I will be honest. I quit going there about 10 years ago because the food was not very hot on the warming plates or bins. Plus it just didnâ??t seem to have a good enough selection. But a friend told me that it was really good now and I went Sunday and it was out of this world. There was so many entrées to choose from â?? spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, baked chicken, fried chicken, chicken wings, chicken strips, and catfish. I probably left off some. One of the things that I cannot find in a restaurant very often are rutabagas. Those were the best rutabagas I have ever eaten. They also had delicious cabbage, butter beans, sweet potato soufflé, rice, mashed potatoes, delicious macaroni and cheese, corn that tasted like they just cut it off the cob, Green beans, fat back, and I canâ??t remember the rest. They also have a full salad bar and dessert bar and that good soft ice cream thatâ??s thick and heavy. And the food was hot. It was also seasoned perfectly. I really canâ??t think of anything negative except maybe just some of the tables are a little too close together but then again that helps to have more seating. You may think it is a little high but it includes tax and drink and all you can eat on Sunday for $14.75.

Max?s Chicken – Menu with Prices – 9542 Lee Hwy, Fairfax

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve reviewed another Peruvian Chicken place. Fact, peruvian chicken places have been the most reviewed “type” of restaurant of my Yelp career. To say that I know my Peruvian Chicken is arrogant, but true. Forgive me, humility is not my forte. Now Max, oh Max. Several things that Max does right by me: 1) Hot and juicy chicken right off the press. It is always a little concerning when you show up at 12pm and there’s no one else in there (many people came through after I ordered) and you order some chicken – you fear that it’ll be overcooked and dry to the bones because of the lack of traffic. Fear not, I got a hot and juicy chicken. 2) Yucca that is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. However, there were a few pieces that seemed to have gotten recycled back into the fryer. Most were perfect, but a few tasted like they had gone through the ringer a few times and were stiff as eff on the inside. No bueno. 3) Okay, who is the genius at Max’s that decided to give bottles of white and green sauce for table-side use. No other Peruvian chicken place does this. If Max’s wants to blow up, they can certainly do so just based on the fact that eating in gets you unlimited* (I’m sure they will balk if you use a whole bottle and ask for more, unless you’re eating two whole chicken) white and green sauce. There’s not much bad to say about Max. Max knows what he’s doing (or is Max a female? Unisex name!). Anyways, Max’s Chicken should be on your radar if you’re looking for Peruvian Chicken in the Fairfax area. The only place that comes close is “Super _____” in the Tyson’s area. Okay, now here’s your Yelp Elite tip. Because you get unlimited* white and green sauce, you can throw it on your salad, black beans, or whatever other side you want with no shame. I’m all about healthy black beans for the extra protein (need them gainz), but adding some white sauce to the black beans made for some extra tasty beans. TL;DR: Unlimited white and green sauce is the real kicker here. But don’t let that fact alone make you think their chicken and yucca sucks, because it doesn’t! Wait a few months and there will be a new Taiwanese gem of a dessert place opening up a couple doors down. A combo-breaker that you won’t regret – peruvian chicken lunch/dinner followed by a Taiwanese dessert.

Gyro Tabouli – Menu with Prices – 2706 Old Fort Pkwy, Murfreesboro

Wow….thatâ??s literally all I can say! We randomly chose this restaurant to get some Mediterranean food, and not only was this BY FAR the best Mediterranean food we’ve ever had, it was some of THE BEST food weâ??ve ever had!!!! We were blown away! Everything was flavored fantastic, cooked to perfection, fresh and had that homemade taste! It might have been because of the seasoned amazing cooks that were doing the cooking instead of teenagers that mean well but canâ??t cook. I canâ??t recommend this restaurant enough! We live 4 hours away but itâ??s so good we would be tempted to come back just for it!

JJ?s Island Grindz – Menu with Prices – 836 Broadway, Chula Vista

Another Chamorro spot and was really hoping to like it. The vibe is Island vibe(very homey and very mom and pop shop what you would actually see in Guam) but that’s where it stops. Let’s first go with how long it took for the food to show up. We ordered the appetizer platter coz wifey wanted to try out their empanadas and shrimp patties and a combo plate (ribs and kelaguen)…. it took them over 20 minutes to bring us the appetizers and another half hour or so (possibly 45 minutes) for the main entree. Whaaat? Really? We almost waited almost an hour for our food (a total of 2 orders)…. Quality of food – hmm beef lumpia is more of green beans or something green lumpia … I saw a small speck of beef in that lumpia. AND it was soo bland that didn’t even eat the rest … Shrimp patty was also bland with one small chunk of shrimp and the rest was batter and more green stuff (green beans?) … chicken wings was cold and again, bland…. empanadas were OK but tasted like it was store bought and just re-fried it. Kelaguen was also bland Ribs were cold and tasted ok but nothing special Red rice was also bland Finadene – what was that? I wouldn’t even consider that a finadene – not sure what they used to make it but wow… red rice – was bland Basically, while we were eating, we had to season it ourselves just to be able to eat and not waste our money. Speaking of which, the price for a combo? WOW! If you’re going to charge that much, it should at least taste decent… Again, I was really excited to try it out but was really really disappointed….

Texas Rib Shack – Menu with Prices – 5025 W Olive Ave, Glendale

New owner and a nice guy. But….. I went last Sunday looking for some good bbq. I went and spent 130 bucks on 2. “Super slabs”, Baked beans, and green beans. Let’s talk about the ribs. Nothing was fresh. He microwaved my the ribs in 4 different batches. When they where actually cooked. Who knows. After the where microwaved they where then tossed in 2 different kids of bbq sauce. When I got home and ate them you could obviously tell that the ribs where not fresh at all and if I where to guys cooked days before. The green beans. The where canned green beans which there is nothing wrong with that. But with the added salt to already salted canned green beans they where to salty to eat really. And then there is his famous baked beans as he put it. They where canned beans. Nothing fancy. I’m all about supporting local businesses, but sorry. I won’t be back for microwaved ribs and canned food. I would not recommend this place at all. Two stars because the owner and a nice attitude on life. But food? Yea, no. He hasn’t been in business that long. So what I’ll do in 6 months I’ll go back and try again and leave another review for you all.

Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que – Menu with Prices – 12704 Montana Ave, El Paso

Came into town and decided to grab dinner after an 8+ hour drive from Dallas. I’m a huge fan of Rudy’s BBQ but decided to come here since we don’t have a Famous Dave’s in DFW. The last time I was @ a Famous Dave’s was about 2 years ago and I remember the food being delicious! Niki was our server, super friendly and accommodating and had great recommendations. Good service even when the food took a little longer and she came by with some complimentary BBQ chips to apologize. The food itself @ this location was just OK. My dinner date loved his sandwich (The Manhandle?) and the BBQ beans as his side. No complaints at all. I ordered a combo platter to try a few things: roasted chicken, brisket, ribs, and corn/cornbread muffin/green beans/broccoli with an additional side of the jalapeño cheddar sausage. I’ll be honest and say that my favorite part of my meal was probably only the green beans, cornbread muffin, and the BBQ sauces they put out (particularly the Georgia Mustard). The brisket portion on my platter was super salty (tasted like it was the burnt fatty end?) and the roasted chicken was pretty dry. Our food did take a little longer than normal to come out which resulted in the fire cracker green beans being under seasoned and my side order of sausage link coming out 10min after all the entrees. For dessert- Bread pudding was delicious but I would suggest ordering a second scoop of the ice cream to go with it. If you do their survey on the bottom of your receipt, you’ll get a free desert next time you go in. When comparing their meat cuts in terms of flavor, juiciness, and quality to their competitor down the road, I’d have to say that Dave’s loses on this end. I like Dave’s for their other entree’s (salmon, sandwiches) but if I was going to order straightforward BBQ meats, I’ll have to pass. Also, the timeframe of receiving our food and quality didn’t match how “busy” they were. We ordered around 5:45 and the restaurant was maybe 50% occupied. It took about 25 min to receive our meals. I did not notice any managers touching tables. There was a separate person apart from our server who delivered our dessert and she asked how everything was but she did not identify herself as management. Also, where we were seated gave us a good view of the to-go area and I noticed servers looking “bored” several times. 3 stars for good service, clean restaurant, and good dessert/sides. Need to work on food quality + management interaction.

Blacksmoke BBQ & Grill – Menu with Prices – 2121 Northwest Hwy Suite 100, Garland

This bbq is delicious! I went here GOT THE FOOD TO GO and the wait wasn’t bad ay all. The first thing you smell when you walk in is delicious Smokey BBQ. I ordered the 3 meat plate, I got brisket, chicken and sausage! Let me start with the chicken. Man that chicken was the most tender and juicy piece of BBQ’d meat I have ever tasted. It’s fall off the bone tender! And idk if they smoke their meats or whatever hit it was perfectly seasoned and everything. Next let’s discuss the brisket. First and foremost, the two slices I got were huge! I swear it was like eating a rib without the bone ! I will get into the ribs later. But that. Eisner has the smokehouse flavor too. Whatever they do to that is amazing. Next the sausage was peppered I believe. Smokey and savory with every ju us and tender bite. My girl got the ribs and brisket, them ribs were amazing! Smokey, fall of the bone tender, sweet sand savory. For sides she had macaroni and green beans both of which I cannot recreate or describe how delicious it is. We got dessert too. I got the peach cobbler with a side of ice cream and she got the banana pudding. That review will come later as I must to go celebrate my birthday!! This was the best BBQ I have ever had. STAY TOONED FOR MY OTHER REVIEW OF THE DESSERTS COMING SOON.. sorry there are no octubres, it was too delicious. Will post pics next time as I am 100% positive I will be going back!!

Yelo’d Ice Cream & Bake Shoppe – Menu with Prices – 10152A 82 Ave NW, Edmonton

Soft serve ice cream with a Filipino twist? Yes please! The lineup wasn’t that long either on a weekday evening. The storefront is quaint and it’s warm inside without any seating room. There is a bench outside though if you do want to sit. I like how there’s 4 soft serve flavours but you can twist two of the flavours when ordering. If you are unsure about the flavours, you can also sample a bit as well. They also have daily dessert specials which is basically Filipino desserts topped or mixed with their soft serve ie. halo halo, etc. I had the champorado (chocolate rice pudding) with a twist of Ube and another flavour they had that day. It was tasty, not heavy at all. My only qualm with that particular dessert was that the champorado itself is hot and that melted my soft serve extremely fast which left me with a little puddle of ice cream soup that my kids gladly polished off. I’d maybe go for a cone or a cold dessert paired with my soft serve next time. It was a good champorado though. They do have exotic flavours in their rotation that I’d like to try too, so I’ll probably have to follow their Instagram account to find out whats being offered that week. I’d probably also get some goods to go from their bakery offerings or put in a custom order because they have a lot of creative dessert options!

Kim’s Hamburgers Etc – Menu with Prices – 2600 W Waco Dr, Waco

We loved Kim’s!!! We got chicken fried steak, steak fingers & hotdogs. We took it to go and it was still super yummy by the time we got home to eat it. We agreed that the gravy is really good. I loved my mashed potatoes and green beans – they do the green beans right by cooking them up with bacon! Yum!!! The hotdogs were good, but it was the steak fingers and CFS that stole the show. I’m actually excited to try their pork chops, chicken fried chicken & catfish specials. Also, I can’t leave out the bottled drinks. My husband got a Texas Red Creme thinking it would sort of like Big Red. Oh my gosh! It was so much better! It was like ice cream in a bottle. You can really taste the real cream. Our kids stole them from us they were so good. They have about 12 different flavors. The decor was really fun as well – lots to look at so I know next time we go in, my kids will enjoy it. Definitely would recommend.

Johnny B’s Grillhouse – Menu with Prices – 2504 Somerset Center Dr, Winston-Salem

Well this was our first experience wanted to try something new. The decor was very well done, and cute place with patio. Menu was great, with lots of options for what you are in the mood for. I ordered the Beef Tips with Mushrooms in wine sauce and ordered Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. The Beef Tips were cooked perfect, and really good along with the potatoes. The Green Beans however were not my thing. Cooked in a Greek Style sauce. I just did not care for them. Our waitress who was very friendly and helpful came over and I told her I did not like them. I asked if they could be switched to something different. She was happy to do so and took care of this rather quickly. She brought me the vegetable medley I asked for and this was much better. I am very picky with my Sweet Tea being I make it fresh at home. The Tea at first was okay ,but when pitcher was brought to refill for my husband it tasted like it had been sitting out too long. He had ordered the chicken bacon and Swiss club. He said it was good but tasted too salty. He told this to the waitress she said it may be the blackened meat, but he had ate blackened before that did not taste this way. We think could have been the chicken marinade possibly. She apologized for this, but he did eat it all. We were too full to go for dessert. All staff seemed very friendly and already learning there customers. I definitely will go back, and try again. Would like to try the breakfast as well. Prices were great!

Bobbie D’s Southern Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3201 W 65th St, Little Rock

I was really looking forward to the Sunday buffet I seen online but it wasn’t available. So, I ordered a large meal consisting of fried chicken, baked chicken, chicken spaghetti, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing, yeast roll and sweet tea. Needless to say, I’m stuffed. My personal favorites we’re the baked chicken (nice and juicy,) dressing (with gravy, seasoned to perfection) green beans (the broth makes it worth it) and the sweet tea. My fried chicken (although seasoned well) was a little on the dry side but please take into consideration that I came minutes before closing and it’s sitting on a line, buffet-style. I will come early next time and give it a fair chance. The service was excellent and the employees treat you like family. Very clean environment and the young waitresses checked on me religiously. Good food and good service deserves 5-stars, in my book. I shall return!!!

Chico & Chang – Menu with Prices – 3850 Riverside Dr, Macon

Wow! I went once when they first opened and got takeout. Canâ??t remember what I thought of the food then. But today, I experienced amazing service and food. The lady working the counter was BEYOND hospitable. She knew many guests (I assume regulars) by name. She was so accommodating and made conversations with guests making recommendations for their next visits about things they might enjoy based upon their feedback, giving samples of hot sauces and really creating a relationship with the guests. The staff was efficient, food tasted amazing, obviously fresh, they were welcoming, the place was super clean. I am extremely impressed. Canâ??t wait to try the rest of the menu!!!! I strive to offer this kind of service at my own establishment. A+!!!!!

Rosmarin Pop Up – Menu with Prices – 225a Westminster St, Providence

As we were looking for a different type of place to eat, we saw Rosmarin with its food and its great reviews. Perfect. When the reservations were made, we had great customer service including the menu sent to us in advance. On the day of the reservation, we even received a confirmation text. We thought, â??This is awesome.â? Unfortunately, thatâ??s where it ends. When we arrived for our reservation, we are told that they are at least 30 minutes behind on reservation seating. When we are seated, we are suddenly told that we can only order a tasting menu because â??the chef said so.â? â??He is the only who cooks and doesnâ??t have time to make individual meals.â? REALLY?! Gets better…the host/waiter who tells of this claims to be the owner but canâ??t do anything about it because the other guy is the chef. Again…really? The owner canâ??t tell the employee to make individual dishes. Huh? Or does it have to do with the $79 price point for the tasting menu?Maybe thatâ??s just me being a cynical Rhode Islander. We understand things can happen and this may have been legit but, Rosmarin needed to communicate that out to us prior to our arrival or at least when we had to wait to be seated. Regardless, we looked over the complete menu to determine that we didnâ??t want to do a tasting (not enough selections interested us) so we left. As we did, we politely expressed our displeasure with the â??ownerâ? who didnâ??t seem to care. Definitely will not return but will make sure to tell people about our experience. Bon appetit Rosmarin.
