This is the kind of coffee + shop that cares about cultivating community. First time in today for a coffee and work and I was blown away by the friendly greeting and speedy delivery of my coffee which was perfect. I canâ??t drink dairy and there were so many alternative milk options. Itâ??s also my birthday so I shared with the world via IG that I was here and the sweetest lady working brought me over a piece of Vegan cake! Wow! Iâ??m not sure if they talked about the dairy free thing or not, but the gesture was enough to keep me coming back forever. Canâ??t wait for this to be my new spot. If you enjoy good coffee, creative aesthetic, and a friendly community – this is your place!

Kahiau’s Organic Sweet Treats And Crafts – Menu with Prices – 3712 S Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach

I’m totally not vegan (and don’t intend to be because I love chicken too much), but I have been slowly transitioning to a dairy-free lifestyle. I found out about this bakery/café from our local traffic lady’s instagram. I was like … whaaaat … vegan? Gluten-free? Pastries? My trying-to-be-healthier-but-still-want-to-eat-dessert self was like eyyyy, I gotta try this place out! Plus, I love supporting local businesses. My husband and I decided to check it out, and when we found it, we were like, man this is in the cut lol it was so cute inside though! We stopped by on a Saturday at around 3pm. One of the first things I noticed was their chalkboard ‘Welcome’ sign and menu (I got a friend who does chalkboards if ya’ll are interested!). The shelves behind the glass were nearly empty. One of the workers came out to greet us after she realized we were in there, and she apologized that there wasn’t much left. I told her that that was good! That means business was good. I was eyeballing the chocolate chip cookies and the coffee crumb cake the other lady just brought out anyway haha Ya’ll, I’ve tried to make vegan desserts before; although they were, uh, edible, they were just not good lol but LET. ME. TELL. YOU. Kahiau’s chocolate chip cookies were off the hook! I loved the semi-chewiness and yessss, it was so so delicious! A 6-pack of cookies was $5. Worth it! Go get some! My husband loved them also. As for the coffee crumb cake, I didn’t taste any coffee taste. It was quite moist and the crumbly part was great, but for some reason it lacked flavor for us. The icing they drizzled on top was good though! We’ll definitely be coming back though! I want to try their café food one day. They did tell us to come earlier before things run out!

Pop-a-Top: General Store – Menu with Prices – 201 SE Depot Ave, Gainesville

If you’ve never been to Pop-A-Top, I don’t know where you have been in Gainesville!! My favorite bodega, I love that I can always pop in here and find the best food, treats and drinks! The staff doesn’t always seem the most-upbeat or happiest to see you, but they sure make up for it in product! I’m not usually a baked goods kinda girl, but the pastry selection here has become a traditional stopping point for me when downtown. As someone who is dairy-free, it’s amazing to have the delicious vegan options like Muffins, Banana Bread and so much more. Even when the pastry isn’t vegan, it still ends up leaving with me. ? There are also amazing meal options! Whether you opt for a fresh salad, sandwich or reheatable meal, it’s made by the same great folks responsible for the yummy food at The Top across the street! I absolutely love their Breakfast Burritos but wish so much that they offered a dairy-free/vegan option, seeing that so many of the GNV community is vegan and the delicious burritos are covered in cheese lol. (I’ve actually bought one and sat and picked out the cheese, I wanted it badly but didn’t want to be sick!) I am happy that they have brought back Cashew Cream Cheese! Love Pop-A-Top!

Lotta Studio – Menu with Prices – 911 Whalley Ave, New Haven

The vintage aesthetic and vibe of The Range is inspiring and comforting for working. If you join the membership you have access to a great shooting space, printers, and different types of workstations to fit your mood. This is not your typical office spot at all, but is instead filled with creative types. The coffee is some of the best (and best in the area) and surprisingly inexpensive! It’s worth stopping in at the espresso bar located at the entrance, which is open to the public with some seating and jewelry, cards, pottery, and gifts for sale as well. The Range feels like a welcoming, unpretentious neighborhood spot. I’m always happy when I stop in to see what new things are going on. It’s definitely become part of the pulse of Westville Village.

Judy’s Cakes – Menu with Prices – 8101 Old Kings Rd S #4, Jacksonville

We found this “Jewel” via the internet while we were two weeks out from our event we thought we could go local and get what we wanted and discovered that we could not and that the cake that we wanted would need to be professionally made! Did I say that we only talked to this lady on the phone and sent her pictures gave her our budget she asked my daughter which cake that she like the best and of the two cakes that we sent her what part was her favorite maybe a day or two later she sent me a quote and told me she would incorporate the two of what my daughter liked the best and make the cake we had no idea what this cake was going to look like until we picked it up about 12:15 on July 29th OMG!!!she did not disappoint us!!! It was everything that we could have hoped for it was just spectacular !we didn’t even cut the cake at the event it was just too pretty plus we had another cake (2bdays) however today we could the cake! and OMG Jacksonville you really have to check this young lady out Miss Judi from the bottom of our hearts we like to express our thanks to you for taking on this task a lot of people we talked to didn’t think they could pull it off but you did we had a great time and Trust I will never forget what you have done and I will continue to use you in the future God bless! Lynn D and family!

Chico & Chang – Menu with Prices – 3850 Riverside Dr, Macon

Wow! I went once when they first opened and got takeout. Canâ??t remember what I thought of the food then. But today, I experienced amazing service and food. The lady working the counter was BEYOND hospitable. She knew many guests (I assume regulars) by name. She was so accommodating and made conversations with guests making recommendations for their next visits about things they might enjoy based upon their feedback, giving samples of hot sauces and really creating a relationship with the guests. The staff was efficient, food tasted amazing, obviously fresh, they were welcoming, the place was super clean. I am extremely impressed. Canâ??t wait to try the rest of the menu!!!! I strive to offer this kind of service at my own establishment. A+!!!!!

El Michoacano Ice Cream and Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 2922 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines

This place is such a blessing for the Beaverdale/Windsor Heights area. Their food is not only authentic Mexican fare (they even have cactus and yucca on the menu), they have a full, separate menu with all of their vegan friendly options. I’m usually skeptical about the vegan status in most Mexican restaurants I’ve gone to since becoming vegan because traditional Mexican food often uses lard and chicken stock, but the owner’s daughter is a vegan herself and helped develop the menu! From their website: “My 13-year-old daughter is the reason for our vegan food initiative. She became vegan, but still wanted to enjoy our cultural food, therefore I decided to substitute 100% vegan ingredients as the alternative for meat/dairy. The food was later experienced with a couple customers, which turned out to satisfy them. Ever since then, we have had food options for Vegans. That is why at Ice Cream El Michoacano we pride ourselves in having an inclusive menu so everyone can enjoy!” – Gerardo Perez Everything I’ve tried here is flavorful, freshly made, and the portions are generous, especially if you get a burrito. Speaking of burritos, you need to try their own style called the Michacano burrito. It has vegan mayo, ground vegan “beef”, rice, radishes, lettuce, and vegan cheese with house made hot sauces! I also recommend the adobada burrito with soy chorizo, the enchiladas, and empanadas. They also have house made popcicles with vegan options, just ask the cashier what flavors are vegan that day. I love that they fry up a jalapeño with each order, just make sure to eat it with your food so the spice level doesn’t overwhelm your palette! Just a heads up, this is not a place you go for ambience, it’s a local casual food spot with minimal seating, but it’s clean and the people who work there are friendly. It can be challenging to order pickup because of language barriers, depending on who’s working, so learning a few Spanish phrases for ordering is highly recommended. No judgement, I’m impressed by anyone who can speak more than one language at all, and they are always friendly and patient if they don’t understand something.

Hot Box Cookies – Menu with Prices – 1013 E Broadway, Columbia

The cookies are pretty good. The service is very slow as there is always ONE person trying to do three jobs. The poor young lady working every time I go into the store is taking orders from a line of customers, then has to pack the order, answer the phone and tell the person on the phone that the manager is not available and that she canâ??t answer that question. We waited for ten minutes to have our order taken and another ten minutes just to get our cookies. What? The cookies are ready in the oven! Oh, not only do we wait for 20 minutes, we are notified that the cookies we want are sold out and we have to make another choice as the young lady canâ??t bake the cookies because she has to take orders, pack and answer the phone! This is seriously bad service and working a staff member in an unsafe environment. Leaving a teen alone in a store is very unsafe. Where is the manager? Is there a manager? No delivery drivers on site? The establishment was dirty as well, front and back because why…. there is only ONE person working!!

Star Donuts & Crossiants – Menu with Prices – 1940 Troup Hwy, Tyler

The woman working was very patient and friendly, but after ordering a bacon & cheese croissant and taking it home to enjoy, we found upon closer inspection that it smelled TERRIBLE. We cut it open and tasted a single piece of the bacon, and it was rotten and completely rancid. I canâ??t imagine how long the meat must have been sitting at room temperature to get to that stage. Would NOT order food from here again; Iâ??d be scared to.

Woodside Bistro – Menu with Prices – 1112 Woodside Ave, Greenville

Woodside Bistro is my favorite lunch spot in Greenville, hands-down! From the chefs of PPE Catering (Austyn & Ken), Woodside brings you comfort food with flavors and spices that edge out your previous favorite lunch spot. My go-to is the fried catfish. At most places, I have to overly douse my filet with tartar sauce for flavor, but you could literally eat the fish as is–the seasoning is just that good. But don’t get me wrong, the homemade tartar sauce is equally, mouth-watering. I don’t know what they put in it, but it could easily be something I buy off the shelf. The house fries are enough to keep me going back too! My only “complaint” with the catfish is that it’s typically too hot to eat right when it’s brought to the table. That’s right, everything is cooked to order! God bless the lady who makes the desserts there too! If you happen to go on a day that the peanut butter chocolate cake is served, don’t ask questions. Just order it before it’s gone. Aside from the tasty eats, the hospitality is the best I’ve received at any restaurant or eatery in/near West Greenville. They also have a community wall where customers donate money for folks in the community (the original residents of West Greenville) can come to enjoy a meal. Woodside Bistro does it right–food, fellowship, and giving back to the community that allows them to serve.

Goodness Cakes Bakery Ltd – Menu with Prices – 720 University Ave, Rochester

Goodness Cakes created our wedding cake when we got married 12/16/17 and Iâ??ll say the same as I did on WeddingWire. We had a three-tier wedding cake that was beautifully decorated and suited our style perfectly. Three different unique flavours and not one of our guests said anything except that the cake was exceptional, the best theyâ??d ever had. On top of that, Bethany was the greatest. She was so patient, friendly and excited for our day. We now stop in to visit all the time, canâ??t wait for our free anniversary cake (yay no freezer-burn) AND will be getting our birthday cakes from them in July.

Sweet Boutique Bakery – Menu with Prices – 9814 Zackery Ave, Charlotte

Earlier this year I changed my diet after finding out I was intolerant to dairy, soy and gluten and it made a huge difference in quality of life. But that doesn’t change my inexplicable love of cake. Cue the need for a custom cake for work and so I went to Yelp first looking for vegan gluten free cake and didn’t have much luck. So I went to the Googly machine and found Sweet Boutique! Debbie saved my life. She bakes beautiful cakes and cupcakes (regular, wedding cakes and my hippy dippy specialty cakes) out of her nice home in South Charlotte so don’t just show up on her porch for an after dinner slice. ? She does beautiful or custom art – I sent her my logo and she cut it out of surprisingly delicious edible fondant but she does sugar art too. We got a double chocolate vegan gluten free cake because my coworker also doesn’t usually get to enjoy sweet treats. It was so dark it was almost black but the taste was incredible. It reminded me of brownie batter and my husband absolutely refused to believe it was either vegan or gluten free because the cake was so mouthwatering good without having the grittiness some GF cakes have. I don’t know what she uses but it’s magic. I will be ordering a GF Caramel cake for my birthday and likely will come back for any baby showers. I bet her regular ones and wedding cakes are phenomenal!

Morning Glory Coffeehouse – Menu with Prices – 1415 Dawson St, Wilmington

This place was such a fantastic surprise! My partner and I were looking for an afternoon pick-me-up and wanted to shop local. We came to this place on a whim thinking that it was just a small corner shop, but wow were we surprised when we walked inside and it was HUGE! The bar is fully stocked with every flavor for coffee, there are yummy sweets (vegan options too), and they donâ??t charge you extra for choosing non-dairy milk! Inside there is a stage, comfy side rooms with couches and local artwork, bar seating and traditional tables, and more! We ended up staying a while to chat with the fantastic barista Whitney (aka â??Whitâ?) who told us all of the concerts, public service opportunities, and other events that are hosted here. I canâ??t wait to go back – both for some evening music or another afternoon coffee. If youâ??re into real down-to-earth people out to do the right thing through expression and art, look no further ?
