It had been a while since I last visited the Golden Lyon but a good friend suggested I check out their Sunday brunch, I didn’t even know they had brunch, I am glad I went back because the food was amazing. I had the steak and eggs, the food was perfectly cooked, quality ingredients and very reasonably priced, plus Mimosas, Bellinis and Bloody Mary specials. The bar is in the inside of Riverside Hotel and it is frequented by locals and hotel guests alike. Great specials like their 10 for $10 menu with options like Burnt Ends and Lemon Chipotle chicken. They have an awesome daily Happy Hour, yes everyday! 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. 50% off drinks and 50% off Specialty Bar Bites Menu. Service was very friendly and attentive.

Sugary & Chic Cake Boutique – Menu with Prices – 2705 Bammel Ln, Houston

Sheron from Sugary and Chic was great to work with. She took the time to really listen to our likes and dislikes and ultimately pulled together a really awesome wedding cake for our brunch wedding. It had waffles and donuts on top, which was perfect for my husband and me, as breakfast lovers. It gets better though – Sheron suggested a 5 flavor donut wall which fit in perfectly with our theme. Our wedding guests were in brunch HEAVEN! Did I mention all of the flavors were also amazing? That’s right. A baker who not only has amazing designs, but also puts out delicious tasting goods. This is real life.. Cake: coconut cream with mango filling in one; lemon buttercream with raspberry filling in the other… Donuts: tiramisu, maple and candied bacon, cookies and cream, lemon blueberry, and classic pink sprinkle. Our wedding guests haven’t stopped talking about it. Do yourself a favor. Check out the awesome designs on her website and schedule a cake tasting ASAP.

Red Door Woodfired Grill – Menu with Prices – 8001 W 159th St, Overland Park

This was a great restaurant experience! I was in town for work and this place was across the street. Atmosphere was nice, they had a few tv?s but it had a nice casual/classic/relaxed vibe that felt comfortable. The service was phenomenal. Olivia knew the menu well and suggested a couple of different options to me. I ended up with the sirloin which was really good. The sweet potato fries were incredible! They also had some brunch options available that looked really good. I ended lunch with the beignets. The strawberry-vanilla custard was great! It also came with a really good hot-fudge dipping sauce as well. Overall, very happy I came here. Everyone had been telling me to check out the local BBQ joints, but after having two meals of BBQ in KC already (SLAP?s and Burnt Ends) I think everyone should be suggesting red door instead. Exceptional experience would recommend to anyone on the area!

Rosedale Barbeque – Menu with Prices – 600 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City

I’m sad to report that I just don’t get the hype behind Rosedale BBQ. I’ve lived in the KC metro most of my life and had never been here but always knew about it as a staple on the KC bbq scene. On the Fourth of July it was one of the only bbq places open so we decided to check it out. I will say that I love the ambiance. It feels like the kind of place that probably hasn’t changed in 50 years and I love that. Also, they have a huge beer selection, which is always a good sign. I’m a huge fan of burnt ends so I ordered the burnt ends and fries and was stoked to try them out. The fries were great but it was kind of downhill from there. The sauce is good but nothing better than others in town and unfortunately the burnt ends literally tasted like pot roast – no smoke or char at all. I’d love to like Rosedale bbq but it just isn’t as good as others in town.

Big Rascal BBQ & Grille (BR BBQ) – Menu with Prices – 3437 NW Blitchton Rd, Ocala

Ok. Here’s an updated review. Although I have had a few good meals here, I find it positively infuriating when restaurants are inflexible with their menu. I wanted a combo plate of ribs and burnt ends… well, you would have thought I’d have asked them to donate a vital organ to a stranger… impossible. I suggested that they sell me burnt ends by the pound to go along with my entree… NEVER! How about you just charge me a big up charge for your “inconvenience”. Nope. WTF??? I want to order MORE food, so you can charge me MORE money…. so what happens is I order something I didn’t really want in the first place. It tastes like regret and disappointment. I eat 2 bites and left it. I’m now angry, hungry,$50 lighter- and won’t be back Super pleasant surprise! Big Rascal is serving up plates of perfectly smoked meats and super tasty sides at a killer price. The huge menu has something for everyone: interesting starters like fried banana peppers and an array of entrees from smoked wings to baby back ribs, salads, sandwiches and so much more. The sauces come to your table warm and delicious- be sure to try the liquid gold mustard based sauce!! Side dishes are really solid and we even splurged for dessert (bread pudding) at our servers recommendation. It did not disappoint! Looking forward to trying the brisket and burnt ends. Beer was ICY ICE cold! And 2 for 1. Honestly, what else could you ask

Mulberry BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2441 N 11th St, Lincoln

Amazing BBQ. I would say the best in town. The ribs are smoked in just a way it doesn’t fall off the bone, but is juicy and tender. They were dry rubbed ribs and perfectly seasoned. And there was a lot of meat on those bones. The pulled pork wasn’t dried out like other BBQ places in this town. The burnt ends were actually moist and tender with a nice spicy kick to it. Unlike other places, where the burnt ends might as well be beef jerky due to the toughness. The smoked chicken was actually half of a whole chicken and amazingly juicy. The sliced brisket was also amazing with a nice spice to it. The potato salad had a homemade quality to it and tasted great. The Mac n Cheese was super cheesy with large shells instead of the normal elbow noodles. You could tell it was made from scratch unlike the made from a box taste other restaurants will serve. The only think surprising is the bbq beans. It isn’t the normal beans you maybe familiar with. They must be more of a North Carolina style of baked beans. Not the normal Bush’s Baked beans others are serving. Still the beans were good, but with a lot of kick to it. So if you like some spiciness, you should try the beans and the burnt ends. For the price, you get plenty of delicious BBQ.

KIAWE Island Bistro – Menu with Prices – 212 NE 164th Ave #12, Vancouver

Their Lechon is probably the best value for roast pork nearby. I’ve also tried their Teriyaki chicken (which was a bit dry) and Macaroni salad (it was blander than Mac salads I’ve had at other local Hawaiian places). I do wish that they posted their Daily Specials in advance, as it’s hard to say what specials will be available day-to-day. I work early hours and have my lunch hour at 11:00a (which is when they open). They do try to post their Daily Specials on Facebook; however, they’re often posted a little late. I’d gladly drive extra miles to appease my Filipino food cravings, if I knew what the specials were going to be in advance (even posting them the morning of or the night before would be helpful for patrons wanting to make lunch plans).

Power House Deli – Menu with Prices – 808 Pease St, Houston

I eat here almost every day after a workout and the food is fantastic. Any of the daily specials are good but my personal favorites are the Thai Chicken Wrap and the Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich. Taco Tuesday is awesome as well and I recommend the Korean tacos with bulgolgi beef. Tony and crew are great and prices are reasonable for downtown.

Nexus Blue Smokehouse Menu with Prices 1511 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque

Better than I expected, but one major flaw. It was handled well, but it’s a flaw. Upshot is we’ll be back to try it again and we hope to never see this particular flaw recur. Years ago I went to the original Nexus, shortly after it opened. People had been raving about the chicken and waffles, so I got them: the chicken hadn’t been properly cooked through and a cut into the drumstick ran blood. The staff whisked it away and replaced it with nachos (can’t mess those up, right?) and my wife and I enjoyed our evening. I wasn’t a fan of the Nexus beers so I didn’t rush back. Because of the buzz around the new Nexus Blue Smokehouse, I arranged to meet a friend (who lives near there) for lunch. I got the burnt ends with red chile sauce and greens; my friend got the chicken and waffle. Guess what? The fat leg of chicken (which _looked_ flat-out wonderful) had not been properly cooked. My friend made a cut into it and blood ran out. The very on-it waitress who was swinging by to see how we were doing just looked at it and went to take it away. She asked what my friend would like and he got the same order as me. And the burnt ends and greens were great. The BBQ was a little sweeter than I like but everyone does things his own way: the meat was tasty and done just right. Nice smoke flavor, nice meat flavor, nice level of fat. Price was a little on the warm side at $11 for a half pound of the ends (I was watching carbs so I turned down the accompanying bread; my friend accepted wheat bread with his replacement order) and the collard greens (which were very delicious and not overly salty) were $3.50. The manager came over to apologize to my friend – very professional – and she took his meal completely off the ticket (no charge even for his replacement meal of burnt ends and greens): this was handled wonderfully. The service was great with my tea and my friend’s diet Coke being replenished as needed. The room was really nice, with one of those garage doors that opened to let in a perfect Albuquerque spring day. We’ll be back for the barbecue. And I’m going to order the chicken and waffles, despite this run of bad luck with them. If it’s okay, then yay. If not, well Mr. Carson is going to need to get this figured out.

BRIO Tuscan Grille – Menu with Prices – 11776 Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax

Why oh why oh why is this Brio’s happy hour the only one that ends at 6:30! I thought it ended at 7 so I was super excited for cheap bar bites and drinks but sadly we sat down at 6:32PM. Still wanting my fave happy hour nomz, we got the beef carpaccio, the shrimp and eggplant appetizer, and the caccio e pepe. First of all, I’m confused in a good way that the appetizer portion and the happy hour carpaccio portion are wildly different sizes. Considering the happy hour size was pretty decent to begin with, the regular non HH portion was GI FREAKING NORMOUS! Tasted amazing, so good stuff. Taking a star away because our shrimp was overcooked, therefore tough and a tad burnt on the bottom, and the dish could use more sauce so I can sop it up with that bread I love soooo much. And the caccio e pepe the noodles were a little undercooked so a bit hard, just cook a lil longer till al dente ? Other than that our bartender was super nice and checked up on us, and we were there for 2 ish hours just chatting and having a good time. Now I know happy hour is 3-630 or something like that and will hustle on over faster.

The Charleston Pour House – Menu with Prices – 1977 Maybank Hwy, Charleston

We’ve lived down the street from this bar/venue for over 1 year, but had never entered. Had a handful of unfortunate experiences at the nearby Kwei Fei, perhaps that prevented us from crossing the threshold. About me & my sig other, we are from Utah, and between the 2 of us have lived in: San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Miami, and New York City. Walking into this slightly dive-y joint, was a breath of fresh air for us. Never considered to be a hipster, but live music patron; damn skippy. The space is much larger than the street preview would let on. The major interior is open air, which is awesome. Lots of tables & standing room. Bathrooms be damned, no maintenance, no soap-bring pocket sanitizer. It is refreshing to be in a space where the diversity of the patrons is celebrated. We forgot where we were, lost in the local punk bands of the night, cheering Jameson shots & enjoying a much needed release from the pollution of daily life. It is my understanding this space showcases bands nightly, locals & tourists alike, do check it out. Distraction is a necessary antidote to daily life. Cheers!

P T’s Olde Fashioned Grille – Menu with Prices – 8116 Market St, Wilmington

The following statement is not given, nor should it be taken, lightly: PT’s is an ILM Institution & Standard! Multiple locations and multiple years serving Locals and Gappers alike, PT’s is an ILM/WB staple! Unlike many places, they carved through the “Three-Year Curse” and remained true to their original purpose and goals: Great food, incredible locations, awesome interior designs, great & cycling on-Tap Selections all offered by a great Staff and Owners whom care about their Customers, as much as they do about the area!

Bark and the Bite – Menu with Prices – 2186 Marshall Ave, St Paul

The food for the most part was good. However, two things that really made my experience a frustrating one was: 1. The bun on my pulled pork sandwich was really burnt. After not touching our sandwich for over 10 minutes, the bartender failed to asked us if why we haven’t touch our sandwich yet? After stating the issue, he went back and got us two buns instead of taking the dish to the back to be replated. BBQ is messy and to ask a guest to literally take burnt buns of a pulled pork sandwich and have to reassemble it yourself is a rookie move by the staff. Furthermore, instead of apologizing, he gave an excuse that the reason for the buns being burnt is not because of the kitchen’s failure but more of the product because they just switched buns and they are having issues with it coming out burnt (sounds like an adjustment needed to be made) but instead, they did not. 2. The bartender failed to inform us of happy hour. I overheard a guest comment about their drink prices not being happy hour and the bartender made the adjustment and gave them happy hour prices. However, on our departure, when asked about the prices of our drinks, the bartender did not accommodate us. Furthermore, he failed to state happy hour selections to any of the other guests that sat at the bar. He should have made the price adjustments to our drinks being that he literally made those same adjustments for the guests that ordered right next to me. I would not recommend this for sit down dining because of the service issues. We spent $75 and felt robbed after what had happened. Either the bartender was not being honest about stating happy hour or intended for happy hour not to be recognized or was overwhelmed and could not relay that to the patrons at the bar. With that said, I am sad to say that I will not return. I was really looking forward to having a go to bbq spot near me but this will not be the one.
