Stopped in here for the first time in years for lunch. Everything looked the same as I remembered it only a couple of customers in the place. Ordered a beer and perused the menu to see if anything was new if it was I did not see it. The menu oysters shrimp fish wings burgers all pretty standard fare for Lazy Flamingo. I ordered the ” Spicy” Conch Chowder and a Grouper sandwich. Chowder came out first well in a big clamshell bowl (why?) hard to eat from and pretty kitschy as well. Chowder I think not Spicy Hell no taste like tomato purée with some tiny conch pieces this was a waste of $6.00 dollars and stale saltines to go with the liquid they said was Chowder. Grouper sandwich nice piece of fish good bun crisp lettuce and onions nice at $14.99. So one hit and one miss but come on make a Chowder and get some flavor in it we have many places to eat in SWFL think about what makes us want to come to your place?

The Seafood Joint – Market & Grill – Menu with Prices – 217 Avenida Madera, Sarasota

If you are looking for some Amazing seafood off the beaten path then this is the place to go. We stopped in on our last night on the key (we wish we would have found this place earlier in our vacation) and we had some of the most delicious fish tacos and conch fritters. The conch fritters were a bit spicey, but just enough for flavors to come out. They also had some large pieces of conch in them and served on a very colorful plate of greens and peppers. We both had the blacken red snapper tacos. Wow….a very generous piece of fish and fresh toppings of slaw and peppers. All of the flavors married well together. Joe was our server and he is a super friendly guy. He took time to tell us about the establishment, where to go if you want to catch your own fish, about the free car service on the key. They also are a fish market besides a restaurant. The fish in the case just make us drool. It was fish and colorful. If we were staying another night then we would have picked up some fresh fish for dinner. This place is a must if you are in the village.

Florida Cookery – Menu with Prices – 1545 Collins Ave, Miami Beach

A huge fan of the New Orleans Hot BBQ Shrimp at the Red Light in Miami (a menu item I had heard the chef brought with him to Florida Cookery), I was ready to love this place – and we started with a large order of the bbq shrimp. The flavors were just not there at all and the normally delicious buttery, lemony, peppery, spicy, savory sauce I had my chops set for was instead this charcoal-grey colored watery, nearly flavorless mess I didn’t want to sop up with the fresh baguette (that they don’t serve here!). The shrimp looked grey and undercooked. Here’s the deal. Forgetting the lack of seasoning in the sauce, Florida Cookery has made a very unfortunate lighting choice, using orange tinted ceiling lights (perhaps LED) throughout. This basically causes any food item with a naturally brownish orange tint in natural light (like shrimp, or fish that has been pan seared for instance) to appear charcoal grey/beige at night – not colors one normally thinks of as mouthwatering One of our guests pulled out her bright orange wallet, and it looked dull beige in this lighting. Our other guest was wearing a pastel blue shirt – it too looked beige. The green beans were charcoal green…you get my point. Eating is a visual experience, and sadly this food needs more help than just changing a few light bulbs can provide. I had the conch chowder (it was 90 degrees outside on a July evening, dining al fresco, what was I thinking?). This serving bowl sized dish of “chowder” had a cornstarch shine to it, and the corn kernels were far larger than any conch in the dish. They ground the conch from what I could tell so there was no typical chewy texture from this conch chowder. They should rename this “corn chowder with ground conch”. It was pleasantly spiced, but they need to rethink the size as a starter (and rethink the price while they’re at it). The pecan crusted grouper was the highlight. (Meh.) I’ve had better fish dishes in chain hotel dining rooms. I REALLY wanted to like this restaurant. The $$$$ price point is not at all justified based on my experience tonight, and I don’t plan to give them another chance. Service was good. (We arrived at 8 PM on a Saturday night and there were only a handful of people in the large poolside dining outdoor dining room.) FLORIDA COOKERY – PLEASE HAVE A LIGHTING SPECIALIST HELP YOU FIX THIS! GREY FOOD IS NOT APPETIZING AND IT’S KILLING ANY CHANCE YOU HAVE OF MAKING IT HERE. PLEASE ADJUST YOUR MENU TO TASTE MORE LIKE THE FOOD AT RED LIGHT – BECAUSE THIS FOOD HAS NO SOUL WHATSOEVER. YOU’RE GIVING FLORIDA CUISINE A BAD NAME (In my humble opinion.)

Tide Tables Restaurant and Marina – Menu with Prices – 12507 Cortez Rd W, Bradenton

We went for dinner after a big down pour of rain and so we had to sit inside. When you go request a table outside. They are the best. The view is great no matter what. And the food is oh so delicious. My friend and I both ordered the fried fresh grouper sandwich ($18.00) comes with slaw and chips or you can substitute another side. I got the fries and they were hot crunchy and delicious. My grouper sandwich did not disappoint. Hot. Delicious white fish. Full of flavor. And pairs so nicely with their tarter sauce that I believe has some dill in it. The slaw is mayo based. I added salt. We ate our sandwiches and then finished our meal by sharing a piece of key lime pie. Graham cracker crust. The perfect amount of key lime tart and oh so creamy. It was delicious. Homemade pie. I love Tide Tables. The view is fantastic. The service is great. The food is awesome. It’s a smallish place so go early or late to avoid the crowds but be sure to go. You will not be disappointed. I talked to a patron in the parking lot who said her fish tacos were to die for. I’ll save that for another trip.

Fish District – Menu with Prices – Town Center, 6278 Irvine Blvd, Irvine

01.02.2018 Hubby, Little O and I came here because it was next to the bike store (a required stop) and we just finished running some errands. We spent $29 for the three of us: 1-Regular traditional salmon poke bowl 1-Cup clam chowder 1-Baja fish taco 1-Kid’s grilled salmon plate 1-Calamari Fritti Little O was not too fond of the sauce used for the poke bowl so we took it home. I told her I’d rinse it off and take off the cucumbers, and seaweed salad. The clam chowder was the best! I would definitely come back for it. The flavor was balanced and had good sized pieces of clams and veggies. It was creamy and yummy. Little O ended up eating all of it instead of the poke. I tried the Baja fish taco on a corn tortilla. It was average. The tartar sauce did not help at all. The fish was just plain, no flavor or seasoning. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried light (not much color on the fry). It was seasoned well and tasted good as soon as it was served because it was crispy and hot. But about 10 minutes into the meal the pieces began to go limp and soggy. The aioli was good, nothing exciting in flavor. The cocktail sauce was simple, not spicy. Hubby enjoyed the kid’s grilled salmon plate. The fish was a good size and thickness, seasoned well and cooked through. He didn’t care for the battered fries that it came with. If we came back to this area, the chowder and grilled plate would be on our list again.

Foremost Seafood – Menu with Prices – 1904 Woodman Center Dr, Dayton

Best place to buy your fish, seafood, soup in the greater Dayton area. (It’s the place that the better restaurants get their fresh fish from). First of all, just in case y’all hadn’t noticed, we don’t have that many resources here to catch our own fresh fish, and yet they bring in fresh not frozen fish! The other day I stopped by on my way home, and the fishmonger brought out a piece of pollock for my inspection. It had the aroma of the ocean! No slime, I brought it home, poached it in butter and lime and I could have been at Jays or Sweeney’s! If I needed help, there’s always recipe cards available. My only problem, I didn’t just stop at the one piece of fish, got a 16 oz of clam chowder and piece of frozen sea bass for later. (Why pay $35 to 45 for a meal when I can make it for so much less. (Sorry Jays)

Isabela Seafood Market Inc – Menu with Prices – 1265 S Military Trail, West Palm Beach

This is more small restaurant than market. They do have a display case, but the day we came by it was only filled with whole red snapper fish… but we weren’t here to buy seafood — we were here for lunch. It a tiny place inside and out. It is located on the end of a strip of stores — next to a convenience store — on the west side of military. I don’t know how it would be coming here for dinner, but it was fine and safe during lunch time. Inside, there are a few high top tables and a couple low ones. And yes, they do speak Spanish here… but when we answered the hola with hello, she switched to English. We didn’t have any trouble ordering — although we do speak some Spanish — and you should be fine without any. There were a couple tables occupied — a couple guys finishing up their beers and an older lady having lunch. It was a bit loud but tolerable. My husband got their grouper soup and added a side of Cuban bread. The soup had rice and nice fish chunks in it. The broth was very flavorful and he easily devoured the basket of sliced bread, too, that they brought to the table. I ordered their “pan con minuto”. On the menu it’s described as fish butterfly sandwich. What it is: fish that has been butterflied open, it’s cleaned of bones, etc., and then it’s lightly battered and fried with the tail still on. It’s served on a soft round bun with lettuce, tomato, and onion. I left off the onion. I opened up the roll and removed the tail, then chowed down. It was delicious. They offered me tartar sauce, but it didn’t need a thing beside a squeeze of lime and a touch of salt. We finished our meal with an order of flan for dessert — one flan and two spoons (uno flan con dos cucharas). It was delicious. I’d definitely go back and probably order the same sandwich — but they have many other items on the menu. I’d like to try their conch fritters or fried shrimp or maybe one of their Cuban platters. Their prices are very reasonable and what we had was very good.

Macon Seafood Inc – Menu with Prices – 3187 Mercer University Dr, Macon

I’ve lived in Savannah for many years and can tell you that when it comes to conch, they are cheating you. If you ask for a certain size (small, medium, large) then whatever container they deem it for they fill it up. At least that’s how it’s done in Savannah. This place gets a cup and you barely get any conch and they charge those exuberant prices that makes no sense. I’ll make the drive to Savannah for conch. I just now only go here for fresh fish whenever I’m in the mood. The prices on that are okay. As with any place, get your oil and extras from the grocery store unless you’re tired and ready to just go home. Low country broil prices are a rip off as well. They take advantage because they offer things that are hard to find or get in Middle GA period, however I know better.

Bahamas Breakfast Club – Menu with Prices – 1940 N 30th Rd #017, Hollywood

Wonderful afternoon strolling through the farmers market. We happened upon this little taste of paradise. The owner was so pleasant and his smile was contagious! We ordered conch fritters and holy moly they were delicious! The conch salad was refreshing and you could decide how spicy you wanted it to be. They have a table that seats six people set up right next to the booth. This is definitely a place to check out if you’re looking for a taste of the Bahamas.

Santa Rosa Seafood Retail – Menu with Prices – 946 Santa Rosa Ave, Santa Rosa

Still BAR NONE the BEST seafood in the Valley! Sal and his crew are amazing!! We love their foods both raw and smoasted!! The smoasted salmon is a staple in our house!! All those wonderful oils inside a perfectly cooked piece of fish! And I love the flavor it adds to their chowder!! They add some of the smoasted salmon to their chowder and wow…what a pop of smoke (yet not over powering)!! Delicious! Also love their poke, the crab cakes, their deveined shrimp are super easy and the scallops…I just can’t say enough about the quality of their fish! You can also grab their fish from a couple of farmers markets in the Valley! We love Calistoga’s little Saturday market and in the summer months they also attend St. Helena’s market! So check them out!!!

Sam’s Southern Eatery – Menu with Prices – 2808 N Southland Park Dr, Shreveport

Have been a loyal customer since the day it opened, but I’ll never buy from them again, apparently the owners are chasing profits instead of pleasing their customers. Just bought a 4 piece fried fish and shrimp, instead of getting full filets, that I have always received, they now cut them in half and what was once a single piece of fish, it’s now counted as two pieces. The extra pieces of fish and shrimp that made them famous, well obviously that is no more. As I did when they first opened, I told everyone I could, I will definitely do the same with my new opinion. I am an executive chef, and I would never switch my menu without informing the customers first so they have the option to purchase or not.

American Deli Menu with Prices 1055 Gaines School Rd #102, Athens

Well I ordered a club sandwich from this place . I ordered it through bulldog delivery (who I’m not reviewing yet). The sandwich was worse than mediocre! I’ve had better brown bag sandwiches out of food trucks. First a club sandwich has three pieces of bread (and adult bread not the bread you’d find in a child’s lunch box) ! The sandwich had sparse ham and one piece of bacon, also totally unevenly distributed veggies. The only thing that was plentiful was the over compensated mayo (which would have been enough for a full size club Sandwich !) . It’s good they provided an over abundance of napkins so I could wipe off the half jar of mayo. The bread was not lined up so when they cut it in half (most clubs are cut in quarters) , one side had a piece of crust practically , so I was holding the sandwich makings with my hand (enter the plentaful napkins)!! The other side was almost a whole piece of bread. It was quite a disappointment all around. The haphazardly made sandwich that was lacking any semblance of attention to detail and overflowing with forgettable mediocrity!

The Tavern at Bayboro – Menu with Prices – 120 6th Ave S, St. Petersburg

Best grouper sandwich around!!! This place is great located on the campus of USF – SP. Cleared a couple hours this afternoon to actually get out and take a real lunch break! What a great place! Laid back and a lot of character. Its a dive bar with class. The staff is awesome. My husband actually came here before (without me!!!!) and the owner recognized him and was happy to see a return customer! I’m sure he gets lots of those. We decided to start with buffalo shrimp. The perfect amount of spice. I can say that now since I didn’t need a tums later…. Served with ranch dressing, they were really quite good! Now there is a lot on the menu and a lot sounded good but we came for the grouper. Freshest grouper I’ve had since living here. It was fantastic! I had it with seaweed on top (don’t judge until you try) and my husband had it straight up grilled. Ridiculously good. I am going to regularly schedule a lunch here from now on! Next time, I’ll make sure I take the rest of the afternoon off so I can have an ice cold beer. Beach Blonde Ale on tap – yea, I love this place!
