First, very, very, limited selection of fresh fish. The only real fish there was yellowtail, salmon, tuna, and a mysterious fish. I asked them what it was they said â??itâ??s white fishâ? uh, OK Iâ??ll pass on that one. Got the usual three.Salad w/ shaved carrot on top. Not the ginger dressing one expects, maybe they just poured corn syrup on top? So I sent it back and they brought seaweed salad instead… same corn syrup â??dressingâ? I didnâ??t taste any soy sauce or sesame oil, and missed the sesame seeds sprinkled on top. It was so sweet I couldnâ??t get seaweed flavor out of it, just that texture in my mouth. Finally comes my tempura. Two points: tempura sauce soooo miserably sweet it lacks any other point of flavor. I added 1/3 a bottle of soy sauce to try to save it but it was still so sweet. So I just decided to give up on that and just dipped it in pure Soy Sauce. I would recommend to the chef to change the fry oil. It tasted like old French fry oil and smelled like it to. So I couldnâ??t taste the shrimp. There was a pool of oil under the The tempura. So, I would recommend draining well in the basket and then tossing the tempura on paper towels to soak up the oil before sending the dish out to your guests. My bill was $30 (and I chose the Lunch Special.)

Koshi Sushi & Bistro – Menu with Prices – 201 W 21st St suite 9, Norfolk

This restaurant has lived up to the hype. I ordered the miso soup with extra scallions and it was the best I’ve ever had. Plenty of seaweed. I was then served the seaweed salad. They put a lot of effort in their presentation. Next to the seaweed there were white crunchy noodles with a lemon slice and two crab sticks. The seaweed had a generous portion of sesame seeds on top. I devoured it. My third item was the citrus garlic steamed edamame. It was appetizing and interesting. My tuna carpaccio was soon brought to the table. Six pieces of fresh peppered tuna in ponzu sauce and sliced green apples on top sprinkled with scallions. Very fresh. My entree was the Spicy Ninja Scallop roll. Spicy tuna with shrimp tempura with avocado on top with a slices of seared scallops. It was then topped with eel sauce. I didn’t know sushi could be this good? For a beverage I had beer. A dry Japanese beer that I took a picture of and a Kirin. I enjoyed the Kirin the most. I strongly suggest checking out this bistro! I asked when the fish comes in and they remarked three times a week. You can walk in and not smell anything.

Tsunami Express – Menu with Prices – 255 N Queen St, Lancaster

Best sushi I have had in PA. Flavors are great. Best poke available in lancaster. All the fish is fresh and tasty, well prepared, and the other elements are spot on. Location is where that donut shop used to be across from the wine and spirits store. Ambiance is laid back, w disposable stuff, not distracting like the fancy places that smear sauces over the plates and over-garnish. In the true tradition of a “dive,” like a lobster shack on the coast of maine w plastic-covered picnic tables or a philly food truck with no seating, you will get great food for cheap and no frippery. Kar is there to make great sushi, and that’s what you get. One specific recommendation is the seaweed salad…unlike other sushi joints that mix the seaweed w sesame seeds, sesame oil etc and charge $8 for a quarter cup, at Tsunami the seaweed salad is an awesome base then topped with avocado, tobiko, mango, and sauces. I plan to return and sample each dish offered here.

Kyoto Sushi Bar & Hibachi Grill – Menu with Prices – 15525 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Server was nice, I arrived at an early hour for lunch, seated and ordered cucumber salad, sashimi, vegetable tempura, and unsweetened tea. Ordered unsweetened tea but the tea came out to be sweet. I am not sure what I was expecting but I wanted hot brewed tea, I guess that was a little too much to ask and this is probably not a standard Japanese restaurant (which is not opened by Japanese people anyways… It was definitely too much to ask) Cucumber salad was terribly sweet and no flavor. It was just peeled cucumber with syrup and wasabi. The sashimi looked pretty good, very small portion for the price, but I guess it made sense since it was under the appetizer section. The worst was the tempura that I couldn’t even tell it was tempura. The batter was just egg and flour mix, it’s not fluffy at all and the taste was blend. Super disappointing meal overall, but it still deserved 2 stars for not bad service. But I got food poisoned that afternoon, the first time in my life got food poisoned from sashimi. Or maybe it was something else I don’t know. Felt terrible. Save your money somewhere else, Williamsburg is probably worth the drive for better sushi.

Meiga Sushi – Menu with Prices – 1379 E Highland Ave, San Bernardino

Had dinner in the middle of the week here at the recommendation of my son. The restaurant was very clean and organized. At first I thought the music was too loud but once we set down at our booth it was perfect. You could have a conversation at your table but not hear other table conversations. Husband ordered seaweed salad, suchimi and an ice tea. I ordered Bentos box with teriyaki chicken, beef, gozas, salad and tempura. Orders arrive very quickly and the waitress was very attentive. The restaurant even gave us a few shrimp tempura for free. Hubby loved his meal and said the fish was very fresh and flavorful. Seaweed salad was tangy and the dressing was tangy. I enjoyed everything except the beef teriyaki (reason for the 4 stars) the beef was tuff and had a lot of grissel, which was a bummer. But the goza, chicken, rice and salad was very good. Their ginger dressing was excellent and I ended up asking for more and poured it over my rice. We ended the meal with free ice cream. Plan to eat there again.

Poke Bistro – Menu with Prices – 2570 S Vineyard Ave B, Ontario

Had a chance to grab lunch here. Figured that poke bowls are keto but after eating I think I might have got some ingredients that got me out of ketosis because I could taste the sweetness such as in the seaweed salad, oh well. It’s not the greatest value here for the price you pay and what you get but haven’t compared it to other local poke spots. I just know you get way more food for the price in L.A. The concept is basic, select either burrito, regular (3 scoops poke), large (5 scoops) or Inari 3/3 fish toppings. Then Step 2 is to select a base with the following choices: o White rice o Brown rice o Rice amd salad o Salad Then you can get 1 of each the following: o Avocado $1 extra o Crab meat o Seaweed salad o Cucumber salad o Green onion o Ginger o Pineapple o Edemame o Jalapeño o Cilantro Step 4 is fish of choice: Salmon Spicy salmon Tuna Spicy tuna Cooked shrimp Octopus Crawfish Scallop Sauces are the added: Ponzu, sesame oil, spicy mayo, creamy lemon, eel sauce Step 6: Furikake, Nori, wasabi and masago Burrito is $7.99 Regular is $8.99 Large is $11.99 Inari is $8.99 Pretty good overall in taste and service is friendly. They have Happy Hour 3-5 pm Monday thru Friday when you can get free ramen or miso soup with a bowl purchase. A cup of Korean ramen bowl is $4.99 and Avocado Poke cups are $2.99. I’d come back if I’m in the area.

Harvest House Delaware – Menu with Prices – 1204 Washington St, Wilmington

Today my job provided us with lunch from Harvest House to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. We ordered from the catering menu and chose the “Create your own Bowl” option. There were plenty of options, but I chose to make my bowl with the following: Brown rice, grilled shrimp, roasted sweet corn, and Sesame Ginger sauce. I packed light because it was for the whole staff. Anywho, it was delicious! The shrimp was fresh and cooked to perfection. The sweet corn was a great touch with the sesame ginger sauce. It was my first time trying food from there and I’m definitely going to go there on my own to give more things a try. One thing, we did also have a choice of citrus vinaigrette sauce and it was a no for me. I took a sip and No thanks. That’s all.

OKIPOKI Menu with Prices 41 State St, Albany

OKIPOKI is a trendy new eatery in downtown Albany that offers well-priced, good sized portions of poke, sushi burritos and taikyaki. Ambiance- clean, spacious and lots of natural lighting. This is a casual eatery that reminds me of something I would find on the west coast. Food- overall the raw fish is really high quality, probably the best quality in the area. The pieces are large and taste fresh. Kobe Burrito- well sized, generous amount of tuna and salmon. I think the only thing that would improve this burrito is adding some furikake or sesame seasoning to add more crunch besides the seaweed salad. However I was still very impressed with the quality and reasonable price. Salmon poke bowl- Great price and huge portion! Love how avocado and mango are not extra. They are great ingredients to add to your poke bowl for flavor and texture. The ginger sauce added a lot of flavor too. I would recommend using rice + mixed greens as your base though to add more texture. Taiyaki- excellent matcha ice cream!! The matcha flavor was strong and was not very sweet which is exactly how I like it. The taiyaki cone was very fresh and warm too. They have a good selection of toppings. I would recommend that they provide sturdier wrapping and/bowl for the ice cream though because it started to melt fast and napkins were enough to sustain the huge sized taiyaki. Overall OKIPOKI is excellent. Great prices, great fish and lots of options

Tsunami Sushi & Hibachi – Menu with Prices – 114 N Tennessee Ave #101, Lakeland

I’d have to say over all this place is just ok. The soup that all our meals came with was the miso soup and no one at our table liked it, no one ate it. The ginger salad it dame with was good though. The crab Rangoon was AMAZING one of the best I’ve ever had. You could actually taste the sweet crab in it and not just a bunch of cream cheese. The dumplings were good as well, nothing special but we all liked them. I ordered the sushi number 2 lunch combo that came with the scorpion roll and Florida roll, they were good but not my fav only because I do not like the rolls with fried stuff, I’d prefer raw sushi. Also it said it had cream cheese in the scorpion roll but there was barley any in like 2 of the rolls and the rest had none. My con worker got the Maki lunch combo which came with a phili roll and tempura roll. The seaweed in the Phili roll was very chewy but had a great amount of cream cheese. The tempura roll was fried and it was my friends favorite of all but she still didn’t love it. The ramen was absolutely awful. It literally tasted like pork, veggies and noodles in water. It had NO flavor. My friend and I literally did not eat it. I told the waitress once and she said she would let them know in the back, when she came back to the table to ask about checks she said who’s check is the ramen going on. I asked her did you let them know in the back the ramen was awful and she said I’ll do that now. She came back with a man that had an attitude because we didn’t like it and tried to argue with me saying I’ve never had the miso broth before because they all taste like water… not true. We finally got them to take it off the bill. One more thing, my other co worker ordered a shrimp tempura roll but received a crab tempura roll. When she asked about what was in it the waitress said shredded shrimp lol. I said there is no way that is shrimp, it is red and white. It then took about 20 mins to get her correct roll.

Miyabi é??å?³å±? – Menu with Prices – 1315 West Grand Parkway South Suite 108, Katy

Nice quaint and trendy Japanese restaurant located near Katy Mills. The menu is reasonably priced and while there are quite a few options for sushi/sashimi, there’s also a smaller section for ramen, udon, tempura, etc. The modern lighting inside is not too distracting yet gives a hip vibe. My party of three ordered some apps, entrees, and desserts to share. We had RAMEN that came with a good portion of toppings including chashu pork (soft and flavorful), soft boiled egg (yolk the way I like it which is still semi-runny), corn, fish surimi slices, bamboo shoots, and green onions. The broth was super as the creaminess/cloudiness made it very appetizing and rich. The noodles itself were on par, slightly soft and I prefer them more bouncy. The SEXY MAMA ROLL was packed with good quality fish and scallops…loved the tempura crunch on top too. The TAKOYAKI had a good consistency and chew in each bite with a handful of squid inside and bonito outside. We also had the SUSHI DELUXE which was a good platter of fresh tasting sushi that is well balanced in terms of fish to rice ratio. The CALAMARI was pretty good but mostly large rings of squid (almost like onion rings), and were bouncy/kind of chewy. The batter stayed on well when I dipped it into the sweet and tangy sauce on the side. Lastly, we were able to try the BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM (special and not usually available we were told). It was smooth and creamy, had a light sesame flavor and enjoyable. There are other flavors like red bean and green tea I need to try next time. Overall a good spot to fulfill Japanese food cravings especially after some shopping or dinner with sushi loving friends. Service friendly and efficient, plus it’s BYOB/wine with no corking fee.

Poke Poke – Sushi Unrolled Menu with Prices 312 S State St, Ann Arbor

Very modern space on S. State near campus. It was quite busy in there during lunch and the line was quite long which I’m assuming is because this place is relatively new…but also the students are back for fall term. I can only imagine it’ll continue being busy as the new school year starts. Food-wise, they have some very fresh looking ingredients and even vegetarian and vegan options. For herbivores, you can order one of their signature bowls or make your own. Their Aloha Tofu Bowl is what I wanted which had: tofu, carrot, cabbage, avocado, sesame seeds, pickled ginger, watermelon radish, edamame, seaweed salad and citrus ponzu. So they have tofu. However, they also have something called ahimi which is vegan tuna made from tomatoes, salt and spices. I wanted to basically get the Aloha Tofu Bowl but they said no meat substitutions because I wanted one scoop of tofu and one of the ahimi, so I had to make my own bowl and basically just ask for that. So I made my own bowl over spring mix with all those ingredients, plus the ahimi and tofu but instead of ponzu (since most ponzu is made with fish sauce) I got the Gochujang sweet chili sauce. Overall, the flavors and bowl were very tasty! The ahimi is a very interesting texture though a bit heavy on the sesame oil. I give this place a solid 4 stars. I dock a star because I had to make my own bowl instead of being able to do one of each “protein” or “meat” in the vegetarian bowl or modify the existing bowl; and because I had to make my own there were extra charges for avocado and seaweed salad ($1 and $1.50 respectively), but those are already part of the tofu bowl. So a regular bowl there as is like $12 and because I had to make my own I ended up spending closer to $15. So keep that in mind — it can add up!

WaiWai Poke Bar and Café – Mobile – Menu with Prices – 6808 Airport Blvd Suite C, Mobile

Definitely on my list for go-to poke now!! So first off, I want to state that i’m not usually a poke fan. I’ve tried a few poke places from different areas and states and just never found the place that I enjoyed. Although i’ve had decent experiences at other ones, I still decided to try this new poke place that popped up. So they have a build your own bowl option or a list of signature bowls that you can choose from. Even with the signature bowls you can pick whatever base, 5 toppings, and unlimited add-ons with it! What I ordered: “Aloha” [1 scoop marinate salmon,1 scoop marinate tuna, sesame oil, sea salt, cilantro, red onion, and ginger wasabi sauce] with rice base Toppings: edamame, kimchi, seaweed salad, sweet egg, orange tobiko Add-Ons: nori, crispy garlic, light drizzle of eel sauce The marinated salmon and tuna are to die for!! The fish was fresh and the marinade was delicious yet light where you could still enjoy the fish taste. It may not be for everyone, but they do let you sample the fish beforehand to see if you like it! With the aloha, I really liked the combination of the signature bowl. The ginger wasabi sauce wasn’t too strong. The size of the bowl is also very generous with just the 2 scoop protein. And the toppings I chose were good and I felt went well with the bowl – I really loved the kimchi (very flavorful and much better than I would have expected!) Our very friendly poke maker (didn’t catch his name) recommended the italian soda with ice cream sorbet to us -lychee + raspberry; definitely an interesting drink since it has the italian soda. It was sweet, light, and refreshing! tl;dr: Overall the experience was great – great server, great food, great atmosphere. I would definitely go again and will recommend to my other friends. Check the pics out!!

Cha for Tea Café – Menu with Prices – Village Center, 4740 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine

We’ve ordered from them via Postmates a few times now and we’ve not been disappointed! I’m addicted to their Crispy Chicken Snack (popcorn chicken), so that’s a go-to appy for us. You can order it any spice range from none to flay-the-flesh-from-your-tongue. I’m really trying to watch what I eat and they have some nice options like grilled chicken (no skin), “Freshly grilled chicken marinated in rice wine and sweet garlic sauce. Served with sweet corn, spring mix salad with ginger sesame dressing, and your choice of Rice or Egg Noodle” and their basil chicken which is, “marinated in fresh basil sauce, simmered to perfection with rice wine and ti kuan yin tea.” All of their entrees come with corn, rice or egg noodles and spring greens salad with the main item. You then get options to customize your order by swapping out rice, noodles, corn, salad for others in this list. Example: I skipped the corn and had double salad (gave my rice to my hubs). The portions are generous, especially the egg noodles option) and their prices are very reasonable. All in all, I really enjoy their food but I cannot speak to the actual restaurant because we’re Postmates all the way. So if you see them on Postmates don’t be afraid to give them a chance.
