Here and Abroad is my absolute favorite sandwich and bakery shop in Fredericksburg. The croissants are to die for, specifically the chocolate, almond, and raspberry. The salads are fresh and delicious and the sandwiches never disappoint. Perna, the owner, is always personable, friendly, and ready with a smile. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! It’s a small space, so if you have more than one or two dining companions, getting your order to go is wise. They also do catering and my coworkers are always happy to have sandwiches from Here and Abroad for working lunches! If I could give more than five stars, I would. Here and Abroad is a true Fredericksburg icon.

American Icon Brewery Kitchen & Taproom – Menu with Prices – 911 NE 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale

We’ve been keeping an eye on all the new openings around to what it seems to be the new hip area in Ft Lauderdale, or to be more precise, around Mass District. With so many gems popping out left and right, you kind of expect to get hit and misses. With that said, I’m sad to say American Icon was definitely not a hit for me and my companions. The decor is actually really nice, modern, hip with a pretty decent size open space, cool bar and an outdoor area as well. Lets begin with the service. It seems like our guy was overwhelmed or he might’ve been new, but he was clueless about the menu and specials so we just took a tour and went for what it was more appealing to us on the menu. On Thursday night, they have ladies night. The special is, ladies drink $5 margaritas, cosmos or wine. My wife and her girlfriend went for the Margarita(they commented it was nice on presentation, but tasted like a watered down Margarita) I ordered the More Hazy IPA which it was whatever, I was expecting more since they are a “brewery” and my friend ordered the Milkshake IPA. Not to be a snob, but bloody hell, that tasted like a regular lager and they added some blue nerds(the candy) to give it a nasty sweet flavor(avoid this beer). For appetizer we ordered the fish dip. This one was average at best, but once again the presentation was really nice. By then, our waiter seemed to be running back and forth to the table and seemed to be super busy; however there were only 2 tables with customers in the entire place. For dinner I order the G.O.A.T burger. I asked for it medium, but it came overcooked and dry. My wife ordered the Icon Burger, once again this burger was ok, not a lot of flavor but eatable. Her friend ordered the Mac and Cheese with Bacon and Truffle fries. Holy cow! crazy but they were the best truffle fries I ever had. I personally think that is sad that the best thing we had were the fries, but hey, I take that as a win. Overall this place is definitely ok if you want some average overpriced food and bad drinks(we paid $102.37 +tip). Definitely not Chok approved and I will not be going back nor will I recommend this place.

The Recreation Center FXBG – Menu with Prices – 213 William St, Fredericksburg

I’m pretty sure the Rec Center is one of the oldest establishments in Fredericksburg. It’s been around for over a quarter century, at least. And it’s somehow managed to retain its identity in a city that has become pretty hipster and pretty foodie. The Rec Center is a place for locals, longtime residents of the Fredericksburg area, who are now generally outnumbered by transplants from elsewhere. You can hear an authentic Fredericksburg accent here. They have beer at cheap prices, hot dogs, some other simple food. They have pool and live music. It’s a great place, just don’t expect anything upscale or fancy.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 610 Carondelet St, New Orleans

Stumptown in the lobby of the hotel you’re staying at can only ever be 5 STARS right?! Not going to lie, when our uber driver pulled up to the curb right from the airport I knew this stay would be awesome after quickly Stumptown. I live for my morning, afternoon, sometimes early evening lattes and after my past trip abroad where finding good coffee was a real chore I was so happy to be able to experience the service and quality of Stumptown. You’re in good hands here and they have oat milk. Also spotted some yummy looking items in the refrigerated display case. Awesome decor which I feel definitely carries over from the Ace hotel. Plenty of space to hang out and relax.

Florence Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2425 Centre St, Montreal

A brand new coffeeshop and ice cream parlor opened in Pointe Saint Charles. From outside, it is still under construction. Inside, the restaurant is functional. The decor is simple and elegant but the counter area is not attractive. The place is still very plain for food wise. Few sandwiches and some bakeries (coming from Sophie Sucrée). When you go around the counter, you get your ice cream from gelatos to swirls. The workers are nice, but you have to be patient with them, they lack a bit of experience. I came here for early breakfast. I took a grilled cheese sandwich with a café latte. I am not sure if the clean their grill, because my sandwich smells bacon but I didn’t order bacon plus it was very chewy (not happy with it). I did notify the worker about the smell of bacon. They took the criticism very well, and they are trying to improve themselves. Every concerns and suggestions are very welcome. My Cafe latte was perfect. This place has a potential but couple of doors away, there is Clarke coffeeshop who offers amazing ranges of pastries, coffee, tea and mouth watering sandwiches. Florence has been open less than a week, and they have a heavy competition, and they need to bring their game up. Wishing them best of luck, maybe at my next visit I will change the stars… for now I give them 3 stars.

Apple Spice Junction – Menu with Prices – 1909 Carew St, Fort Wayne

I’m a local office manager & have been ordering from Apple Spice Junction for almost a year now for most of my catered lunches at work. Not only is it a business with a foundation based on helping people in need, the food is outstanding! Their boxed lunch menu is the absolute best for working lunches & the sandwiches are delicious & the portions are GENEROUS. The salads are huge, and the ranch dressing is made in house (seriously so good). Everything is fresh, you can tell each item is made with care. Orders are taken promptly, and delivery times are better than expected. Nate is beyond friendly, and nothing like a manager who is there answering the phones everyday in the middle of all the action. I have recommended them to many people & will continue to order. Great company, with a great cause. This business is inspiring!

Apple Spice Box Lunch & Catering Co. – Chattanooga – Menu with Prices – 6413 Lee Hwy #131, Chattanooga

I can’t believe that I’m the first person to write a review for Apple Spice. This has quickly become our “go-to” spot for boxed lunches. Jennifer, Mark, and the rest of the team always take great care of us, even with last minute add-ons. We’ve had great service every time we’ve ordered and the sandwiches and salads are always made with the freshest ingredients. The bread is made in house from scratch not from frozen dough and you can definitely tell. Their break is wonderful. The Manhattan Roast beef, Turkey Cranpeno, and Strawberry Grilled Chicken sandwiches are among the favorites in our office, and you should definitely try the frog eye salad, pasta salad, or potato salad with your order. The salads are great too! The pear and goat cheese salad with vidalia onion dressing is my favorite. Our customers and corporate visitors have really enjoyed the boxed lunches from Apple Spice and their service goes a long way in helping me provide “Southern Hospitality” to our guests. My co-workers ask for Apple Spice by name whenever we have working lunch meetings. If you haven’t tried Apple Spice for lunch, you should!

Dry Storage – Menu with Prices – 3601 Arapahoe Ave D-181, Boulder

Food is ok but I will not recommend this place to anyone. It simply got all the wrong vibes to be a decent place to eat: a noisy and messy dining environment, mediocre service, way overpriced food (as expected so I didn’t take any star away), and always having only a couple of sad tiny loafs of bread at the counter (me and my friend had been deterred from dining/purchasing there for a couple times because of it). Moreover, skipping elderly people who need a little more time to serve other customers (just me then) is not the way you treat any people. It could have got two and half stars based on food alone (they also gave me the wrong tea, but who cares).

Panera Bread – Menu with Prices – 1028 S Harbor Blvd, Fullerton

Was afraid to come to this location because of the bad service reviews I glanced through. Walked right in and it wasn’t busy at all. Glanced at the menu for a bit and they were waiting, ready to take my order. I went for the bacon, egg, and cheese on ciabatta with the egg over easy with coffee. Ordering was easy! The also have the self serve option as well with tablets waiting for you to place your order. The restaurant is also mobile order ready as well. The tables have numbers so you can order directly from the app. For it not being busy at all, coming in around 10:00am, I guess you can say it was an average wait to get my sandwich. For such a small sandwich, I was really surprised at the large plate it came on. I would have expected there was something missing from the order with so much space on the plate. As you can see in my picture of the sandwich, the egg was cooked to medium. Just only a small bit of yolk oozed out of the sandwich. The bread was nice and soft, glad I asked for the the softest bread option cause I just had some dental work done before I got here. Over all taste, not a home run for me. Don’t get me wrong, you can’t go wrong with a standard bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. But I really wanted that till to ooze out so I can use the bread to wipe the yummy told from the plate. And if I were to compare it to a McD bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, I’d go for McD. Sorry Panera. ? Glad they didn’t go wrong with a cup of coffee. Although, I would have liked my coffee a little bit hotter. The Brew I had may have been out for a little while. It is self serve and all you can drink. So gonna grab one more cup before I leave. The place is nice. It’s a newer location, but could use a little maintaining. There’s crumbs on the floor in the dining area. I think with it being slow during this time, they have time to walk through the dining area to ensure cleanliness. It’s very spacious with a lot of seating options. Dividers are tall enough so that you have your own dining space, in some areas. As with other Paneras, it is a bus your own table, so don’t forget to bring your plates and stuff to the trash.

John’s Philly Grille (We close early when we run out of fresh baked bread) – Menu with Prices – 16061 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach

Can’t-go-wrong restaurant with, presumably, authentic Philadelphia Cheese steak sandwiches and all the works you’d expect to go wit. (what is that you ask, can’t you spell “with”? Sure I can. But that’s not how you order cheese steak sandwiches in Philadelphia. Been there, adopted the attitude when in JPG). The quality of the bread, meat, cheese, and all ingredients is really as good as it gets at this place. Well, at least as good as it gets anywhere in orange county. You get your sandwich and fries hot, fresh, definitely made to order, so it’s not ‘fast food’. But they don’t make you wait more that a few minutes unless it’s really busy and backed up. There really is no pretension here to being anything but a casual, old-school spot to eat casual food. I wouldn’t bother with anything else on the menu, because it’s dumb to go to a place that brags about their hot cheese steak sandwiches, and then order a freakin’ salad. Don’t be a jamook. So just park yourself on the worn out seating and enjoy looking at all the Philly memorabilia covering the walls as you eat, remembering that you’re blessed to be in California instead. Oh look, they’ve taught their staff the indifferent service ethic of a true East Coast establishment. Now, your experience will be complete!

Apple Spice Box Lunch Delivery & Catering – Menu with Prices – 1100 Jupiter Rd #190, Plano

I love a good sandwich, but I will admit its hard to find a really good sandwich around here. I have ordered bod lunches a couple of times for my company from Apple Spice and I absolutely love it. They are very quick and the staff is super friendly. They reached out later in the day to make sure everything was great. Love that I can order online the day of and have 20 or so sandwiches delivered for my meeting with no problem. The will even deliver on an order of at least 4 sandwiches which is really cool if you aren’t having an event, but a few people in the office just don’t want to run out to grab lunch. I’ve had a couple of different sandwiches (club and the trio) and both were great. They have very fresh bread which makes all the difference in a sandwich. I haven’t had any of the salads, but I hear they are very good. The chocolate chip cookies are great. Lots of side options, but all I have had are the chips but I hear the other stuff is great from my coworkers.

Sushi King Fredericksburg – Menu with Prices – 1811 Carl D. Silver Pkwy, Fredericksburg

Chinese owned. College age students work the floor. A coworker of mine told me about this place as its one of the all you can eat sushi places in fredericksburg. I had to give it a shot as my taste jn sushi can get pretty expensive. I will avoid eating rolls because they usually will be filled unproportionately with all sorts of stuff or an insane amount of rice, then are fried or not, but doused with all sorts of sauces. This usually occurs in Chinese “sushi” places as a way to fill you up. Essentially it takes away from what sushi is supposed to be (as with all other Japanese cooking) which is simple and light but the element of each dish executed expertly. Walking in evening time frame, the restaurant was not really busy. There are many booths and seats open but it takes the hostess about 5 minutes to seat the couple in front of me in line, then another 2 minutes to find a seat from me. This is to make it convenient for the servers. Ok fair enough. Upon being seated I ask about the All you can eat (AYCE) Sushi and am told that Sashimi (slices of fish) is not included and is 50 cents a piece. I then ask about Nigiri (slices of fish on seasoned rice), and the waiter was confused. I explained to him what it is, and he finally gets it and yes its included. I think to myself, how typical. Its a Chinese owned place so they’re going to pack it as much rice as possible. I order the most basic of things to test the waters. Tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, crab stick nigiri, and a seared tuna with ponzu sauce appetizer. So with the tuna and salmon, you get a sliver of fish and mainly rice just as I predicted would happen. They were at least fresh, but it was difficult to tell with how miniscule of a piece I got. The rice was not seasoned very well and as soon as I picked up the pieces, the rice would fall apart. As with other “sushi” pieces ordered, you get more of. You at least get the whole crab stick when you order it. The Tamago (egg) nigiri lacked flavor, and there were a bunch of other meats that typical sushi places offer but were not on the menu. Long story short I was disappointed. This isn’t sushi, its just Chinese trying to make a buck, putting fish on rice and calling it sushi for people who don’t know any better In Fredericksburg. If I could do half stars I’d give it 2.5 stars because I atleast ate my moneys worth. The things the restaurant cooked well were the crab rangoons and the shumai. Surprise, these are chinese dishes.

The Faculty Club Menu with Prices Minor Ln, Berkeley

The first thing to understand is that the Kerr Dining Room is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays (except for holidays and for a couple of weeks during the campus winter break). True, it’s in the Faculty Club, but you don’t have to be a faculty member, a Club member or a friend of anyone in particular to have a meal in the Kerr. All you need is a credit card or cash. The room is steeped in history and is pretty swanky even for breakfast: there are white table clothes, nice dishes and utensils, space between tables, servers in uniform. It’s also totally unbuttoned, and there’s no real dress code other than not looking like you just came out of the shower or the nearby Hearst pool. The second thing to understand is that I’m kind of a fan of the Faculty Club and can’t pretend to believe that the Kerr Dining Room is for everyone. Still, I am confident that you’ll be happy if you stop by. A day in the life of the Kerr Dining Room: Breakfasts (7:30–10AM) are great! I come every week or two with a large group and love sitting in this historic room that has beautiful light streaming in and overlooks the “Faculty Glade,” a lovely expanse of lawn on the Berkeley campus. The Club has a leisurely pace at this time of day. At adjacent tables, you’re likely to see groups of Berkeley faculty members, faculty visitors from other universities, campus police officers and other staff members, the Chancellor or other administrators, and sometimes even the Mayor of Berkeley. Students come as well! Order from the menu and you’ll get a hearty and copious meal at the start of your day. Lunches are a bit more hectic; often every table is taken. (Fortunately, you can reserve in advance.) The diners are most typically faculty members and administrators. You can see the current lunch menu from http://www.berkeleyfacultyclub.com . Dinners are interesting because the dining room can be very busy or totally chill. Sometimes there’s a big crowd because of an event in the Club itself or elsewhere on campus. Quite often there are noteworthy specials — for example, on the second Tuesday of each month there’s a prime rib special and a “no corkage fee” policy. There are fish nights, paella nights, taco nights. Check out the web site to see what’s going on. On the rare Berkeley evening that’s actually warm, you can eat your dinner outdoors on the deck — this is an absolute treat. Kenneth R. says “check it out”!
