As a newcomer to Bend, we spent our first weeks house hunting and hunting for the best coffee to fuel our moving process! We have tried the chains and the smaller “mom and pops” in search of the best iced latte. We used Yelp and saw that Flying Frog was right in our neck of the woods but it only showed one review and it was a negative one. I’m glad we gave Flying Frog a chance despite it – it is now a daily routine for us to stop in, chat with Jennifer (the owner) and get 2 quad shot iced lattes. Maybe one day I’ll try the other drinks on her menu but for now, I’m sticking with what I love ? I’m disappointed to see that Yelp has chosen to hide so many good reviews and keep the highly negative one to represent this coffee shop! Check out the other reviews that Yelp has hidden down at the bottom and go visit Flying Frog! (EDIT: Looks like the negative review has given them another chance and updated their review today to a 5-star rating. So happy to see this coffee shop showing at the high rating it deserves)

Halo Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 3024 Hurontario St, Mississauga

I hate doing this. As someone who works in “specialty coffee,” I don’t like rating other shops – especially negatively. I’m always on the look out for new specialty coffee shops because coffee is always a learning experience and an adventure. And I believe in supporting independent “specialty coffee” shops. I want to be at shops that not only pulls amazing espresso shots, but that the baristas show passion in their coffee. I was really excited to visit, having seen it on Instagram. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in Halo – a place that brands itself as a “specialty coffee” shop on Instagram. I have now been there twice, because I thought I’d give them another chance. While today’s visit was better, Halo has ultimately let me down. Coffee shops need to be able to dial in their espresso shots – meaning that their espresso is calibrated to bring out a balance of flavour. The first time, the shot was so bitter that I couldn’t finish it. The second time was much better, but still very sour. A shop’s espresso doesn’t have to be completely perfect – coffee is always a battle to find the perfect flavour. But this was just poor quality. The staff on my first visit was quite cold, but the barista that served me today was quite nice. They weren’t very passionate about coffee though. That love for coffee really goes a long way for a coffee shop. This was not a place that was serious about their coffee. It showed in the staff’s interactions with me, and the quality of the espresso shot. It’s ok for a shop to be mediocre in its coffee. But I expected much better from a shop that brands themselves as “Mississauga’s own independent specialty coffee shop”. I don’t like posting negative reviews, but Halo gets a thumbs down from me.

Kaldi’s & Pink G Cafe – Menu with Prices – 4850 W Flamingo Rd Suite 26, Las Vegas

Adorable coffee and tea shop with hand crafted beverages! Saw this place had 5 stars but only a few reviews so when I was in the area, decided to give it a try. It’s tucked in the back corner of the shopping center and at first I couldn’t find it but glad I didn’t give up the hunt. (It’s to the left of the vape shop) The inside is a pink explosion but in a sweet way. There’s couches and lots of comfortable seating if you want to stay for awhile. I had an iced dirty chai craving (let’s be real, I crave those every day) but the sweet owner convinced me to try their signature iced coffee. Man, I’m glad I did it was delicious! I immediately texted a girlfriend and said, “found a new iced coffee, go here ASAP!” She explained how she makes it, the organic and wholesome ingredients she uses and no added sugar. Although I usually steer away from dairy she uses whole milk to give the iced coffee a yummy frothy foam top. And the best part, the homemade fruit syrup at the bottom. Delicious I tell you, delicious. If you’re up for trying something different than a boring iced vanilla latte, I say try this iced coffee! She also made my toddler a iced juice concoction which made him very happy. Overall, it was the priciest iced coffee I’ve had off the strip but I think it’s worth it. Maybe not an every day caffeine fix, but a once in awhile treat. Based on other reviews they also serve afternoon tea and other drinks and treats so I give this very pink little coffee shop a big yes!

Rose’s Coffee Bar – Menu with Prices – 299 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale

Rose’s Coffee Bar is the new coffee shop in Flagler Village located inside of The Dalmar hotel. The coffee shop is on the ground floor of the hotel, and is easily accessible from the street. Rose’s is adorably decorated with light pink accents and aesthetically pleasing design. They serve La Colombe coffee, which I love, and both drinks I purchased so far have tasted delicious. Their Iced Mocha had the perfect balance of coffee and espresso, not tasting too sweet or overpowering, and the simple Iced Latte was delicious. I also tried one of their house-made baked goods, a frosted sugar cookie, and it was incredibly tasty, while also not being too sweet. The staff is friendly and efficient, too! My only little negative is that when I went the second morning around 10:30am to order another Iced Mocha, they told me they were out of chocolate, because they make it in house. I respect their dedication to making their items in house, but so early in the morning I feel like they shouldn’t be sold out so quickly. I’d expect the to be more prepared. Otherwise, its a great coffee shop that I’ll definitely be returning to!

Rose Gold Coffee Company – Menu with Prices – 220 W Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo

this coffee shop already has a five star rating but it definitely deserves MORE five star ratings. i stopped by yesterday, saturday, around 2 and stayed until closing (6 pm). i ordered an iced americano with vanilla and room for cream. the 12 oz and 16 oz are the same price and was 3.50 with the vanilla. it was so good; an iced americano is my usual drink and this definitely did not disappoint. the workers (two young ladies) were super sweet and just had a cool vibe that matched the store. the wifi is good for anyone looking to get some work done, and they play great music as well. not sure if it’s busier on a weekday, but it was the perfect atmosphere for four hours of studying. they have large tables that seat 4 instead of a bunch of small ones that cafes usually have. two of them are right by the window and have window benches/seating so come through if you’re looking for a comfortable study spot or photoshoot spot because it’s definitely instagramable as well ! all in all, rose gold is a (rose) gold standard for coffee shops 10/10 !

Orbit Coffee & Doughnuts – Menu with Prices – 1225 7th St Suite C, Oakland

VIETNAMESE ICED COFFEE!!! But I’m getting ahead of myself.. SUMMARY: Space: 10/10 Staff: 10/10 Vietnamese Iced Coffee: 12/10 Peppermint Tea: 10/10 I was heading back to LA through the W Oakland Station Megabus stop and got dropped off early in the morning. Having some time in my hands I looked for nearby coffee shops for a pick-me-up while I wait. Did a quick Yelp search and this is the closest one that popped up. Donuts look good Space looked fantastic Close proximity to the station So, I made my trek. On my way i looked at some more photos and saw they serve Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It’s settled. This place could be blocks away (it’s only a block from the station though) and I will still make it. Anyone who has not tried Vietnamese Iced Coffee is missing out! Waited for a brief while until it opened and when I got there, the place does not disappoint. The space is laid out well with nice touches here and there. But the star of this review is the coffee. Love me some iced coffee and in my opinion this will always take the cake. It packs a punch but is tempered with the creamy goodness of condensed milk. I also got to try the Peppermint Tea per their recommendation and that one’s tranquility in a cup. Had these two with an apple fritter and it was tasty as well, perfect for a snack. To top it off, the owner was super nice, gracious, and very welcoming. Pleased to make this my first review and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Twin Sisters Brewing Company Menu with Prices 500 Carolina St, Bellingham

Today was my first time as a paying customer. My son and I came here to have brunch. In a nutshell, it was just OK overall. FOOD Overall, the food was ok; the coffee was terrible. -The Beast (3 stars): My sandwich tasted ok, but it looked better than it tasted. I enjoyed the crispiness of the hash browns. -French Toast from kids menu (3 stars): My son liked his French toast, but I have to say $6 for one slice of French toast seems steep. -Drip coffee (1 star): It was absolutely terrible. They use good local coffee (Tony’s), but they brew it way too weak. It almost reminded me of the kind of coffee we get at a gas station. AMBIENCE (4 stars) It only looks like a barn from outside, but it’s a beautiful restaurant inside. The hallway that leads to the main dining hall makes you feel like you are walking through a huge barrel. The dining room looks beautiful, something you cannot guess from outside, with high ceilings. Lots of tables to accommodate many groups big and small. SERVICE (2 stars) Our waiter was did a minimum job. Absolutely no check in after he brought out the food and before bringing out the check. The thing is that the restaurant was not even busy! FINAL THOUGHTS My very first time here was a Yelp Elite event in July 2019 (https://www.yelp.com/biz/yelp-elite-event-twin-sisters-brewing-co-bellingham). I was pleasantly surprised by their food. My understanding is that it was from a special menu and everything was free, which must be taken into consideration when you read the reviews of the event. In any case, my experience today does not mirror the positive experience I had at the Yelp event at all. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a big beautiful restaurant. I could not figure out why this place is not busy, but I now understand why they are not as popular (there are a good number of negative reviews on Yelp). Their rating on Facebook is high (4.5 as of today), but it’s voted by someone who likes the place. RECOMMENDATION If you are looking for good food, I do not recommend this restaurant. If you are a large group and/or drinks are more important than food, this could be a good option. They can accommodate large groups, many of them. They even have large TVs to watch sports. ***************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit “useful” to let me know. Coffee Exchange – Menu with Prices – 207 Wickenden St, Providence

I’m so torn with giving this place only 3 stars, as they easily have the best coffee in Rhode Island that I’ve had (and maybe the best anywhere). However, there are other factors that reduce the rating, which I’ll explain in a minute. I know I just said this, but it deserves repeating: the coffee here is OUTSTANDING. I get the iced tuxedo, and it goes down smoother than a Devin McCourty interception. I could drink one daily, and if I lived a bit closer, I would. The staff have always been super friendly, and I’m amazed by the selection of coffee beans that they offer. You can tell they put real pride in their work. If my review was SOLELY for coffee, it would be six stars, which doesn’t exist, but I’d pull a Vito Corleone and make Yelp an offer they couldn’t refuse. However, I must deduct a star for the food offerings. While I definitely appreciate the Knead donuts, I’m actually NOT trying to star in My 600 Lb Life, and thus don’t want to consume one every time I go. They do not have breakfast sandwiches, and the one bagel I tried was like watching one of the newer Star Wars movies. It made me yearning for ones I’ve enjoyed from the past. I’m also deducting another star for the HORRIBLE atmosphere. Good God, this place is about as relaxing as getting a root canal. The line is chaotic, the tables are TINY, and no matter when you go, it’s packed with wannabe hipsters who I’m sure are all somehow writing the next Moby Dick. Seriously the place is tighter than a Justin Chancellor bass riff, and it makes it uncomfortable to spend time in there. Rumor has it that they turn off the Wi-Fi on weekends to prevent this, but unless every person that I’ve seen with a laptop is trying to beat their 1997 Minesweeper record, I’m not buying it. Part of me feels bad for dinging the place for this, but at the same time, they’re doing nothing to make it less hectic. So if you like a coffee shop where you can read or do a crossword puzzle and relax, you’re better off sitting on the dotted line of the Brooklyn Bridge. If you’re in the area and are craving coffee to go, absolutely give it a shot. If you want to chill out for a while, just be aware of what you’re getting into.

Flying Rhino Coffee – Menu with Prices – 201 Morris St Suite G, Toledo

This is probably one of the best spots in Toledo to get coffee. My boyfriend loved the espresso that he had (he raved about it the entire day) and I thoroughly enjoyed my Japanese-style iced coffee, which was light and smooth. In addition to the great coffee, the space is cute– love that the roaster is on display and the plant shelving. Think: rustic but hip. The new owner, Angie, has done a great job at taking Flying Rhino to the next level.

Carmelo’s Ristorante – Menu with Prices – 238 Snelling Ave S, St Paul

Some of these people that write negative reviews crack me up. One of these clowns wrote a 1 star review because Carmelo’s closed before 9pm as the business hours state. Here’s an idea, call before you come. If it is getting close to closing time you’ll know if you should make the trip or if you’ll have to go somewhere else. The employees have lives too. Relax a little bit, you’ll be much happier. Another joker was critical of the atmosphere, said it was “creepy” – this jabroni needs to find something better to do with their time. I feel bad for you and how unhappy you must be. The last review I find amusing is the dummy that said they went on a busy night without a reservation and had to wait longer than the estimated 15 minutes they were told. You can’t be serious. How is it possible that you have survived this long being as clueless as you are?? Next time, make a reservation. You expect the staff to kick people out or rush them as they eat their meals because you were stupid enough to show up without a reservation during a busy time?? I wish we could review people that hide behind their keyboards and write negative reviews over nonsense – most of you are a joke. Anyway, on to my review. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! First time attending was this evening (1/11/19) with my fiancé, friend, and my soon to be in-laws. I loved every bite of everything I ate. Bruschetta: delicious. Tomato basil soup: delicious. Salad w/creamy peppercorn: delicious. Artichoke dip: delicious. Chicken Carmelo: delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try something else!! There is one problem, the Chicken Carmelo was so good it will be hard for me to try a different menu item!! We went at 7:30 on a Friday night and it was busy, but our service was A1 and the food was phenomenal. I dig the small space vibe and loved the food. Nicely done, Carmelo’s!!

The People’s Perk – Menu with Prices – 551 S Mendenhall St, Greensboro

Absolutely in love with this little coffee shop. The ladies who work here are so friendly and inviting, and the store is adorable with free wifi. Fresh baked donuts on Monday’s from donut world paired with iced and hot coffee on the regular. They also offer specialty drinks- which are freaking killer. But what gets me is the large 20oz iced coffee for $2.12 after tax. The coffee is delicious and that’s a killer deal. They offer almond milk and soy milk for the non dairy drinkers. This is my go-to coffee shop in the boro.

Café Bella – Menu with Prices – 925 Highland Pointe Dr, Roseville

I was in from out of town and as is my custom, I always go out to check out the local coffee shops in the area if I have time. After logging into Yelp, I thought Cafe Bella would be a great choice considering the perfect Yelp score and the review citing great “ambiance”. I have to say, the posted Yelp reviews never mentioned that Cafe Bella is a coffee cart in the lobby of a commercial building! No fault to Tim and his business but if you want a great cup of coffee to take with you, this may be the place. If you’re looking for a place to sit and sip your drink with friends or family, try a different place.

Wallburg Emporium & Coffee Shop – Menu with Prices – 8363 NC-109 a, Winston-Salem

I just want to clear up one thing: At the time of this review they do NOT have ice cream. However, they can make you a milkshake. OK, there, got that off my chest. I’ve now spent a total of about 5hrs in this shop and I have heard no less than 10 people ask for ice cream. My review… Good coffee is few and far between in these parts. Having moved from the Seattle area to NC, you’d hope that I know good coffee when I taste it. I believe I do and since the owners of this shop are also from the Pacific Northwest (PNW), they too know a thing or two about coffee. Thank heavens! Ambiance is important for those of us who like to plug in, connect and work a bit while drinking a good hot or iced beverage. Yes, they have free Wi-Fi. A word of warning for you finicky coffee shop snobs: This is not the type of shop you’re going to find 13 hipsters pounding away on a fancy Apple laptops or a gaggle of REI raincoat-clad granola moms try to maneuver a $600 Double BOB strollers into – it’s just not like that. This place is in a very small town on the way to small towns (all directions). But it’s a gem because the nearest coffee shop that’s worth a darn is probably 12 miles away. What to expect: a quiet, down-to-earth personalized coffee experience with southern flair and a PNW twist. Expect to have a conversation with your barista (most likely one of the owners) and possibly those in the short line around you. This is NC, and it’s how we do it.
