Do you know that saying “I’m sorry for what I said when I was hungry.”? Well, I’m not sorry! It’s cold out, it’s late and I’m hungry. I stop to get soup, chicken chilly on the menu sounded great! Till i took it home and saw what I got! “Cooks” at Fuel have great sense of humor for creating this pathetic recipe, but I’m not laughing, because I paid for it! First of all they put grilled chicken in chili! Last time I checked chili required ground meat. Then they gracefully added raw onions, because who has time to caramelize them?! And like it wasn’t “funny” enough, they added potatoes! POTATOES! Isn’t it easier just to say “I’m sorry, but we don’t have chili tonight”? I’m too tired to vent more, I’m too tired to go back to return it and I’m tired to tell people that run restaurants how to cook! If you can’t follow simple soup recipes, how can you follow all the sanitation laws?! How?!

Lychee Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 23450 N 19th Ave, Phoenix

This review is based off of my main dish. I ordered the spicy tuna roll. Which is difficult to mess up. Its spicy so theres a kick present. But its ever so slight. I had to amp it by adding wasabi to each bite. I ordered the General Tsos Chicken. Which on the menu has an indicator letting you know its spicy. It wasnt. It tasting literally like maple syrup. There was no spice present. There wasnt even a smokey flavor. It was just sweet. I couldnt eat another bite without an adjustment made. So i asked for a side of chili oil. Even their chili oil had literally no spice to it. And i used the entire portion of chili oil they provided me with. Probably because its very old or just poorly made. It didnt even make my chicken any better. I picked at the veggies at the plate, requested my check and left. The service was prompt, courteous and friendly. But I guess I feel that I dont go to a resturant for service necessarily but instead i go for the food. But thats just me. I dont believe I will be going back unless its for their Thai Iced Tea. Which I hate to say it was the only tasty thing I ordered. Disappointing considering its a new spot. But Im hoping they make adjustments to their menu otherwise they may not last. Especially since Panda Express is just up the street with better flavors.

Meshack’s Bar-B-Que – Menu with Prices – 240 E Avenue B, Garland

Another highly recommended place that just proves some people have zero idea what good would be even if it hit them in the face. This may have been amazing 20 yrs ago – but today, compared to the high end bbq movement sweeping Texas (Ive eaten at most of the Tx Monthly top 10-15 joints too), this isnt even dickies level que. Some people like the novelty of a take out only shack with no seating. Fine. Some people like The idea of drowning bbq in sauce ( they prob like well done steak Too). Whatever. Im actually ok With the chaos that is the parking lot here. Running out quickly isnt even that bad to me. It keeps the daily product fresh usually and not a case of chopping yesterday’s leftovers into the 2 nd tier dishes like chopped sandwiches and baked potatoes. But when youre charging top dollar for mediocre beef, with none of the overhead other, much better places, have at the same price point – im out. We ordered sliced beef sandwiches, and knew the dining situation before arriving. However eating this sandwich in my truck, or even on the tailgate was impossible. It had an inch of sauce swimming in the foil. So much that BOTH bottom slices of bread were soaked through and just a wet mess. Even if i took this back to the office I would have had to eat it with a knife and fork because that sauce would be everywhere. It wasnt just a little too much. It was a ridiculous amount. But i know why. The sliced beef was DRY. Sure it had a good smoke ring and the bark had a decent flavor, but the pieces i pulled off and shook sauce off of were void of any moisture other than the actual sauce. The sauce wasnt even good. Very thin and watery. I couldnt put my finger on it but it had a sort of vinegary punch that wasnt pleasant at all. I am convinced it was thin and poured in excess to try and soak into, and mask the dry beef. Theres no other legit explanation for doing that. Serving $8 sandwiches on white bread is also a pet peave of mine. Thats what a hustler with a run down bbq trailer does in a strip club parking lot at 1:30 am. Not an established “legendary” bbq restaurant. At least a legit bun would have fended off some of the sauce for a little bit. To top it off, when we finished eating, i had to haul a gallon of bbq sauce in a paper bag off to the gas station trash and hope it didnt spill because there wasnt a trash can anywhere in sight. Not in the parking lot or out front. Which really made me question why there were so many flies around. Seriously- the flies when we ordered were BAD, but they were out in the lot too. Not worth a second trip, or a first one if you have taste buds or wearing nice clothes you dont want sauce on.

Fahrenheit Pizza & Brewhouse Menu with Prices 17 Lee St S, Asheville

Ok folks. Our first try here. The typical – I read so so many great posts I just had to come. So we did. Small establishment neat and clean . Staff was attentive and kind. Now let’s get to the action. You order at counter then take a seat. My pics explain the pies and calzone. My calzone was just ok. I guess I’m a spoiled long islander but growing up in NY the pizza mecca. I just expected a crust to be lighter more airy and yet still a bite. Very scarse ricotta. Mozzarella was aplenty. ( dont think its poll-o ) not much sausage or mushrooms. I so wanted it to be killer. I really did. With that said I would order a pie next time. My wife had the 16″vodka. She said it was ok so with that I took it she wasnt overwhelmed. My daughters half pepperoni I’m sorry to say was severly undercooked mostly bottom center of hers she stated sauce was to sweet. She prefers we stick with standard pizza. My son had the other half of that 16″ his was bbq chicken . He said the cheese was to thick and very minimal chicken. I also tried each of the different pies. I really wasnt overly impressed. We will try it again as I feel ALMOST everyone deserves a second chance. With soda drinks it was 57 dollars and some change. Standard n favillas are tough to beat. But no one in Asheville has yet to produce a true NY pie. It’s a combination of dough, sauce, proper cheese spices. And most of all the fold. A fold without “the drip” isnt pizza folks. If your from NY you know what I mean

Dragon Express / Pho Vietnam Express – Menu with Prices – 678 E St, Chula Vista

I was looking for pho in the area and came across this place. The reviews all seem so great so I decided to give it a try. All everyone sayd about this place is that its in a run down ghetto place. Thats definitely not the case. I ordered orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, y eggrolls, and large pho. My total came out to $35 a bit more than what i usually pay at my regular pho place. It was good but it wasnt the best like everyone says. Rice kinda tasted like it had been cooked since the morning and just sitting under heat. Orange chicken was ehh. The egg rolls where good. The pho was a big portion but it wasnt all that tasty it was missing lots of flavor. I was extremely disappointed since I was sick and pho was the only thing I was craving. I dont think i will be giving this place a second chance. I’ll most likely stick to my original pho place even if its a bit further.

The Lunch Bag Deli – Menu with Prices – 1441 Camino del Rio S, San Diego

Went into Fred’s for the first time today and it was such a pleasant experience, I will for sure be going back. It was a little hard to find at first (it’s inside a jewelry exchange) but once I got there I was greeted by Fred himself. He very kindly explained to me how the menu works, and that you get a complimentary cup of soup with your sandwich (at least until the soup runs out). Each day was a different soup and today was chicken noodle. Last night I had food poisoning and hadn’t eaten anything yet today, so by the time I got to his shop I was starving. Fred handed me a cup of the chicken noodle soup to go and since I was hungry I ate it right there. After fixing my sandwich, Fred was kind enough to give me a refill. While I was there, one of his regulars stopped by and he had her soup and sandwich all ready to go. Fred also does smoothies for under $3 that look pretty tasty for breakfast or a snack. I will definitely be going back for chili day!

Portside Lounge – Menu with Prices – 3000 Dryades St, New Orleans

This has turned into my Sunday afternoon place. Just for a few hours. We get to hang with the super friendly owner Danny or his awesome bartender Shannon. The drinks are all good. Until recently, I wasnt a gin drinker. They are converting me to one. There is a new bigger house cocktail list that my bff Wade and I try and get 3 news off the list on our Sunday visits. In between the new drinks, I enjoy the tried and true House Punch. It is a ever changing, evolving rum punch that is different on each visit. It is also one of the cheaper drinks. Its a great go to. There is also a few good beers to drink too. This isnt a snob bar by any means. I am talking a really chill laid back place to pass a afternoon. On most Sundays, they support local food pop ups. Queen Trini Lisa is there with her Trinidad doubles (love them!) or there is a burger night, or some bbq and I heard Kims Tamales will be there soon too. Follow Portside on Instagram to keep up with the pop ups and bands. They describe themselves as a remote island in central city. It actually is! Smack in the middle of a kinda sketchy hood, but dont let that stop you. Even on late nights when there is live music like Yellowman or the Suplecs playing, I havent seen any troubles. It is a dog friendly bar as well. The regular dude is Ringo. A all white lovie baby that is deaf. He should be reason enough to visit! Heads up, they make some mean bloody Marys too using St. Roch vodkas.

Thai Wasabi – Menu with Prices – 5250 E. State Rd. 64, Bradenton

First time for me, and I ordered to go. I got the massan man curry with tofu and my friend got the Penang curry with chicken. When we ordered we forgot to ask for medium spice level so I asked for some chili oil Togo. It was spiiiiiiccccyyyyyy and sooo good. I was assuming that it was a generic chili oil but the level of spicy was and color looks like it is made in house. When I came in for pick up the restaurant was packed and smell delicious. The curries were great. The massan man had potatoes, sweet potatoes, peanuts, and onions. The Penang has veggies and chicken. Both came with a side of rice. Each entree could easy be divided into 2/3 servings. I will definitely like to come back and try more foods!

Taverne in the Sky – Menu with Prices – 1950 S Ridge Rd, Green Bay

Our time here tonight we were hoping was going to be awesome. The menu and food choices looked amazing. We took mom here tonight. It would’ve been her and dads anniversary on Monday. He passed away last year and we wanted to have a nice evening. So we started out with drinks. They were fine. Then we ordered some apps. I ordered the fondue and mom got tempura vegg. The fondue was very very grainy. It also had way to much toast. It came with Granny Smith apple slices and also truffle honey. It would’ve been nice to have other fruit with it. But again way to grainy. Then for dinner I ordered the short ribs and my husband the rack of ribs. Ordinarily I would’ve said something to waitress about meal but since we were there on special occasion and I didn’t want to ruin the mood. The short ribs were cooked perfectly “EXCEPT” they were cold and had “ZERO” seasoning. It was on top of mashed potatoes and had green beans. The Beans were fine. Potatoes on the other hand were very very sad. For one, they had no flavor and two, they tasted like the potatoes they boiled were water logged and then they blended them up so much it was like watered down baby food again with no salt. My husbands ribs he said were ok, not smoked but his sliced potatoes were raw. Told waitress about those cause she asked to take his plate and so he mentioned it. She said other people have been saying that but Chef says that’s how he makes them. Seems funny that he doesn’t pay attention to comments about his food. He should try eating it. I guess we won’t come here again for quite sometime. Too much money for bad food. Other places to eat that are better.

Midori Express – Menu with Prices – 2421 Randleman Rd, Greensboro

I was going to this place for years despite how cold and rude the lady at the register is I always order a lot of food basically I spend a lot of money at that place yesterday I ordered a lot of food but when I got home I didn’t see my chicken wings so I called back to let the guy know that they forgot my chicken wings I get up to the store and the guy starts showing me on camera that he gave me the chicken wings and starts questioning me as if I’m lying saying we got cameras and that months ago I try to short change them for three dollars now this guy doesn’t even work there on a daily basis so I tell him the lady took my money and never gave me back the change why lie about receiving change for a transition that isnt even breaking my pocket anyways I get into an argument with the guy and basically let him know that I’m retired military and everybody black isnt trying to steal this place is racist they have poor customer service I later found the chicken wings and bought them back to the store he packed everything in one small bag so it was an honest mistake but the entire time they felt that I was a dishonest customer from the start why tell me to come back up to your store to get the wings but try to accuse me my stealing when I come there so much the lady at the register practically knows what my order is black people dont give your money to these racist people.

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1725 E Douglas Ave suite 105, Wichita

I am typically not a big soup person, but once I was convinced to check this place out I was sold! This place is great! You won’t regret trying it and once you do you will just want to return on other days for their other soup specials. They are pretty quick at serving as long as there are places to sit. There have been times when I have eaten here I took it to go because of how packed it gets. On Monday you can order the amazing chicken noodle soup, and get the large! Who cares if you have leftovers, so worth it. Take it home and enjoy it again. They also have some pretty good salad and sandwiches that are severed every day, but really you should only come here for their soup. Every once in a while they also have special bierocks but you gotta follow their Facebook to know when this happens. A few people at work have raved about them but I have not been able to enjoy them. The place has a great location and great staff ready to serve you. You really need to check this place out. It is the only soup kitchen I have been and will come back.

Chesapeake’s Seafood Restaurant & Raw Bar – Menu with Prices – 9630 Parkside Dr, Knoxville

I want to give Chesapeakes a 3.5 The West Knox location is a beautiful massive facility. The staff is awesome. The service was fantastic! All of the above mentioned things should come 2nd fiddle to the food, that is why I came here. The food is not inexpensive and I expect to get what I pay for. Started of with drinks, well worth the $$ not over priced but definitely poured right! We skipped the app but I did add a salad wedge which was one of the best I’ve had, the avocado ranch is amazing! The entrees is where it seemed to fall apart for me. Coming from the industry, I always try to justify why the food was one way or another. However I could not find any reason tonight, maybe it was a fluke, maybe they were too busy, new chef etc. I don’t know, what I do know is I ordered the filet added a lobster tail with a side of onion rings to the tune of $53 the steak was of quality but it came well done (asked for medium) it was under seasoned and cold. The lobster was also over cooked and on the small side. The onion rings were the best thing on my plate. My wife ordered the red snapper, it too was cold and didnt taste fresh (I know we dont live near the water in which it was derived) it seemed like it was frozen or not cut right but also tasted old. In the past the quality has matched the cost. Tonight was very disappointing trip to Chesapeakes, so much so I dont think I will be back. If the quality doesnt match the cost it doesn’t make sense. I can go to out back and get a perfect filet and lobster for $24. Sorry guys, tonight you missed the boat in too many ways.

Halal Homestyle Chili & Bourbon Chicken – Menu with Prices – 131 N Ludlow St, Dayton

This places had two main dishes, Bourbon Chicken and Chili. First there are other items on the menu such as Hamburgers, but the chicken and chili are what they are known for. The place is in the basement and looks like an abandoned dance hall. Very low ambience. They have 3 types of chicken, bourbon and grilled are the two I remember. The bourbon is like a teriyaki, you get to order with one or two sides that include red bean, spicy rice, cajun rice as well as others. If you get 2 sides, you get a free soda. 2 items and chicken run around $7. You get a complete take away container that is packed with food. Very filling. The chicken was pretty good but the fries was too salty. I did not order the chili but I imagine you would get a lot two. Your order chili like you do at skyline chili (another local chili place chain). You can get chili and spagetti with onions and cheese. (4 way) for $6 for a large. They also have coney dogs as well. I would come back to this place for value and bangs for the bucks.
