Rinky! Our waitress. Was awesome. If I could, I would have her as my waitress every time. She’s pleseant, friendly, and helpful. She humored all my off the wall questions with a smile and tenacity. If she didn’t know, she found the answer quick. She joked with my 3 year old, offered her crayons and coloring equipment, and was always aware of our needs, but never in the way of our experience. Not once did I have to ask for more water. She was always and only there when we needed her. Perfect waitressing. 20+ %! At the very least she should be the standard for anyone’s Koi experience. So Koi itself. Big parking lot and nice new-looking building, which is aesthetically inviting at first glance. The interior is ever better. It’s actually nicer than almost any restaurant I’ve been to in the local area. The atmosphere is comfortable, it feels… nice, its clean, and its feels kinda classy/fun. I really like how spacious it is, you dont feel cramped at all. Did I mention clean!? Holy smokes I love a clean restaurant!, it tells me they are on top of their game and they are not understaffed. Flexibility! They have it. They were kind enough to let me do a half and half with a favorite item of mine as well as add to it with no problems (hats off to.the chef!) So I ended up with a Spicy Sake-tekka Don bowl….It was very good! And Rinky even helped my visiting father-in-law get what he wanted as well, When visiting in the future he and I both know where we’ll be going to get our sushi/hibachi fix! Rinky and Koi left a great first impression. We have already talked this place up to friends and family and have plans to go here in the future for lunch/dinner/birthday parties…what ever excuse I can find. The quality of the fish was really good! First thing I do is sniff around…if It smells fishy, I’ll probably leave. It’s so clean in there! Once I received my bowl and my roll, I poke my fish to gauge the quality, it passed and I ate it like it was going out of style. No slimyness or weird coloring detected! That spicy tekka-sake don bowl will be my go-to from now on! Yum! And it’s big enough to where I can only eat another roll after before I’m satisfied. I eat alot on the daily so this one bowel will be more than enough for the average person. I forgot what my roll was called, forgive me, however I took pictures of everything. I’ll definitely learn the names by heart as I plan to try just about everything on the menu! Did I mention how clean the restrooms are? They’re not only very clean but the design is very pleasing to the eye. I love the sinks! I found myself talking with my wife about our own bathroomss at home and how much I liked theirs. Lol. The toilet was very clean as well! I’m impressed, as a dirty restroom in a restaurant will turn me away very fast. If you cant keep something everyone can see like a restroom clean, what does that say about the kitchen?…again Koi nocks it out of the park! Homeruns all around. I couldn’t find one thing to complain about, I looked all around, asked stupid questions, took pictures…etc. Also, the presentation of EVERY single item looks like the pictures! What!?…yes, I’m serious. I was shocked. Skeptical, as always; the pictures are so nice I thought, “no way it looks like that!”…then my food showed up so pretty the fist thought I had was “no one eat anything! I have to take a pictures.” My only regret is I didn’t get the hostess’ name at the front door. She was very professional and pleasant as well. Very welcoming! A bad hostess can turn me around at the door, before I even get seated…(*cough* Sole.) My wife still to this day jokes in refference to our horrid date night via Sole. The hostess there looked as if she was both freezing and hating her life at the safe time, and boy did it show!..also we soon froze as well! So, to the “mysterious”(because I forgot to get your name) young la

Ginza Grill Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 946 Orleans Rd #G1, Charleston

This is now my go-to place for Japanese food in West Ashley, and perhaps all of Charleston. I know that they just opened, but my one suggestion is that a sign be installed above their restaurant. If it wasn’t for the food pictures on the window at sidewalk level, I may have circled the parking lot or just drove off. (there was a GrubHub vehicle parked in front of those pictures, so I didn’t see them until we got much closer). Regardless, I’m SO glad that I found them and went in for dinner last night. I knew right away that I wanted to try the Tuna Poke. The tuna was amazing, but the bowl had a little too much diced onions in it, so in the future I may ask to swap that out with edamame or something similar. The bowl was completely full of food, and I chose to get it with the sushi rice (you can get it with that or salad). My wife got the combination hibachi with steak and chicken. The white sauce that came with it had it’s own squirty bottle, so you didn’t have to keep going back and forth to fill up little dip cups. Excellent entrée. We also had the firecracker sushi roll, which was cooked to perfection. A little crispy on the outside from the fried panko, with everything on the inside rolled to an amazing and immaculate bite. I love that they’re right down the road from my office too, so I can grab dinner to go on the way home or pick up a quick bite for lunch.

Tobiko Sushi – Menu with Prices – 7220 Day Creek Blvd #149, Rancho Cucamonga

I normally don’t do Yelp reviews, but I tried this place out for the first time today and I really enjoyed it. It’s not like your average sushi place, it’s better. Their food is well crafted and presented beautifully, not to mention tasty. The sushi rolls are more fancy than your typical sushi place, they’re a lot more creative too. You can tell the owner put a lot of thought and effort in creating this restaurant. We had the Surf n Turf, Hamachi Crudo, Samurai, Sunshine roll and a couple hand rolls. My personal favorites were the Samurai and Sunshine roll. The Samurai is a sweet roll and the Sunshine roll has kick of lemon in it. Everything we had tasted really fresh and rich. The chef was really friendly and gave us recommendations based off of our likes/dislikes and was very accommodating and welcoming. The staff was attentive and nice. Will definitely be back in the future!

Sushi Madre – Menu with Prices – 7124 Bob Bullock Loop, Laredo

So me and my girlfriend came here yesterday. We walked in and got sat, so far so good. My girlfriend orders her roll and I order mine. I had ordered a breaded roll ( The Hulk) since I’ve never had one before, but when I tried it, the roll tasted like a chicken nugget or something. It tasted extremely fried and it was way too hot for my taste. So I tell my server that I would like to change my roll and mention that I didn’t know it would be that hot. She tells me she will ask the manager. A few minutes later, this “manager” comes up to my table and starts talking to me like I’m an illiterate child. She was being extremely rude and was clearly super annoyed by me. She was sighing and roller her eyes, Not to mention this is my first time ever complaining about my food at any restaurant. So She continued to ask me if I even read the menu because it “clearly” says on the menu that the roll would be that hot. And as I looked, it didn’t mention that ANYWHERE. I understand it’s breaded but if I just don’t like something I’m simply not going to pay to eat it. She seemed to be catastrophizing the situation when all I simply wanted was another roll. On the bright side, the roll that I was given as a replacement( The Shakespeare) was probably the best sushi I ever tried! I just wish the manager didn’t ruin my experience. I didn’t catch her name, but she was wearing glasses.

The Wok and Roll Teriyaki – Menu with Prices – 1700 S College Ave Suite D, Fort Collins

Well, the reviews for Wok & Roll certainly are divided, almost like our current political situation. While I am mostly a centrist politically, I do find myself at an extreme opinion here. This was my first visit to Wok & Roll at this location — I used to go to the other location on occasion and while not the most authentic Japanese food it was at least a decent healthy meal. What I got when I stopped by this location was mostly inedible … the smoked sake chicken was so, so dry, and tasted of smoke but not sake, the vegetables were boring bland, and the yakitori chicken steamroller was at best lukewarm in the middle. My dog didn’t even see the point of finishing my leftovers. Why do other people like this place so much? I don’t get it.

isushi cafe midtown – Menu with Prices – 3301 NE 1st Ave #107, Miami

Went for lunch yesterday and ordered 3 sushi rolls – the shrimp tempura roll, the Miami Heat roll and the spicy salmon crunch roll. All were good and came relatively quickly. The Miami Heat roll was my favorite. We were seated quickly when we arrived but the waiter said that he was not notified of the Yelp check-in offer of free Sake and told us that the promotion had not started yet. I asked the waiter to check. Sometime after our foid was served, the waiter brought two shots of sake saying that he would give it to us but the promotion was not to start until next week. Strange because a Yelp check-in offer is not a promotion but a notification that a Yelper is in the house!! I guess the owner should educate his staff on what Yelp is. Lol!! We were going to order dessert but after clearing the table, the waiter took several minutes to come back with the check and we had to get back to work. While the food was good, the service was lacking, especially since the restaurant was empty when we arrived and there were only two other customers when we left.

Crazy Fish Sushi – Menu with Prices – 11701 San Jose Blvd #23, Jacksonville

This place was great! It’s a small, clean space with super friendly staff. I ordered a lunch special of 2 rolls with salad, that came to just under $10 total. I got the Boston roll and shrimp tempura roll. I thought both were very tasty and the presentation was lovely. I’ve been looking for a reliable place to get my sushi craving, and I really like this new spot. I wish they offered agedashi tofu and beef negimaki (something difficult to find in many sushi places in Jax for some reason). But their offerings are on par with other sushi restaurants, and I feel had a more pleasant environment. Some others I’ve been to are just too dark, or just not as tasty. The salad was a nice size, cold, crisp, and presented nicely. They also offer ramen bowls, poke bowls, and a kid’s menu. I may try a ramen bowl in the future, but I think it’s not pork belly (more the pork loin, and I prefer pork belly) so it’s hard to bring myself to order it. But I may try the shrimp tempura ramen bowl. I will definitely be back for my sushi fix and look forward to trying other dishes! Highly recommend a visit here!

Marsel?s Italian Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4252 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee

First week opening could have been better. We walked in and the have a mixture of bar tops and low tops with 99% seating for 4 at each with a lone table for 2 at the door. I think I counted 15 total tables. Surprisingly there is no hostess station or anyone to welcome you to the new restaurant. We stood there for probably 5 to 10 minutes before one of the waitresses said you can sit wherever you would like. The had a staff of four in the front, plenty if the Kitchen was on point and the staff properly trained. My party of 3 sat at low top – me, wife, toddler. Ordered our drinks and meal. Our drinks came with no ice. Why you may ask? We were told they ran out of ice. But they only been open for 2 hours at this point. This was a sign of things to come that we should have canceled our order and left. We ordered the kids spaghetti and meatballs, fish fry and an Ham/Pineapple pizza with cheese curds as an appetizer. I noticed it was starting to get warm with little to no air conditioning or air circulation. Patrons were using menus as fans. Our cheese curds came first. Not your typical curds you would expect. Basically frozen breaded ball of cheddar with a side of marinara. Disappointing to say the least. Then our sons spaghetti and meatballs came. Nicely sauced and generous meatball portions for a kids meat. He actually loved it and ate as if it was a bowl of his favorite custard from Leon’s! My fish fry was next. You had a choice of mashed potatoes or fries. I went with the fries. Only one choice of cod but you were able to choose how many pieces 4, 8, or 12. So my 4 piece with fries, slaw and a roll arrived. Nicely beer battered, fries needed a touch more salt and the slaw was excellent! I wished they would have had butter for the roll. We were told that the pizza my wife ordered would be coming out right away. But then 10 mins passed then 15 then 20 still no pizza. I started to look around and the people with no food had been sitting for over an hour with just glasses of water with no ice. Yikes! To say the least my wife was not happy. My wife had a piece of my fish and ate some fries. As my son and I finished our meals the pizza still had not arrived yet. My wife told the waitress “it would have been nice to have dinner with my family and should have known better to come to a new restaurant in its first week. Please take the pizza off our bill!” As we packed up the leftovers our pizza finally arrived in a to go box. We paid our bill – no charge for the pizza. 1 Star for the kids spaghetti that our son loved and 1 Star for the kind waitress who didn’t serve us but did her best to give us the best customer service she could with what she had. The place can only improve from here with some easy fixes – ice, air conditioning, pizza in 20 mins or less and properly trained staff. The neighborhood has been looking forward to this place for a long time and was a huge let down after all the hype. We will be back but not until you improve on the things above….

North American Sake Brewery & Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 522 2nd St SE Unit E, Charlottesville

Bottom Line, Up Front – I love how interesting and innovative the concept of this place is (a sake brewery restaurant/bar in the middle of central VA) The sake needs work. However, the food (esp the pastrami bao) is worth retuning for. Cool, comfortable venue. First, I really like seeing places like this that dare to be interesting and innovative. The venue is spacious and relaxed. I also really enjoyed the food that we ordered for the most part. The pastrami bao and the duck bao with gravy (Chinese-southern fusion) were great. I can’t say enough about the brisket they use for the pastrami. It’s awesome. The bao also has just the right amount of glutinous, semi sticky quality. It was really pleasing both texturally and taste-wise. I’m very interested in what other types of fusion plates they can come up with. Okay, now on to the sake. So the sake, in my humble opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. I think it’s great to see a place in Charlottesville try. However, if I was to return, I would probably not order any of the sake again. I ordered a flight, and the sake ranged from okay to not enjoyable. Fruit punch sake is a no-go for me. It definitely does not have the same drinkability as an infused/flavored Soju for example. The cloudy sake was probably the best out of the mix but is not something that I feel the need to try again. Disclaimer – I’m not a huge sake drinker and only drink it on rare occasions when I’m at a quality sushi restaurant when the mood strikes. Because of this, I went out later in the week to buy a standard, run-of-the-mill sake, Ozeki Dry, to see if I was that off base on my initial assessment. Ozeki Dry confirmed for me that I was not losing it. I hope they continue to work on their namesake product. Don’t take my word for it. Idk. By all means, definitely try a flight and make your own judgement. You might really like their sake. Either way, I won’t be coming back for the sake, but that’s okay because I really did enjoy the food. I can’t emphasize how good their pastrami is. They also have beer, etc to drink so the sake is not too much of an issue for me. Service was okay as well. It’s an order at the bar kind of place. I hope this place sticks around as I’m very interested in seeing how this place continues to grow, improve. Much respect to these risk takers!

Tekka Japanese Grill & Sushi Lexington KY – Menu with Prices – 2300 Sir Barton Way #110, Lexington

We have been going to this restaurant for going on 6 years. We go weekly and sometimes twice a week. From the time it was asuka and now as tekka. We will NOT be going back. I have a discount app that my employer uses and it has ALWAYS had asuka/tekka listed. We do not use it every time we are there because that’s not right but I did try to use the coupon(15% off) last Saturday night. In front of at least 20 people I had the manager belittle me not once but TWICE!!! After his waitress came over and apologized a million times he then decided he would honor it. Idc what goes on with your “partner” side of things but you NEVER make the customer feel embarrassed or in the wrong. He yelled at me once… left…. came back a second time and yelled some more. The third time is apparently when he realized just how serious this situation had gotten. By this point I couldn’t even finish my meal because I was so upset. So yes I paid for a meal I did not get to eat thanks to tWe are well known by almost all the chefs in there. This is a very regular place for us and especially when we are hosting guests. I have truly loved this restaurant until this moment but I will not go into an establishment where this behavior is acceptable. You have now lost quite a few regular customers from this. All over 15% of a $65 bill…. I hope it was worth it. UPDATE: 8/5/19 DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR MONEY. The manager has no idea how to run a business and speak to PAYING customers. His short manager and blonde waitress have had MULTIPLE complaints and still he treats his customers like trash when they point out how awful their service was.

Simple Bites Inc. – Menu with Prices – 5932 Fraser St, Vancouver

Had an appointment in the area and needed to pick up dinner for the family on the way home. Yelp reviews stood out for this place which were pretty accurate. Sterile and clean atmosphere with some seats for dine in though definitely not a date night kinda place (even for me)! Was greeted right away and was looking at the menu on the wall but offered a menu with lots of pictures which was easier to navigate. I like tech so tried to order through the computer system but there were two items I wanted but could not find so reverted to ordering at the counter. Got a Avo-cucumber roll and a California roll to snack on in the car ride home with the kids. Good quantity for the price and nicely rolled. Lots of sesame seeds and not a lot of flavour but ok. For home got the omelette rice and vegi poke bowls (full size). Liked the vegi bowl but not that impressed with the omelette bowl, think I was thinking of omurice so my misinterpretation of what I ordered probably had a lot to do with it. Also got mini rice Korean beef as well as mini rice Korean chicken, really liked these ones, and what a amazing deal for $6 or less each. Was filling and nicely flavoured. They were out of Mexican rice bowl when I came and want to try that next. Good place to try if you are in the area!

Thai Thai House Palm Bay – Menu with Prices – 215 Palm Bay Rd NE, Melbourne

We went for late lunch, so it wasn’t very busy. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. We ordered the Thai spring rolls for an appetizer, and they were okay, but would have been better with more shrimp or the addition of pork which we are accustom to, also need a little less lettuce replaced with basil. My wife ordered a sushi roll (in picture) she enjoyed it and was surprised by how big it was when it arrived. My daughter ordered the chicken pad Thai (2nd pic), both my wife and I tried some and were pleased with the flavor. I ordered the chicken panang, it tasted great, there was a decent amount of chicken, but it needed more vegetables. It literally had 1 small broccoli floret and 4 small slivers of red bell pepper. The bowl was mostly sauce. My daughter and I had the lunch special which included a bowl of Miso soup for $9.95. not a great price but not awful. My thoughts are Okay food, reasonably priced although I feel for what we got the lunch should’ve been either a dollar less or included a drink. Our service was fast, but it was during a slower part of the day, caution because I have read a few reviews where the service wasn’t so good.

Rock-n-Sake Bar & Sushi – Menu with Prices – 2913 Metairie Rd, Metairie

Great food and Bartender. But horrible manager. The bartender covers an active bar as well as to go orders while also serving tables in bar area. AND. Manager expects bartender to answer phone orders from phone behind bar — while manager stands with his elbow on hostess stand watching phone ring continually. Manager has No teamwork or customer service. Wife and I Called 8 times before finally going into store to make to go order. Manager could see how busy bartender was and that bartender couldn’t even see blinking phone light when ringing. Doesn’t have phone ringing or blinking at hostess stand . Doesn’t take to go order and overburdens bartender with that extra duty. All while manager is resting his elbow on hostess stand. This bearded guy is useless and lazzzy. Then when I was waiting for my order I called my wife . Manager says to me, ” calling here to see if we answer phone?” Low class non professional. Used to go to Rock N Sake weekly but service and management ruining this place. Two weeks ago sat at sushi bar and had no one even speak to us for 20 minutes– timed. Got up and left. Suggest others avoid this place until they restore professional teamwork management committed to customer service. It’s a shame because sushi is so good. We lost two other great Asian restaurants on METAIRIE Rd due to poor management in past few years. Where’s owners?????
