If you’re ever debating where to go in Bellingham for ramen (or really any Japanese food) stop the debate right now, because Hokkai is THE SPOT. Service? Phenomenal, even when they’re busy. Food comes out so fast and everyone who works here is kind and friendly! Atmosphere? Cozy enough to feel homey, roomy enough that you’re not bumping into the people at the next table over. I love the decorations and beautiful wood! And the food. The food!!! It’s delicious and such a good value! What really blows me away is the sushi, the quality of fish for that price?? Amazing. But everything I’ve tried, from ramen to curry, has always been delicious. Being from Hawaii, I grew up with a lot of Japanese food and ramen is one of my favorite meals. Hokkai is the only place in Bellingham that I trust and recommend to everyone I know.

Piranha Killer Ramen Menu with Prices 309 Curtis Mathes Way #149, Arlington

I went a different route today & instead of getting ramen I got sushi. Their sushi selection isn’t very large and the quantity you get isn’t normally the portion you’d get at normal sushi restaurants. Their rolls are more on the smaller end, maybe an inch at most thick. It’s really not a lot and you’d have to order 2-4 rolls to really get full depending on your stomach. The quality was like buffet sushi. I honestly wouldn’t recommend gong the sushi route. Along with sushi, we also ordered the Uni Pasta and that was actually pretty good. The amount you get wasn’t worth the price point. Although it was a little fishy, it was minor enough to overlook. Service today was a little iffy. Granted it’s a Sunday night during dinner rush hour. It took longer than expected for our food to come out and it seemed like some of it was forgotten. Overall, if this was my first time and I had went the sushi route, I wouldn’t have came back. I don’t recommend the sushi and for someone who doesn’t like ramen and loves sushi – GO WITH RAMEN !!!

Takohachi Japanese Restaurant Menu with Prices 3249 Columbia Pike, Arlington

Little about me: I’m Japanese American who speaks the language and cooks Japanese food at home. I rarely review Japanese restaurant since many places don’t serve traditional Japanese cuisine, and when restaurant is authentic, a lot of the time it is hard for me to take my two very young kids along to eat since they are considered “high end” and kids are not really welcomed. Owner of Takohachi also owns the Japanese style yakiniku shop Satsuma, in Bethesda. Satsuma has been a great addition to DC area’s Japanese community and everyone was excited when it opened up. So we were equally excited to have a new restaurant by the same owner opening up in NoVA, and our family has been frequenting here since the opening. Takohachi is not a yakiniku place (sorry if I lead you on). But they do have the famous dollar a piece sushi and a pretty good ramen, which my son loves. And menu has been well thought out and are reasonably priced. Especially the lunch time menu has a great price point! Many items on the menu are typical Japanese food that everybody eats in Japan. But what’s important is that they are done right. My family tends to do rolls and sushi plus couple of small plates here, but for the full Japanese meal experience, try foods like tonkatsu, chicken karaage, nasu dengaku, and also the specials they have. Oh and do try desserts too! The house made sweets are awesome. If you have kids, this restaurant is spacious enough for you to roll in with a baby stroller (as long as it’s not crowded) and that is something I LOVE. There is high chair and the bathroom is pretty clean. Parking is free too. To be fair, yes you can get a better sushi somewhere else. But you will be paying A LOT MORE. I take this quality and price any day. And yes, there are other ramen shops out there that may serve something better, but again the price! I think the restaurant has something for everyone, since they do offer a lot of “typical” Japanese food people expect, though I hope people will try something new rather than settle with chicken teriyaki or eel donburi. If you want to go to a Japanese food place that is authentic, without the huge price tag, Takohachi is the place to go. Order something new and experience “home style” cooking of Japan ?

Shu Sushi Ramen & Grill – Menu with Prices – 4929 W Chandler Blvd #3, Chandler

The owner of this restaurant used to own Sushi Ken in Ahwatukee after she bought it from the original owners. It was great back then. After selling Sushi Ken just over a year ago, she opened this place, Shu Sushi Grill and it’s clear she brought with her the love and passion for her food and her customers. Her husband is the sushi chef and their adorable little girls can regularly be found in the restaurant hanging with mom and dad. The sushi is incredibly fresh, the owner is part of a special group that has access to the best fish as soon as it’s available and it shows, so fresh and delicious. I love that she mixes some Korean options and specialties along with the Japanese cuisine options – it’s almost fusion-ish and a great mix up from solely traditional Japanese options. She maintains some five dollar sushi roll specials every day and they are great. The menu is robust and offers options for everyone. The Ramen soup is phenomenal, the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed and clean. The service was excellent! I definitely recommend trying this restaurant, it could well become one of your regular favorites.

Bento Sushi – Menu with Prices – 155 Clarke Rd, London

ol so if youre in the east end and want sushi this is like a tiny japanese restaurant in a grocery store but WOW that rice be puffy and perfect. i ate the family size

Ramen Hakata – Menu with Prices – 8300 Gaylord Pkwy #16, Frisco

I love this ramen spot, and I’m so glad they opened a location in Allen! I had never really had true ramen before, most of my ramen experience was from a packet. After we tried a spot in Dallas I was craving ramen daily, but didn’t want to drive out to Dallas. I tried a few place in Plano that did not meet my expectations and then finally found this place! The ramen here, not matter which one you get, is delicious. The tonkatsu is my favorite, and what a recommend to everyone, especially if you’re new to ramen. The broth is so meaty and delicious, unlike anything else. The noodles are always cooked perfect, not too soft or mushy. The miso ramen is also great, but once you e had tonkatsu, it’s hard to try anything different! The spicy tonkatsu is very spicy! To beware there. I’ve also had the udon, which isn’t always my favorite, but there’s is delicious, and the noodles are so tasty. The space is a small and quaint and very well kept. I love their wood decor, it adds a lot to the experience. If you’re staying for dessert try the strawberry mochi! The chocolate one is okay, but strawberry is the bomb! I highly recommend checking this place out if you like delicious ramen! They have multiple locations in the metroplex so you might have one near you if this one is too far.

Tougen Japanese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 7414 Central Ave, Toledo

Tougen is one of my favorite sushi spots in Toledo. The service is top notch, and it is not super noisy or full of pretentious clientele. It’s not very big, which I think is a plus, because you get a more intimate experience. I feel like I can eat my meal in peace and not have to yell in order to communicate with the person I came here with. Plus I can wear my casual outfit and still get an amazing meal for a very good price! My boyfriend and I come here once a week, and even though they have an amazing selection, we have found our favorites. The owner (Jung/John?) even remembers our order, which I think is a nice touch. I love their chirashi (sushi rice with raw fish on top). The fish is fresh, and every time I order it I get a different selection of fish, which is always fun. I also love the special furikake topping they put on the rice because it is seriously addictive, I dream about it at work all the time. Also, I think it is a great price for the quality and the amount of food that you get. My boyfriend usually gets the Jade roll and a couple of small rolls. All the rolls are delicious, and I do think the Jade roll is a must try (it’s also pretty photogenic, if you care about this sort of thing). I do like that my chirashi and his sushi combo comes with miso soup and salad, since not all the sushi places in the area do this. As far as the quality of raw fish goes, Tougen is in my top 3 sushi restaurants in the Toledo area (Kengo and DOMO being the other 2). I avoid eating raw fish in other places because I feel iffy about their quality. YOU HAVE TO TRY THEIR TAMAGO! It’s the best tamago (Japanese egg omelette) that I ever had, especially when it is still warm because a new batch was just prepared. Just thinking about it makes me drool!!! They are super friendly, kind, always make you feel welcome and make sure you are happy with your experience. Furthermore, you never have to wait for a table or for your sushi too long, which is a huge plus! From what I heard, they are going to be getting a soda machine soon, so that will only add to the experience. I can’t wait to try the other items on their menu! I love this place! After a long and stressful work day, I always look forward to coming here and enjoying delicious sushi in a peaceful, friendly setting!

Karai Ramen + Handroll – Menu with Prices – 640 W Republic Rd #100, Springfield

The ramen was decent and about what I was expecting/hoping for, and the Gyoza was superb. The sushi roll I received was falling apart and was carelessly assembled, which was unfortunate, because all of the ingredients were good. Hopefully an off day for the chef. Other than that they checked all of our Japanese foodie boxes, including carrying my favorite Japanese beer. The owner and servers were very nice and attentive as well. Including apologizing wholeheartedly for the barely 10-minute wait we had, (on a Friday night no less), when we requested to be sat at a booth. We will be back as I saw they have Takoyaki on the menu which is rare even for Japanese restaurants.

Sushi District – Menu with Prices – 488 E 17th St B105, Costa Mesa

Had really high expectations for Sushi District upon reading the reviews. But was very disappointed by the sushi. I have been on the a sushi craze lately, trying out sushi from various restaurants in the area and the sushi here is probably the worst of the bunch. There’s a lot of great things about this place but the sushi didn’t impress. It’s a no for me dog ? Okay lemme start by saying what this place is doing right. The rolls and appetizers were excellent! I feel if I came here for those I would give this place a full mark. But there’s sushi in the name of this restaurant and their sushi was really whack man…or woman… or nonbinary… PERSON OKAY! The rolls were excellent and the portion was a lot! So that’s good. The appetizer I had was the fried oysters, which was delicious. The only thing is the fish here isn’t on par to what I normally eat. So rolls that has raw fish in it or on it, wasn’t that great. Now… Onto the sushi. This place has the poorest quality sushi I have ever ate in my life. I can go to some cheap sushi spot for $2 sushi that will obliterate these sushi to smithereens. The quality was poor, the knife skill is also poor. I have some pictures of the sushi and you CAN NOT lie to me and say that these sushi are one of the most beautiful sushi you have ever laid eyes on. I didn’t even wanna snap these ? The knife skill of whoever made my sushi that night was very sad. Cuts everywhere in order to cut sinews from the thick and clumsy cut of tuna. Salmon quality looks sickening. Like the salmon had the some AIDS or something. Why it look like that tho??? Amaebi! My favorite! Why was it flipped upside down? Trynna look like Shamu waving at the crowds or something. The staff here are nice. Our server noticed that my friend was having trouble chewing the tuna. I woulda just ignored it, but they remade another batch for us. It was still poor quality but it’s the thought that counts??? Their water is good tho… When I have to say their water is good it means I’m trying to kinda hide the fact that the review was savage. I don’t want to give bad reviews, but it’s important for business to learn what’s up… If I had sushi only then this place would have got 0 star review. But, the staff, rolls and appetizers gave them 2 stars. From my experience, this place is a hard recommendation for me. Maybe if you weren’t into sushi then this place offers a selective menu with great food and lemon water. Premium sushi price for very very pitiful sushi quality.

Sushi Shibucho – Menu with Prices – 590 W 19th St, Costa Mesa

I moved to the neighborhood. Found Shibucho..was closed that evening. Made a point to go there. The counter was full so I got the table. Since I was ordering from table. Decided not to have nigiri sushi. Not the same when you order a plate of sushi combination. Comments. 1. They don’t have a waitress that understands Japanese food, she is efficient but no presence to seat or take orders. Just handed me a piece of paper and pen to fill in. 2. Water is not filtered well. Top Japanese restaurants have good filtered water. Affects everything., miso soup etc 3. Ordered chirashi sushi order. Price reasonable $21.00. Rice..not so great. Too mochi like. I.e. Heavy rice…Not enough rice vinegar. The fish on was ok. rice preparation is the basic measure of good sushi. 4. Ordered negi toro. But tekka maki ..but what I received was badly made tekka ..just maguro and rice rolled. $10.00. I was shocked…price was half of my chirashi and badly made. In Japan you could not serve like this. Sorry.. Because waitress not trained to understand Japanese food. Did not ask whether I wanted Japanese tea..older Latin lady. I will drive to Koi sushi or Shunka sushi for my sushi fix. Disappointed. Lastly..They knew I wanted the counter. As people left the counter. No offer for me to move ..

Miyabi é??å?³å±? – Menu with Prices – 1315 West Grand Parkway South Suite 108, Katy

Nice quaint and trendy Japanese restaurant located near Katy Mills. The menu is reasonably priced and while there are quite a few options for sushi/sashimi, there’s also a smaller section for ramen, udon, tempura, etc. The modern lighting inside is not too distracting yet gives a hip vibe. My party of three ordered some apps, entrees, and desserts to share. We had RAMEN that came with a good portion of toppings including chashu pork (soft and flavorful), soft boiled egg (yolk the way I like it which is still semi-runny), corn, fish surimi slices, bamboo shoots, and green onions. The broth was super as the creaminess/cloudiness made it very appetizing and rich. The noodles itself were on par, slightly soft and I prefer them more bouncy. The SEXY MAMA ROLL was packed with good quality fish and scallops…loved the tempura crunch on top too. The TAKOYAKI had a good consistency and chew in each bite with a handful of squid inside and bonito outside. We also had the SUSHI DELUXE which was a good platter of fresh tasting sushi that is well balanced in terms of fish to rice ratio. The CALAMARI was pretty good but mostly large rings of squid (almost like onion rings), and were bouncy/kind of chewy. The batter stayed on well when I dipped it into the sweet and tangy sauce on the side. Lastly, we were able to try the BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM (special and not usually available we were told). It was smooth and creamy, had a light sesame flavor and enjoyable. There are other flavors like red bean and green tea I need to try next time. Overall a good spot to fulfill Japanese food cravings especially after some shopping or dinner with sushi loving friends. Service friendly and efficient, plus it’s BYOB/wine with no corking fee.

Hanaki Japanese Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3045 N Belt Line Rd, Irving

Hanaki seems to be a very authentic Japanese restaurant. The flavors are there, and the food is fresh. The only thing that was disappointing to me was the lack of variety in terms of proteins for what I really wanted– the ramen and the dumplings. All of them have pork. In every single ramen dish and dumpling. Also, this restaurant is extremely quiet. There is not background noise, or music. There’s a tv going but it’s muted. And all the other patrons are Japanese. So if you have two even mildly noisy kids, and mine are definitely above “mildly”… it’s noticeable. This place is good for adult groups but not families. The service is prompt, the food comes out fast, they are very respectful and nice here. The restaurant is so clean. There are a lot of perks. I was just disappointed by the sheer number of dishes I couldn’t have due to the pork, which is why I knocked it down 2 stars. We got Eel sushi, very fresh and delicious. Seaweed salad, also fresh and tasted perfect. Rainbow roll, looked beautiful and tasted great Spicy tuna roll. Also very nice They also served a miso soup.

Zushi Japanese Bistro – Menu with Prices – 4540 Main St, Virginia Beach

Great sushi place within walking distance of my hotel. I always need to get some sort of sashimi when I go for sushi. Here I got the Chirashi which came with a choice of salad or miso soup. I went with the salad. I love love love ginger dressing so yeah, salad for me. Real basic, but good. Veggies were fresh and the dressing was what I was expecting. The chirashi is sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. This one had some pickled vegetables as well. The rice was great sushi rice, a little sweet and cooked well. The pickled veggies included ginger, cucumber and squash (maybe??? not sure), all good. The wasabi was a good quality. Strong and smooth. There were two pieces of Tamagoyaki (japanese omelet thing that’s a little sweet). I’m never a fan of this or really any egg really (so don’t take my opinion on this part into account). I did eat it so that should mean something. Now the fish. It tasted super fresh. The tuna had a beautiful coloring, the salmon was marbled well (can fish be marbled? Well it is now). In addition there was white tuna, shrimp and two other fish but I can’t recall what type. Regardless all were great with tuna being the king of the dish.
