it doesn’t open at first and then I read the sign that if I didn’t RSVP to read the menu in the right of the door ( see photos ) we went in and we asked to be seated for 2! Now mind you there are about 6 tables and 3 were empty but we were told that these tables were reserved for patrons! I was a little taken back but none the less we ordered food to go (good thing the hotel wasn’t too too far) We ordered the shrimp that comes with 1 pound of skin on head off shrimp, a corn, and potato. We also ordered 1 pound of snow crabs that comes with a corn and a potato. We added a piece of sausage! He asked are you ok with peeling and de-veining your own shrimp? I replied I’m from Louisiana we peel our own seafood Man when I tell you it was sooooooo good and though I mentioned 1 pound each it was very filling and the sausage was the bomb.com it was Kielbasa and I had never had that. It did remind me of the andouille we eat in Louisiana. There was flavor in each shrimp and they were pretty big. Now the guy said that they were getting booked for tomorrow already…….hopefully my bro and sis in law will want some after I tell them it’s so good and will want to go Friday. I would go back but I would call ahead. The cost is only a tad more than that we pay for seafood in Louisiana that is prepared that way. If you are in Orlando, call or swing by! You will not be disappointed
