I love downtown businesses – especially restaurants because I work downtown. But listen. Youâ??re missing an opportunity and I need you to seize it. All day, itâ??s been dreary and slightly chilly but not quite cold enough for a coat and really itâ??s Midwest weather. You know? ALL Iâ??ve wanted is some thick and delicious tomato basil soup and I wanted a gooey grilled cheese sandwich to dunk in it too. Adding delicious tomato soup to your menu is easy peasy lemon squeezy. What ar

The Hawthorn Bistro & Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1307 N Monroe St #1, Tallahassee

Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. I went by here the other day to grab a baguette to go with dinner (and of course had to grab a cinnamon roll because they were there and were beautiful and spoiler alert: they are absolutely delicious) and I had zero regrets. The baguette was super delicious- best served warm with a little bit of butter. Because I was so impressed, I can back for lunch today and enjoyed it so much. The club sandwich was delicious, like wow. I’m not a ham or tomato person but in this sandwich it was delicious. The house made kettle chips were a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich. The grilled cheese (I got it with the sourdough bread and havarti cheese) was amazing and ooey and gooey and I’m sure absolutely scrumptious with a cup of soup. The bread was super crusty and if we hadn’t already bought a loaf of the egg bread (Also super delicious but much softer) we would’ve gotten a loaf of that…next time! I’ve resolved to try all the bread there. The greens were fresh with the grapefruit vinaigrette. I didn’t love the arugula in it, but if you like arugula, you’ll be fine! Another thing we got was the lemon lavender cookie which was a super surprising win. Honestly, all things here are delicious thus far. I love the aesthetics of this place and the service is quick. The chairs are super comfy and while it started picking up when we left, it wasn’t crazy crowded. What was crazy crowded was the parking lot. It’s a bit awkward of a lot, but just be persistent and you’ll get a spot. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Press 626 Wine Bar – Menu with Prices – 626 W Olney Rd, Norfolk

Love this spot for their “Award winning grilled cheese” sandwiches! There are four different melted cheese on their grilled cheese that make it one of the ooest gooest cheese sandwiches in the 757 and if you get the salad that comes with it it is so fresh with a dressing I believe they make in house… but wait… there’s another grilled cheese restaurant that’s only 1 short mile from Press competing for the best grilled cheese sandwich -the Grilled Cheese Bistro which features “The Gooey” with three different melted cheese and their Parmesan fries-heavenly.. so let’s compare notes: they both come on buttered grilled bread except it is sourdough at Press and a version of a thick Texas toast at Grilled cheese bistro- this is a tie because they both compliment the sandwich respectively, next the cheeses- although one location has four cheeses and the other has three both offering additions to the sandwich (i.e bacon, tomatoes) the cheeses stand firm on their own so there’s no need to for additions unless you prefer. The cheese on both is melted together so good it’s spilling off the bread that I can’t choose which is best-tie there. The price at Press is $10 which is the exact same price at the grilled cheese bistro (I think they’re trying to set us up people)….LOL So it boils down to this- Press is not a grilled cheese bistro But their grilled cheese tastes mighty award winning to me! Their Atmosphere takes the cake and I don’t know if I mentioned it but their wine list-oh boy, it is Great! The restaurant is set up in a quaint corner house with intimate romantic seating in their bay windows, the lighting is soft and dim making it perfect for a date night, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. You feel like you can get comfy and stay all night sipping the various wine options and rubbing your full belly (until 11pm most nights:) Highly recommend!

The Booyah Shed – Menu with Prices – 3702, 1800 S Ashland Ave, Green Bay

Discovered the brick and mortar location this week. And I can report that this is a must stop if you are looking for cheap eats in GB! Booyah is only $3.50 a bowl and $1 a cup! First visit tried a bowl and an Angry bacon jam grilled cheese (jalapeño’s added for free!). Really good! Genuine sconi booyah. Meaty and good veggies. Grilled cheese is on Texas toast and a good combo. I think to order it again I would ask for the soup at the same time as the soup, I like to dunk. Today, tried a Bacon Jam cheese burger, dude of crinkle fries and a cup of Booyah. Perfect pairing. Side was proper portioned and soup as a starter was stellar. Oh my friend order the tots with Jalapeños! Next time instead of fries!! Outstanding!! Must try.

Summer Thyme Café – Menu with Prices – 3928 Portage Street, Kalamazoo

A local shop recommended we come here for lunch. We wanted something light because we knew we would be having an early dinner. The half sandwich, half soup combo was a perfect option. They have four soups available. I had the vegetable beef which had a nice light beef broth and the meat in the soup was tender and delicious. Everyone else had creamy tomato which they enjoyed. The sandwiches wers also very good. The gourmet grilled cheese has lots of smoky bacon and buttery, crusty bread. The California Reuben had a lot of turkey and a heap of slaw and sauce. It made it a bit soggy but i didn’t mind. This only cost about eight bucks. This price for that food is perfect. Other places might charge twelve and that turn me away. I will definitely come back to summer thyme. They also have a case of desserts that look amazing. Lemon bars, brownies, and a bunch of pies.

Bray Gourmet – Menu with Prices – 323 Center St, Little Rock

Bray Gourmet just opened in the former Downtown Deli location. I’m happy to see another sandwich/salad shop downtown, as that’s my usual style. They’re a tad pricey (all sides are extra), but not too overpriced. And they had fast service. I tried the dill Turkey Spread sandwich on rye. Other options include the original, cajun, or jalapeno spread. They also serve typical sandwiches such as Ham, BLT, Turkey, and Grilled Cheese. Some not so typical sandwich options include Smoked Pepper Beef and Pimento Cheese. The sandwich was good! I’ll be back to try some of the salad and soup options soon.

Giancarlo’s Sports Bar – Menu with Prices – 1865 Commercial Dr, Vancouver

Went here for the second time in the past year when I was in the neighbourhood. STILL a great place to grab a $10 soup and sandwich!!! Hearty soup and yummy sandwiches. Usually 1-2 soups made daily with like 8-10 sandwiches choices. This time I had the Lentil soup( just like mama used to make me), and the Turk sandwich( turkey, cheese mayo, lettuce tomato grilled like a panini, delish! My mom had the chicken salad( chicken cucumbers tomatoes, peppers, goat cheese and a tasty vinegrette, she looooooved it! Thanks for being a chill, friendly place to visit , just like cheers, you get all characters, it is “the drive” of course!!!

unWined & Tap – Menu with Prices – 3901 Mary Eliza Trace NW #120, Marietta

Came here for a quick last minute birthday dinner for my mom. We had reservations that didn’t work out at another place. Not going to lie, I’m glad they didn’t because I love unWine’d & Tap! Came last minute since it was close and open until 10pm. We showed up probably at 9:15 and our server was awesome. We were able to get our food and wine and everything before the kitchen closed. No one made us feel rushed or anything. Which is great, because sometimes servers act that way when they’re about to close. Everything we had delicious! Mom was the only one who had been before, but now all of us love this place too. We had a little bit of everything: naan bruschetta, tomato basil bruschetta, soup of the day (which was a great tomato soup!), the international cheese board, handcut fries, bbq short rib, pork belly lettuce bites, the bacon flight, and the lobster Mac and cheese. As I said everything was delicious, especially the Mac and cheese and pork belly. Will be returning again when my friend comes in town. It’s the perfect place to have wine and tapas.

Southern Squeeze – Menu with Prices – 1301 Dorchester Rd, Chattanooga

You may notice that I gave it five stars. That’s kind of a big deal for me, as I don’t like to just throw 5-star reviews around will nilly, I like them to really mean something (despite the fact that I have more 5-star reviews posted than any other number – I just only ever review places I really like, I guess). Now, this place really serves to a particular demographic, but it does so really, really well. Is it for everyone? No. But I’m totally comfortable saying that if you’re vegan or want some really inventive raw foods, you’re probably going to really like this place. So to go along with that statement, here’s my only heads up: Since they only serve raw food, don’t come here looking for comfort food. An example is the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. Sounds cozy, right? Who doesn’t love a hot grilled cheese with tomato soup? Nobody. And is this iteration good? Heck yeah it’s awesome. Is it warm and comforting? Sure isn’t: it’s cashew cheese on slices of bread with cold tomato bisque. So, go in knowing what you’re getting and you’ll love it. Great place.

Middle Ages Licensed Location @ Hancock International Airport – Menu with Prices – Hancock International Airport, Syracuse

This is the only sit-down restaurant option in the left wing terminal where American Airlines and Frontier is. The waitress cleaning the table saw me enter and stand there waiting to be seated but she didn’t bother to address me until I approached her after waiting for her to wipe 4 more tables. I guess it is a self-seating type of establishment. There is a bar area and also sit-down seating. They have breakfast options that only last until 10:30 AM. I ordered a caprese sandwich and paid an extra $3 for grilled chicken. This brought the sandwich up to $17. The bread on it was ciabatta and it wasn’t very toasty aside from a small section of the corner. The sandwich seemed to be microwaved because the tomato slice inside was soggy and the mozzarella cheese inside was melted. There was no basil so it didn’t taste the way I expect caprese to taste. When you think of caprese, you think of fresh mozzarella and tomato rather than melted cheese and cooked tomato. I was underwhelmed by the sandwich and its lack of vegetables. There was a sun dried tomato paste inside that was alright. It came with a pickle slice and a side of salty chips. It would have been nice to have an option to substitute the potato chips with a salad instead. One waitress took my credit card and brought me back my check and a 2nd waiter took the card again and was about to charge it a second time before I intervened. I think their breakfast items might be a better option. I noticed that a lot of folks here ordered salads. It may be a good spot to grab a beer but it wasn’t a great option for a caprese sandwich.

Chicago Grilled Cheese & Mac Factory – Menu with Prices – 1465 W Leland Ave, Chicago

Update to review: Dinner tonight consisted of The Club Sandwich (American and Swiss cheese, honey ham, smoked turkey, bacon and tomato), a cup of broccoli cheese soup and coleslaw. So mad that I didn’t get a bowl of the soup as it was delicious! There were strings, you hear me, strings of cheese in the soup. Thick, cheesy and so good. The Club Sandwich is my sandwich. I will try to do the others, but not sure they will make the cut. This crap is filling like a mug. This is my second time ordering from here, but I am thinking this place is a heart attack waiting to happen between the cheese and meat. But I guess it is a chance I will have to take. This meal takes Chicago Grilled Cheese & Mac Factory to 5 stars ***************************************************************************** Amazing what you can discover in your neck of the woods thanks to Yelp. This place is literally down the street from me. I have pass this building a million times taking Leland as a short cut to bypass traffic on Lawrence. Thanks to one of my peeps (Shay R) bookmarking this joint and me seeing it, I never would have realized that Chicago Grilled Cheese & Mac Factory was open for business. Frankly we had no idea what the place was. There are chairs and tables in the space, but we never saw anyone going in or coming out. They only deliver. There is no option for pickup on Chicago Eat24, which is a shame since I could literally walk down and get my own food. I am a lover of mac & cheese and didn’t feel like cooking dinner, so I decided to give this place a try. Ordering on Yelp was pretty easy. There is a $4 delivery charge and I paid it because I didn’t feel like making dinner (#firstworldproblems, #thestruggleisreal). The menu looked interesting as it covered desserts, appetizers, soups, mac & cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. I like the fact that they have an option for you to create your own grilled cheese sandwich or mac & cheese with decent number of options of items to add. The delivery service was fast and the food was hot when it arrived. The order consisted of the following: The 3 Little Pigs Sandwich – Dr. M got this. There was nothing left and he said it was good. He loved the Texas toast as the bread. Loaded Fries – great flavor. Fries were crunchy like one of the reviewer’s said and there was plenty of bacon. Could have been more cheese on them. Seemed like the cheese was poured on top of the fries once they were placed into the container. I would recommend layering the fries and cheese for maximum flavor. The Bacon Burger Grilled Cheese Sandwich – I got this and it was absolutely divine. The flavors were well suited together and the Texas toast was beautiful. It was thick, buttery and golden brown. I didn’t even mind that my last bite didn’t have anything in it but cheese. Coleslaw – I am funny about coleslaw. Not a big fan of mayo and I will not eat just anyone’s coleslaw. There is a fine balancing act of cabbage to mayo to seasonings to achieve perfection in coleslaw. The place does it right. Don’t know if it is made fresh or they purchased it from a vendor. Don’t care…I loved it. I will say that their price is a little steep for the size of the container. For $4 it is smaller than the large size from KFC (they do coleslaw right too), but I would get it again. Black and Blue Mac – this was good, but could have been better. It was cheddar and bleu cheese, Cajun steak tenderloin and fried onion straws. There could have been more bleu cheese in it as the cheddar somewhat overwhelmed it. I would have loved to have that mix of cheddar and bleu cheese co-mingling. Steak was tender Chocolate Decadent Brownie – solid brownie. It was slightly warm. Couldn’t tell if that was the way it was served or due to being next to the warm food. Next time I will be going to Lindo Guadalajara to get some coconut ice cream to go with it. Didn’t get soup, but the

Rita Marie’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 605 E Holland Ave #116, Spokane

This place is probably a 3.5 but since the rating system only allows while numbers, I had to give it a 3. It’s not a 4 star. Unless we are talking about their beef barley soup then it’s a solid 4. We went and lunch time and my husband got their special which was Fried Chicken homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetables. They said we could either have a half or a whole chicken. My husband asked what that meant and they said it was a half a chicken breast. I wondered how they would do this and was surprised to see a breaded chicken breast literally cut in half instead of cutting it in half first then reading it and cooking it they took the whole piece of chicken and cut it in half after it was cooked. The chicken was dry and tasteless. The mashed potatoes did not seem homemade of to smooth. Finally the vegetables were okay at best there is just some squash on a plate. My daughter and I ordered the sandwich special. it was a half a croissant with chicken salad and either salad or soup on the side. I got a salad was Asian noodle salad it was not very good although the dressing was yummy my daughter got the tomato basil and she said it was more tomato than it was basil I did not taste it so it’s hard for me to speak to that. I did get a cup of beef barley soup because it sounded really good and it was the only saving grace out of the meal. The establishment is clean the staff is very friendly and the prices are average to above-average, depending on what you order. The soup and sandwich combo was $7 and they gave you a very nice sized soup. Salad with what the sandwich was a pretty decent size as well. The special cost $7 I think that that is excessive for a half a chicken breast a small scoop of mashed potatoes and a few pieces of vegetable. The full chicken breast would it cost $10. Bottom line, if it’s a cold wintry day and you’re looking for a good hearty soup I would go grab a bowl of soup from them otherwise I would give this place a pass.

Gastro Grub – Menu with Prices – 1001 N 1st St, Springfield

A hidden gem in Springfield, this is one of my favorite lunch places, especially when I’m craving a soup and sandwich. Unlike the downtown establishments, parking is free and easy on the street right outside and there are rarely long lines! They have an extensive (and creative) sandwich list and always have a bunch of fresh, homemade soup, quiche, salad, and dessert options. My favorite thing about this place is that it’s a local establishment, the women who work here are all incredibly friendly and know my “usual” (Veggie sandwich with their delicious tomato bisque). They post their specials on their Facebook every day and really care about the customer experience! Today they asked for my feedback on a new sandwich they’re thinking of for Spring that’s a Caribbean twist on my usual veggie sandwich. Sounds delicious! Love the thoughtfulness and care. Good place, good people, good food.
