I will start this off by stating that I have been a barista for 3 years so I can get picky about my coffee, but I’m genuinely disappointed in the service I received today. I get it, making q complicated drink can be annoying, especially when it’s blended, but the barista who served me was rude and rolled her eyes at my requests. I asked for a medium blended snickers with almond milk, and a mix of bold and smooth espresso. She charged me 50 cents more for asking for mixed shots, which is absolutely ridiculous. If someone were to come through my coffee shop and ask for half-calf (half decaf half full calf espresso shots) I’m certainly not going to make them pay extra unless they ask for an extra shot. I know that perhaps this isn’t the barista’s fault, but no where on the menu was I informed that I’d be charged more for asking for mixed shots. I feel as if she did it because she could. I also requested almond milk, because I am severely lactose intolerant. I took 3 sips before I was in agonizing pain for the better part of my 2 hour commute to Portland. My drink definitely contained dairy, which I understand as a barista is sometimes an honest accident and it can get mixed in somehow, but after how rude the barista was to me, I don’t feel like making a real excuse for her. I definitely will not return if I see her working. The other ladies have been incredibly kind, and always make my drink correctly, but this experience has turned me sour. The price for a medium blended snickers with almond milk and mixed shots was $6.50, which is nearly a large blended drink at Dutch Bros and is MORE than a venti frappe at Starbucks. I no longer recommend this shop.

AllMyTea Cafe Menu with Prices 400 Disney Way Ste 129, Anaheim

I wanted to love this place! The cashier was so sweet and kind but my drink was very disappointing! I am lactose intolerant so I ordered a caramel latte with ALMOND milk. I was charged an extra $1 for this, which is typical. I left the area and started drinking my latte about 10 minutes later when it cooled down only to have the taste of sour burnt espresso… I am a mega coffee drinker so it bothered me, but may be fine for most casual drinkers. About 20 minutes later and half way into my drink.. my body realized.. it was made with dairy milk. Like I mentioned, I was charged an extra $1 for almond to avoid this lactose intolerance issue, but my drink was made mistakenly. I understand people make mistakes and I wish I could just toss the drink and forget about it, but after spending hours in agony over a mistake that shouldn’t have been made, I was just disappointed. Overall, this shop has a great atmosphere, great options (oat, almond, soy, coconut, or regular milks), and great friendly employees.. but I ask that they please pay more attention to their orders!!!!

Organic Man Coffee Trike – Menu with Prices – 4501 McPherson Rd #9, Laredo

Cute little independent shop. I had high hopes for the coffee. Unfortunately the barista serving me, while very friendly and pleasant, simply didn’t have the level of training that one would expect of a dedicated coffee shop. When I was initially asked “what size?”, I asked if they used a standard “doppio” or 2 ozs of espresso, she said that their “12 oz cappuccino” came with only a single shot of espresso….most places, a doppio or 2 oz shot of espresso is served as standard, bringing a cappuccino to 6 ozs total (2 ea of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam))….so no idea how they get to a cappuccino with a single 1 oz shot of espresso to 12 ozs……so I asked for a “doppio”. My first “cappuccino” that I ordered was a latte (predominantly milk, maybe 3x the qty of espresso). She was pleasant enough to make a second one after me asking for equal qty of milk to espresso…..but that one was simply average in flavor. Not sure what roasting house the beans come from (she didn’t know), but the flavor was pretty lackluster. Also, for this cappuccino, I was charged with tax, $6.12. Unfortunately, overall, average at best.

Sweetwaters Hahne Bldg – Menu with Prices – 52 Halsey St, Newark

Perfect shop for downtown Newark. Small, quaint and delicious coffee. And the staff are S U P E R accommodating and VERY nice. I usually get the Crème Caramel with almond milk until one of the SUPER DUPER nice baristas (I don’t know her name but will update when I find out) suggested I try the oat milk. It must be popular because when I ordered it recently, they were out of oat milk. I jokingly offered to buy them some oat milk from the Whole Foods next door in the Hanhe building. Instead, it was made with the almond milk. And the same barista suggested the organic agave to sweeten it up a little with a piece of the coffee cake. Hot perfection after the perfect workout at Planet Fitness. I can’t wait until my workout is complete tomorrow for some oat milk PERFECTION! And that awesome barista.

Quick Fix Coffee Co – Menu with Prices – 2517 Willamette St, Eugene

This place at first seemed like another meh coffee drive through at first sight but once I started going I do not go anywhere else if I can help it. I used to live across town and would specifically drive here just to get my drink. Which they learn fast. I never expect a coffee shop to know my drink but they do, even when someone else picks it up for me! Aw! Coffee – I get hemp lattes ( so many Eugene places do not have hemp milk. It’s not that weird. I don’t feel like drinking that much soy and almond milk is usually tasteless and can have a burnt taste easily) Thank you Quick Fix! The use organic Cascade Estate. I’m always very happy. I’ve tried their mocha which are good, and chai for an afternoon drink ( you can get sweet or spicy) You can also get a 24 oz hot size. Thank you! Sometime ya just need that extra 4 oz. Service- very sweet and competent people! When they have a line they walk out and get orders from the cars- smart! They have always been more than happy to accommodate any drinks I wanted to try ( not too sweet, milk type mixes, eggnog chai ) I think the owner is sometimes there taking orders and she’s super sweet. They have an extensive menu of blended and iced drinks. I have yet to get into because I’m so happy with my drink. Muffins and Ruthie’s Cookies for snacks. They seemed to be open every major holiday which is great. Some covered seating as well. What a gem on Willamette Street!

The Coffee & Tea Exchange – Menu with Prices – 3311 N Broadway, Chicago

Preface: have inside secrets that I’m only telling now because I moved out of state and miss CTX every. single. day. 1. This is the FRESHEST ROASTED coffee in Chicago. If you time your visit right, the coffee beans scooped for you by the friendly staff will still be warm from the GD roaster. 2. CTX has been selling high-quality, low-cost bulk tea since before I could read. Don’t be blinded by the massive amount of bulk coffee – try the tea. It’s SO GOOD and SO CHEAP. 3. NOT ONLY are drinks cheaper here (coffee OR tea based…including matcha)- but you’re getting more espresso than you would elsewhere. Most places give you 1 shot for a small drink, 2 for a medium or large drink (so you’re just paying for more milk and less buzz). CTX’s standard protocol is SM: 2 shots, MED: 3 shots, LG: 4 shots. UH THAT’S RIGHT. 4. CTX respects the bean. Their coffee is roasted in perfect harmony with the flavor profile of the region and soil of origin. Do you like caramel notes? fruity acidity? peanut butter mouthfeel? Not sure what you like but you know you hate Colombian coffee? Tell them. They’re there to help guide you to coffee bliss. And you know what? They enjoy it. When you finally find your perfect bean/roast/blend, a barista in purgatory gets to stop re-foaming milk for the perfect dry cappuccino. 5. They do all this without being snobby or pretentious. If you work at CTX, you genuinely enjoy helping people, making their day a little better, putting them at ease while you do the heavy lifting, and guiding them to caffeinated bliss. So ask questions, try a little of everything, and don’t forget to TIP the hardworking humans serving you. TL;DR: Best coffee in Chicago, and possibly the world. Tip your Baristas.

Halo Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 3024 Hurontario St, Mississauga

I hate doing this. As someone who works in “specialty coffee,” I don’t like rating other shops – especially negatively. I’m always on the look out for new specialty coffee shops because coffee is always a learning experience and an adventure. And I believe in supporting independent “specialty coffee” shops. I want to be at shops that not only pulls amazing espresso shots, but that the baristas show passion in their coffee. I was really excited to visit, having seen it on Instagram. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in Halo – a place that brands itself as a “specialty coffee” shop on Instagram. I have now been there twice, because I thought I’d give them another chance. While today’s visit was better, Halo has ultimately let me down. Coffee shops need to be able to dial in their espresso shots – meaning that their espresso is calibrated to bring out a balance of flavour. The first time, the shot was so bitter that I couldn’t finish it. The second time was much better, but still very sour. A shop’s espresso doesn’t have to be completely perfect – coffee is always a battle to find the perfect flavour. But this was just poor quality. The staff on my first visit was quite cold, but the barista that served me today was quite nice. They weren’t very passionate about coffee though. That love for coffee really goes a long way for a coffee shop. This was not a place that was serious about their coffee. It showed in the staff’s interactions with me, and the quality of the espresso shot. It’s ok for a shop to be mediocre in its coffee. But I expected much better from a shop that brands themselves as “Mississauga’s own independent specialty coffee shop”. I don’t like posting negative reviews, but Halo gets a thumbs down from me.

Kings Peak Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 412 S 7th W Suite 140, Salt Lake City

I really wanted to like this place. It?s a lovely space and the barista was very friendly, unfortunately the coffee we had was terrible. I had a macchiato, and instead of being an espresso shot marked with a dash of steamed milk, it was a full glass of milk with a splash of espresso. My partner had an americano and the espresso was under extracted and sour. Based on the other reviews of this place, I want to believe the bad drinks were just an anomaly, but they were bad enough we won?t be returning to find out.

Anthem Coffee & Tea – Point Ruston – Menu with Prices – 5005 Main St #105, Tacoma

I was very excited to see an anthem coffee open at Point Ruston. I was even happier when I decided to venture out and try their dirty chai with soy. Essentially it’s chai, soy, and espresso shots. It sounds a little crazy, but it’s super delicious! It is actually my new favorite thing at any coffee shop now. I love that they have these creative drinks, and that I found my new favorite, but I have found that the last two times I have gone there, they haven’t been consistent. Last week, we ordered a mocha and a dirty chai and both were extremely milky. It was hard to taste any coffee or chai. I’m not sure if the espresso shots were made poorly or the measurements were wrong, but they just weren’t good. Also, the coffee is rarely very hot. We gave Anthem another try a few days ago. I really do like the flavor of their coffee and just want our drinks to be like they were when we first ordered them. This last time when I ordered, they asked me if I wanted vanilla or spicy chai. I have never been asked this, and didn’t know what to pick, so I picked vanilla, but I think it was the spicy chai that I like. Maybe some people ask for your preference and other people just make it, I’m not sure. However, consistency is really important. I really want to keep going to Anthem and getting my new found drink, but I want it hot, the espresso shots made well, and the same chai used every time. My partner just wants his mocha with well-made shots, milk, a balanced amount of chocolate, and to get it hot. We will give it another try for sure, but I really hope this next time goes better.

Oasis Nutrition- Modern Protein Café – Menu with Prices – 431 E First St #4K, Santa Ana

Wish I would of loved this place but I didn’t. I live in Santa Ana and have been following a keto diet for multiple years, being that it gained popularity I was excited to see a Cafe offer keto options as well as (according to the reviews) hire employees who are knowledgeable. I walked in and ordered the blue matcha iced drink. They were sold out. So I ordered the regular iced matcha drink. I asked the employee what it was sweetened with or if it came sweetened and he was confused on my question. Another employee came in and then told me that it isn’t sweetened at all but the almond milk was enough of a sweetener. This to me was a red flag. All my keto followers know that unsweetened almond milk doesn’t have any taste to it. Okay great…. so now I order the iced matcha tea (which by the way does have regular almond milk, not unsweetened) and I asked if they have stevia. They do, but it’s the powder packets. You know… the ones that are half dextrose :/ to end things, the guy who made my drink gave me an ICED matcha drink in a hot styrofoam cup. I was super confused. I also ordered a medium and I paid like 6 dollars. All in all let me say this. I think opening up a health cafe in Santa Ana is such an amazing idea but please actually do it right and put effort! I feel like whoever opened this place is a sales person for herbalife and decided to cash out on the keto trend. (I only say this because it’s pretty obvious that they carry Herbalife). Also don’t make teas 6 dollars. I hope to try this place again in the future and have a different opinion, but for now it seems like Starbucks is a way better option and not 6 dollars.

Ritual Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 1300 Haight St, San Francisco

College student here and I always come to this cafe but the baristas are unfriendly and inattentive. When asking a question, I was told by one of the baristas to “order at the register” and I was asked if I “can wait,” which I gladly agreed. This is my THIRD time at this cafe and the service depends on the person. The coffee is a solid 7/10 and I’ve ordered their lattes, but I feel like it depends on the person who is making them. Once I had a latte in which the espresso was still sitting at the bottom and the milk was at the top! Also, I typically order almond milk and on one occasion, the barista had forgotten. Because of a milk allergy, I found out that day by feeling sick, which was honestly not fun. One thing that they have never done was ask for my name for my drink. Also, it would be nice too if some of the baristas didn’t try to ring up customers as quickly as possible…. Ironically, they often they treat older customers with more respect, attention, and patience. It is unfortunate, because I have plenty of younger friends who would have enjoyed coming here FOR THE COFEE. However, with service this disappointing, I hope this review serves as a warning to fellow students. If you are a young 20-something or go to University of San Francisco nearby, please please please, I urge you to go elsewhere for coffee! This is not a place for friendly service.

Kaffee Haus – Menu with Prices – e, 1599 S St Francis Dr, Santa Fe

Drove by this place on the way into the square and decided to stop by. It’s really adorable and the barista working was very polite and asked if my drink was good or bad after I tried it. I ordered a “chunky monkey” which was a mixture of chocolate and banana and any choice of dairy or dairy substitute. I ordered mine without the milk and added 2 shots of espresso. To be honest I really enjoyed it. The banana is hard to taste over the chocolate but it was good, not too sweet and not overbearing with the chocolate. They have pastries as well as breakfast items and a couple of tables on the side if you’ve got time to sit down and enjoy the day.

Elixir Espresso – Menu with Prices – 10427 W Aero Rd, Spokane

Went there on my way to work. Asked for a quad Expresso blended drink. Looking through the window and saw that she didn’t put any Expresso in my drink. I asked her if she put any espresso in my drink and she looked at me and said yes. She also said she mixed it with a ice cream base that i didn’t ask for. So I pulled off and went in and had the other girl make it. She have it to me and you could clearly see the difference between the two drinks. If I didn’t go in and had another drink made I would have paid $9.00 for a milkshake which is “exactly” what someone neede before working all day! She never said sorry either.
