I’m being generous because this is the first review. There is a conference at the Hyatt with 1500+ attendees and the conference includes no food. We are using meeting rooms on 1st, 2nd, 3rd floors and moving between these floors all day from 8a to 615pm. This is a captive audience and the conference runs from Fri-Mon with half or more of us also meeting Thurs. that is 5 days, 2 meals per day, 1500 people. Why would you NOT refill your buffet pans?!?? Do you know how much business you lost? I asked 2 different workers (I think they are the owners) if food was coming. They told me to use the salad bar. I don’t want salad. I want the hot buffet. Literally over half the trays were completely empty. Half of the remaining ones with food were nearly empty so these 2 kept pushing the plateful If food in these trays into a tiny pile in the middle of the tray. We don’t want a tiny mound of cabbage and gravy when it is marked Mongolian beef!!! Anyway, I waited 15 min while they kept topping off the cheap stuff like lettuce. I had already scooped brown rice into my container but there was nothing to eat with it. I finally took one of the 3 spring rolls remaining and one dried out fried dumpling, one piece of chicken teriyaki. That cost me $9+ and most of the weight was rice that I couldn’t eat. Really isn’t 3 stars but it’s a small business and I want them to realize they are not doing themselves any favors by not putting food out for us to buy. Lots of people looked at the empty trays and walked across to Needs. I should have done the same.

Taquizas Los Chuchys – Menu with Prices – 713 Broadway Ste I, Chula Vista

This has been the worst culinary experience I have ever come across. We ordered catering for 30 people and received what any ordinary person would consider to feed 15 people, maximum. When Maria, the manager delivered the food, she asked for the remaining payment and to my surprise, left without giving us the rest of the order. When I checked the three small half sheet (maybe 12×8) aluminum trays filled with meat, they were only filled to 2/3rds of the way. We also had 1) a shallow half sheet tray of rice and 1) shallow half sheet tray of horrible looking beans that looked liked they came out of a can, so a total of 5 small aluminum trays with tortillas and barely any taco toppings. I called the business and asked for the manger, they said it was Maria, the woman that rudely dropped off the food. Maria called me and I told her I think there was a mistake and we needed the rest of the order. She insisted it was the regular order for 30 people and said she personally saw the trays so the order was not mistaken. My family from out of town were coming over for my uncleâ??s surprise 65th birthday and I had food for 15 people. I begged her to come and see for herself that those three small partially filled trays were not enough food. I asked if she was not going to bring me the rest of the order to feed 30 people, then to come back, pick up the food, and return my money. She said yes, with an attitude and no help when I asked for the information of the owner or another manager. I was astonished at her horrible customer service and horrible perception of food portions. I took my money to @Carnval and bought food for 35 people to eat two times, two days in a row, with food still left over, and it cost me less than what they charged me. I will never order or give business to Chuchis because of the lack of consideration and customer service. I will Never order their catering for big reunions because they will disappoint. Maria, you are rude and very unprofessional.

Spice & Spirits – Menu with Prices – 1 N New Warrington Rd, Pensacola

I would really like to rate these folks higher – but … been here twice for lunch buffet … very nice staff – they simply aren’t closing the business case. One time a few minutes before 1 pm and another time 20 minutes after noon. Middle of the week both times. While the food is pretty OK and tasty, there seems to be a problem with having food at the buffet – actually IN THE HEATING TRAYS. I’m sure most folks have been places where this happened so you know the angst it causes to be forced to find someone and say – “hey, could you bring out some food?” In this case, staff would go over and carefully move what was in the trays over to one end, but not put any more food in. I’m talking anything with meat in it being devoid of meat. They also have a bit of a timeline problem – from order to nan was probably 15 minutes – it was fresh and good, but, again … this simply won’t endear people to want to return. My assessment is they have so little traffic, it seems painful for them to put the food out – however, this is simply a business issue – and almost circular argument. They need to be SO GOOD they will get more traffic. I hope they make it – but, not having a great feeling about their longevity.

Taco Del Mar Menu with Prices 2258 E Gowen Rd, Boise

Stopped for lunch two days ago. What a mistake. Ordered a taco/enchilada platter. I noticed the rice container was nearly empty and the rice on the bottom looked burned. I said something to the young guy preparing my plate. He said “oh, we have more rice” as he scraped the bottom of the pan to put a spoonful on my plate. I also noticed the pinto bean container was nearly empty and the remaining beans looked burned. I opted for the refried beans. As he continued making my plate, the taco looked just like the enchilada. I asked the young guy (who was sleeping his way through the preparation) what the difference in a taco and enchilada was. “Oh, I put red sauce on it”. Never mind I said and just took the plate as is. My first bite of rice crunched on my teeth. I thought of going back and asking for fresh rice, but during the plate preparation, the owner/manager stood behind the young guy rolling her eyes as she overheard my concerns. I figured it was my loss. I noticed the owner weighing out the chips for anyone ordering chips and salsa. A side of rice/beans is the same price as a small bag of chips. Who weighs chips (which are an inexpensive side)? The final straw is when I went to the drink machine for a refill. The young guy and female owner were standing/walking on a wet dirty floor as they continued serving customers. Something was either leaking or had spilled and neither stopped to clean it up. I about chucked up my rock hard rice. Needless to say, I’ll never be back. Lousy food, high prices, dirty environment. Ada County Health Department needs to pay them a visit.

Homestyle Hawaiian – Oceanside – Menu with Prices – 1950 Oceanside Blvd R, Oceanside

This review is for this location specifically. I have been to the other three homestyle Hawaiians in San Diego. I used to live down the street from the one in tierrasanta. All 3 locations – amazing. I always get the same thing. Kalbi ribs. Sometimes if I’m feeling loco I’ll do a combo of the kalbi ribs and lava chicken. Extra Mac salad. The same. The kalbi ribs are always so tender and flavorful. Mac salad is delish. Lava chicken is bomb. And under the meat is always some cabbage with some kind of sauce. All locations in San Diego are comparable. As they should be since they’re associated with each other which brings me to this review for this homestyle Hawaiian in Oceanside. Someone needs to come here for some quality control. I ordered as I mentioned before, the same thing. Today I was feeling wild and went for the lava chicken and kalbi rib combo. Extra scoop of Mac salad. Also, let me say – this is my second time coming here. The first time, I had the same complaint but I thought maybe they had an off day. Anyways, I get the kalbi rib and lava chicken combo and extra scoop of Mac. They are so skimpy – SO skimpy on their scoops. The container is literally half empty. 2$ for a half empty container of Mac? And I’m confused why potatoes are in there? I know the cost of making mac is prettyyyyyyy cheap. So I’m confused why they give you a tinyy amount yet still charge 2$ like the other locations who are more generous with their sides. Moving on. My biggest gripe, although not my last. Their kalbi ribs are SO tough. So chewy. So much gristle. It’s not the same quality of meat as the other locations in San Diego. They are buying MUCH lower quality kalbi ribs yet still charging the SAME price. Other gripes – they don’t have the cabbage under the meat. They did have this extremely thick syrupy sauce under that was incredibly salty. These are the same issues I had the first time I ate here. After being to all homestyle Hawaiian locations, the one in Oceanside is by far the lowest quality. It’s extremely disappointing because I love the food and when I moved to Carlsbad and realized there was a homestyle kind of close – I was so excited. I’ll be back to homestyle Hawaiian but just not this location.

Asian Flavor – Menu with Prices – 4839 TN-58, Chattanooga

The wife and I were traveling home from visiting the Northern Georgia mountains. We passed by and said let’s give it a try. We were there for lunch and tried the buffet. There’s a good selection but too much. Everything was very good. I had the Kung Pao chicken with noodles and rice. The wife had the General Taos chicken with rice and noodles, egg rolls and crab rangoon. Everything was hot and tasted great. You need to ask for the chili oil. It was also fresh. The owners, I think, were very much into service. Our drink glasses never got a chance to even get half empty plus as soon as your plate was finished, it was picked up and taken away. They also did great at anticipating if you might need something such as more napkins. As we sat there eating, the food at the buffet was constantly getting replaced which kept it hot and ready to eat. If you don’t want the buffet, they also have lunch specials that can be ordered. There was quite a list for those specials. We also noticed they were very busy with call in orders. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars, we lived in Southern California and have been to some fantastic Chinese restaurants. We were quite impressed with Asian Flavor. We will be back when we’re in the neighborhood again.

Louisiana Purchase Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 8853 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie

I’ve probably visited this place a dozen times and have always forgotten to complete a review. Whelp! Here it is: the food is delicious, there! They buffet offerings change daily but my favorites are the smothered cabbage, chicken and sausage gumbo, bell pepper rice, fried chicken, sweet buttery corn bread and étouffée. The carrot soufflé is good but too sweet for me. I only come on my cheat days, when my stomach is on E (empty). They also serve banana and bread pudding of which I don’t partake. I’m picky with those two desserts. There’s a salad bar but I rarely ever get a salad….sometimes the optics dissuades me. It seems to be a touristy spot as well but overall, the atmosphere is warm, friendly and welcoming. The servers are terrific as well, never had a bad experience.

Tibet Kitchen Santa Fe – Menu with Prices – 3003 S St Francis Dr, Santa Fe

“It’s all you can eat buffet, not all you can waste” – There’s no waste here. 11 selections, including lentil soup add up to a five-star dining experience at Tibet kitchen. With locations in Utah, manager GT in Santa Fe serves up Tibetan food for 10.99 a plate. Now, our family is not from Tibet so we will take him at his word. But the from scratch potstickers, tofu, fresh salad, rice pudding, vegetables and rice are delicious. Total buffet for 2: $24. Dinner starting around 3:30 off menu (no buffet). First drink refill free. High chairs. No MSG. Good food means good value. Recommended.

River Cree Resort & Casino – Menu with Prices – 300 E Lapotac Blvd, Edmonton

So I am making a review for the buffet at the river cree casino, first time ever going was yesterday..so I had my Hope’s set a bit high ..my fault..I was expecting a way better buffet since I have heard how amazing this place was…the people I must have been talking to must have been drunk because from the food to service to how clean the restaurant was I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody just the buffet.. I cant talk about the rest of the place, the service was horrible, to get a refill it must come out of the waitresses tips, to get a dirty plate removed is almost impossible, yet they look at you from there little table acting like they are watching out for you when they are not!, and the host guy is super awkward and so is the manager I am guessing, Best buffet in Edmonton is buffet royal. Again if you want a buffet you have the whole city of Edmonton to pick from avoid this place so you wont be disappointed!

Roma Palace Banquet Hall – Menu with Prices – 4550 W Buckingham Rd Suite D, Garland

I used to come here when it was in the banquet hall next door but it has now moved inside the Subzi Mandi grocery store (back left). It’s slightly cheaper than it used to be ($7 now), but with the change has come cheap styrofoam trays, cups, and plasticware. You have to get your own water and dispose of your used trays. I would say the size of the buffet has decreased by 30% as well, but most the staple items remain and the food tastes about the same. It’s not best Indian food out there but it’s still way better than my company’s cafeteria. I will say the kheer (rice pudding) here is the best I’ve had at *any* Indian restaurant – very milky with the perfect low level of sweetness and refreshingly cold. Despite the downgraded experience and food variety, I’m still keeping this place in my rotation for a cheap workday lunch. Cons: The parking lot is constantly littered with stray shopping carts. I’m afraid to park here for fear of dings.

Kaia Bowls – Acai Bowls, Pitaya Bowls, Poke Bowls – Menu with Prices – 483 Mandalay Ave Suite 107, Clearwater

First Impression Post! I am always in favor of trying new things, especially when it comes to our local Beach businesses. Support the little guys, people! … Now that I’ve stepped off my soapbox, let’s get down to business. I’ve only ordered the Poké Bowls so far, so if you’re a sushi fan then keep on reading. Once I’ve tasted their other bowls, this review will be updated. SERVICE: 5* The girls behind the counter are super nice and informative, giving me detailed information about the different bowls they have and how you can order. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owners – both of whom are incredibly sincere, have a good head on their shoulders, and just want to help people make sounder nutrition decisions. QUALITY: 5* If you’re looking to get away from your typical beach/bar/fried/grilled dishes, this is your place. Brighten up your taste palette with fresh ingredients that you can watch the girls make right in front of you. – Poke Bowls: apikai fresh salmon bowl and the kilauea shrimp bowl, and it was enough to last for two meals! I usually ask for half rice, half greens to portion out my carb intake. There is also a build-your-own version in case you don’t want certain ingredients in your meal. – Acai Bowls: Hono lulu if you’re feeling like sweets and chocolate without all the guilt. VALUE: 5* With tip, I’ve left the restaurant at about $15.00 per meal. If you manage to contain yourself and save the rest for another meal, you’re looking at $7.50 per meal. Although it may seem pricey, you’re looking at beach prices here. But if you want to leave with a happy, pleasantly full belly without regret, I think it’s worth it. CLEANLINESS: 5* There are never any unpleasant odors, always fresh and appealing scents! Floors and surfaces are always clean, and their working station remains tidy as well. I mean, they make your meal right before your eyes so it’s a great way to determine cleanliness. I hope this modern little quick casual earns its permanent place on the beach!

Bamiyan Kabob – Menu with Prices – 4150 Lafayette Rd Suite H, Indianapolis

I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to dining on food that originates anywhere between the Pacific Rim and the Mediterranean, so if you are looking for tips on what to order, read Mike F’s excellent review. If you are a newbie like me and want to know some of the basics, then stick around. I’ll try my best! First know that Lafayette Road is a divided highway north of 38th, so to get to this place is easy from the north, but a bit more challenging from the south. I suggest heading north on Lafayette Road to Office Plaza Blvd (turn left) and then left again into the strip mall from there. A frontage road will wind around to the parking lot for Bamiyan Kabob. Once inside, you can seat yourself. The waiter was soft spoken and I felt like I had to take charge of figuring out what to do by asking a lot of questions even after letting him know it was my first visit. I also decided to go with the buffet (which I normally avoid) since it would be the best way to experience a bunch of flavors without committing to a single item. It was early in the lunch hour, so I felt the food would still be fresh. (Lunch buffet was about $13 pre tax and tip, but I was able to eat a sample of everything requiring 2 plates and a bowl. You won’t go hungry if you like the food at all.) I let him know I was going to eat from the buffet and wanted a water which showed up at my table along with a basket of naan (flatbread that was quartered and is used to assist eating some of the saucy items in the buffet.) Comparing the photos on Mike’s review along with the items I found listed let me know that they have a lot of options here and so you just have to go and see what’s available each day. I grabbed a plate and utensils and decided to work my way down the buffet (I took pictures of the food and names above the trays to help me identify them.) I got about half way through the buffet when my plate was filled, even with smaller portions. There is a LOT of food here! I noticed that some of the food was quite familiar, while others were completely unique to me. Some had potatoes, or beans, or peas with chicken or rice. Others were just sauces or purees that were a bit harder to identify. What I will say is that everything had a lot of flavor. They aren’t afraid of using spices here and a wide variety of them. What I really liked was that I didn’t find anything that was overwhelming with a singular spice; Nicely balanced dishes that I was able to enjoy, sometimes by tearing off pieces of the naan to mop up the plate. I won’t make recommendations other than to suggest just trying them for yourself. I went back and got a second plate from the stack and nearly filled it too. My first plate and silverware were removed while I was at the buffet, so be sure to grab more napkins and utensils while up there. My second plate had more of the meaty selections. The “fried chicken” item had good flavor, but did get a bit dry. I also wasn’t a fan of the Goat Kata-Kat (Liver). I could tell it was liver even without reading the sign since it had that dry texture that liver can get unless prepared by some master chef. I wouldn’t try that one again. Of special note is the rice. They have three kinds here and if you settle for just the plain rice, you will be missing out. Both the Afghani Pulao and the Sindhi Biryani (both with chicken) were delightful and looked so colorful that the plate just looked more appetizing. I also tried small samples of two unidentified desserts that were on a side buffet. When finished, I wasn’t sure what to do, but just walked up to the counter and the waiter rang it up promptly. This is probably my most enjoyed buffet that I’ve been to. I was surprised by how many items I liked. If you want to dive into experiencing a new cuisine, give this place a try. I was able to get in and out quickly, so don’t let time be a constraint on checking in. Review #2627

Life Center – Menu with Prices – 1717 S Union Ave, Tacoma

I attended the Exponential Conference this week, and observed some deeply appalling behavior from a pastor at this church. The man said his name was Tony and it appeared as if he was sent as a tool to subvert the conference and create division among the churches. I heard him speaking loudly and inappropriately about race and he had many unfortunate things (that I refuse to repeat) to say about white people. I watched him methodically approach every person of color he could find and try to convince them to leave the conference because it was being hosted by a church that he felt was too white. As a fellow man of color, I am sickened by this display of racism, and it makes me truly wonder what is being taught at Life Center. It certainly didn’t sound like the word of God to me. God sees our hearts and not our colors, and a pastor condemning fellow believers because of the color of their skin is reprehensible. The goal of the conference was to bring us all together to maintain one unified voice and to mobilize God’s people in God’s way. What I observed was certainly not God’s way.
