Now when I say this understand that I know about this taco game! To make a great taco you want fresh ingredients, great tasting corn tortillas, (heated in fresh good oil,)and you want meaty seasoned meat, with this description you now understand this is the pillars of a great taco, this place is literally a diamond in the ruff, the tacos where smacktastic! The burrito best thang going! homemade flour tortillas with the old school abuelas rice!, you know the abuelas rice I’m speaking of the Spanish rice with the veggie mix! Yes! It’s truth! But wait…whole up! This ain’t it! the pickled jalapeños and carrots that most taco trucks, restaurants give as a garnish, are home made and they are the bomb!! I kid you not! this was the first time I’ve tried a homemade pickled jalapeño. This taco truck is in the cuts but don’t let the location fool you just order, eat and be amazed!

Taqueria Los Olivos – Menu with Prices – 3326, 1997 N Orange Olive Rd suite b, Orange

Tacos aren’t the only thing you will find here…. Plenty of smiling faces and great customer service. They make you feel welcomed here and the dining area has a cozy feel. The salsa bar sports some of the most appetizing pickled carrots and fresh homemade salsas around. Without a doubt, this entire restaurant is spic and span and the cleanest taco shop I have been to! This place is full of love and tacos! They should call it the Taco Love Shack! The Asada and carnitas tacos are sold individually for a little over a buck. They come with the meat of your choice, deliciously prepared homemade tortillas and flavors abound! I am a fan! Wait, there’s more! I also tried the burrito. Again, homemade tortillas and freshly prepared ingredients. Lots of flavor and fresh off the grill. They sell ice cold Mexican Coke and Fanta products along with horchata and the typical fountain drinks. Parking is easy peazy fresh and squeazy! I am a fan!

Tacos Fiesta Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 4200 Peralta Blvd, Fremont

OK, first and foremost I’m not ashamed, I’m not scared, nor am I intimidated to order food from a food truck. Such mixed feelings when it comes to food trucks… I get it, I’ve heard many war stories from co-workers about the thin line you walk when ordering food from a food truck. I’ve been told to never eat from a food truck on Mondays because they use the remnants of the weekend’s leftovers, I’ve been told there all just glorified “roach coaches”, yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah and that could all be true, but not at Fiesta Mexicana….I think…..I hope. When it comes to taco trucks, Fiesta Mexicana is legit! I keep it pretty simple and straightforward. I’m not a taco truck connoisseur, nor do I go to multiple locations unless I’m captivated by the scent of a lone taco truck grilling up some carne asada from afar. Usually while I’m washing my car or waiting outside of a local DMV office. For the most part only one, this one, and it’s usually when I’m fresh off work. I come here when I have a specific taste for street style carne asada tacos and to my delight Fiesta Mexicana usually comes through with piping hot well garnished corn tortillas stuffed with carne asada, cilantro, onions and a combination of pickled jalapeños and carrots. A quick lunch fix with hard to beat prices. $1.75 for a taco…Not bad in my opinion. Fiesta Mexicana is a clean, well kept, consistent taco truck that offers tacos, burritos, quesadillas to the local Fremont community. Keep up the good work Fiesta Mexicana for I am a repeat offender. p.s.- CASH ONLY

Taqueria El Mexicano – Menu with Prices – 1717 Oakdale Rd D, Modesto

So delicious!! I just moved to Modesto and I was searching for a Mexican food restaurant near my house. I had driven past this place a few times on my way to Big Lots so I figured I’d give it a try and WOW am I glad I did!! I’m Mexican myself and my family own a Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area so I have pretty high expectations for Mexican good restaurants. I wanted to try a little of everything so I got a carnitas taco, a carne Assad quesadilla, a side of whole beans for my toddler, and I tried their flan. The Carnitas Taco: so yummy!! The taco had a LOT of meat so I split it up onto both of my tortillas and added some salsa. The carnitas has such an incredible flavor and were not dry at all. The tortillas were made of the dark yellow corn which is not my preference as I prefer the white tortillas but these definitely gave a different flavor that I actually enjoyed. The quesadilla: so good! Typically they are folded in half down the middle but here they fold the sides of the tortilla in and then it’s cut into 3 pieces; 2 edges and then the middle section. The edges were easy to eat but the middle section was a little difficult to maneuver without all the contents falling out and your fingers getting food and sauce all over them. I’d definitely get this again though! The whole beans were so good and the broth was so authentic and flavorful. I ate the flan later in the day and it was delicious and homemade and not too drenched in the caramel sauce. Lastly, this restaurant has a really nice salsa bar where you can help yourself to about 4 or 5 different salsas, limes, radish, pickled jalapeños, and grilled onions with grilled jalapeños.

Chuy’s Night Club – Menu with Prices – Fresno

This is one of the best taco trucks in Fresno! If you are looking for really authentic tacos that taste amazing with tons of topping choices for not much money, this is your taco truck! Here’s why I love it: 1) The tortillas and meats: sooo good! Like at many other trucks, the tacos here are served with just the tortilla and meat so that you can customize them how you like them (see below). The tortillas are really good: they taste freshly made (not sure if they are actually making them in the truck, but they are super fresh none-the-less). The meats are good too: we tried four different meats, and all are yummy. I particularly recommend the al pastor, which is, in fact, cooked on a spit with fresh pineapple (the *only* way to cook al pastor!). Sooo good! 2) The toppings: there are a TON of different options, including both grilled and raw onions (go for the grilled!), beans, jalapenos, cabbage, cilantro, and five different types of salsa (the green is the best!). Also, if you do get al pastor, be sure to ask for fresh pineapple on top! 3) The price: soooo cheap! Most tacos are less than $2 each, so go ahead, eat as many as you want! Other menu options are really cheap too. 4) The staff: super friendly and fast! Why aren’t you eating here yet?!?!

Taqueria 2 Potrillos – Menu with Prices – 515 E 6th St, Corona

For taco lovers!! This place is my new best spot. Everything has been oh sooo good here! I Love this place! Wow! OK here’s the breakdown… Tacos- OMG FRESH handmade tortillas! Juicy meat! That is the base for an excellent taco. They have every kind of meat here and tripas, buche, adobada (pastor), are on point (my favs)! All the meats are delicious (I tried all of them)! Queso Fundido- yessssss….I use it to add to my tacos lol, but they also serve fresh tortillas with this entrée. The chorizo is really good on top. Burritos- you can add cheese and ask for it to be melted, and they throw a pile on the flat top grill, melt it, and put it in your burrito…again…ohh myy gawd! Sides- they have all the typical sides here PLUS the delicious grilled green onion and jalapenos. Thank you so much because I looove these! Salsa Bar- first of all…Guacatillo…then…two red salsas, and 1 green salsa all very tasty. There are also toppings for your food like onion, cilantro, lemon, carrots, radishes, etc. Agua Frescas- Guys, these have been hands down the best agua frescas I have tasted anywhere. The Jamaica…a thing of beauty. The horchata…creamy goodness I have never tasted a better one! The pina and sandia both excellent. I need to go back to try all the rest. This is so good I had to give it five stars. The area and ambiance isn’t bad either. I really appreciate this place!

Taqueria La Familia – Menu with Prices – 2642 W 32nd Ave, Denver

This is the best dine in Mexican establishment I have eaten at in North Denver, period. (Admittedly there are some taco trucks on Federal with better tacos but I consider these different genres.) If you dine in, they serve you chips with housemade salsa and warm red chile. I highly recommend the warm red chile! I ordered the combination platter with a chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and steak street taco. It was served with a side of rice and beans and your choice of tortillas. I ordered it with corn tortillas, which were amazingly fresh and excellent to scoop bites of chile relleno. The street taco was top notch and the enchilada had great flavor. My husband ordered chicken gorditas and these were great as well. We were able to dine al fresco on the small sidewalk patio and it was a wonderful experience! I already can’t wait to return. Extensive vegetarian options on the menu as well, for those looking. Also pro tip: finish your meal with a $1 churro from the Rosales Panaderia two doors down.

LA VILLA Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 12694-12706 Northlake Blvd, West Palm Beach

The best part about my parents moving way out to Loxahatchee is driving by this taco truck (trailer) when I visit them. They make all the Mexican staples, tacos, tortas, burritos, plus some more unique items you’ll never see on menus at chain Tex-Mex restaurants. They have a large variety of filling options, including some unusual ones I had to google. I’ve tried the asada, carnitas and pollo. All were solid. The reason this place gets 5 stars is simple: they press and cook fresh tortillas to order. I’ve never had this outside California. It means the tacos take a minute more than most trucks, but it’s well worth it. They also make fresh red and green salsas that are equally delicious. It may be out of the way, but if you’re a taco lover like me, it’s worth the drive.

Carnitas Michoacan – Menu with Prices – 26972 Rainbow Glen Dr, Santa Clarita

Was at Home Depot so thought I’d give it a shot, small hole in the wall place, right sized menu and the food is made right in front of you, so hopes were up it was authenticate. Ordered “street tacos”, Asada, Pastor and Carnitas with “the works”, also an order of taqueria, “to go”. Grabbed a couple of salas from the bar, green, red and avocado salsas along with pickled carrots, jalapeños and radishes. By the time I got it home, 15-20 minutes, seemed as though the tacos has kind of melted together, so it was hard to separate them, but the meat was good, WARNING: Red salsa is hot, but tasty. All in all, good food and I’ll probably give it another try, maybe eat in as they do have indoor seating.

La Nueva De Zacatecas – Menu with Prices – 1618 S 1st St, Garland

Best tortelleria around. Ok it’s totally a hole in the wall in a shopping center that has the worst parking lot. Potholes the size of moon craters, but I’m a regular. The corn tortillas are always hot and fresh just like the name of the store. This is the same people who own another store over by Bachman Lake – La Nueva Hot and Fresh which has been named best tacos in Dallas several times. The Masa is the same. The tastes are the same and all the local Mexican restaurants come with giant coolers to pick up hot tortillas from this place just like the one by Bachman. In the fridge cases they also offer 5 different types of salsa at varying spice levels. As well as homemade cheese, boiled pinto beans to turn into refried beans at home, nopales and pico de gallo. They fry their tortillas for perfect chips for chilaquiles, flat for chalupas, and taco shapes for crispy tacos. I can’t mention this place with mentioning the tacos. My favorite is the desebrada, just like my abuelita used to make. The fajita con cebolla is another favorite. Oh yeah and the bean and cheese gorditas, which is what I’m turning into from eating here too much. I wish their English was better, or my Spanish was better because sometimes It’s difficult to communicate. Also, sometimes there’s a really long line and because I can’t call out my order to the person working the grill as soon as I come in, by the time I find someone who can understand me, someone who came in behind me has purchased the last of what I came to get. Not fair, but life isn’t. I’ve usually been happy when I left and I’ll always come back!

Abelardo’s Mexican Food – Menu with Prices – 1200 S Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls

Went there Friday April 26th. When I arrived I asked the young gentleman what was good (I like to find out what the staff likes to help me decide). He said “Everything”. I ordered the two taco plate. A friend ordered the taco and enchilada plate with a shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada. When our food arrived it was interesting that the amount of beans and rice was different on each of our plates. They use a Styrofoam plate that has three sections. Since the rice was in one section, the beans in another, my friend definitely had more of each. I expected the taco to be one of three things: 1) a flour tortilla (ie softshell) 2) a hard yellow corn fried tortilla (hardshell) or 3) a white corn tortilla lightly grilled (street taco). What I received was a flour tortilla deep fried and dark brown (on the edge of burned). Same with my friend’s taco. When I picked up my taco, there was nearly an 1/8th of an inch of grease in the third section. As I held the taco, the grease literally dripped out! I thought about adding a enchilada to my order at first, but now I was glad I didn’t. Here is the take-away. My plate had less beans and rice than my friend. My ground beef tacos were greasy and had nearly burned deep fried flour tortillas with very little seasoning. My friend’s shredded beef taco meat was tender, but without flavor and his shell was also nearly burned. His enchilada had little flavor also. The salsa bar was nice, as as the other reviewer mentioned, the salsa is a little spicy. They had sliced carrots and pickled jalapeno peppers, as well as radishes and fresh lime. The menu looks like Giliberto’s, the salsa bar looks like Giliberto’s but the portion size and flavors are not there. We felt like they were trying to imitate a good thing, but fell short. We cleaned our plates there and went to Taco Johns. I had a super burrito and small Ole’s. He had a hardshell taco and small Ole’s. Kinda sad when you have to order a meal after you have just finished one….

Condado Tacos – Menu with Prices – 530 Massachusetts Ave Suite 190, Indianapolis

Disclaimer: this is a Tex-Mex place. This is not Mexican food so please don’t get confused. Ok. Onto the review. Pros: super nice staff. Our server was very knowledgeable. The atmosphere is great. The artwork is amazing. This is a great place to have drinks with friends. The wait time on food and drinks is good, it’s very speedy. Guacamole dip was delicious! 5 stars if you just want alcohol and snacks. Cons: my tacos were cold cold cold!! Flour tortillas are supposed to be heated to the point of steaming. Not lukewarm warm, and definitely not cold. They should be heated until they take on a few speckles of gold, we call this “doradito” depending on how golden it becomes. All of my flour tortillas were cold. The meat inside my taco became cold upon contact before it even reached the table. Over all I was a little disappointed. The flavor combinations are… unique. I would say it’s very subjective and hit or miss for most people. I have eaten at quite a few southwestern and Tex-Mex places. Their menu is definitely different from any typical Tex-mex place. It’s creative, I’ll give them that. The habanero-mango salsa was so sweet it almost reminded me of ketchup in combination with the pulled jackfruit. I was not feeling it. Everything on the menu was exceptionally mild (bland) or just way too sweet. The only heat came from the surf n turf taco in the form of a mild dry spice with a bitter and odd tasting ceviche. Maybe it would have been different if I built my own taco. (Although the build your own taco menu was very complicated and a little overwhelming as a first time visitor) A salsa table with taco condiments would be great. I would have loved being able to squeeze limón on my taco, add cilantro, pickled jalapeños & carrot or extra onions. That just doesn’t exist here. Even just something as small as a piping hot chile toreado to accompany my taco would have been great. I wouldn’t even mind paying extra for it. Overall I was just disappointed. I can imagine someone new to Tex-Mex food might enjoy this, but I probably won’t come back here. Qué lástima porque se me antojó. ?

KO’OX HANA’ – Menu with Prices – 214 Augusta Ave, Toronto

Ko’ox Hana is a great place to get some cheap, filling, tasty eats. They have an option where you can choose 3 items for $9.99. Some of these items include tamales, panuchos, salbutes, tacos (cochinita pibil), or some undefined vegetarian dishes. I got two salbutes and a taco. According to the menu, those are slightly sauteed tortillas covered in shredded chicken or achiote grilled pork, along with the “perfect garnish”. Slightly sauteed actually seemed more fried than sauteed, but I actually preferred it fried to slightly sauteed. I actually wasn’t asked whether I wanted the chicken or the pork and I didn’t realize until they put the chicken option down. I actually wanted the pork. I should have asked. For those of you who were wondering, the perfect garnish included was lettuce, pickled onions, avocado slices, and queso. My avocado was had some brown spots, but other than that and the chicken thing, these were very tasty, and at $10, very good. No tamales this time, but I’m excited to try a lot more next time.
