Time for Spring cleaning and shredding! I was fortunate enough (only days before) to learn of the first annual Shredding & BBQ event at REMAX on Lakeway Dr. I grabbed a few bags of papers and loaded my car. Well, maybe a few more than a few. The truck was HUGE and they welcomed everyone through the line. They guys were efficient and funny. Don’t be shy, they are used to handling LOTS of papers and securing them. George and the crew know what they are doing! First, they loaded your papers into giant garbage cans and then on to the truck. They even explained to us how the shredded paper gets recycled onto more usable materials. The company is located on Meador Ave. Although they said if you come to their location it will cost you $45 to shred a full can and $25 for 1/2 can. **inside tip** track them down at any community shredding event, but please send a thank you or doughnuts to the business sponsoring the event as they pay a hefty hourly fee for this service on behalf of their customers and the community.

Southern Cofe Menu with Prices 8418 Scotland Ave, Baton Rouge

I’ve been wanting to stop by here for ages, so glad they hosted this food truck event which gave me more than enough reason to make the trek over to this side of town. I was excited because I knew that Cupcake Junkie would be in attendance, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there were a number of vegan options participating in this event. Might I add, the simple fact that the owner would host this event speaks bounds to his love for his community and fellow entrepreneurs! What I loved most about this place was the artsy vibe it has. I felt right at home with my book in the big comfy couches they have inside. Also, I love that they serve up much more than coffee. There are green juices and smoothies to choose from, vegan eats, and hot and cold lunch options via sandwiches or soups. It’s great that these types of healthy options are provided in a community where there seems to be a deficit. We made sure to bring the chess board on this visit, I’m certain we will be back again

Something Sweet Inc – Menu with Prices – 724 Grand Ave, New Haven

This company donated pies to Community Services Pie in the Sky charity event and I had the fortune of getting one. This was by far the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had in my life! And I’ve had quite a few… The taste and consistence were remarkable. It actually reminded me of pumpkin ice cream (but not in a weird way!). Try it!

Shred415 Highlands – Menu with Prices – 642 Baxter Ave Suite 101, Louisville

Shred 415 has been open at it’s highlands location for 6 months! I’ve been going to classes at Shred 415 for 2 months. I took advantage of the option to take my first class free. After my class I filled out the survey that was emailed to me which gave me the option to attend a second class for free. After my second class I was hooked and signed up. Shred 415 has multiple class pack options to purchase. The entire facility is very clean and the provide quality equipment to use in class. The bathroom has everything you would need to prep yourself after class…. showers, towels, hairdryer, dry shampoo, hair spray. I enjoy that the class is in a cool temperature controlled studio. I’ve never been disappointed with the music playlist chosen for a class. I always catch myself singing along or pushing myself harder because of the beat. Shred 415 offers one hour classes that are divided into intervals, alternating between treadmill drills and strength training. Most classes are the standard four 15 minute intervals. I like that some instructors switch it up and do six 10 minute intervals or 2 fifteen minutes, 2 ten minutes, and 2 five minute intervals. I like to rotate between starting on the treadmill or on the floor. I try to attend a class 3-4 times per week. Shred 415 uses the MindBody app to sign up for classes. Each day they list multiple times with the instructor and the type of class (total body, arms & abs, butt & legs). I prefer to work out in the morning and they offer multiple class times for me to pick from. Some class times even offer childcare during the class, and it’s clearly marked on the MindBody app. My first class I made it very clear that I WILL NOT be running on the treadmills … the owner and instructor assured me that the treadmill intervals will be at my own pace. Approaching the end of my first two months and I’m occasionally running on the treadmill while in class. I love the entire staff at Shred 415. When I walk in the front door the staff knows my name and checks me in. The instructors give name shout outs to encourage during class…. and sometimes hearing my name gives me that extra push that I needed! The owner, Kathleen, very friendly and present. She quickly responded to my emails and made signing up a breeze! Thank you to Kathleen and the entire staff for making my morning work outs great! Come give Shred 415 a chance!

PB & J’s Lunch Box – Menu with Prices – 989 James St, Syracuse

I came to the Everson today for the food truck and music fest. I was very excited to try PB&J lunchbox. I ordered a grilled PB&J with strawberry jam, loaded smashed potatoes, and an everything but the lunchbox cookie. The grilled PB&J was huge. A sandwich and a half. And it came out piping hot. But honestly, it just tasted like a greasy version of toast with peanut butter. I thought it would be more special. It wasn’t. I was seriously disappointed. The loaded smashed potatoes were ok. 3 small salt potatoes smashed and loaded with cheese, bacon, and sour cream. I think they would’ve been better if they were a little crispy. The cookie had oatmeal, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and nuts. The onlly thing I tasted were the chocolate chips and it was really dry. Not impressed at all. Overall, didn’t love it. I had serious food envy of my boyfriend and my son who got food from the other food truck.

Moco Game Room & Hot Dog Bar – Menu with Prices – 1600 E Ave NE, Cedar Rapids

I love giving positive comments to businesses that really impress me. just paid $24 for 3 chili cheese hotdogs w/ coleslaw. Before I gave the kind bartnender my card, I asked her why 3 hotdogs cost 24 bucks. She told me, “they’re all beef…. even the casing…” she said with excitement, “and they’re kosher!” So I’m thinking to myself that I’m about to devour the world’s best hotdog! Mind you, I eat the same style hot dog, with the same fixings, often when I go through Chicago and down South where I live! I was so blown away that I ate 2 bites and then gave the other 2 1/2 hot dogs to my dog so she could feel the excitement. If it was up to her, y’all would get 5 stars. I was hoping to find a place to grab a bite next time I’m in town waiting for my truck to get loaded. Love’s truck stop, I’m sad to say, has a better tasting all beef hotdog for 1/10th of the cost. I am sure you have many happy customers who are accustomed to the taste of your hotdogs, and that they will continue to patronage your business for years to come. But I ain’t one and I will let truckers know on the trucker app to not waste nearly 2 hours of their wages and instead spend 3 bucks for all beef and better tasting dogs at the truckstops. I am still dumbfounded that I just poorly spent 24 dollars.

The Station at Sunset Bar – Menu with Prices – 145 E Sunset Rd suite c-400, El Paso

Are you a lover of all things local? Do you like to find hidden gems? Do you like taking Instagram-worthy pictures? Do you like delectable food and drinks? Do you like shopping at boutiques? If you answered “yes” to any of these, you need to head over to The Substation stat! Sunset Drive is becoming a real hub for celebrating amazing locally owned businesses and The Substation does just that. It’s been in the works for around a year (at least that’s how long I’ve known about it) and it’s a local paradise. So it’s a shopping plaza, but it’s super pedestrian friendly since the parking is all surrounding the businesses and they put a lot of attention into the details with their use of recycled materials. From what I remember reading, The Substation purchased a lot of the materials used for decoration purposes (like the poles used for the lift fixtures and much of the artwork instillations you’ll find) from one of the buildings that was in the process of being demolished by UTEP. Historical and nice to look at. Beyond that, they also made sure to include a lot of shrubbery, small trees, and flowers to give the area a nice green feel in an area where you don’t typically see a lot of greenery (you’ll also have a similar feel across the street at 150 Sunset so it’s nice to see the neighborhood going this route). Most businesses over here are still in their soft openings because shops are still being constructed and filled, but even so I enjoyed walking around and checking out the businesses that are already opened. Right now there’s a children’s boutique, a women’s clothing boutique, 2Ten (you NEED to try their 2Ten Cookie Butter Waffles!), Ardovino’s Pizza, and The Blend. There’s space for at least 15 more shops so it will be interesting to see what opens next.

The Healthy Cafe Catering Menu with Prices 50 Yardboro Ave, Albany

I was recommended to order from The Healthy Cafe Catering Company from a few coworkers for an upcoming staff event. I called and spoke to Paula, who was just so patient answering my millions of questions. We have a few very specific diets that needed to be accommodated and Paula was excellent about communicating via phone and email to ensure everything was handled. If she didn’t know the answer right away, she would ask the kitchen staff and then get back to me with the specifics. This was important to us since we have a few GF and vegan employees we needed to feed. We didn’t exclusively use The Healthy Cafe Catering Company for our event, but we did order plenty of food from them to substantiate this review. Included in the cost is delivery service, which is fantastically PROMPT. When you tell them a time (even :15 they are there!!) Everyone was so friendly and easy to work with. The quinoa salad with asian dressing was PHENOMENAL! Next time we must order a larger tray of the coconut curry tofu since all the meat eaters just couldn’t get enough of it!! The chipotle tempeh was surprisingly amazing and filling. I have never had tempeh before but I enjoyed the texture and how filling it was. I look forward to working with the Healthy Cafe Catering Company on plenty more work events. Thank you!!!

Bimbo Bakeries USA – Menu with Prices – 610 Big Bear Blvd, Columbia

Unfortunately the Columbia Sara Lee outlet was abruptly closed without notice. Representatives from Bimbo Bakery went to the establishment and fired the employees and closed the outlet. The business states they take care of their employees and customers but that is not true. I’ve tried contacting the company by phone, email and person to explain the benefit of the business to the community but none of the attempts have been returned. I was told by a young manager that all bread is being thrown in the dumpster versus being provided to a local shelter or being offered as animal feed. It is sad that a company treats their employees and community with so little caring and concern.

Mr. Sugar Rush – Menu with Prices – 1408 N Riverfront Blvd suite 271, Dallas

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Sugar Rush! Their staff was friendly and amazing and so easy to work with! They came out to our fundraising event when I called them last minute due to a different truck no-showing for our event day of. Mr. Sugar Rush absolutely saved the day! All of our guests at the Heard Museum were so excited to have sweet treats provided out of Mr. Sugar Rush?s adorable LED lit truck, and were saying many positive things about the quality of the ice cream and snow cones. The coconut snow cone I had was DELICIOUS. We will definitely be booking them again, and I hope you book them too!

Che Butter Jonez Menu with Prices 680 Murphy Ave SW, Atlanta

Found them at Food Truck Tuesdayâ??s in Lilburn. Ordered the ball-less lamb and the Brussels sprouts. Fâ??N AMAZING! Wowza! When I think of food trucks, I think of fast food. This food was fast (reasonably) – but gourmet excellence from a truck! A TRUCK!!!! How is that possible???? It cost me $20, including bottled water. It was worth every penny! Holy schmoly I may have to stalk them.

Round1 Bowling & Amusement Menu with Prices 6600 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque

There were multiple issues with the bowling lane regarding the balls getting stuck and not returning multiple times. I complained to the bowling lane “coordinator” (little girl with a pony tail) who was snappy and rude saying said no there’s no compensation. I then complained to the 20 year old Chinese manager who said “we didn’t deserve” compensation because their machine only broke twice and it wasn’t long enough. I told him I’ve spent over $100.. total that night was about $250 and that’s even giving us compensation for bad service wouldn’t cost them a dime. He didn’t care at all. I’ll think twice if I come back.. still better than main event but worse than Dave and busters. After googling the company and finding its owne by a Japanese company makes sense why more than half the games aren’t in English!

Smartmouth Brewing Pilot House – Menu with Prices – 313 32nd St, Virginia Beach

I adore Smartmouth Pilot House! First let me say- I’m not a beer-fanatic. I don’t adventure outside of the styles that I know I like and most of the time I have come to Smartmouth it was for the food trucks or pop up restaurants. So do I like their beer? Yeah- the ones I have tried have been good, because I ordered beer that I knew I would enjoy. My go to is their milk stout – cowcatcher. Do I feel like I know beer well enough to rank how it compares to other breweries though? Nah, so I’m not even going to try. The rest of this review is going to be me loving on the Smartmouth Pilot House experience which is where they earned all five shiny stars from me! I love the location! It is on the Northend of the Oceanfront which I find to be more laid back vs the rest of the Oceanfront. It is close to the beach so it makes for a great date night when you can walk down and check out King Neptune just a few blocks away, but it’s location off the strip keeps it from getting over crowded. Parking is also pretty easy to score in their lot, metered on the street, or in the garage across the street. I find it easier to get than their Norfolk location. Just don’t park in the retail lot on the same block. I was aggressively scolded for doing so by one of the business owners back when Smartmouth just opened. They have signs to warn you now, but the memory of the angry man threatening to tow me if he ever sees my car there again is all the reminder I need to avoid the parking lot. VA law requires some type of food service where alcohol is sold. I don’t totally know the specifics of the law, but since I’m more of a foodie than a beer aficionado I’m totally on board with whatever it says. This location usually rotates between the same handful of food trucks, but it is enough variety that I don’t get bored even during the months I end up here more than I probably should. It is my go to spot when I’m feeling “food truck takeout.” Sometimes they will even have restaurants with a brick-and-mortar location in another part of town “pop-up” for the day. They have their food truck schedule on their website if you aren’t into culinary surprises or if you just want to see if this is where you can catch a specific food truck you have been trying to track down. Another win for this location is all their events and community collaborations! They can divide their restaurant making it a perfect spot to host a private event, but they also partner with local charities and organizations to host events that are open to the public. I usually keep an eye on their Facebook to find out what they are up to. This is also where I usually find out if they are completely closed for a private event that takes up the entire space. It doesn’t happen too often, but it is worth double checking if you’re traveling far just to pay them a visit. Hopefully, I will gain some more beer knowledge to update this review with later. In the meantime, I love the experience and enjoy the beer and rotating food options! This is a great place to hang out!
