It was time for our Friday night meal, and this time around we chose a revisit to Los Pollos. We are happy to see it is still in business, and in fact expanding in town to another location (out by Santa Fe College). This time around I decided to go for something a bit different, and went for one of their Philly cheese steaks along with a quarter chicken meal (with fries and corn). The wait wasn’t long before I had my food in front of me, and I started in on the Philly. Let me tell you, I haven’t had a Philly this good in a long time. I have been to places in town that specialize in these things, and this was better. The problem that a lot of the specialist places have is that they put too much on one of these, to the point where they start falling apart and making a mess. Not at Los Pollos! The balance of meat and cheese to the roll was just right, where it doesn’t fall out and make a mess, but also doesn’t make you feel that you are eating more bread than anything else. The chicken was also good, but I was coming off of having had chicken for the past couple of days so I just wasn’t as excited about it. The fries and corn were good, however. They don’t overcook the corn here, so it still had a crunch to it.

Sillie Philly Chicken & Sub’s – Menu with Prices – 4723 Monkhouse Dr, Shreveport

Today was my first time eating here and I ordered the loaded Cajun fries and a Philly cheese steak sandwich. The loaded fries were INCREDIBLE!! However, the Philly cheese steak sandwich I did not care for. The bun was not a Philly bun it was more like an extra large hot dog bun, the meat, cheese etc did not taste like cheese steak at all. It did not have any flavor and the cheese was not cooked and melted into the meat well, it sat unmelted on top of the meat. I will eat here again because the establishment was clean, the person who took my order was kind and professional and I can always try something else!

DC Philly CO – Menu with Prices – 5001 E Berry St, Fort Worth

This place is a hidden gem! The food is filled with flavor and always served fresh. We ordered the classic philly combo which came with fries and a canned coke and another classic philly combo with bacon added. By far this is one of the best philly places I’ve tried. The meat to cheese ratio was spot on and it was seasoned perfectly. Don’t be intimidated by the area, the staff is very welcoming and friendly. They have a seating area for eating inside and slot machines to play while you wait. I recommend ordering a slice of cake with your food or ordering one to go. The red velvet cake slice we tried was moist with a decadent cream cheese frosting. I will definitely return to this location and would 100% recommend it to anyone in the mood for a classic philly!

Sub Central – Menu with Prices – 5599 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond

The reviews on yelp made this place look tasty. A Philly sub for less than $8 bucks, I would be crazy not to give it a try. This “hole in the wall” was not what I expected. Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed some amazing cuisines in places that aren’t the highest class in appearance, but the food out numbers the look appeal. The Philly cheese sub was nothing extraordinary. The meat on the bread was a bit dry and could have used a bit more cheese. Unfortunately, I was a disappointed.

American Deli – Menu with Prices – 109 N Burbank Dr, Montgomery

I will give them 5 stars because Iâ??ve never had a problem with them until THIS DAY! .. I ordered through waitr.. and I ordered correctly! My boyfriend and I always come there.. were regulars basically.. never give them a hard time.. anyway.. my order was incorrect. I ordered a chicken philly and wing combo ..only bell peppers and cheese only.. medium wings and fries for a $1.00. When I got my food it was a BEEF philly.. and I donâ??t eat BEEF! .. I did eat one wing before I realized it was beef.. I called and the â??managerâ? said she was only replacing the philly.. mind you.. I paid waitr $26 for someone to deliver my food and I had to bring it back myself.. when I got there she told me she was only replacing the philly.. the fries and the wings would be cold.. I didnâ??t care about the wings.. but at least you could replace the fries and philly because that was a mistake on the restaurant.. she did not budge.. and continued to say she was only replacing the philly.. after I plead my case.. stating that I ordered through waitr and stated how much money I spent to get the order delivered.. only to bring it back.. she asked how many wings I ate.. as if thatâ??s the determining factor of replacing my order.. after I stated one.. she decided to replace the order minus the one wing I ate.. which I am absolutely fine with.. I do feel insulted because I order from them all the time.. and after being treated in such manner I wonâ??t order from them again. I will try to build that relationship with the new American deli on Atlanta highway.

Wasabi Sushi – Menu with Prices – 2662 Garnet Ave, San Diego

I didn’t feel like driving to the middle of clairemont for my bff’s $5 philly rolls she’s craving from UTC. So I remembered I wanted to give this Wasabi place a try finally since it’s off the 5 freeway. I’ve driven by this place, saw the 50% off sushi sign for years. We stopped by here close to 2pm for Lunch Very roomy. Private parking lot with plenty of parking. Nice lady greeted us. Only one to two other patrons there. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. We were given a complimentary cucumber salad that was quite good and refreshing. Tamed the beast in my belly a bit. I was on the edge of hangry. My BFF had a cold Kirin, Philly Roll and Tempura Philly Roll. She enjoyed them all. Me: Protein Roll and lastly Salmon Kama since I’m doing low carb right now. The Protein Roll was good, had nice chunks of fish. The Sushi Chef was awesome. Handed us everything he made as he finished them. The rolls came out really fast. Waited just a little while for the Salmon Kama which I expected. I appreciated the lady informing us that the salmon was cooking. Salmon Kama is my favorite, I’ve had it at many places. It’s my go to, usually with a side of rice. I just ate it with the lemon, sauce and cabbage. Amazing and fresh. I will definitely be back. $5 Salmon Kama and Philly Rolls? Yes please.

Josanne?s homestyle cooking – Menu with Prices – 3449 Buckhorn Dr Ste 100, Lexington

My son and daughter-in-law live in the Buckhorn neighborhood and they were talking about how good Josannes chicken is. I love small places so I thought I would give it a try. Who doesnt like Southern cooking? So after a long hot, humid day at work I stopped in . I was sooo looking forward to a good fried chicken meal. The nice lady at the counter was very friendly. It smells great in there, and now I’m starving. So I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal. I inquired what 3 pieces are included. She told me that it comes with a breast, a wing and a leg. I’m not a leg fan so I asked to sub a wing for the leg. She kindly told me I could have any 3 pieces I want but they are out of breasts! I was crushed. Its 430 on Friday night…and theres no breasts? I almost left but I really wanted to try the greens, so I got the catfish meal with cabbage and greens. While waiting I asked about purchasing a soda so I asked for a Pepsi. Nope, they are out. Ugh…. Disappointed, I got my dinner and headed home. I got home to discover the catfish doesnt come with tarter sauce! UGH…..maybe they were out. SOOOO…Josannes gets a 3 from me this time. The catfish..plain…was good along with both sides but I was hungry for chicken. I’ll wait a couple of weeks and try them one more time. I just don’t feel like you should be out of food and drinks going into the weekend. Js

John’s Philly Grille (We close early if we run out of fresh baked bread) – Menu with Prices – 20379 Beach Blvd, Huntington Beach

Honestly? I never thought this day would ever come. I had pretty much resigned myself that I had found the best Philadelphia cheese steak in Southern California at Frank’s Philly in Costa Mesa. I mean, it was my go-to place, and really felt that there was no other alternatives available. Well, here I am with melted cheese on my face. My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to get a bite to eat when we decided on trying to find a good Philly cheese steak. I suggested our regular haunt, but she said no, let’s try something new. We told my roommate that we were looking for a good Philly cheese steak and was thinking about John’s Philly Cheesesteak onBeach boulevard. she said, “Oh yes, absolutely. Without a doubt, that is the place you need to go!” This place is definitely an old school, hole in the wall sandwich shop. It’s bright yellow, with hand-painted letters, and looks like it was a hamburger stand in the late ’60s. But let me tell you, this place is the real deal when it comes to Philly cheesesteaks. We ordered a 12″ The Works, and asked the girl at the counter if we should do fries or onion rings. She asked us if it was our first time there, and before we could even get the first two letters of yes out of our mouth, she said get the fries. So we ordered the fries extra crispy. Let me just say this: Everything was amazing. The bread that they put the sandwich on was impeccable. Like, I haven’t tasted anything that good since I had a Philly cheese steak in Philadelphia. And the fries, are big. Like steak fries. Definitely get them extra crispy. We ordered the sweet hot peppers on the side, because we were unsure about the heat. But I have no hesitation in throwing them all on the sandwich. They are full of flavor and won’t burn your mouth apart. If you like a good Philly cheese steak the way I do, you really have to give this place a try. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other things on their menu, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be having a Philly cheesesteak for the next several visits. It’s just that good. Bottom line? You are going to love this place as much as I do. As a side note, they do not accept $100 bills. Not really sure why, but there are several signs stating the fact. So if you are a high roller, make sure to have a wad of 20s when you go there.

Viva Chicken Greensboro – Menu with Prices – 4520 W Wendover Ave Suite 110, Greensboro

I got dinner from Viva chicken on a whim last week, and I was pleasantly surprised! You’re asked if you have a preference for white meat or dark meat – I got white meat. I ordered the 1/4 Peruvian chicken (Pollo a la Brasa) with sides of Peruvian fried rice (Arroz Chaufa) and Peruvian Corn salad (Solterito). The Peruvian fried rice has really flavorful and the corn salad was a fresh, delightful mix of corn, edamame, feta cheese, onions, and tomatoes. The 1/4 chicken was a well-seasoned thigh and there was no unnecessary fat on the chicken. This was a great meal and the three sauces are a great addition to the chicken. P.S. I got a sample of the ‘Chicha Morada’ juice that’s made with Peruvian purple corn, cinnamon, clove, pineapple, apple and lime. It tasted truly amazing! It’s sweet, fruity, and the cinnamon flavor is perfect. I will get this next time I visit ?

Xtreme sports bar – Menu with Prices – 3017 E Magnolia Ave, Knoxville

This place is off the charts. Ordered everything off the menu except the fish. Don’t dally because this place is so awesome that they ran out of fish and chicken. We had the philly. Best sandwitch I have had since going to philly. The wings are amazing. We had bone in and boneless. I personally dislike boneless but they are like tenders they are so meaty! The fried corn was better than miami. The ocra is like mama use to make it. The staff is amazing you feel like you are part of the family. Can’t wait to go up again.

Michealangelo’s Pizza and Pasta – Menu with Prices – 700 Locust St, Des Moines

I had a chance to order Sammies in today so I choose a couple items off their menu. Iowegian Bacon, ham, turkey, cheese (?), pickles, mustard, on a pressed hoagie roll. Big Beefy Roast beef, cheese (Swiss I think), roasted mushrooms, peppers, onions, on a hoagie roll. Both sandwiches were very good. The Iowegian was reminiscent of a Cuban and had a nice smokey flavor to the meat. Each component complimented another. You may wonder why I noted the cheese with a question mark… I think it had cheese on it, but it didn’t really stand out and I couldn’t find an online menu to verify everything. The Big Beefy isn’t exactly what I would call BIG, but it was good. Once again a well put together sandwich. I wasn’t fond of the to go packaging with this one… The wax paper and cheese were hard to separate and one kind of blended in with the other. I can’t knock it for taste though. The au jus worked well with the sandwich. It was kind of a Philly/Italian beef hybrid. Kudos for putting their own spin on each sandwich. Make sure you load up on napkins… Neither sandwich came out of the packaging clean. Definitely not something to try to eat in the car while you’re driving. Each sandwich was in the between $7.50 and $8.00 range. Were they worth it? They were. They had that straight out of the kitchen feel to them. Not a processed meat assembly line feel.

Coco and Moss – Menu with Prices – 30 Barnard St, Savannah

Rolls and poke bowl were on the whole great. Place has California vibes and Cali prices. We found this place while walking around during Savannah Pride. Place was pretty busy and loud. The decor has a California vibe: bright colors, laid back uniforms, lots of crisp brass colors. Here’s what we had for lunch: Edamame – Had garlic in it! What a shocker! I could smell it when it came out. It took forever to come, and when the waiter brought it, he told us our food was already ready. Unfortunately with the garlic I could not eat much. Pink Lady Poke Bowl – They are able to make the poke bowls gluten-free even though they are not labeled this way. I got mine without onions, scallions, and sriracha. It was decent, but the rice was the best part. Tasted like lots of rice vinegar, which I love. Not enough sushi places here season their rice appropriately or even at all. This was a major plus. Volcano roll – Hot mess. Alex was not a fan of the topping. He ate the roll underneath. Alaska roll – This was his favorite roll because it had a “nice balance” between the cream cheese and cooked salmon. Spider roll – Also a hit roll for Alex. With a soda, it was $68! Yowzers. Not worth that much. Also the people next to us ordered a chicken bowl but it came out with pork. Not a good mix up if people don’t eat pork! Next time: I’ll try some sushi and no volcano for Alex.

Ziggy’s Bakery & Deli Menu with Prices 1550 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville

Kind of a hidden gem. In a strip mall. Not a very large sign to tell you its here. Parking is kinda difficult to find but keep looking and you’ll find a spot to enjoy this meal spot. Walking in feels very inviting. The colors are very warming. They offer inside and outdoor seating for the nice Asheville days. This place is called “Ziggys” which is nice because that’s also what a lot of my friends call me. They have a small deli and offer meats by the pound at a very reasonable price. They even have Hoop Cheddar from Ashe County. The demographic is very nice here. Some of the retirees and younger generations here. A nice place to have a meal. The staff here is very friendly. They always say thank you for coming in. That’s something I feel that’s something that many businesses are missing. Now for what you’ve been waiting for…the food! I ordered an egg bagel with smoked jalapeno spread toasted. The bagel has a very nice flavor and chew. The spread has a very smokey flavor and smell. It tastes like a mesquite smoke. Very nice. The slight char on the bagel shows that it was toasted nicely. No one wants a burnt bagel. But the flavor of the bagel is definitely better than others I’ve tried. The chew isnt like eating bubble gum like some places. I dont like to have to chew it for 2 or 3 minutes before I can swallow it. Lol. Very good representation of a bagel. Probably the best I’ve ever had. But can we discuss this Philly cheesesteak sandwich! I’ve had Philly’s in Philly. This is better than those. THEY EVEN HAVE WIZ!!! Go to any cheesesteak place in this area and they wouldnt know what you’re talking about. The meat is minced so it’s easy to eat and it holds the cheese sauce really well. The meat is great! The hogie roll is soft and hot. Mushrooms and onions are cooked very well. I think the cheesesteak outshines the bagel. People I definitely recommend this place. Come for breakfast bagels and stay for a lunch cheesesteak. Tell them you want a steak wit and they will know what you want. Definitely a hidden gem in Asheville. I highly recommend this place!
