Dont fly by South 1st/Ditmar without stopping for Liberty Press coffee at TheThicket Food Park. After the introduction of Liberty Press coffee to my palette, my coffee tastes are more robust. The friendly owners, Hayden and Alex are there EVERY MORNING, EVERYDAY serving coffee and breakfast pastries. Friendly service, great coffee. Consistency and quality is key here. We’ve enjoyed the Vanilla Iced Latte with almond milk, the Young Gheezy, and Black Eye. I recommended all three. Order your coffee under shaded seated covering . Also, great place to grab a coffee and let your kids run off their energy in the shaded playscape. Came here on a Sunday morning and there was a steady flow of patrons stopping in on foot as well as vehicle. Plenty of parking. Plenty of pleasant hellos. There must be something in that coffee ;).

Bruncheonette – Menu with Prices – 1011 W Broadway Ave, Spokane

his is completely not their fault at all but they do not know how to do a French press. My thoughts on this are that if you’re going to offer this on the menu then at least know a tiny bit about coffee. The server put way too little actual coffee in the French press so no matter how long it brewing it was still light brown water. The purpose of the French press is to be able to control how long and how strong the coffee would be. This is very different from regular drip coffee. She argued with me saying that I didn’t order the correct roast. I just asked to exchange it for drip coffee then ended up getting coffee later on down the street. Again, just learn how to do a French press if you’re going to offer it in a restaurant. Lastly, and this is my biggest complaint, they force a service charge on the bill that is separate from the tip you’re expected to leave. They claim that this is for the entire staff but then you’re expected to leave a tip on top of that which you end up leaving about 30 or 35% when all is said and done. I did leave a tip on top of that but I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed in the whole experience and a lot more broke than when I walked in. Save your money!!!!

Press Coffee Bar Belmont – Menu with Prices – 732 Watervliet Ave, Dayton

Press Coffee Bar in Belmont is a second location for the very well established Press on Wayne Ave. Aesthetically the shop is gorgeous. One of the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shops I’ve seen in any city. The front is all large glass windows flooding the room with natural light. Once inside, visually there is a minimal black and white color palette with only one color throughout the store — neon orange on the microfiber cloths. The ceilings are very high and the seating is pretty communal. The space is welcoming and energizing. Service is friendly, knowledgable, and thoughtful. The attention to detail is on another level, and it reminds me of why Press is so enjoyable. Before I came and hung out for a bit, I never would have guessed that reviewing Press’s second location would start off without pour overs. At any other third wavy coffee shop, you might be surprised to look at the menu and not see pour overs… but at Press it made me curious. Instead of pour overs at this location, they offer a very very high quality batch brew. Coming from someone who always gets pour overs over batch brew (drip coffee) anywhere else because freshness is so important to me. Press has done some wizardry here to be able to offer an incredibly fresh batch brew. The batch is different in the mornings and the afternoons. The Ethiopia Hambela one afternoon of opening week was top notch. One cool idea: they’ve come up with an uncommon cup size — the small is 7 oz which turns out to be the perfect size for that late afternoon to early evening visit where you don’t want a big cup of coffee. The standard array of espresso drinks are offered as well. The gibraltar glasses are really nice. There is no wifi at this location. They aspire to keep this focus and for you to have a conversation with your neighbor instead. (The downtown location will continue to have wifi.) As with the other Press location all of the coffee is self-roasted by Wood Burl.

The Human Bean – Menu with Prices – 29 S Power Rd, Mesa

These people make some great “stuff.” (Not coffee). If you like your coffee like your like your lasagna – without any actual coffee in it, then you’re in luck. Their lattes and stuff seem great. However I have simple tastes. I just want good, strong, black coffee. I tried to do this here two separate times. It tasted like gas station coffee you buy at 11am that had been boiling on a hot plate all morning long. If you go to coffee shops for coffee, even Starbucks is better. But nobody does that so you’re probably fine. Employees have to be almost uncomfortably friendly at all these places or else they get written up. This place is no exception. It’s all smiles. That’s my .02.

Roots Roasting – Menu with Prices – 1552 St Clair Ave, St Paul

On this hot, humid morning on the 243rd birthday of this nation, being without espresso-grind coffee to make my own at home, and being too soon to consume some of the cold-press coffee I started last night, and after calling to make sure they’re open, I walked the few blocks to Roots to try their cold-press coffee and get some beans ground for espresso in the upcoming days. I’ve stopped at Roots a few times since they opened in order to get some coffee beans ground, a request which they’ve cheerfully obliged each and every time (unlike a Spyhouse). I’ve found that I get a superb grind at a coffee shop vs. doing it myself at a grinder at a grocery store. That Braun electric bean grinder just does NOT cut it (unintended pun). This morning I was cheerfully greeted by Zoe, the woman who pleasantly answered the phone when I called. There were only a few people in the shop and it felt very calm to be in there with the music playing quietly. The owner was busy at the back of the work area doing some coffee-related task, and he looked up to acknowledge me and observe his shop front. I felt “seen”. I asked for “light ice” in my cold-press coffee so that I didn’t get a cup full of it, and declined a plastic lid. The 12-oz. plastic cup of cold-press coffee cost $3.75. Today, they served a blending of Brazilian and some other sourced coffee. It was flavorful and smooth. After a few sips, I decided I wanted a little sweeter flavor and asked about the light brown liquid inside the bottle on the counter by their cream carafe. Zoe said it was simple syrup made with “raw” sugar. Rhonda G. would REALLY appreciate this amenity! The two tips-of-the-bottle I poured were the perfect amount of sweetener in my coffee. Zoe accepted my beans and ground them to the fine espresso texture I requested and I know it’ll be perfect – as it’s been in the past – for my stovetop espresso either tomorrow or a few days from now – it depends on the outcome of the cold press currently “brewing” in my refrigerator (my first time making it, and made with beans poorly ground in the home grinder). I’m thankful for the location of this wonderful coffee roasters shop and will return again and again.

Red House Roasters Coffee – Menu with Prices – 308 Mt Pleasant Ave, Newark

In life you need the best equipment. That is, the better that all the little parts that make up the whole experience are (boots pack and sleeping bag for hiking, soap mop and mop head for mopping) the better the experience. Brewing coffee is no exception. For me, its a necessary part of my morning ritual. Shower, kettle, dress, grind and when the kettle goes off I press my coffee. The better the bean the better the morning. Red House Roasters gives you that “better” for your beans. After a discussion with the owner, its clear that he’s not just passionate but obsessed. He was telling me things about the bean I didn’t even know people considered!! Fair trade, organic – he scopes out all of his beans himself and tries many different roasts on each. The result is a fantastic cup of coffee. The aroma emanating from the bag alone is worth picking up a pound but grind and soak those babies in hot water and you got yourself a morning party!

HEYDAY – Organic Cafe, Coffee Bar and Premium Office Catering – Menu with Prices – 555 Mission St, San Francisco

This place is terrible. My coworker and I came on a Monday morning to grab a quick brekkie & coffee. My coworker got the avocado toast & I got their cauliflower frittata. The bread used for the toast was SO HARD and when my coworker asked if they could heat up the toast for her (in hopes to soften the bread), the worker lady was just like “no, the avocado would burn in the panini press.” We were both like, what the actual fuck is wrong with you? Why does it have to go through the panini press? You guys have an oven, why can’t you just heat the toast in there? You’re not going to put a croissant in a panini press so clearly you’ve got other appliances you could have used to heat up the toast. Honestly, she was probably just lazy & really didn’t care about providing the best customer service. The cauliflower frittata was also tasteless and dry like the Sahara desert. The vanilla latte I got was also overly sweet & they don’t even fill the cup all the way. When they handed it to me, the cup was only 80% full, ok what???? Don’t come here. If you want good quality breakfast items then head over to blue bottle, or anywhere else but here.

Coffee Cycle – Menu with Prices – 1632 Grand Ave, San Diego

Stopped by Coffee Cycle to meet with a friend from NY and WOW!!! First time there and had a black iced tea with Chris the owner. Simply fantastic and highly recommend stopping by when you are in town. Chris is extremely passionate about coffee and tea and has only the best ingredients. I plan on taking my wife from Carlsbad to Pacific Beach soon just so she can appreciate the uniqueness that is Coffee Cycle. Thanks Chris for creating something truly different and great customer service. Great job and I hope much success for you in the future because you deserve it!!!

The Fix Drive Thru Coffee – Menu with Prices – 1445 W Auto Dr, Tempe

Dang it, this is a Good cup of Joe!! Last year I tortured myself with the usual January “Diet/Cleanse” of Whole 30. During which time it suggested that I only drink Black coffee. I have always been a Latte, Vanilla, Almond milk kinda chick. But if it’s choosing between my calories in a coffee or a burger, I will take the Meat any day. Since that cleanse I have fallen in love with the purity of Black coffee, respecting the bean, and the notes that each region provides to our morning palettes. I approach coffee like a good full bodied Red wine, smell, quality, taste, and lingering flavor. This is all great but unfortunately has turned me into quite the coffee snob. The FIX opened up in my neighborhood and I have been waiting to give them a shot. Finally the time came when I ran out of coffee at home and had no time to go to the store, I needed my Joe on the go. I drove to the FIX and instantly was impressed by the small size, and the simplicity of the Vibe. It is like Dutch Brothers for serious coffee drinkers. I looked at the menu which is full of everything you want from Standard Lattes, Mochas, Frozen coffee, Smoothies, and sweet treats. I looked over the flavors and saw Macadamia Nut which is what was in my old coffee I would get in Hawaii when I went for business. My mind was made up as to what I was going to try. I also had my daughter with me and she lit up at the sight of smoothies. I drove to the window and asked where do they get their coffee from and she whispered the best words in the Arizona coffee dictionary.. “Press Coffee” Heck YESSSSS, I knew I was in for a great experience, because I am obsessed with Press. Taste Test Americano with a hint of Macadamia Flavor-The Espresso was high quality, super smooth, with a slight punch of caffeine that is just what the doctor ordered. The Macadamia flavor transported me to Hawaii where mentally I can see the Ocean. It was nutty, perfectly balanced sweetness and no fake sugar after taste. This drink is Next Level. Strawberry Mango Smoothie-Blended to perfection, no chunks, or ice crystals. Just smooth goodness of fresh fruit. Topped with whip cream and instantly put a smile on my daughters face. Service-The Barista was so sweet, knowledgeable, and even gave me a club card to return. Customer service always ends with an invitation back and rewards, so well done FIX. This is now going to be my go to drive thru Coffee haven. Take a minute to get a way from the big chains and enjoy something small, and made to perfection.

Ooo La Lattes – Menu with Prices – 2902 Slide Rd, Lubbock

I went in this morning for the first time getting an actual coffee product. I asked for a cappuccino and got a cup of black coffee, it’s not even close to what I asked for. The smoothies are good, but I will not be back for coffee at this place because it is very very obvious that they have no clue what specialty coffee is. A cuppuccino is not a cup of black coffee……..in response to the owner since Google won’t let me reply…..I did specifically ask if they made original cappuccinos and was told yes. That’s the only reason I asked for one is because I was told by Abby, the one that made it, that yes you made original cappuccinos.

Atomic Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3100 Airway Ave, Costa Mesa

Very hard to locate the entrance. If you’re using GPS, slow way down as you get close, and look for a red banner at the entrance to a business complex. Parking in stalls 113. Order at the first counter you see, take a seat, and wait for food to come to you! Pay afterward. TINY hole-in-the-wall place. Maybe 6 small tables and a couple spots at the counter. Food is fresh and good, and made to order. I got the Ion Panini (chicken, melted swiss, sun-dried tomato paste, artichokes, mushrooms), which had slices of actual chicken breast, not that processed deli stuff. Bread was crispy, ingredients were balanced. I got French press coffee, and they left the press at the table haha. I’m going to be wired! I also got bacon on the side, which came out crispy and gloriously thick-cut. Wish I could stay here all morning and read while nibbling on bacon and coffee, but the chairs aren’t very comfortable (small, light, hard plastic, wobbly). Still, it’s a place with good food, and everyone has been really nice. Definitely mom-and-pop vibe.

Equator Coffee Co – Menu with Prices – 134 Grimes St # 3, Eugene

Have been buying Equator coffee since I discovered it at a coffee shop in Portland 8 years ago. Now that I live even further away, I always order their coffee on-line. Guatemala is our main favorite but their Espresso blend is great too, even though I typically favor a medium roast. And their decaf has great flavor for moments when the caffeine buzz gets too much. Always use an Aero Press and you should ask Greg about those… but my Italian coffee maker does well too. A great place and great people! Get yer beans here!

Liberty Bell – Menu with Prices – 142 N Mountain Ave, Ontario

I can’t remember the last time I was here at Liberty Bell, I must have been in high school sooo more than 20 years ago? I don’t know but it was before yelp was invented I’ll tell you that! So my sister and I met up with our cousins here before going to the movies. You know for ordering a liberty burger combo, a colossal burger, larger zucchini and a medium drink all this was for under $30 I would say that’s not a bad deal. Burgers were good and so were the fries, now they did get mine wrong I dislike pickles (with a passion) thankfully thought I was able to remove them without any after taste. Plenty of pastrami on the burger and it’s actually pretty good. Ok this is where the eyebrows starts lifting lol, larger zucchini was a good shareable amount which is the reason I got them plus I wanted to try them. But I would not order them again some were ok other tasted rather funky, I don’t know I’ll just stick to the fries. I don’t drink soda as much so I usually get an iced tea, now I don’t what they gave me but that thing was pretty foul. We both said we wouldn’t mind returning for the burgers and fries and maybe try other things but not those two other ones lol.
