This place is completely unassuming from outside, and has a clean and humble yet cheerfully bright interior. The lack of fancy signage or expensive furnishing is deceptive – they ask fair prices (similar to every other run of the mill doughnut shop in the metroplex), but in return they provide drool-inspiring fresh doughnuts and tasty coffee that will kickstart you to run for hours. Seriously, it’s good but STRONG. Drink it slowly. When I found the building and parking lot, I did not have high hopes despite the stellar reviews that had brought me there. I was so foolish. At first I was wary of unfilled doughnuts with an assortment of fillings which get added as you order. You can get any filling they have in the doughnut you choose. They won’t sell out of your filling! And they make real, old school custard as well as the whipped cream, plus raspberry, lemon, chocolate,…I don’t think I’m remembering them all. They will not sell out of your filling – they may sell out of your doughnut, though. I sat and leisurely enjoyed a large hot cup of coffee with a nostalgically delicious chocolate covered Bavarian cream, and I watched as those marvelous baked goods flew out the door, with good reason.

Karl’s Bakery & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2814 Wetmore Ave, Everett

I love old school, indie bake shops, especially if they feature doughnuts! Karl’s Bakery and Café is located next door to Funko on Wetmore in downtown Everett. They have been in business since 1944 so definitely they have the goods to prove their staying power. Selected a chocolate raised, lemon bar, and a chocolate Bismarck to go. Paused at the outdoor seating to photograph said items for Yelp. The lemon bar got hoovered by The Homie. Meanwhile the chocolate Bismarck got nibbled and then fully consumed by me. OMG the flavor of the chocolate glaze, texture of the doughnut, and the copious, luscious pastry cream inside. I still think about that doughnut. My goodness, mmmmm that doughnut. The chocolate raised did make it home and into the refrigerator. However, it got demolished the following day by The Homie. Three items…we’re morons. We should have bought a dozen they were that good. Simple, no frills, well executed doughnuts. Yes, highly recommended!

Rise + Roast Menu with Prices 401 Eubank Blvd SE Suite E, Albuquerque

Updated review (5/17/19): I failed to mention that there is a drive-tru for your convenience as well. I went back to try the cake doughnut and the coffee. They were very tasty. I was particularly picky about coffee but the coffee here met my expectation. I ordered a black coffee. The black coffee tasted nutty and sweet and less acidic because it did not have any sourness in it. The cake doughnut was a great accompaniment to the coffee. Though they do not offer regular cake doughnut, I went to the frosted strawberry cake. The texture of the doughnut was fresh, soft and moist. First visit (5/11/19) It’s my first time visiting Rise + Roast. I like the inside of the place – specious and cozy. Although they were not busy, I was greeted with a smiley face as I walked in, which was nice. As for the doughnut selections, a few options were missing from the case because I was there later in the afternoon. Since it’s mother’s day, they have special shaped doughnuts – MOM – which are very cute. I told the person who took my order that it was my first time here so I wanted some recommendations. The other server and he told me that they would eat everything there, which I took this as a good sign for the quality of their products. I ended with a regular doughnut and a Bavarian cream filled doughnut. I came back home to see how they packed the doughnuts, they were separated by wax papers. Good job!! The texture of these doughnuts was very satisfying – chewy but soft. The taste was very sophisticated. The Bavarian cream might be my favorite because the contrast of sweet cream and bitter flavor of chocolate. I have to go back to try their glazed doughnuts and coffee soon.

Good Town Doughnuts – Menu with Prices – 2930 Bristol St, Costa Mesa

My boyfriend and I came across this doughnut shop while walking around the place and their doughnuts were so appealing to the eye that it was hard to say no. We decided to get a doughnut and my boyfriend got a small coffee. As he poured cream in his coffee, I decided to unwrap the doughnut to take a picture but thanks to my clumsiness, I ended up dropping it on the floor. We picked it up and left the store. We later came back after tossing it in the trash to buy another one. As we walked in, the girl recognized us and saw what had happened, so she gave us another doughnut to replace the one we dropped even though we didn’t asked her to. That was amazing customer service from her end. The doughnut was delicious and my boyfriend says that the coffee was better than Starbucks’ (Starbucks is overrated). Overall, great customer service, delicious doughnuts and great coffee! This place is worth a try!

Creamy Doughnuts – Menu with Prices – 1869 N Plano Rd, Richardson

After reading the reviews and googling “Best Doughnuts in Richardson” I truly had my hopes set on this place. Went before 530 am on a Monday. Today. . While the lady behind the counter seemed warm and welcoming she did not go so far as to offer any free doughnut holes I even told her I was a first time customer. I got the cinnamon roll claw doughnut and a chocolate covered glazed doughnut. She said the chocolate covered glazed doughnut just came out as she was packing it and she had a hard time packing it. I told her don’t worry about putting it in a bag. Paid and took the Doughnuts to go. Got to my car and ate the Doughnuts in less than 5 minutes. They slid down my throat. There was no bread to them. Not what I am used to. They were warm and gooey but very light and very airy. There was no meat or thickness on them. I was extremely disappointed. If you are driving by its one thing but I do not recommend going out of your way to go to this place. Would not go back.

Sam’s Donuts – Menu with Prices – 2641 N Grand Ave, Santa Ana

This is very much your typical mom and pop doughnut shop. It’s located on the corner of Grand and Fairhaven next to a 7-11. Its a very small corner lot with limited parking. The plaza itself is a little beat up. The shop is small with limited seating. There may be 3-2 seater tables at most with even just ordering and waiting around to be a little tight in space. The shop is incredibly warm due to the small proximity mixed with the doughnuts and pastries being made in the back. You will smell like doughnuts if you’re in there for even 5 minutes. They have your typical doughnuts which I was not too much of a fan. They tasted like they were made in oil that was a little old. It had that burnt, bitter after taste to it. It’s very mild, though, so I’m sure for some people, it tastes like an average doughnut. The ice coffee is premade and chalked full of sugar and cream. I don’t recommend. They do offer a wide assortment of sandwiches which I thought was nice. From croissants to bagels to just your average sliced bread, they offer all sorts of meats including a breakfast assortment to choose from. They’re pretty tasty hot. Keep in mind, they offer jalapenos and they’re sandwiches come with mayo.

Mel-O-Cream Donuts – Menu with Prices – 217 E Laurel St, Springfield

My wife and I stopped to get a dozen donuts for the family. When you walk in, the counter to order donuts is straight ahead. There is a big area to the right that has a lot of tables. The glass case with all the donuts is big but not huge. There is a decent amount of variety to choose from. We got some chocolate with custard filled, raspberry filled, regular glazed and chocolate covered. The custard filled were ok but only about half filled with custard. The same was true for the raspberry filled. The glazed were a bit dry.Service was very good as the lady behind the counter was nice. The place was clean. The prices were good.Overall, the donuts were slightly above average. There could be more filling since we ate half the donut before hitting the filling.

Blackbird Doughnuts – Menu with Prices – 15 Holyoke St, Cambridge

This is a kiosk-style store situated within the Smith Campus Center in Harvard Square, which makes it a good spot to get coffee/doughnuts while studying. I generally go here for coffee and it’s actually a large quantity of really good coffee for decent prices. The doughnuts are decent, nothing mind-blowing but good overall. They do a nice classic vanilla glazed, and I really love their everything bagel doughnut — brioche filled with whipped cream cheese and topped with toasted garlic, onion, sesame, and poppy seeds. It’s an absolutely delicious sweet-but-also-kinda-savoury calorie bomb. Some of their other flavours are really inventive and interesting too (want to try the orange cranberry fritter, and the vegan lemon coconut). They have good vegan options. I don’t love the dry caky texture of their cake doughnuts. (This may be a personal preference against cake ones, but they just weren’t great). Really dense, really heavy and hard to finish. Go for the regular/brioche ones! They also do a good apple cider slushie and ice cream, too!

Daylight Donuts – Menu with Prices – 2121 N Tyler Rd #113, Wichita

Love this little doughnut shop….within walking distance from my house. I usually get same thing, maple glazed raised doughnut with coffee. The case has many different assorted pastries for the customer to peruse and make a selection. Sell by the each, 1/2 and full dozen. Can mix/ match. Cinnamon rolls and long John’s are more pricey. They open at 0500 in the morning….and close like 1000 …. Their hours similar to other bakeries selling doughnuts only. The doughnuts are light and service is prompt. Coffee is self serve, and they have milk, OJ etc in a cold beverage machine, like this little shop and I think you will too.

Bearscat Bakehouse – Salem – Menu with Prices – 190 High St SE, Salem

I LOVE this place (maybe a little too much!). They only do doughnuts and they do them right! Gotta’ love a place that focuses on one thing with consistently. They offer both yeasted and old-fashioned style options. Traditional doughnuts are a buck each, specialty doughnuts, twists, and fritters ranging from $1.50 to $2.50 each. The namesake doughnut is a glazed chocolate old fashioned curlicue. There are more than 20 flavors on offer, from classic chocolate, glazed and Bavarian cream-filled to wacky variations: chocolate potato chip, s’mores, and a caramel-glazed version filled with apple. The blueberry pancake doughnut is filled with blueberry preserves and topped with maple glaze and the “dirt” doughnut has cookie crumbs and a gummy worm. Expect additional varieties and rotating seasonal flavors as they get settled in. Bearscat Bakehouse will be open from 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The bakery will be closed on Sundays.

Ya-Whoo Donuts – Menu with Prices – 9219 Archibald Ave, Rancho Cucamonga

Came here to feed my doughnut craving around 530am. There was a lone as people were getting their Don ought and coffee fix. What was impressive was the lady knew everyone’s usual orders. Seems like they have a little following here. Good reason for that. Their doughnuts are baked fresh each morning. They have a great selection of them. And 75 cents for 1 doughnut?!?!? Unheard of these days. Wasn’t too greasy. Had a nice crunch on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. Got the sprinkles one. If I’m craving doughnuts again, this will be my doughnut place. Keep up the good work.

Rainbow Donuts – Menu with Prices – 2441 W Walnut St # 235, Garland

This place does not have a counter filled with doughnuts by the time i get there which is around 10:30 am but they 99 percent of the time have my doughnut holes that i love from here. Today they had a lot of pretty decorated doughnuts. They also have Breakfast croissant sandwiches with egg and cheese and ham or sausage and egg they also have sausage rolls. They have fresh coffee and carry juices and cartons of milk. They have a few tables to sit and eat. There is no outside seating. The people there are very friendly and they get to know your order after awhile and immediately get it ready without me saying a word. I guess that tells you i go there alot! I love this place because the freshness is consistent.Oh and the prices are reasonable, for a dozen doughnut holes it costs 1.40. Today i got 6 glazed doughnut holes, 4 decorated doughnuts holes and 4 mini cinnamon rolls it cost me 2.08, not bad at all!

The Jelly Donut – Menu with Prices – 443 Dutton Ave, Santa Rosa

Doughnuts that you can get at anytime of day or night… magic to your ears right? This place comes in clutch after a late night of drinking. Bar closes, youre craving something bad, dont feel like going to shari’s or dennys… DOUGHNUTS !!!! This place kind of specailizes in their blueberry cake doughnuts, which are very good considering im not the biggest cake doughnut fan. They taste like blueberry pancakes. Reasons why im giving them a three is because: 1) they only take cash… they have an ATM in house, however, its always down anytime ive ever gone in there, so getting a friend that has cash to spot me or running across the street to the nearest Atm sort of sucks considering the extra $3 charge to use the ATM just made a $1 doughnut into a $4 doughnut ( or $8.75 dozen into an $11.75 dozen) 2) same as the atm, the bathroom is always out of service , as i mentioned above, after a drunken mission to get doughnuts, one might have to expell once arrived, not at the jelly doughnut 3) ive only been here late night, so this only applies to that timeframe, but, selection is somewhat limited. I prefer risen doughnuts opposed to cake, most of their doughnuts seem to be cake. I love plain glazed, sugar, and straight up doughnut holes, but it seems like they never have them when my friends and i decide to stumble in… less maple cakes that noone orders and more plain risen glazed!!!!
