Went to Grants for a second effort, because boy, would it be great to Love something on the menu at my closest to home food joint. Having reviewed the burger as “nothing special” last trip, I decided on the “chicken burger” with my first order of fries this trip. I would state that these folks do achieve consistent middle of the road quality. The sandwich rolls are all a bit too much bread. There’s good about that, at Five Guys the roll doesn’t hold up long enough so that you’re left holding slabs of meat and condiments. These, however, make the food a bit to bready. The chicken came dressing with a mayo based lettuce type slaw, a bit too heavy on the mayo, but not objectionable. The fries seemed straight from a freezer bag (I managed a McD’s for 2 years, I know these fries). In summary, once again, nothing dramatically wrong with the food. The price point puts them in competition with the better burger joints (both chain and local) in town, but the quality isn’t quite in the same league.

Wolfies Pub – Menu with Prices – 274 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh

As an appetizer, we ordered the buffalo chicken dip, which came with warm pitas. The dip itself was very good. However, the flavor of the dip was overwhelmed by the mountain of bleu cheese, which topped the dip. I like bleu cheese, but they use way too much in this dish and it ends up being all that you can taste. It is unfortunate because the dip without the bleu cheese had a great flavor. For my meal, I went with the bison burger, which was topped with caramelized onions and a garlic aioli. The meat itself had a great flavor, and was cooked as requested. However, the construction of the burger, as well as the bun made it pretty average. Lettuce and tomato were placed under the burger patty. This, along with the other wet ingredients caused the burger to get sloppy. The burger needed some type of topping to provide some friction and prevent all of the sliding that occurred when trying to eat it. In addition, the bun they used seemed cheap. Not only did it taste average, but it fell apart and did not hold up to the wet ingredients and juicy patty. The burger would have been so much better had it been on brioche and either done without the lettuce and tomato, or if they were placed on top. The fries that came with the burger were pretty good, and the homemade ranch was great. My one friend ordered the “Pub Hot Chicken”. Hot chicken, especially with its recent popularity, has come to be known as the type of chicken they serve in Nashville. I was expecting this sandwich to have at least some type of the sweet and spicy sauce, which is traditionally what is being referred to when an item it labeled as “hot chicken”. Instead, the sandwich was nothing more than a fried chicken sandwich, which was overcooked, and topped with a drop or two of chipotle mayo. Overall, the place has some promise, but needs to make some changes to its menu and serving practices.

Del’s Charcoal Burgers – Menu with Prices – 110 S McKinney St, Richardson

Came to this place on a late Saturday afternoon, read about it on Google for things to do in Dallas Fort Worth. It said that this place had been a burger staple for 60 years, so of course we had to give it a try. The restaurant itself isn’t that big, not to much parking either. But since it was later it wasn’t to busy. Don’t be fooled be the name- they serve much more than burgers such as hotdogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, and more. I just got a cheeseburger and let me tell you it is one of the best I’ve had. The burger itself was simple but so flavorful! You could taste the grill on the burger, the bun was really good too and tasted buttery. However, I really liked the lettuce and tomato. The lettuce was shredded and the tomatoes were thin, I liked this because they didn’t fall off the burger. At other burger places, perhaps In and Out, the lettuce is big and falls straight off your burger! This burger was sturdy and did not fall apart. For desert we tried the fried Twinkie. This reminded of the Texas State Fair, the Twinkie was soft, and melted in your mouth. We WILL be back again! Thanks for reading ?

Bless Your Heart Burgers 33rd Avenue – Menu with Prices – 5410 NE 33rd Ave, Portland

Located at the former site of Cannon’s Rib Express, Bless Your Heart Burgers (BYH) 33rd Avenue is the second location of BYH and the first location on the east side. There seems to be a lot of hype about BYH’s burgers and I can see why. I wouldn’t say its the best burger in town, but I did really enjoy my Classic Burger (with added sautéed mushrooms and bacon) last night. I love how BYH smashes their burgers to get a super crusty finish on the exterior of the burger. That char added so much flavor to the burger, and the burger was still moist too. The sautéed mushrooms added a nice textural element, though I would skip the bacon next time since it was a bit chewy and definitely low quality. Along with my burger, I also shared Chili Cheese Fries and the Down n Dirty Fries with my partner. Of the two, I’d say the Down n Dirty Fries were my favorite. Both of the fries came with this great beer cheese sauce, but I liked that the Down n Dirty Fries came with griddled onions, peppers, and mushrooms, as I felt like I needed more veggies in my meal due to the use of shredded lettuce in my burger instead of a big piece of lettuce, which is normally my preference. I thought the fries were a tad oily, but still tasty nonetheless.

Xinantecatl Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1421 N Clovis Ave Suite 101, Fresno

Tried out this new spot. The staff is very friendly and explained the menu and specials for lunch. I ordered a double cheese burger with no onions, came with fries but no soda, I added on a soda to my order. Got my order and dug in….the meat is not fresh and had that freezer Brown look to it, very dry, tough, and salty. The bottom of the burger bread was totally soggy from the juice of the tomatoes and mayo spread they put on it. I am not exaggerating. French fries are just basic frozen crinckly fries from the grocery store. The soda was not dialed in properly as I got a mountain dew and it taste horrible. All in all I think there is too much on the menu and for that reason they turn to frozen food as most of the items on the menu are frozen fried products. A small place like this may not have the volume of a McDonald’s however they should take advantage of that and cook fresh food vs. Frozen food. If that burger was fresh hand made burger patties it would taste 10 times better. They mentioned to me that they recommend the shrimp fries, well with frozen fries I will not order them. I will try you guys again for breakfast to update my review. The customer has spoken.

Athens Family Restaurant – Menu with Prices – The Colannade Plaza, 2300 Bee Ridge Rd unit 301, Sarasota

This place was recommended by another business in the plaza. The Hummus had oil drizzled over the top which took away from The flavor and made it rather heavy. Chicken fried fingers and fries were one of the orders, the chicken fingers were extremely dry. we sent them back and ordered a burger and fries as a replacement. I asked that they hold the lettuce and tomato on the burger and when it arrived there was lettuce and tomato hidden underneath the burger patty. I ordered the traditional gyro and the meat was black and crispy. Not very good. The service was was good, very clean, nice decor but the food was not that good. We ordered right pudding and Baklava for dessert which we took to go. When I got home, the rice pudding has leaked (some kind of messy liquid) all over the paper bag, Not sure what it was because it was in a plaster container. It was warm, but flavor was ok, I f not a little runny. The Baklava was good but expensive. When I asked price before we ever got our lunch I was told $3.99 for the triangle or the 2 rolls. When I opened bag at home, I had half of an order which seemed ridiculously small for $3.99. Especially since it was the only thing I enjoyed from this restaurant. Lunch for two with 2 drinks and two desserts was $32.00 plus $6.40 for tip.

Shake Shack Menu with Prices 3030 Washtenaw Ave #107, Ann Arbor

The flavor of the meat itself was quite good and unlike almost any other, even from places that specialize in hamburgers. I got a double this time because the last few times I went I was disappointed. The person taking my order suggested a double and she was right. It’s much better than a single which is my standard. The burger is very rich, a little heavy really. The Shack sauce is bland and oily. They serve the burger in a way that makes it a mess – the bun is small and not cut completely through, the meat and condiments are therefore wedged into one side and the whole thing is then placed into a half sized burger bag that is supposed to serve as a wrap but only covers one side. It’s a mess and everyone there was getting it all over their hands. It’s just pretentious nonsense. They also put lettuce and tomato on their standard burger, but the amount is paltry – about half of what would be standard in a diner, less even than the big three national burger chains. The french fries were crinkle cut and done very well. I like crinkle cut fries so that was good. The price was high. $12 for a double cheeseburger and fries. The flavor of the meat itself was quite good, but if you don’t get a double you’re going to miss it because it’s subtle. I don’t think it’s bad, but I’m really missing the reason for all of the hype. I guess I didn’t have a milk shake. Perhaps people like it because what they really want is dessert for lunch but they aren’t willing to admit it, so they talk about the burger instead? I must admit, the pretentiously inconvenient lopsided presentation of the hamburger really turned me off. I immediately disassembled mine in order to make it less of a mess, but the patties were stuck together in a tilted mess, and that made it impossible to get it straight, so I gave up. Poor value, poor presentation, excessively heavy and oily. I know people like greasy burgers and abundance, but this was too much for me, and the high price put the finishing touch on my opinion of Shake Shack – overrated. Not bad, but not living up to the hype.

Burger Bar Fort Wayne – Menu with Prices – 223 W Jefferson Blvd Suite 101, Fort Wayne

The Burger Bar is located in the Hampton Inn & Suites next to the ball park. I was waiting outside with other people but there didn’t seem to be anyone working at the window, so I went inside. There was only one cashier during my visit, so all the people waiting to order inside were served first before those waiting outside on the patio. You can order inside if you plan to eat on the patio, so just something to consider if you find yourself in the same situation. Make sure to check-in on Yelp so you can get free fries with your burger. There are also other promotions that will get you freebies, like free fries on Fridays, and $2 Milkshakes on Tuesdays. The September shake of the month is Carmel Apple. I tried it and really liked it. I also ordered the Crispy Chicken Tender Sandwich. It comes with sriracha mayo, but can be changed for other sauces if you prefer. I stayed with the sriracha mayo, and I’m glad I did. It went well with the chicken. My only gripe would be that I wish the chicken sandwich was one piece instead of three tenders. Keeping it all together and not falling apart was not impossible, but I still ended up with half a chicken tender slipping out of the sandwich. While the menu is limited, there are enough good options. Burger Bar kind of reminds me of a Shake Shack – great shakes, chicken, burgers, and fries.

THE CUT Handcrafted Burgers – Menu with Prices – 3831 Alton Pkwy #C, Irvine

Solid burger spot with so many creative twists to the basic burger. I’m not a big burger person (I prefer sandwiches) but the burgers here are delicious, great quality, and don’t leave you feeling bloated, which is nice. My friend and I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and the Columbian burger and Garlic & Rosemary fries to split. Fries were (VERY) heavy on the garlic. The fries are good, but the garlic needs to be turned down a notch. Service was great –our server was checking in on us consistently and gave us plenty of time to decide which burgers to get. I didn’t realize how upscale this place was until we asked for water and she brought out a freakin’ carafe of water. Columbian burger was really unique and unlike anything I’ve tried before. It consists of mozzarella, cilantro chimichurri and BANANAS. Bananas, who would’ve thought they would work on a savory burger, but it did and the burger was FANTASTIC. The beef patty was juicy and tender and in combination with the smoked mozz and bananas — mmmMM it hits the spot. The Nashville Hot Chicken was pretty good too, not too spicy and the seasoning was very flavorful. Burgers are a regular size, but the patties are thick. Prices are a bit on the higher side, especially since it doesn’t come with sides, however, you’re paying for quality ingredients and service.

Mandarin Chinese & Japanese Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 2618 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica

This place is shockingly bad. Me and a co-worker ordered two lunch specials and a Chinese chicken salad. We got Mongolian beef and garlic chicken. Both were extremely flavorless and seemingly cooked without any sort of sauce. I mentioned this because on the bottom of each of our containers was a pool of smelly water. It was gross. My beef was stringy and so was the chicken, of which they don’t give you very much in the first place. There were also very few vegetables from what each dish had advertised. Chinese chicken salad was not a Chinese chicken salad, it was lettuce, chicken, and Chinese dressing. No wontons, nothing but massive amounts of lettuce, a few tomatoes and a small portion of chicken. I should have taken a picture of the food before we ate it, but I managed to get a picture of the Chinese chicken salad. I used to think it was probably pretty difficult to mess up Chinese food, but this place did it in Grand Style.

The Uprooted Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 3000 E Ray Rd building 6 suite 105, Gilbert

I stopped by here this trip to the area having looked at the place a few times in the past. I didnâ??t know it was a purely vegetarian restaurant. I walked in with an open mind and I was not disappointed. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a limited menu which appears to turn over based upon what they have available, since everything is plant based. I opted for the current version of the veggie burger, which was a turmeric and chick pea based patty. It came on a house made grain bun (chia and/or quinoa maybe). It was dressed with some lettuce, cucumbers and hummus and came with a side salad of romaine and kale with balsamic vinegar. Again, as a dedicated carnivore, I was quite happy with my lunch. The veggie burger had good flavor and was in no way, shape or form trying to be like a burger. The overall meal was very satisfying and I felt like I ate well. Texture could have used a bit more help as the cucumbers were good for crunch, but more were needed. I think I should have put some of the kale salad in the burger as that had plenty of chew. Tucson-produced prickly pear kombucha rounded out the meal. Price was a bit steep as I dropped about $20 for lunch. I am very glad that I tried it.

Papou George’s Hot Dogs – Menu with Prices – 303 Oyster Point Rd, Newport News

Warning: BRING CASH. This place doesn’t accept credit cards. There is an ATM owned by the restaurant. Using this ATM racked up almost $10 in fees overall. Inside is 50’s type retro kitch and various license plates nailed to the wall. It’s small, moderately clean and home to a mostly older crowd. The food was OK. I have had better for the price. I got a veggie omelette and my companion had a burger and onion rings. The omelette was passable, even though the veggies were basically raw giving it a strange crunch. The burger, however, was disappointing. The burgers are pre-formed patties like you find in the freezer aisle. Unless it says otherwise all burger and sandwich prices are for just the burger or sandwich: any sides are extra. My companion felt like they were being nickle and dimed on an overpriced freezer burger. I’ll stick to Viking Burger, 5 guys or Vancostas for my burgers. Pre-formed patties aren’t my thing. Cracker Barrel and Vancostas (again!) have better omelettes for the same price range. It wasn’t terrible, but I can’t see me going back any time soon.

Lovelys in the city – Menu with Prices – 1622 NW 62nd St, Miami

A gem in the community!! Be still my beating heart. How long have I waited for healthy eating options in the neighborhood? Finally! Lovely’s in the City has taken up residence at the busy thoroughfare of 62nd Street and 17th Avenue. In the City! The restaurant occupies a long abandoned building. The owners have spent a sizable amount of energy making the inside and outside of the restaurant appealing, with bright colors. The inside has a few quaint tables where you can sit and enjoy your meal. It is meticulously clean. The menu choices contain the usual wings and fries. There is also the signature Lobster Burger. But the real attraction for me are the healthier options. There’s brown rice, wraps, grilled seafood and chicken, wraps, smoothies and salads. I chose the Grilled Chicken – Signature Salad. It was a lovely grilled chicken breast on a bed of fresh lettuce. Banana peppers, croutons, cheese, olives, an egg and tomato topped it off. While they have a variety of salad dressings, I opted for their special house dressing. It was a delicious balsamic based creamy dressing. I’m in love! I’ll be back!
