If this was just a bar, it would probably get 3 stars. Drinks aren’t particularly reasonable, layout of the building is kinda fuckin weird with a hell of a lot of wasted space it seems… HOWEVER… Every Friday night, they have different comedians come through and as far as I know, it’s the ONLY place in Fresno to regularly do so and that goes a long way with me. Hell, I used to go to Thai Palms back in the day, with their crappy food and bougie crowd to catch comedy shows- so I’m glad somewhere else is finally bringing them back. Like one of my new favorite comedians put it, the place looks like an old, haunted hotel and you can almost feel the ghosts floating around jerking off on top of you (credit to Sam Tripoli for that one, please don’t sue me.) Bartenders are pretty cool, and there was a tv showing the Giants/Dodgers game at the bar while I got there for the most recent show I went to, so I watched some of the game before it started. Talent level of the comedians kinda varies. The first show I saw had great opening acts, one even upstaged the headliner as far as I was concerned. Tonight’s headliner though was fucking amazing, and the headliners were pretty mediocre I felt- I think they were local talent. The host is always the same guy, Chris Cruz I think is his name. He repeats most of his same jokes, which kinda had me worried we’d be getting the same opening acts- but luckily nah, different group each time. Frank’s Place has a cool partnership with A1 Night Stand Taco Truck. The truck is parked right out front all night for the shows, and they have menus on every table (which have table numbers) so you can call in or text your order and they’ll bring it right there to your table. I really hope Fresno supports this place and what they’re trying to do. We don’t have any comedy clubs, so I hope they keep this up every Friday to a good-sized crowd like they have been.

Hawaii Bar 989 – Menu with Prices – 989 Dovercourt Rd, Toronto

Not bad. It’s definitely a dive bar: puffed plastic and metal chairs straight from a Chinese restaurant in 1992, rickety pressboard tables, crazy crap all over the walls… Service was friendly enough, but the bartender didn’t know any bourbon cocktails, which I was craving. I mean, hey, neither did I, but I’m not a bartender anymore and I used to keep a big book of cocktails behind the bar for these situations. Yes, I realize I was being the worst customer ever with my “uhmm I want something with bourbon in it… but I don’t know what…” I ended up ordering a bourbon with ginger ale and lemon slice (meh) while the Hubster had a beer, and then SOMETHING HAPPENED. A man stepped up to a microphone at the back of the place and said “hey everyone, welcome to our comedy night!” The Hubster and I exchanged barely concealed horrified looks, as did the table of two guys beside us. Turns out, the four of us were going to be the only audience members on their biweekly amateur stand up comedy night, and we were all in the front row. Clearly, none of us saw the sandwich board sign outside. The other comedians were huddled near the bar, reading over their notes on their phones. If you’ve never been to an amateur comedy night before, it can be pretty uncomfortable. The comedians are about 5 feet away, nervous, and will often look right in your face for support, and since I’m not one to heap out fake praise, they didn’t get much from me. Which made me feel bad. I’m not going to comment on the quality of the comedians. They got better as the night went on… a combination of pounding back drinks and the fact that they generally got more experienced and better as the night went on. The show was maybe an hour and a half long, and once that was over, the comedians quickly left the bar en masse. We breathed a sigh of relief, and suddenly found ourselves with hours and hours of stuff to talk about (thank god they left, and didn’t have to hear all the blistering comments from a TV producer and a marketing writer). It ended up being a really cool night after all and definitely a fun memory. We likely won’t make an effort to check out the comedy night again, but we might visit the bar for drinks. If anything, because it is literally a 5 minute bus ride from our door.

The Rec Room (Glow Zone) – Menu with Prices – 7227 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach

If I could give 0 stars I would!!! Terrible place and customer service!!! Came here on a Saturday night for a comedy show with three others. We got there early, around 9:15 for the comedy show that started at 10. It’s a pretty large place and looks like fun for the family with bowling, miniature golf, arcade games, bumper cars, etc. As you walk in, they were bumpin music like you’re in a club, which I thought was pretty cool (as it was later at night for the more adult crowd). It reminds me of a knockoff Dave and Busters. After we walked around a bit, we went back to the comedy club area and they seated the four of us at a tiny table squished in. We looked around and figured it wasn’t going to be busy, so we added another table to seat four of us more comfortably. A few minutes later one of the guys who works there was telling us we couldn’t move the table because it affects the “busing of the tables.” We told him, there’s four of us squeezing in at this tiny table, if we order food, how are we supposed to fit it all on the table with drinks. He argued with us and we just said fine and all squeezed around a tiny-ass table (that was strike #1!). (And we were right, the place didn’t get crowded and we could have used the 2 tables to be seated more comfortably). Then, we proceeded to forget about it and to try and have a good time. The waiter came and took our drink and food order. We waited and waited and finally the drinks came out followed by the artichoke dip we ordered (which was all cheese, no artichoke, and the dip was tiny in comparison to all the surrounding chips; the pic on this yelp page looks waaaaaaay better than what we actually received). The other couple that was with us had been here a few times and the last time they were here, they ordered the flatbread pizza and it was cold. This time, they ordered it again and it was cold again, the cheese wasn’t melted at all (that’s strike #2)! The show started a little after 10 and started off with a hilarious comedian. After him it went downhill, the next comedians kept yelling at this “rowdy” group in the front, which all they were trying to do was to keep the show going and participate. The owner kept yelling at them, at first it seemed like it was part of his “comedy,” but it later progressed to just continually berating them (making the crowd feel awkward) and finally telling them to leave. This is unprofessional, if you’re a “real comedian,” you need to know how to work with the crowd. That was strike #3! Thankfully, after all that, the last comedian was hilarious and ended the night on a good note. Overall, the four of us will NOT come back here, unless they can fix their act. Another negative was that they force you to get 2 drinks per person and the food/drinks were not cheap!!! I HATE places that force you to get drinks. They need to advertise better and get more customers, so they don’t have to make their money this way.

Klondike Sunset Casino – Menu with Prices – 444 W Sunset Rd, Henderson

Last evening 2/16/2019 my girlfriend and I went to have dinner and enjoy the comedy show Bonkerz. First let me state the comedy show was FANTASTIC. The headliner James “BIGFOOT” Scott was absolutely hilarious, the openers were also very entertaining. THEY GET 5 STARS ! The venue in the Klondike Casino is their restaurant Sarah’s Kitchen. I signed in for the comedy venue, and was advised to sit anywhere. I must have picked the invisible table…….then I realized there were many, many invisible tables. Where I sat was only placemats. I sat for over 45 minutes without anyone asking if I wanted a beverage. Clients noticed that I patiently sat for over almost an hour………No bus person, waiter..NO ONE even as much stopped at the table. Oh by the way they no longer offer club members the Prime Rib Special, it was $5.55 for club card holders, it is now $12.99. That being said after an hour my girlfriend ordered a salad that arrived with NO DRESSING. That fiasco required asking 3 employees for dressing. My burger was undercooked….I ate it because it had taken 40 minutes for the burger and salad to arrive, I was HUNGRY, and may never see my food again. Needless to say, the service was DEPLORABLE, AWFUL, TOTALLY INVISIBLE. Management should have pulled someone over from the bar wait staff. The comedy venue was totally packed. I have made a firm decision to never eat at that property EVER AGAIN. I will attend the BONKERZ comedy venue.

Fort Wayne Comedy Club – Menu with Prices – 2104 S Calhoun St, Fort Wayne

Wow, this place is a really a hidden gem in Fort Wayne. You probably drive by and not know that inside the building is a small comedy venue. They have no sign on the front, and only a door that says “Entrance” on the back, where you park. Drink prices are okay; what you’d expect for a club. They have food, but my wife and I didn’t eat. The food I saw coming out to guests looked good, though. The night we were there they had an emcee, a guest comic, a feature, and the headliner, which was Bob Zany, who is hysterically funny. The room is just big enough to fit 80-90 people, but not feel like you’re sitting on top of each other. The accoustics are nice, not distorted. There is no drink minimum, and no pressure to buy drinks. You settle your tab before the headliner is done, which is nice. It allows the process of getting a drink to be quick and less distracting than paying as you order. It was a great piece to my wife and I’s date night. We will keep watching their Facebook page to make sure we don’t miss any great comics that come to the Fort.

Famiglia Bistro – Menu with Prices – 2501 McHenry Ave, Modesto

This review is for the backroom event venue services: Comedy Night in particular. The wait service was/is absolutely unacceptable. Our table of 10 was given no attention and when we did, it was with a loud, full blown attitude DURING the show, distracting other attendees. We also observed other tables expressing obvious disappointment and disatifaction with our same waitress. The entire night would have been ruined if it wasn’t for the actual comedy being good. It was hard to ignore the terrible service. Can’t speak about all the staff but standards are standards. The food was extremely delayed and subpar upon delivery. The bruschetta was a straight joke. The kitchen probably needs a pep talk after a review of Famiglia standards. Nobody received waters and when some did, no refill, no one received or was asked about their alcoholic drinks refills either. The obligatory group gratuity and service fees were another slap in the face given the lack of customer service provided. I have frequented the restaurant and it has always been a great experience. It is the saddest memory to walk away with when you expect the same high level at a show night and even bring more friends out, only to have everyone walk away completely disgusted. I can’t imagine willingly spending more money here during show nights. Hope it improves. I won’t be ordering a thing at the next show. We will remind everyone to eat & drink elsewhere prior to or save their hard earned dollars for after the shows.

Stir Cocktail Lounge – Menu with Prices – 112 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee

I wish Stir was closer to my neighborhood because it is a solid drinking establishment with friendly staff and decent specials. I stopped in recently before a show at the Riverside and was pleasantly surprised. There were solid Tuesday night specials for Crown Royal and Captain Morgan mixers, and the crowd seemed friendly and subdued — a lot of show-goers, I would guess. It’s not a sports bar per se but there were two televisions that alternated between the World Series game and opening night pro hoops. A nice-looking pool table near the entrance provides for distraction if you don’t want to (or can’t) sit at the bar. The bartender who served us (Jerome) was fantastic. Great sense of humor and excellent service; he even taught us non-native Wisconsinites how to play bar dice! Unfortunately I do not live in the area of Stir, but it would be a go-to point for me if that were the case. Stir is now on my extremely short list of solid downtown watering holes.

Call The Office – Menu with Prices – 216 York St, London

Call the Office – Bar & Nightclub has been a staple in the heart of Downtown London for many, many years. Awesome bands have graced the stage of this amazing music venue. In the warmer months the patio is open, in which the bar opens up unto. Therefore there’s no need to fight the crowds to get your drinks and rounds as the patio is not all to crowded. Most patrons want to be inside the actual venue as some bands that have made it fairly big, be it only on the national stage, as well as some who have made it unto the international stage as well do attend shows here and it’s a great way to mingle with these VIPSp as well as the band members of the band who are the Star VIPS do comedown quite often to see the size of the crowd, sign autographs, as well as to interact with their fans who may have had to travel to come and see them here at this venue. It holds a nice sized crowed and a decent sized mosh pit can get going inside as well. The band has a very tight stage to squeeze theirselves along with all their equipment into this space to play. This means that the venue has literally bad seats in the house. Of course it is standing room only. I think everyone in their youth has been here once, possibly a few times. It draws the small acts that can not pack a large 1000 crowd venue but can pack a 250-500 persons to come and see them play. Call the Office can probably hold a legal crowd of around 400 ticket holders. Although once the opener has been on the stage and the main act has taken the stage, it usually only takes 4 songs or so for the doorman to leave their posts and by doing so this allows more persons to just walk in off the street. This can really get a nice crowd swarming, encouraging the band to rock out mad. Amazing staff, bartenders, doormen, and a promotional team that can get acts to squeeze a show in on a night where they may have originally been not scheduled to play a show. Eh, it makes money for all. The band takes away some nice funds, plus The Office takes its share. Clean venue as well. Simply amazing, as it is still providing memories to the youth of our city, many years after it has opened its doors … well still contributing to the older genres who keep coming back to see bands that may still be touring every now and then, along with new bands that they may have never heard of and these older patrons are just looking for that little bit of nostalgia, that feeling that will come flooding back while listening to a band that they may have seen here in their youthful days, as well as just being in such a awesome place that has welcomed some of the best acts of our days, be them from the time it opened to these times that are upon us … ‘Smash’ that thumbs up button, if you did find my infomation helpful in anyway.

Kelly’s Pub – Menu with Prices – 10156 104 St NW, Edmonton

Stopped in here last night before the hockey game. Place was jam packed with Oiler fans. All servers were on spot with great service. Our server, Mandy recommended the two topping pizza described as dope. Not sure what she meant by dope, but it was fresh and tasty. Draught on tap was cold and refreshing, TV’s on every wall showing every game from hockey, baseball and basket ball. Older crowd seemed like, but it was a nice little joint close to Rogers Place. The table beside us ordered some kinda yorkies, the aroma sent me on a tizzy to England, roast beef, gravy and horseradish wafted to my table. Oh I wanted to grab a fork and join them. Thank you Kelly Pub I will return for those yorkies.

Loony Bin Comedy Club – Menu with Prices – 215 St Francis, Wichita

I am so disappointed about how I was treated and will never be returning. The night started off fun and the comedians were great. At the end of the night, our server decided she could treat us however she wanted (I’m assuming because gratuity was already added to our checks — she didn’t care about being nice anymore). I was with a group of 8 people, three couples and two others. Our server did not keep track of what we order throughout the night, and thought it was acceptable to simply split the bill in three. When we received our checks, there was about 10 minutes of the show left, so we asked her if we could wait until the end to figure them out and make them right. For some reason, this really made our server mad. Her whole attitude with us changed. At the end of the show, she brought security over with her and asked us, “So how do you want to do this then?” Correctly… I want to do it correctly. After her rudely going through every item we ordered and somewhat fixing our bills, we paid and decided it was time to leave. I had already left the performance area and was finishing a drink out front when she come up to me and held a receipt in my face. She then said she was missing a signed receipt and pointed at me telling me she was missing mine. I paid with cash, so no I did not have a signed credit card receipt. This behavior by a server is unacceptable when people are paying to be somewhere. The comedians were great, but I will never be returning if this is how people are allowed to be treated.

PNC Pavilion – Menu with Prices – 6295 Kellogg Ave, Cincinnati

Just saw Steve Martin, Martin Short and the Steep Canyon Rangers. You know PNC and Riverbend are big venues and yet we’ve found them to be intimate too. This was our first PNC Pavilion event and it was great. Steve and Martin did a very funny show. There’s a part in the show where they sat in two easy chairs and chatted with each other and us. It was so cool. The comedy was first rate and we could have listened to the superb Bluegrass music from Steep Canyon Rangers for lots longer. A great evening at a great venue! True showmen and comedic and musical stars! Would have been five stars but the traffic was terrible and the restrooms were just nasty – even before the crowd was there. Breathtaking….. but not in a good way. Just hose the place down can ya? Gosh!

Murder Mystery Dinner Train – Menu with Prices – 2805 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers

My partner and I had a great time! Atmosphere: the train was very clean with comfortable chairs seating 4 to a table. My partner and I sat across from another couple and we had a blast the entire time. If you’re group is larger than 4 people you can let them know at the time of booking that you want to sit across from each other and they will sit you all together in one area. The train was decently decorated and matched with our shows theme. They also take you to a few spots with beautiful views once you get past the residential areas. Show: The acting was comedic, the actors committed to their characters and interacted with the audience on the train. It was not a broadway show, but it was very entertaining and funny. They also change themes every few months so the acts are fresh and you’re likely to see a different show on your next visit. Food: Amazing! The meal starts off with cheese and fruits for the table to share, then bread, salad or fruit cup, soup, the main dish, and carrot cake to finish. I wasn’t expecting the food to be so great but it was. I had the chicken and it was amazing! Service: Prompt and friendly

Lucky You Lounge – Menu with Prices – 1801 W Sunset Blvd, Spokane

Amazing food. Fun cocktails. Great live music. The best kind of vibe. What more do you need? Food: weekly fresh sheet, lots of vegan and gluten free options. My personal favorites are the fries (yum) and the pulled pork sandwich (yum yum). Full disclosure a few of the entrees are a little pricy, but also a LOT delicious. Drinks: fun signature drink menu, plus an extensive gin list in the basement. PS their house infused spicy marg is amaze. Music: two stages (downstairs shows are typically free) with all the local legends plus cool touring acts. Vibe: hip, spacious, dim, with colorful artwork and a bit of a retro feel. Weekend nights the basement has dancing and great energy, and most of the time the upstairs is chill enough for a nice, conversational dinner with your pals. My biggest tip for properly enjoying LYL is being flexible on what your night will look like (because you can’t go wrong… but maybe it won’t be exactly what you anticipated). Maybe you’ll show up and there’s a ticketed show upstairs. No worries–go hang in the (always free) basement. Maybe you go out on a Tuesday and the basement bar is closed, meaning you won’t get to try that cool gin they only stock downstairs. Whatever! Get any of their other signature cocktails because they are so so good. OR check their calendar and do your research before you go, you dummy.
