Grandpa’s Kitchen – Dry Noodles 168 is located right next door to newly opened Bubble Crush, with its own parking. My husband and I came here for an early dinner since we had a small lunch earlier. We were at Bubble Crush, luckily to get a free drink during their grand opening when we figured it would be easy to walk over here for dinner. We came in and were told by an employee to sit anywhere. Being that it was our first time here, I didn’t know what I wanted and took a while to look at the menu. There are just a lot of choices and I had no idea what I wanted. An employee had asked if I would like suggestions. And so after that, we ended up ordering: #19 Mi Bo Vien (Egg Noodle Soup w/ Beef Meatballs), $9 prior to tax- My husband ordered this. I did not try this but he said he thought it was okay. This definitely was a pretty large portion of meatballs inside the soup. #9 Hu Tien Kho Nam Vang (Noodles w/ Pork, Shrimp, Liver, Heart, Quail Egg with bowl of soup served on the side, not shown), $9 prior to tax- I ordered this, as one of the recommendations that one of the employees made. I don’t eat a whole lot of pork and thought the pork was just okay. It was pretty fatty and wished it was a little bit leaner. The liver was plain and didn’t care for it (I have had liver before and felt this liver needed a bit more seasoning) so I gave it to my husband. I liked the shrimp but there was not a whole of it in there. Also this dish only came with 1 quail egg and wished there was a few more, since they are so small. I liked the chew and texture of the noodles. Liked the seasoning of the noodles. A pretty filling dish, this could easily be shared with a second person. Mung Bean Milk Tea, $3.95 prior to tax- Free with Yelp check in. We both were able to get a free one. Just love mung bean and thought this was perfect. I did not request for a modification on the sweetness level since I believe the drink has been already premade. I just let the ice melt and thought it was at a good level of sweetness. I think this is a good Yelp check in perk. ———————— (Total= $19.58 after tax, prior to tip) Please note that there is a minimum of $10 for credit card transactions. Service was friendly and wait time for our food was only a few minutes. Please note that the menu only has pork and shrimp on the menu. I don’t recall seeing chicken and beef on the menu or vegetarian options. However, I am sure if you just ask to omit the meat, then that can suffice for those wanting the vegetarian route. The unisex restroom (in the back, behind the register) was clean upon this visit and adequately stocked with the essentials. Overall, we had a good dining experience and would consider coming back.

Exotic Sweets Menu with Prices 7064 Siegen Ln Ste A, Baton Rouge

The name of the restaurant is misleading! What this restaurant offers includes Poke Bowls, Bento boxes, sushi, hibachi meals and hibachi noodles. Also offers authentic high grade Chinese soup noodles. In addition they do offer multiple types of flavored teas and bubble tea, as well as made to order ice cream rolls. First: they make good Poke Bowls, with good assortment of vegetables including mangoes and avocados. You can have 1, 2 or 3 meat topping choices with pricing around $10 for 2 toppings and $11 for 3. Also good choices of sauces and sprinkle toppings. This has become my favorite place for Poke Bowl. Today I tried the Hibachi sauteed noodles (choose egg noodle) with shrimp at the recommendation of my friend who had tried all the different types of noodles. The shrimp noodle is great! Portion is generous and they gave up to 10 large shrimps. Cannot beat the quality and portion for the price of around $8.50 Will definitely get this dish again . The authentic Chinese noodle is done with very flavorful clear soup done with some herbs, mushroom, small dried scallops and different meats such as ox tail, pork ribs, duck and black skinned chicken(free range). All these noodles are around $9 or less. Definitely soup done the right way and they do not use MSG. They also have a wonton soup with multiple unusual thin skinned tiny wontons; the clear soup base that is served with the wontons is also very tasty. My wife tried some sushi once which was fine. Today my wife ordered the passion fruit flavored tea with mango jelly and red bean, and I had matcha tea with red and mung bean. (Could have two items added to the tea, including the various bubble tea pearls which we did not order with our teas today). Quite pleased with them. Also had their rolled ice cream once. Pretty good and inexpensive, considering the generous six ice cream rolls that come with each order. I have visited this place 5 times so far, and have yet to be disappointed. Haven’t tasted the various appetizers, bento boxes, fried rice… I think this is a restaurant that is definitely worth a try: quality food at an inexpensive price. The restaurant is quite clean with tasteful contemporary decor.

Noodle King Vietnamese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 32 Ave NE, Calgary

Since I’ve eaten here about 8 times, I’d say this place satisfies my hankering for noodles. You know. It happens to all of us. My favorites are #44 with no pork and now #26 with only shrimp. So what this means … is that they will substitute the other stuff with more shrimp. Which is great because the shrimp here is good. Not tough, good flavor, good size and cooked well. The broth of my soup today (seafood soup, but only had shrimp) was really good. I’ve ordered what another yelp are described as the house special with soup on the side… That soup broth was kind of gross in my opinion. I didn’t touch it. I didn’t add anything to my soup today nor did they bring us a plate of bean sprouts, thankfully I was with someone who spoke Vietnamese and asked for some. But no mint or a red chili and Thai basil or mint .. none of that came with our soups. My lunch mate ordered the first pho on the menu – the house with everything in it – she chose egg noodles instead of rice noodles. We enjoyed both of our dishes. So all in all I like this place because it’s quick, delicious, good attitude (snappy positive Vietnamese woman who want to make you happy) and its also a comfortable place to sit down. Nice booths and chairs you can sink into, the lighting is nice, not blaring or uncomfortable but muted, a bit dim and it’s a nice busy place mostly all of the time. I can’t decide between four and five stars, so I’ll give Noodle King four, since eight out of 10 times was good.

Szechuan Opera – Menu with Prices – 630 Park Ave, Rochester

I really wanted to give this place 2 or even 3 stars after the first 5 minutes. It takes a lot for me to slam a restaurant with that low of a rating, but I thought this was going to be one of those times. But there was a LOT of positive that brought my attitude right back up. My first time at Szechuan Opera was to get food to go on a Friday evening. The place was pretty empty when I got there at 5:30pm, so I was a little leery about the decision to try it out. First concern. I sat at the bar and looked over the menu to decide what I wanted. The staff was pleasant and asked me if I wanted anything to drink while I decided. Very pleasant, I thought… maybe my first impression was wrong. And people are starting to come in for dinner. My wife had texted me her order earlier, and that she wanted Pork Belly Steamed Buns, so I started my order with that. Oh, so sorry, we are out of those, and the Steamed Juicy Buns, too. Ugh! Now I had to call her and find out what she wanted me to order instead. Took me a while to reach her, and I found myself annoyed that the first item she wanted wasn’t available. Okay, we decided to substitute the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and I added Mung Bean Noodle in Black Bean Sauce. The person taking my order helped me understand the difference between that item and Chengdu Style Mung Bean Nood Noodle. Nice. Next I asked for her second item, Spicy Vermicelli with Minced Pork and Bok Choy. Oh, sorry, the server said, that’s a typo – there is no Bok Choy in that dish. WTF? I thought. Seriously? A typo in the title of a dish is understandable (one of their items is erroneously named Seafood Rice Doodle Soup), but specifying an ingredient in the dish name that isn’t in the dish is NOT a typo. Other dishes included bok choy, so I asked if they could add bok choy to this dish. She went back to ask the chef and came back and said they could. Okay, problem solved, but a problem that should have simply never existed in the first place. Don’t call it a typo, just make it as described, for pity’s sake. Second concern. I was thinking I should just leave. These people don’t have their stuff together, I thought. Third, I feel that their prices are high. I get it, the decor is really nice, so this is a good choice for a date or out of town friends. Fine. But $9 for lettuce wraps? I ordered the less expensive Home Style Tofu, and my bill came to almost $50 before tip for 2 starters and 2 entrees. I felt that it was at least $10 over priced. Okay, if you read this far, thanks. Now the reason for the 4 stars. The staff was very, very attentive and pleasant. VERY. I was impressed. Finally, the food was REALLY excellent. Being Szechuan, it was all quite spicy as anticipated. But the flavors were very well thought out and executed. The ingredients were all very fresh and carefully cut to perfect proportions for the dish. I cannot come up with one single complaint about the food itself, which is why I will be back to dine in for a nice night out sometime soon.

Chongqing Dumpling Menu with Prices 14603 NE 20th St #4B, Bellevue

We came here today for lunch and was very excited to try it. We got here a little after they opened and there was only one other group in there. Service was average, they’re more comfortable talking to you if you speak Mandarin. We ordered the deep fry pork belly, Chinese donuts, chicken rice noodle soup, pork corn dumplings, and the pork shrimp dumplings. Ithe food came out very staggered. The Chinese donuts came out first. The chinese donuts were more like you tiao (only know how to say it in Cantonese) where you soak them in soy bean milk (or my favorite is to eat with congee). We did not order soy bean milk, but kind of wish we had at that point. I was not a fan of the donuts as they were very fried with little of the spongy bread body to go with it. It was like eating a long chip. The deep fried pork belly was okay. Kind of plain? The spices that came on the side helped. The dumplings were good, but very average. Something you could make at home. The pork and corn was interesting, I liked them more then the pork shrimp ones which had a slightly odd flavor to me. The chicken rice noodle soup came out way later then everything else, to the point where we were kind of full. I really enjoyed the chicken noodle soup. It honestly tasted like a more gourmet Campell’s chicken noodle soup. Even the noodles almost had the same time but obviously a little better. I enjoyed it although the chicken was super dry. Food prices were average, but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way for this place. The food was just okay. It didn’t impress me as much as I was hoping it would. Service was fine, the lady (who I believe might also be the manager/owner) very kindly gave us some coupons to return. When we left, the tables started filling up and getting very busy.

Mi la Cay – Vietnamese Restaurant #1150 – Menu with Prices – 4500 Satellite Blvd #1150, Duluth

I was heading over to try Kups when I saw the sign for Mi La Cay and decided to go and try it out. This is the first and only Mi La cay franchise in the Georgia Area – the other US branches of this franchise can be found around California ( I believe there are only about 4 locations scattered there). That said, I am excited to try something different and rare. The owner Hsi has been here about a year and has moved here from California where she ran another Mi La Cay for ten years. That said, she has a bit of experience with these noodles and I loved the dish that I got. Obviously seeing the sign on the door of the house noodle soup made fro Mi La Cay, I wanted to go that route my first time here. The Soup actually came out rather fast. I was still breaking out my gear when she brought it out and it came with a separate side dish which looked like a shrimp fried inside some sort of chip. I found out later this is the Shrimp Cake that comes with the dish. It’s hard to talk about the taste of the broth when you’re at a Vietnamese restaurant. This is because there is a full table of sauces and peppers for you to customize it to your liking. For this reason, I can usually only judge a Vietnamese soup by the quality of the ingredients. The waiter broke out jalapenos for me to add as well as the usual chili sauce, ginger, hoisin, soy, etc. After saucing it up a bit – I was more happy with the broth. The Mi La Cay style noodles – unlike your traditional noodles used in pho, are about the same size as pho but much thicker since they are egg based noodles. I like this actually better due to the fact that its more filling and holds in more flavor. The chicken was a bit confusing to me at first (having a whole chicken leg in your soup is a little unorthodox) but it became one of my favorite parts of the dish. I would literally come here just to buy the chicken (don’t see it on the menu, unfortunately). The sliced pork also was done very well so all together the full combination worked out. So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1633 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery

Excellent Korean noodle soup. Of course we started with all the typical small side dishes, but they were even better than what I’m used to up in Boston!! The cucumber kick was excellent, so fresh. The bean sprouts had a good amount of other toppings, I especially liked the green onions with it, and one dish was fried lotus, which I never had before and was really good. For the main, I had the vegetarian and my boyfriend had the kimchi soup. I loved my soup because it was super flavorful, full of veggies, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. I was SO full at the end. I wasn’t able to completely finish it but I got close. The kimchi variety had a little bit of beef in it, but mostly kimchi.

T’s Seafood – Menu with Prices – 3200 Tait Terrace, Norfolk

I was wandering around norfolk with a crazy hankering for steamed shrimp & stumbled across Ts! It’s a basic takeout seafood market, I came in ordered a 1/2 lb of steamed. I almost said “heavy seasoning” but stopped myself for some reason & im glad I did bc the shrimp was (imo) super spicy! I’ve never had steamed shrimp with that much KICK! I really enjoyed it & the shrimp were super plump! If you’re not a fan of spicy food I would definitely let them know to go ez on the seasoning prior to completing the order.

Double Greeting Chinese Snack House – Menu with Prices – 355 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg

Haven’t been for a long time til recently. Wonton noodle soup (has pork & shrimp in wontons), noodles with spicy shredded pork, noodles with green onion & ginger, and steamed pork buns are all still very good. Atmosphere is old and basic, owners are friendly, quality is good.

Teriyaki Japan Inc – Menu with Prices – 8902 165th St # 115, Jamaica

Called Sarkura and located in the basement of the Colosseum Mall, this is one of the few eating establishments trying to make a go of it in the Colosseum Mall. They offer cheap chicken, beef or shrimp with vegetables and rice or noodles in a Japanese-like sauce. For those that pass on the meat and shrimp, like your favorite vegetarian reviewer, they have veggies with rice or Soba noodles. While the serving is plentiful and cost low (about $3.00) the flavor is low too. Very blend. They get a plus for having a veggie dish, but even vegetarians enjoy flavor. Not worth the stop on the limited vegetarian tour of Jamaica.

Pho Binh Minh Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 819 Sargent Ave, Winnipeg

Lovely new Vietnamese restaurant on Sargent! It’s a rather large restaurant that’s has a very bright, simple yet pretty decor in a very clean space. This place is where the former “Martini’s” Italian restaurant use to be (years ago) which has it’s own little parking space. P2 – rare beef pho (large $8.50) – there could have been more slices of beef but overall it was a good pho. The broth was lighter and leaned to a slight sweetness with a tinge bit more oil than I normally like but it was still good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and tasted great with the small dish of bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime and real bird’s eye chili. The ice coffee here is super strong and delicious – I highly recommend if you like stronger coffee! The best dishes here has to be their vermicelli bowl or “bun” and the “banh xeo”. V27 deluxe vermicelli bowl ($9.75) has grilled pork, spring rolls, grilled pork meatballs with veggies/herbs and vermicelli noodles. The vermicelli is served warm (which is a subtle thing many Viet places don’t do) which really adds to all the flavour once you pour on the fish sauce. The grilled pork is nicely seasoned and everything mixes really well in this dish. The banh xeo sort of looks like an omlette but it’s really more like a crispy savoury crepe/pancake. It’s made of rice flour, water, turmeric (which gives it that yellow colour) and it’s filled with pork, shrimp and bean sprouts. You eat it with lettuce and dip it into the fish sauce. I don’t normally order banh xeo as they always taste soggy but this one is super crispy and has lots of great flavour! Definitely give this one a try. Good as a shared appy or a light meal. Overall, great place with good prices and the service is very friendly!

Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia – Menu with Prices – 1427 Noriega St, San Francisco

We actually discovered dry noodles the prior weekend and loved it so much we wanted more! We wanted to try something new instead of the standard Vietnamese of pho, bun, and the rice plates. I was on yelp and found that one of my yelp friends come here a lot and we wanted to dine in the sunset as well so it was prefect. We came for brunch on Sunday around 11am. Metered parking – free on Sundays. The place is a bit small with varying booths and tables. Half capacity when we arrived. We were given a booth. They speak Canto and Viet here. I ordered a number 22 – seafood with thin egg noodles with soup on the side. My husband ordered the same except with a mix of rice noodles and thin egg noodles. Complimentary soy milk – hot or cold. It was pretty delicious and you get a decent amount of food – including the toppings. The egg noodles were the clear favorite amongst the two of us. I am glad I got the soup on the side. Although, I did like it was a bit on the sweeter side for my liking. The soy milk was refreshing and pretty smooth. Pretty good deal as it was 21 dollars for both our meals. Two restrooms. Street parking. Rideshare. Public transport (N) credit card $15 dollar min I would come back but it is a bit out of the way for us.

Hart’s Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 830 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Mobile

I want d some good chicken after the game and looked on Yelp and found this place. It looks like it was an old Krystal’s. Their menu is pretty simple and to the point. Ms. Antionette was very helpful from the back! I ordered the 6 piece wings with fried okra, coleslaw and a side of the liver and rice. The chicken had a good crispy outside and on the inside was juicy and you can taste the flavor all the way through. The seasoning wasn’t over powering and the breading was very light. The fried okra was good but the liver and rice surprised me a lot. I thought it would have been fried livers on the side but they do theirs different. They include the liver, rice and gravy all in one! If I knew it was going to be that good, I would have ordered a bigger one. This is a great place to stop and get some of the best fried chicken in the gulf!
