Had Combo B, shared among 5 people. It had a huge amount of a variety of different meats. It also came with a few other dishes (Doenjang Jjigae, Kimchi, and a stewed egg). None of the Option B meat is marinated, so you have to use the dipping sauce provided to have any flavor other than the meat itself. Some of us felt the quality of the meat was fine, others found many of them too tough, chewy, and fatty. No one seemed to like the huge serving of their special Kimchi, but the Doenjang Jjigae (could have had Soondubu instead) and stewed egg were small enough portions when divided by five people that they were completely eaten. Additionally (as described by others here), there is a salad-bar-like setup containing multiple traditional banchan items, and more. Most of the items I tried were edible, but nothing stood out as being particularly good. The large lettuce leaves I used to make Ssam were very wilted and limp. The Japchae was ok, but also didn’t seem particularly fresh. Service bordered on acceptable, but could have been much better. They did change our grill once, but beyond that and bringing everything to the table, that was about all we saw of them. The best thing was the price, which was quite inexpensive compared to other K-BBQ places. You get what you pay for, apparently, but if you don’t want to pay a lot, you could probably do worse than Korean BBQ King, But overall, I’ve had better experiences elsewhere (admittedly for quite a bit more money).

EM Deli Catering – Menu with Prices – 6119 La Salle Ave, Oakland

I’m so happy that I no longer need to drive across town to KP Market! They have all your basics available. Especially the thinly sliced meats to have KBBQ at home. They put out meat daily. But, the selections do get smaller as the day goes by. So, best beat to get your pork belly or brisket is once they open. The meat I get from here produces less oils than those at KP market. So I guess it’s higher quality meat. I just know that it melts in your mouth once you pull it off the grill pan and dip it in some ponzu sauce. They even have the canisters for your home grill… They have hot meals for lunch. I got a beef bento box to take to my daughter at school. And I got a bowl of japchae and the kimchi fried rice. The lady behind the counter asked how many Kimchi I wanted and I told her I just needed two. And she asked how many miso soups. Again, just two. Both sides were complimentary with the hot meals. The japchae and kimchi fried rice bowls are big enough to be shared. But, I love my noodles! The kimchi fried rice was really spicy. But their kimchi as a side usually only has a little kick. The fried rice was topped with a fried egg. I was kind of sad because I like my fried egg yolk a little runny. Overall… I love that there is a bit more diversity in Montclair District! I love that the workers are super friendly! I love that this place saves me miles and gas ?

Yoon Haeundae Galbi – Menu with Prices – 8 W 36th St, New York

I have to admit that I held a high expectation for this place given the feverish reviews and 4.5 ratings. PROS: Service was top-notch, and the staff was all polite and welcoming. Pricing was very reasonable–it is pretty consistent with other Korean BBQ places, food alone would cost you 50$+/person before tax. They offer you one beer each Yelp check-in, which is very nice, considering that offers of this kind are usually one per table. The table wine I got for $7 during happy hour tastes not bad at all. Space is a lot cooler, quieter, and more stylish than other K-bbq places. Kimchi stew was delicious (But, con here: they don’t come with rice. You need to order rice separately. WHAT??? First time ever no rice coming with a jjigae…) CONS: Their meat tastes quality, but I’m not sure if I like how they prepare them and their marinade or dippings. We got the MARINATED PACKAGE for two ($95~). It consists of four different kinds of beef: galbi, belly, sirloin steak (I might be wrong), and bulgogi. All meats are over softened to my taste. Really, they are all super, super SOFT. If you like very, very tender meat, this is the place for you. But I prefer meat with at least a bit of chewiness/hardness, which makes them taste like meat! Their galbi was softer and fattier than any of the Korean galbi I’ve had in my life, of which I’m not a huge fan. Belly and bulgogi are very very similar. The bulgogi was even more fragmentary strips of beef than the belly, which looks and tastes kind of pathetic… My favorite among the four was definitely the sirloin steak. Their marinade and dippings are very very SWEET, and they don’t serve you gochujang/spicy sauce unless you ask, which is kind of weird. Also weird: there is lettuce salad among banchan/complementary side dishes, but no lettuce for wrapping… I felt sad because I love my K-bbq meat wrapped in lettuce leaves together with the banchan and rice etc.! You can add Potato noodles for $6. Don’t do it! They really taste nothing but sweet in the bulgogi sauce. Absolutely no chewiness or anything worth eating or talking about. Just pathetic soft, overcooked, muddy noodles.

Taste of Korea – Menu with Prices – 5 S Western Ave, Oklahoma City

Ok… I’m new to Korean BBQ. But my first venture into this cuisine was great!! I already new that I liked Kimchi, and the kimchi here is mild and not too spicy. I may have been able to handle a little hotter perhaps? No complaint here about it though. The sides were all very good. I really enjoyed the Kimchi and Cucumber Kimchi. The marinated daikon was yummy. My first fish cake and it wasn’t a bad experience at all. My impression of it is sort of Fish stick taste? I hope that’s not disrespectful to say as its not a bad taste to me. Korean Beef was great and I left feeling very full and satisfied. I’ll be back for sure!

Ten Gu Ramen Menu with Prices 5397 Gosford Rd #200, Bakersfield

I’ve been here twice so far, I like that they are the only ramen place in town that actually offers kimchi. I personally think kimchi is kind of a given with ramen bowl’s, so it’s nice to see at least one place that carries it. They serve the bowls with sides in separate dishes and the sides are served cold, which i thought was strange. Kimchi I know is served cold, but the eggs and extra meat for example should NOT be served cold. I’m used to all the sides to be put INSIDE the bowl. The reason for this is because the bowls come out hot but after you add all your sides the bowl is lukewarm, which I did not like. Another thing I found rather bizarre is the fact that you only get half an egg. Really? I’ve never been to a ramen place that serves a half instead of a full egg. Can’t be that much more to just include the other half, only reason I can think of doing that is trying to save money. I really wish Japanese places served beer besides beer from Japan, most people these days enjoy craft beer w at least one IPA option, not sure people love Japanese beer that much to have it as the only option. Besides that I can say that the service is stellar, they pay close attention to its patrons and are right there to see to anything you might need.

Hoki Korean BBQ & Japanese Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 2625 Coffee Rd, Modesto

Got a message on my phone saying that the Korean BBQ was set up. Went with a group of friends. This is a review comparing it to Gen Korean BBQ and Oz Korean BBQ. This place definitely doesn’t do it right. I wouldn’t be so harsh if one of the employees hadn’t told me that they visited other BBQ houses to get an idea of how things work. First off the vents were really cheap. Waaaay too low (one of my friends kept hitting his hand on it when he would reach over to grab meat off the grill knocking the meat out of his chopsticks) the vents were off center which drove us all crazy. It IS NOT an all you can eat and the amount you pay is THE SAME as you would if you went to Gen or Oz. (Two people was $103-ish and three was $133-ish). There is a $3 charge PER PERSON for any subs PER SUB. (If you have a seafood allergy tough luck they’re still gonna charge you; which bothered me because who CHOOSES to be allergic to something?) I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt when I say the way they serve their meat is very odd. Rather than picking singular meats you have to choose between option A or B which both have pre picked meats. I’m assuming this is because they’re just starting up? And the packages are dependant on party size. Even numbers only. If you have a odd number party it gets complicated. Don’t expect an abundance of sides. The meat does not come marinated, but they send the marination out for you. The servers and staff were fairly polite. They were definitely NOT knowledgeable in ANYTHING. No idea what the “full bar” has. No drink menu as of now. HERE IS THE BEST PART. *drumroll please* When you are cooking meat the grill will get dark. The grill will begin to smell and the meat won’t cook properly. The grill will begin to burn from all the residue left behind. At any Korean BBQ house THEY ARE TRAINED TO COME AND CHECK ON THE GRILL PLATE. They are TRAINED TO SWITCH IT OUT TO A FRESH ONE AS NEEDED. It is a simple thing but very important. When we requested a new one here is what happened: Girl comes out with a container of what looks like water and a rag in it: “They said you wanted a clean grill.” She says. *staring at her wondering where the fresh grill plate was* She takes a pair of tongs out and takes the wet towel out and plops it on the hot grill. There is steam and a sizzling sound as she RUBS THE RAG AROUND FOR A FEW SECONDS. Then she takes the rag OFF THE GRILL and says, “There. All clean.” And walks away. OKAY WHAT THE FUCK?! WHERE IS GORDEN RAMSEY WHEN YOU NEED HIM?! NO, DEFINITELY NOT ALL CLEAN. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CLEANS ANY GRILL THAT WAY? Definitely NOT worth the wait, the time, or your money. Better off driving out of town. That place was a joke with the rag on the grill as it’s punch line.

Kalim Garden Korean BBQ – Menu with Prices – 5806 Woodmere Blvd, Montgomery

Food: – Ox-tail Soup ($11): 3/5 I came here because I was craving gamjatang. It was unavailable so I ordered the ox-tail soup instead. Most places that I’ve gone to have clear noodles in the soup but this place didn’t have it. There was no ox-tail either. The meat that was in there was some kind of brisket, which was actually the best part. The meat was very tender and flavorful but the soup overall was not great. Another thing to note: most of the banchan (side dishes) were not good. The kimchi and radish kimchi were well below average. Good radish kimchi should have a nice crunch to it; Kalim’s radish kimchi was more chewy than crunchy. Price: – $11 before tip. After tip and tax, I didn’t feel like the ox-tail soup was worth the price. Service: + I was seated promptly and service was quick and friendly. The waitress checked on me several times to refill my water and banchan. Ambiance: + Good lunch/dinner spot for friends or family. There are private rooms with curtains as well. Overall: – I was disappointed the gamjatang wasn’t available but didn’t let my disappointment cloud my tastebuds. The ox-tail soup at Kalim was not bad, not great. The banchan was not good. I can’t confirm, but from other reviews and some friends, it sounds like the actual Korean bbq is much better. If I was from the area, I’d give Kalim’s kbbq a try. Since I’m not, I’d recommend So Gong Dong for all your Korean food needs.

So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1633 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery

Excellent Korean noodle soup. Of course we started with all the typical small side dishes, but they were even better than what I’m used to up in Boston!! The cucumber kick was excellent, so fresh. The bean sprouts had a good amount of other toppings, I especially liked the green onions with it, and one dish was fried lotus, which I never had before and was really good. For the main, I had the vegetarian and my boyfriend had the kimchi soup. I loved my soup because it was super flavorful, full of veggies, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. I was SO full at the end. I wasn’t able to completely finish it but I got close. The kimchi variety had a little bit of beef in it, but mostly kimchi.

Heartful Made – Menu with Prices – 2009 W Commonwealth Ave Unit C, Fullerton

Omg. Bacon?? I’ve never had or seen bacon kimbap until I walked into this place. Such a wonderful place! Super clean. Super friendly lady working there. She was able to speak English and communicate everything I needed to know and answer all questions I had. Very reasonably priced. Much better than H Mart in price and quality. I don’t even want to compare. It’s like when people compare Pizza Hut to places like Fuoco pizza. Just can’t do it. Both the bacon and angus steak rolls were delicious. All the ingredients inside were proportioned perfectly and she did not skimp on the meats. Not sure how she can make any money to stay in business? But I hope they do! She was open on sinda I also bought a bag of frozen kimchi dumplings for $6. They are handmade in the store. I guess it’s a restaurant (?) but seems more like a store because everything’s packaged to go. I can’t wait to try that. She also did a great job packaging up my items. You can really tell she cares about her food and how it’s presented and that it is enjoyed! And in this case, it was…! Bacon???! Update- tried the kimchi dumplings and also tried pork. They are both good! However, be warned that the kimchi is spicy! She warned me when I bought it that the kimchi would be spicy, but I don’t mind spicy things and sometimes figure people just say that. But this was actually spicy! I liked it tho. Also tried the spam gimbap, the pork belly gimbap. Both were sooo good! Pork belly has jalapeño slices in it! Really good and all her rolls are made with care.

Myungdong Noodle Shabu-Shabu – Menu with Prices – 2560 Shepard Ave #5, Mississauga

The mandu was exceptional. Hands down the best korean dumpling I’ve had in the GTA. There’s not a lot of places around here that offers fresh mandu so this was a pleasant suprise. Their mandu is the closest in taste and texture to the ones I’ve had in South Korea. Their bossam was also amazing. Great texture, it was so soft it just melts in your mouth. They serve it with (what I believe to be) a radish kimchi which was amazing as well. You can ask for refills for the kimchi and lettuce/cabbage that comes with the bossam. Along with the dipping sauce, they offer Saeu-jeot. For those that are unfimiliar, this is fermented shrimp (very very tiny shrimps) that is used commonly as a condiment in numerous Korean dishes. I was very pleased that they served the bossam with this. Last but not least, the kimchi was BOMB. Some korean restaurants will give you half-assed kimchi that have no taste other than spiciness. This is not the case. Their kimchi is bomb. Only draw back was their kalguksu. The noodle texture was great, but I thought their soup tasted too much like msg. I’m definitely coming back to eat their mandu again, and maybe try their bibimbap or spicy stir-fried pork

Mr. Toro Carniceria – Menu with Prices – 7545 S Houghton Rd, Tucson

Goodness, this little spot makes me happy. Maybe it’s the striking crisp white subway tile behind the meat counter. Maybe it’s the perfectly stocked shelves of Mexican spices. I don’t know, this space is just beautifully designed, bright and welcoming. You’re lured through the shelves of specialty Mexican grocery items until you finally come to the hot counter with rows of stewed meats, steaming chicharron, pozole, menudo and more taunting you from behind the glass. As you’re salivating over everything you’re offered free samples of anything in the cases by the most friendly and kind staff! The staff is so happy you’re there. Want some meats to take home on the grill, they have it all. Marinated, not marinated, whatever you like. Don’t have a grill at home or lets be real, you’re just feeling lazy? Mr. Toro’s staff will throw it on the grill for you free of charge! The Birria is top notch. The red chile pork is fall apart good, not spicy but that’s okay because the flavor is wonderful. Green chile pork punching with flavor and just the right amount of heat for me. The breakfast burros, made to order are stuffed with anything you’d like on a soft flour tortilla. I’ve had one with chorizo and I would order again. Pork chicharron so crispy and tender, grabbing a bag to share is a must. You can take your meal to go after loading up on salsas and toppings at the salsa bar OR you can dine in, they have a few small bar style seating areas. Such a welcome locally owned spot in the current dining desert state of the Rita Ranch/Vail Area. Don’t live in the area? Try a Tucson adventure, just drive East on Valencia as far as you can, if you hit the dirt road you’ll know you’ve just passed it. ?

Kimo’s Hawaiian Grill – Menu with Prices – 1575 Fort Campbell Blvd A, Clarksville

In a big hunt to find Hawaiian barbecue in the area, and I came across this spot on Yelp. I am a huge Hawaiian barbecue critic, and I must say this place will be one of my regular lunch choices. – It is not a full service restaurant, but they do provide plenty of seating inside. – My overall review is a 4/5 simply because my chicken didn’t seem fresh as fresh as my short ribs. Short ribs definitely were up to standards. Flavor, fresh off the grill, and quality meat. – Sides were the perfect serving size for a “mini” as it was just for lunch. Rice was great, and the Mac wasn’t too overpowering. I would say the Mac needs more flavor, but it balances everything out so it’s not too much going on. – Such amazing service, I will be back!

Subway Restaurants – Menu with Prices – Little Creek Shoppes, 3858 E Little Creek Rd Space 21, Norfolk

Hated it went in with a good mood left without it. I went to order my sandwich and asked for my spinage to be added before it gets toasted [i like the chesse melted on it] to which the lady with the noes ring rolled her eyes i was confused but didnt say anything about it. She walked off and finished another customers sandwhich and when she came and set mine up i mentioned “the spinage will need to be covered cause it will burn” after seeing she placed it on its own side rather then under the cheese she snaps at me saying she knows and they dont ussualy do it this way then picked up all the meat and cheese and flopped them on the spinage side. I have PTSD from a incident in my teen years and at that point her snapping at me made my heart rate increase and i cassualy asked my boyfriend for the car keys to “get my phone” wich was just so i could go outside for a sec to calm my heart rate. Went back in and luckily he was done with her and handed me my cup i went over and was annoyed again seeing no tea of any kind i dont drink soda and reluctantly got viatamin water. Went to sit and eat unhappily i came in excited and happy to eat before going to the garden nearby but left in a less then happy mood i get it was easter and she probbaly didnt want to be there but the way she acts was NOT acceptable and made me not only have a episode but wrened my day.
