This is a wonderful local studio! What the owner has done with the space is absolutely beautiful as soon as you enter you feel automatically welcomed, relaxed & at home! The space welcomes all levels! I love that they have all new equipment and yoga mats ready to go for you! They have the most amazing seating area with tall ceilings & the most delicious tea! all adds to the great vibe. Exactly what you need to start, continue or end your day! My instructor Karina was Phenomenal! She’s an amazing instructor with a wealth of knowledge and passionate in her teaching! She works around the room so everyone feels the personal touch. She knew how to guide depending on each persons personal level. One of the best teachings I’ve had in a very long time. You can tell she’s there out of pasión for the practice! I highly recommend this studio! My picture doesn’t do this place justice. But trying to share share how beautiful the seating room area for tea / relax time is!

The Space Between – Menu with Prices – 222 W Hubbard Street, Lower Level SE, Chicago

From exploring the website, I gathered that the organization was independent and intentional, a nice break from the corporate studios in Chicago. Before class, Catherine connected with students to understand what muscles or areas her audience was interested in working on during class. Towels, mats, and blocks are provided for free and mat positions are selected before class even begins. Brilliant idea that allows instructor to control mat spacing and students to select positioning without any communication. The space itself is quaint and beautifully decorated. Some of the studio walls are built with exposed brick, the are chandeliers hanging from the ceiling with dimly lit bulbs, and candle filled lanterns are scattered around the floor. While aesthetically pleasing, the dark room encouraged me to focus on my movement and individual practice rather than the external environment. As the studio grows, I have a couple suggestions to improve student experiences. I encourage the website to maintain instructor bios to allow students to understand teacher’s styles before selecting a class. I found the spacing in between mats insufficient and at times worried the woman in front of me may accidentally kick my head during inversion play. The lockers are quite small to fit work bags and there was only one bathroom and one changing room. Overall the space was beautiful and warming and class was a memorable and eccentric experience ? I appreciate the small scale of the studio and realize some of my suggestions are dependent on space and resources. Cheers to the female entrepreneur who opened the space between!

LaLaLå! Jivamukti Yoga Los Angeles – Menu with Prices – 421 Colyton St, Los Angeles

Wow. Wow!  WOW!  I just took my first two classes at Jivamukti LA, the new yoga studio.  And I liked it so much I am back again today!  I have to say if you are looking for a yoga studio in Los Angeles, and are reading my review, I think maybe you just found your studio. The place is magical and inviting, a cool hip blend of design, art and industrial space in the arts district in DTLA. There is such warmth and love here.  The space radiates the energy of its owner HaChi, whose classes I was lucky enough to take on my first visit.  There is something about practicing yoga with a master teacher that is truly transformative.  They inspire you to be your best.  And here in the heart of LA; there is exactly that with HaChi and her yoga studio. I find myself leaving two types of reviews on Yelp, those that warn others of a very bad experience to avoid and those where it was so special, so amazing I want everyone to experience it.  My visit to Jivamukti LA was the latter, times ten. This is not yoga organized by a large corporation, but rather a beautiful space created from the heart and passion of the individual owner wants to share her knowledge and love of the yogic teachings. It’s special, in that way and a real gem for Los Angeles Finally, a word about the location, it’s in the arts-district of DTLA, and I was very hesitant to drive “all the way from Pasadena.”  But here’s the secret to DTLA that is so easy to forget.  Downtown is centrally located and is, in fact, so close – to most everything!  It took me just a bit over 35 min in evening rush-hour to make the trip.  It would be the same from Hollywood and a host of other places in LA.  So, don’t let the location put you off trying it.  Also, I was easily able to find street parking nearby.   So, give it a try. I think you might have found your yoga studio! (Really!!)

Soul1 Studio – Menu with Prices – 17961 Sky Park Cir unit A, Irvine

Edit: had to take my review down to 1 star. Without warning, there was a schedule change and two of my favorite instructors are gone (Joisa and Ana). Ruckus and Ashley are still there and are great but not enough to meet all my fitness needs. (Only 2 days /week and the new class times weren’t convenient for me). Since there was no notice of these changes, management did refund my money for the remaining classes I purchased in advance. I was excited for the opening of this studio because I have taken Joisa’s classes at other locations, and she had always been one of my favorite instructors. Her classes are energetic, upbeat, and physically vigorous, but so fun they seem to pass too quickly. I purchased a class pack, but i realized I’m going to burn through it in no time, because ALL the instructors are AMAZING. Seriously. Joisa’s hip hop cardio and kickboxing classes are a favorite, as are Ruckus’ dance fitness and Ashley’s hip hop 8. I’m looking forward to trying the others as well. There are a variety of classes – hip hop cardio, kickboxing, pilates, sculpt (weights), stretch sculpt, and reggaeton fusion. The studio itself is very nice any clean. I particularly like that it’s a long, narrow room, with a wall of mirrors. There is room for about 3 long rows. That means that even if the class is completely full, you will have a clear view of the instructor. Being on the short side, I hate deep studios because I can never see the instructor from the back of the room. I strongly recommend

Calavera studios – Menu with Prices – 1088 Redondo Ave, Long Beach

I’m a HUUUUUGE fan! The studio itself is new. It has a beautiful, modern looking interior and is very clean, polished, and professional. I follow all of the artists on IG (Steven, Lyn, Derek, Adrian) and have found they are all incredibly talented, genuine, and very friendly people. Each artist has a unique style so their studio can really cater to any clientele. If you’re looking for a great tattoo studio, I highly recommend this one! Here is my experience with my artist Steven. I found him on IG and quickly became a fan of his Asian style artwork, noticing all the intricate details and overall composition. When it came to designing my tattoo (my first ever), all I knew was that I wanted the center subjects to be a crane and a peony and I wanted the placement on my hip. I left the rest up to his imagination. Well, Steven ended up finishing the design that very night, and sent me a picture the next day! I came in for 2 sessions total to finish this piece and was so impressed by the amount of dedication and attention to detail that Steven puts into his work. Not only is he passionate about his art, you can visually see that it has a ton of heart and soul, and possesses some stunning personal flair. I loved the piece so much, I came back in for a second large and colored piece on my opposite hip. It needs another session to be completed, but nearly 4 months after my last, the colors are still vibrant and full, which speaks volumes about the work put into it. I can’t wait to come back and see the finished product!

Anacostia Arts Center – Menu with Prices – 1231 Good Hope Rd SE, Washington

Art-drenaline Cafe is a local coffee shop in SE DC right in the heart of historic Anacostia. It’s in the very back of the Anacostia Arts Center, which is a very cool art gallery/shopping space with free wifi and seating. It’s beautiful! Art-drenaline Cafe is the only food spot inside the arts center. They serve coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stopped in for coffee on my way to a meeting. Their menu is beautifully decorating the walls and the seating area is beautiful with plenty of space and free wifi. Each table talks about supporting local business in SE DC. The staff is very friendly and passionate about what they do. My latte was okay. It wasn’t smooth and rich like some other DC coffee shops, but it got the job done. I haven’t been yet for lunch, but I hear it’s amazing!

Nothing But Lashes – Menu with Prices – 21003 Highland Knolls Dr Unit 300, Katy

Nothing But Lashes is a Studio Salon so it’s very private and personal. Nina is a very talented individual who’s goal is to provide beautiful lashes in a relaxing environment. Service: I have selected to get regular set of lashes. Even tho I asked for a regular set she made my lashes look very voluminous. Her attention to detail is quite frankly scary. She leaves no space in between my lashes. She gives me very detailed instructions for after care for my lashes. Cleanliness: The studio it self is very clean. Her tools are sealed in those sterile blue pouches so you know she’s using a clean set every time. Relaxation: Her bed is equipped with a massage pad underneath *drools*. She plays appropriate music to the appropriate client. She makes sure you are comfortable before starting the service by providing you with a blanket if you’re cold and turning on the massage table. In the end I would be recommending Nina to anyone that wants to get their lashes done.

Breathe Salt Yoga – Menu with Prices – 2528 Ocean Ave, San Francisco

Review for the SALT ROOM ONLY: I found this beautiful spot while scrolling for nothing-in-particular on Groupon….so happy I purchased a couples packages I emailed to book my two sessions (45 minutes for 2 people/each) – Olga, one of the owners emailed me back right away with availability and she got me and my friend in the same day (and my other requested day too ? ) So much street parking when I got here around 630pm. Easy to find the studio – they have a big sign up, can’t miss it. The entryway is clean and simple with white walls and the studio name painted on the wall. Great for a yelp check-in photo ? The check-in area is instantly welcoming with pink salt lamps and an area to purchase yoga gear, and benches to sit on while you store your shoes underneath. For the salt room, you’re given little booties to slip on your feet so you don’t get too salty. I’ve never tried a salt room before so when I walked in me and my friend were shocked at how beautiful it was. Honestly, we laughed because it was so awesome. The floor is like a sandbox…but pink salt. Pink salt blocks line the walls entirely, with beautiful pinks light seeping in to create a womb-like atmosphere. Cozy and comforting. A little “spout” shoots out salt “mist” through your session. It’s really magical. If you don’t want to sit on the floor like children (like we did, my friend made a tick tac toe out of salt too lmao) then you can sit in the loungers inside the room (5 loungers whooo-hooo!) We didn’t meditate or sit quietly(had the room to ourselves), but we used the space as a relaxing place to hang out and catch up, while sharing laughs AND reaping the benefits of a salt room! Yay! Anyways, I’ll be back in a few days already. Check this place out it’s so so so fun!

Necessary Purveyor – Menu with Prices – 723 Lincoln Ln N, Miami Beach

The best farm to table meals I’ve had! I got to enjoy Necessary Purveyor three times during my vacation to Miami. Tyler (the owner) have a wealth of knowledge in culinary art and is a true artist of culinary. The avocado pizza is the best pizza ever, with beet hummus spread on wheat toast. The colors were vibrant and great contrast and taste was delicious and full of nutrients! I also recommend the forager sandwich, I’m not a fan of arugula but it was really good. Also recommend the avocado biscayne boat!! Mirian, who also works there, had pleasant energy like Tyler, both crafted our meals with care and beautiful presentation. If you like farm to table meals, try this place out, very creative meals compared to the usual farm to table I’ve had. If you don’t like farm to table, still, I highly recommend! So good!

SM Stretching – Menu with Prices – 111 N La Cienega Blvd Suite B, Beverly Hills

Took my first full body stretch class here and loved it! 1. It’s energized – not like a yin yoga class. Upbeat music + encouraging instructors. 2. The studio is gorgeous and very clean. The equipment is all set up for you when you arrive. I didn’t see a water refill station, but could’ve missed it. Fill up your reusable bottle beforehand just in case. 3. I was a little worried it was going to being intense Russian ballerina vibes, but the instructor and front desk staff were so friendly and welcoming. There were also a lot of other first-timers in class. 4. Updated lockers (with a built in lock) to store your stuff. 5. Ample street parking on La Cienega and also a $5 valet lot (cash only) in back. 6. You can go barefoot or wear socks in class. I opted for barre grip socks, but regular socks would’ve worked too. 7. Had a little trouble hearing the instructor over the music, but she demonstrated every movement well. 8. Lots of hands-on adjustments to help you get deeper in the stretch. Definitely inform the instructor of any injuries beforehand.

10th Planet Oakland Jiu Jitsu – Menu with Prices – 301 8th St, Oakland

I’ve been to 5 different gyms over the span of 1.5 years looking for a gym that approaches teaching jiu jitsu with a systematic, incrementally progressive approach as opposed to the (in my opinion) less effective sporadic nature of most gyms that just teach a random move and have you go spar. 10p Oakland and head instructor Mike have by far contributed the most to my development as a grappler. On 10th Planet: The first gym I’ve been to has jiu-jitsu related, no bullshit warmups that do a great job both getting your body warmed up and teaching you positional awareness while helping you build intuition for what goals you have in the numerous positions you find yourself in in grappling. No burpees, no jumping jacks, no ab crunches, no playing soccer – my biggest pet peeve at other schools was warming up for 20-30 minutes wondering if we’d ever get to start learning things. They have an explicit curriculum regarding what you should be focusing on during what weeks, and track your attendance to see if you’re ready for belt promotion or tournament prep or whatever have you. On Professor Mike: Easily the best instructor I’ve had. First, his knowledge of the art is insane, and his competitive accolades speak for themselves. When he teaches something, he can break down every little detail and explain why you do techniques a certain why as opposed to others. Why the grip is this way, where your weight should be, what’s your main objective in this position and what your opponent’s is, how this position relates to other positions you could find yourself scrambling to, the list goes on and on and Mike has never left a doubt in my mind on why we were doing things a certain way. Aside from his expertise, what really amazed me when I came to 10p Oakland was how much Mike cares about his students. I’ve been to other gyms where instructors “care about their students” but that usually only refers to higher belt students and those who have been there a long time. Ever since the first time I walked into 10p, Mike is always persistent in making sure every student, no matter experience level, has their questions answered and drills their moves properly. Even in the large beginner classes he would go down the line at the end of class and have every person’s questions answered. I’ve only ever had one other instructor do this, and that was with a small (~10 person) advanced class. As another example, I’m moving to SF to be closer to work, and when I approached Mike to let him know I’d have to cancel my membership, there was nothing but support and great advice on which gyms I should take a look at tailored to my interests as a grappler, even offering to introduce me to the head instructors at the other gyms. Overall, I couldn’t recommend 10th planet and Professor Mike Hillebrand enough.

Maybeck Studio for the Performing Arts Menu with Prices 1537 Euclid Ave, Berkeley

This studio was the most historically beautiful space I have ever had the privilege of enjoying classical pieces in. Would go back a million times over for almost any type of acoustic performance!

GritCycle Huntington Beach – Menu with Prices – 7454 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach

GritCycle HB is a great place to get a good workout in only 45 min. If I wasn’t already familiar with how this type of workout classes were structured, I would have no idea how to set up my bike, or how to ride to the beat, or how to use the locker. I think they could do a lot more as far as helping first time riders, when it comes to the staff. Same with the instructors, The first class I took the instructor wasn’t using a mic, or the lights, and he wasn’t clear on what foot to ride to, and he wasn’t on the podium for me to look at as an example, it just seemed unstructured. I took another instructor at 5:45 AM and they were late, and there was no music for 15 min which I thought was so weird, nothing to do warm up to? Nothing at all, I was so surprised how we were in a room with no sound waiting at the butt crack of dawn with no music to wake me up. We were all given a complimentary class so that was good of them. Also, if you miss a class, or cancel a class outside the canceling time frame, you’ll be charged 15$ for a no show or canceling fee – not a fan, I canceled a class on accident on the app and was automatically charged, and lost my class I had paid for. I also would like to be able to see the music each instructor plays on the app, not just a Spotify or Instagram link. As a new studio, they should really try to keep the bikes clean, if you look in the crevices of the bike bars it’s a little crusty, and some people might be ok with that, but I feel a little grossed out by it. Another thing I found strange was one instance there was a woman who had just came out of a class, and she was hanging out behind the desk, and she wasn’t on the clock, not scheduled to work, not in uniform, talking to me as if she works there, like I’m suppose to know she’s staff, as I’m grabbing a bottle of water to pay for. I didn’t think it was appropriate of her to be behind the desk if she’s not scheduled to work, like if they need more staff they should schedule more people, don’t let your staff who are not working behind the counter, that’s just not professional, and the way she was talking to me like “did you pay for that water,” like, I’m sorry do you work here, because it looks like you don’t, and you are coming at me rude and unprofessional like, if you do work here. I really believe they need to train their staff better, and with a more positive attitude coming from SoulCycle. I’ve only been to Grit because they are down the street from me, but honestly I would drive further just for the simple fact that the staff is so much nicer and the instructors are a lot more descriptive and professional at Soul. Change my mind GritCycle because I really want to like you. Maybe I need to go to a different city?
