Piadine arenâ??t well known outside Italy, but they should be. These delightful snacks (kind of an Italian quesadilla) are a staple among late night eaters in Italy and have made their way here through the expert hands at Lella. The space has the vibe of a cute refurbished gas station and is packed with charming gadgets. There are good options for meat eaters and non- and they also have some bowls and salads for folks less inclined to eat carbs. Coffee is also excellent.

Wm. Van’s Coffee House – Menu with Prices – 503 S 7th St, Springfield

I searched for a coffee shop on a sleepy weekend in Springfield and we found this lovely shop. It’s in a refurbished Victorian Home, across the street from the Lincoln Home Visitor Center. The coffee is the real great thing about this place, their blends are delicious. I also ordered their Zucchini Muffin and a Brownie. They very cold and they should not be in their fridge or they should lower the temp of the case. The only other thing that prevents me from giving them 5 stars was the service. The 2 girls were talking very loudly with each other and joking within earshot. When I said hello the one at the register finally got off her chair and started to take care of us. You could see the condiment station needed cleaning along with the bathroom and refilling their water station. We did come back on Sunday and the gentleman working was very helpful and it seemed that the issues from the day before were not there. Overall I’d recommend them for the coffee & location.

Applebaum Co Inc – Menu with Prices – 8348 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis

This is a truly charming cafe. The ice cream is fabulous, I personally recommend the coffee flavor. The decor and theme reminds me of a trip to Italy. It?s a wonderful spot and I cannot wait to go back!

Beehive Kitchen Menu with Prices 1914 NE 5th Ave, Boca Raton

I finally made it to the local Beehive. I have been to another location but never had I been to the one that’s right on my side of town. I was prompted by a coupon, a buy 1, 2nd half off. As the couple salads I have gotten in the past at a Beehive seemed over priced I was glad to get a hook up. after some easy parking I came in at what seemed the perfect time, there was no line, and about 4 customers were just finishing up and the near the end of the line, at the register. But all 4 employees stayed down there, presumably 4 employees getting a bowl ready, 1 per person. When a nice guy did come down, he got right to prepping my couple of bowls. I got the mixed greens and spinach. It wasn’t much of either, but seemed pretty fresh. The next station was a veg, so I got a green bean and a broccoli. then next station was a meat so I got chicken and an additional of serving of tuna(2 dollars additional). with some dressing handed to me at the end I was set. We dug into the bowls, fairly happy with the ingredients. the salad parts, the vegetables the meat, pretty good. I thought the tuna was just ok, but pretty good overall. I thought the small portions compared to the price seemed out of wack. Overall it’s a good bite, good service, I just don’t dig the portion versus price. With a coupon, I will probably stop back in.

Station Cafe – Menu with Prices – 15211 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine

You really have to have the right expectations for a restaurant at a train station. Consider the Streamliner Lounge at the Orange Station or even Traxx at Union Station. They’re trying too hard to be something they’re not: an establishment that people would go to even if they weren’t taking a train. The owners at Station Cafe get it. Station Cafe is a small shop at the Irvine Station serving commuters and employees in the Irvine Technology Center area. The menu here is simple and consists of sandwiches, paninis, and salads. I was surprised to see that they serve Stumptown beans here instead of the usual Gavina or Farmer Brothers sludge. There’s also a breakfast menu available in the morning that deserves some attention. I tried the breakfast burrito this morning. With tax included, a breakfast burrito costs $5.38. It contains two scrambled eggs, crunchy potato cubes, jack/cheddar cheese, and your choice of meat. I opted for the bacon during my visit. All the ingredients were good and seemed to be freshly prepared to order. This is not a calorie-busting, limb-sized monster. It is about the size of a frozen burrito. While I could probably put away two of these burritos at Station Cafe, I think the price is fair for what it is. Station Cafe is a good place to grab coffee or a quick bite before catching a train ride. It might also be worth visiting if you work nearby and need variety from Flame Broiler.

Satsuma Café – Menu with Prices – 1320 Magazine St Suite 104, New Orleans

I’ve been eating at Satsuma for years. They have fresh juices that are delicious, and I love their menu and the fact that they offer gluten-free bread options. For low carb-ers, it’s a little bit more limited. There are omelets and eggs and meat choices so you can pick some things al a cart and put together a plate. The magazine location has a chef creating amazing daily special bowls. Sometimes they are low carb. I had one the chef called “is it fall yet” and it blew me away! The bowls don’t have a much wiggle room though… there was one with rice that I couldn’t alter.. It would be amazing if there was a cauliflower rice option or if I could just double up on the veggies/salad component to avoid the carbs in the daily special bowls. They also have amazing pancakes, but now that I’m gluten-free I have to pass on them… I hope they consider adding a gluten-free pancake option to the menu. That being said I really love eating here. The magazine location has a cute little outdoor seating area with mini picnic tables for the kids to eat and play, and lots of tables with umbrellas for the adults.

About The Coffee – Menu with Prices – 3160 Terrace St, Kansas City

ATC is an amazing place for anyone who is curious about any and all things coffee. There is a whole room full of coffee gadgets, brew equipment, accessories, and a wall of demo equipment that the staff is more than happy to show you. It’s basically a really inviting, hands-on retail space. It’s not a coffee shop, but they do love to offer you a cup of coffee when you walk in the door. They want you serve you a cup that you will enjoy, so they ask questions about what qualities of a coffee you enjoy. If they don’t have an answer to your coffee questions (which would be surprising), they are more than happy to figure it out with you. Very unpretentious and comfortable. They also do free demos. It’s nice to have free education in an age where everything seems to have a price tag.

Zarabella’s Pizzeria & Grill – Menu with Prices – 1110 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington

I was starving and after having already waited for the darn train, driving all the way around and then finding another long line of cars, I zipped in to Zarabellas. Sorry no pics because I put down my sub in about 2 minutes while driving. I’ve never been thankful for that train, but I am now for having discovered Zarabellas. Great local place to grab a fresh, tasty bite. I haven’t had the pizza but it looked delicious and it had those big pepperonis! I had the turkey sub–exactly what I love about the Mid-Atlantic sandwiches–fresh, stuffed full, salty/zippy/spicy (bc I get the peppers), and with that little kick of oregano. Things to note: they are new and yet still managed excellent service. I really needed carbs but the salads looked substantial and I’m glad to have a place to try instead of Panera and the horribly run Salad Works on Kirkwood. Good luck to the folks at Zarabellas as they gain customers and try new things!

Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters Menu with Prices 520 12th Street South Suite 150 Suite 150, Arlington

…..and they know their stuff. They have nitro, drip coffee. You can get hot or cold brew coffee and they have some cute non-coffee based drinks to try. Some based in kombucha, and it fits appropriately in this cute coffee shop. You can get a growler of cold brew if you are so inclined. I feel kindred while rolling my eyes at the dude ahead of me trying to fashion a caramel macchiato-tini thing. Dude, it’s coffee and you have a choice of leaving room for milk in the cup or not. Keep it moving, dear.. I have spied board games in a back room that is curtained off and I imagine they have some secret-handshake-members board game Sunday where they drink only nitro cold brew in pint glasses. This place is a quirky, solid place for really good coffee and nice folks.

Gelato-go Sarasota – Menu with Prices – 14 S Orange Ave, Sarasota

This is the real deal, authentic Italian Gelato in America. You owe it to yourself to try this place. To me, Gelato was synonymous with overpriced ordinary ice cream, until I visited Florence, Italy and had Gelato at a well known place. The Gelato I had in Florence was a 10, the best ice cream I had previously tasted in America was a 6. Since I came back I have had Gelato at dozens of places trying to duplicate my Florence experience. Gelato-go comes the closest. They use Italian machinery, and ingredients imported from Italy. Every flavor I have tried here has been excellent. I rate them 9/10, and far better than any other place I have tried in America. I have made several visits. Their coffee is amazing also.

Javahz Cafe Espresso – Menu with Prices – 4330 W El Prado Blvd, Tampa

A wonderful throwback to the neighborhood, Mom N’ Pop coffee shop and Breakfast hang-out of days gone by. The fact that the food is excellent (Three-meat breakfast burrito) and the coffee is delicious (I had the French Roast Blend) just adds icing on the cake. Sure, when they are packed with customers it takes a little while to get your order, but everything is fresh-made. Nothing is sitting under a heat lamp or waiting to be tossed into a microwave! The owner told me they have been in that location for over 15 years, so obviously, quality counts and they have a loyal customer base. If you’re in South Tampa and want some excellent Java, stop by Ja-Vahz for a great, mellow, time.

Dirt Juicery – Menu with Prices – 2304 Lineville Rd #108, Green Bay

I discovered DIRT at the GB Saturday farmer’s market and was an instant fan after trying their cold brew coffee; cold brew, coconut cream, and maple syrup all organic. The people were so friendly and really excited about their products. Today I went to the shop for the first time and now I love DIRT even more! The shop is cool, perfect decor and vibe for their product and a shopping center called “Urban Edge”. I get a cold brew every Saturday so I decided to try something different, a friend raves about the “chunky monkey” which looked really good but I went with the “morning roar” and it was awesome, coffee, almond milk, dates, cashews, and many other yummy ingredients. They also have smoothly bowls, and one of my favorite things in the world, avocado toast. There is a cooler with mason jar salads also. While the food and beverages here are not cheap ($7.75 for a smoothy), the value for the money is worth it, organic and fresh, things that have been lacking in The Green Bay Area. I am a person that tracks macros and they provide the information I need and will adjust ingredients as needed for you based on your protein, carbs, and fat requirements. I cannot say enough about DIRT, I highly recommend and will be a regular here!

The Breakfasteria – Menu with Prices – 16615 Huebner Rd, San Antonio

Pretty neat idea, definitely something to lure in the millennial and generation z people. Touted as “Mexican-inspired breakfast bowls,” The Breakfasteria blends the ideas of Mexican restaurants, poke bowls, and health-foods into an amalgam of something you’d probably find in LA. The concept is simple enough. You have a large bowl option ($10) and a small bowl option ($8). You pick your base, add your type of meat, and other fixings, and boom. Or, you can select from other, lighter, options like Mexican Toast, their take on avocado toast. And, for the purist, they have breakfast tacos, too. My avocado toast tasted great, and the price was competitive. ($8) It had scrambled eggs, onions, tomato, spinach, avocado, and avocado salsa. Service was also friendly, fast, and efficient. He even gave me the rest of the coffee in the pot when it was running low. In the future I’d like to see a little more wiggle room with the options, such as a vegetarian protein option. What if a vegetarian wanted a bowl? Would they get a discount because they can’t select a meat? Or are they destined to order the Mexican Toast?
