I’d call Fehrenbacher’s Artisan Sausage a Hidden Gem. Not so much because it’s hidden, more because it’s unassuming. From the outside it looks like a sausage butcher which is exactly what it is but here’s where I touch on the unassuming part. Fehrenbacher’s Artisan Sausage is exciting! It’s an exciting addition to Gainesville which, let’s be honest, has a weak foodie scene. There is a small menu posted up front which does change. A mainstay on the menu is the Sausage Sandwich which my husband got. I ordered the Anthony Soprano Flatbread. Truth be told, I’m not a big sausage fan. I usually only eat it on pizza. But that Sausage Sandwich was so tasty I would order one for myself next time. I am also not a huge fan of salami; I ordered the salami flatbread as a safe alternative to sausage. It was delicious! I was beyond impressed by the fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the food so much we ordered some to take home and cook ourselves. We got NY strip steak, Italian sausage, and a rosemary lamb sausage. The steak was phenomenal (thanks to my gourmet cook of a husband) and the lamb sausage was great too but we weren’t fans of the Italian sausage. We both can’t wait to go back. Here’s what I didn’t like about Fehrenbacher’s: it is super small inside and when it gets crowded, it’s downright claustrophobic. Bad enough that I had to go outside while we waited for our order. Now back to the good: the outdoor seating more than makes up for the lack of space inside. The outdoor seating is the biggest I’ve seen of any restaurant I’ve ever been to. There were even games, so bring the kids.

Sign of the Thymes Bistro – Menu with Prices – 5845 W Palmaire Ave, Glendale

What a quaint gem! Seating indoor and outdoor. Friendly staff (thx Capri) and great food. The homemade cheese and broccoli soup is a definite. Include a side of their bruschetta- I tried the Italian. Yummy. Also tried a bite of the Greek flatbread – great flavors. The Holiday drinks were a hit. When in historic Glendale do yourself a favor and stop in for a try.

Joe’s Italian Ice Menu with Prices 2201 S Harbor Blvd, Anaheim

Joe’s Italian Ice is located across from Pho Ha Plus, with its own (small) parking lot and dog friendly outdoor seating (there is some indoor seating available). My husband, our little girl dog and I came by last Friday afternoon, around 3:35 pm. After looking over the menu, we ended up getting: La Bamba, $5.99 (tax included)- This frozen dessert consist of chamoy Italian ice, dole whip, chamoy sauce and tajin. My husband ordered this one and loved it. I don’t like the taste of chamoy or tajin so I didn’t have any. Great size for one person. Reg Joe Latti, $5.99 (tax included)- This dessert comes with your choice of flavored Italian ice and vanilla ice cream. I decided to get strawberry Italian ice. I liked that this dessert also has ice cream inside at the bottom of the dessert too so it isn’t just on top. Loved the strawberry flavor and surprised to see small bits of strawberry in it. The ice cream really goes perfectly with the Italian ice and would recommend getting the latti if you don’t know what you want (you get the best of both frozen desserts). Free pup cup of mango Italian ice- Dogs get free Italian ice and on the day we came, the girl at the register asked us if mango flavor would be okay (she said that is what they give dogs but not sure if the flavors vary). I was surprised to see pieces of mango in the Italian ice and I liked the flavor (my dog seemed to like my strawberry Italian ice and ice cream more though, lol, because food taste better when it’s not yours). —————————- (Total= $11.98 with tax) Wait time to order took a little over 5 minutes. Current Yelp check in offer is one extra stamp on stamp card. Once you get 10 stamps, you can redeem it for a free Italian ice or a Joe Latti (please note that they do accept expired stamp cards). I have to say that the Italian ice here is better than Rita’s. Authentic Philadelphia water ice with flavors made fresh and perfectly sweetened. Love this place and will definitely come back. Please note that there are restrooms but you will need to ask for the key at the window. I didn’t use it so I cannot comment on its cleanliness.

The District – Seville Steak & Seafood – Menu with Prices – 123 E Government St, Pensacola

My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary with dinner at The District. It’s a nice, quaint downtown location with valet parking. The seating downstairs is snug, be prepared to be in close proximity to other patrons. We started our meal with the cheese and charcuterie board, calamari, and crab cake appetizers. The cheese and charcuterie board featured crackers, a variety of meats (salami, sausage, ham), a variety of cheeses (soft, Roquefort, cheddar), and other accoutrement. Keep in mind it is chef’s selection, so it may vary. The calamari comes served on marinara sauce and topped with a savory drizzle basil aioli. The calamari itself was delicious; however after sitting on the marinara sauce the breading becomes soggy and less appetizing. Both my husband and I would have preferred the calamari without the marinara. The crab cake was a single crab cake served on a savory Tabasco beurre blanc sauce. The crab cake was moist and paired with the sauce was good. Some of the reviews we read said the crab cakes were the best crab cakes reviewers had tasted. They were good, but we wouldn’t go as far as to say they were the best. My husband ordered the bone in cowboy ribeye medium. The presentation is nice with a nice char and large bone. The steak itself was cooked to order and tender; however there was very little flavor. It tasted as if the steak was broiled without seasoning. My husband did mention a few times it did taste a little greasy. I ordered the double cut lamb chops and an à la carte side of wild mushrooms. Again the presentation was nice, chops were perfectly charred; however, it was flavorless. The wild mushroom were portioned for 2-3 people. They were well cooked, but once again lacked flavor. Lastly, we order the chocolate roulade, which is like a Swiss roll and it was delicious. Again the presentation was good. They even wrote Happy Anniversary on our plate. Overall, the service was excellent. Our waitress was great; she didn’t hover, but perfectly timed her approaches.

Urzi’s Italian Market – Menu with Prices – 5430 Southwest Ave, St. Louis

We are so happy we stumbled onto Urzi’s Market! 1. First thing we noticed is the feel and the vibe, it’s wonderfully old school and the cramped/packed aisles of goodness is fun! 2. There are so many items that must be unique to Italian stores that you won’t find anywhere else. Additionally, as expected with a market in the Hill, there are several Italian items. There are also non-foodstuffs that were fun to explore. 3. The deli and menu was delicious and unexpected. We order the #3 (Something like Extremely Italian sandwich) and it was so fresh and tasty. Great outdoor seating as well 4. The service was great and we always appreciate the offer of suckers/candy for our kiddos. We are looking forward to going back and exploring more!

wicked links – Menu with Prices – 3200 Gresham Lake Rd, Raleigh

Did I think I would find an extremely tasty Italian sausage sandwich outside of Lowe’s Home Improvement? Nope! We were stopping by Lowe’s to grab a few things for the house and had not yet grabbed lunch. There was a food cart near the entrance of the store called Wicked Links and their menu noted various different sausage sandwiches and hot dogs. They smelled so good! As we approached the cart, we saw people walking away with sandwiches and they looked pretty good. We decided to give it a try. I ordered the Italian sausage sandwich with peppers and onions and my fiance ordered the brotwurst. The sausages were hot off of the grill, the bread was a little toasty, and the veggies were yummy. I was so impressed with the quality and taste of the sandwich. The prices are decent and the employee working the cart was very friendly, as well. Not a bad lunch for a home improvement trip to Lowe’s!

We Olive & Wine Bar – Menu with Prices – 32 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena

This is a cute store with a variety of olive oils on the shelves. I learned about it through a Facebook ad, and upon clicking on it, I received a 50% coupon via Facebook messenger for the charcuterie cheese plate. It’s located on the busy strip of Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena. You can park at the 90 mins free parking structure on De Lacey. Upon entering they have some samples of olive oil for customers to try. The staff were friendly and greeted me cordially. They have a cute little patio and I went there to wait for a friend. We decided to sit indoor, which had a casual, cozy, and relaxing ambiance. We ordered the artisan cheese & charcuterie plate and the burrata flatbread. As we were waiting, a staff member brought us a plate of sample olive oils to taste. Some of those oils were interesting. The charcuterie plate was lovely. There were 3 kinds of cheese: Port Derby, Toma, & St. Angel. The Port was interesting. The flavor was not strong but certainly the texture was firm. The Toma reminds me of mozzarella except it had a saltier flavor. The St. Angel resembled brie except it had a hint of citrus flavor. The charcuterie were the wild boar and Tartufo. Both were cut in thin but firm round slices, texture wise they were similar to Chinese sausages. The wild boar tasted like jerkies. The Tartufo had a more pronounced taste likely from the spices and truffle in it. There were some sort of mustard sauce and fig jam. The plate came with a small, cut up loaf of baguette bread, crackers, and olive oil for dipping. The fig jam was bomb, especially if you put a bit in the flatbread. The burrata flatbread had basil pesto, salami, and aged balsamic sauce on it. It was slightly more doughy than other flatbreads elsewhere but was still warm and soft and delightful. Since there was balsamic sauce in it, the fig jam from the charcuterie mixed in well with each bite, a new level of freshness to the taste buds. In addition, they gave us 10% on the flatbread with yelp check in. The waitress (Marissa) was attentive and helpful. I love the whole experience here. If you’re looking for a calm and relaxing spot with friendly staff to chill, and you’d like to have a feel for Italian snack, I would highly recommend this spot!

La Sandwicherie Miami Beach – Menu with Prices – 229 14th St, Miami Beach

I returned here again about 8 1/2 years after posting my original review. Just as I did back then, I still give La Sandwicherie a solid 3 stars for “A-OK”, and I still don’t get the hype and the amount of 5 star reviews which, per Yelp’s rating scale, should indicate a place is “as good as it gets” and has no room for improvement. We came here at around 11:30 on a Saturday night; We were just starting our evening and wanted to get some food on our stomachs. After looking at the menu, we stood at the “Order Here” window at the far end of this eatery for several minutes, before giving up after being ignored and walked around to the other order window along the counter that’s located in the alley. After a while standing there, one of the employees finally asked if we “needed anything”, and we explained we’d been waiting to order food and beverages (for some reason I’d have thought that’d be self-explanatory since we were standing at the window marked “Order Here”?). I had the Italian, which contained ham, salami, prosciutto and provolone cheese, and when asked, I requested everything on it. I also had a Vitamin Water. All together, my sandwich and drink came to $14 before gratuity. The sandwiches here are good, but to be frank, I’ve had better Italian sandwiches with more flavor at other sandwich/sub places (including at least 1 national chain) for less $$. Also, at $10.90 for the sandwich alone, this place is definitely priced a few dollars higher than it should be. When we were here there was no more open stool seating available at the counter, but they do have flat tops covering the planters so if need be, one can have a seat there while eating.

Southwest Market Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 5224 Columbia Ave, St. Louis

This place is AWESOME!!! Was working in the area and it looked like it would be a hidden gem. It was!!! Kim, the manager was super nice and shared with me a little history about this place. She also let me sample the “Homemade Salami” and recommended their house special “Poor Boy” sandwich on honey wheat. When originally looking at the menu I was slightly taken back by the prices vs sandwich size. The 3.5 inch sandwich is bigger than any six-inch you will get anywhere else. I have a pretty big appetite and it filled me up perfectly. I took Kim’s recommendation and ordered the Poor Boy fully loaded and it was delicious! I highly recommend this sandwich shop for its quaint personality and awesome food. Sandwich even came with a free cookie! Everyone should eat here!

Stock in Trade – Menu with Prices – 1272 Danforth Ave, Toronto

I adore a good sandwich and here they do it right! Menu changes daily, good for those who like surprises. No seating so purely take out. Nice clean store with no unpleasant odors. Fellow in the front carving up a carcass so vegans you’ll definitely want to avoid this store. I felt that I stepped into a man cave kitchen. Hubby and I tried the following: -Pork Pinbone (a type of cut) Steak Sandwich – this is the kind of sandwich you can really sink your teeth into: savoury, succulent with wonderful flavors in a delicious artisan roll that is sturdy enough to contain it all. Not a dainty finger sandwich, keep it in the wrapper and only expose what you’re going to bite otherwise you might lose a tasty morsel of meat. Not for those dieting because they don’t trim off the fat here. -Crispy Beef Sandwich – Asian flavor profile, tasty. -Butternut Squash and Lemongrass Soup – cashier/cook asked if I wanted him to “finish it” with some pork belly HECK YEAH! I don’t say “no” to pork belly. Soup was thick and hearty with some heat to add even more interest. -Maple Beans – the consistency of a chunky type of refried beans. Smoky with a touch of sweetness and a little kick of spice. – a shot of bone broth $1- great depth of flavour and no, they don’t skim off the fat. They boil the bones overnight and use this as a base for their soups. Happy-go-lucky staff that are very engaging and a cook that will tweak the menu to accommodate your dietary wishes. Love it here!

Kebab Casual Menu with Prices 2604 Meridian St, Bellingham

I got the Lamb and Cauliflower kebab sandwich and a Chicken mini gyro to split for lunch. Both were delicious. The meat in both was very tender (but not over tenderized), high-quality, and juicy with just the right amount of char. Sauces and veggies were different for both. Lamb came with beet hummus, harissa mayo, and slaw. Chicken gyro came with tzatziki, tomato, onion, and cucumber. Lamb was earthy and sweet, and the chicken was bright and tangy. Flatbread was legit, not the spongy floor mat, Americanized kind, but thin, bubbly, and chewy with good flavor. There was bit of a wait on a Saturday afternoon, but it was 100% worth it for fresh and delicious food.

Shishka Mediterranean Grill and Hookah Bar – Menu with Prices – 114 Campbell Ave SE, Roanoke

We were looking for Italian food near our hotel, and this restaurant was listed by Trip Advisor under Italian, which was really a misnomer. Their menu did have a few Italian items, but this was more of a bar than a real restaurant. It kind of went like this:My husband: I’ll have the veal parmesan.Waitress: We don’t carry veal parmesan any more. We haven’t changed the menu yet.Husband: Do you still carry chicken parmesan?Waitress: Oh, yes.Husband: I’ll have that.5 minutes laterWaitress: I’m sorry; we don’t have any chicken to make chicken parmesan. Me (to husband): Do you want to go somewhere else?Husband: No, that’s OK.Waitress: So what can I get you instead?Husband: I’ll need to see the menu.Waitress: Oh. Sorry. (Hands menu to him)Husband (after a short perusal, still hoping for Italian): I’ll have the calzone.10 minutes laterCook (we figure the waitress made the cook come out): We don’t have any ham to make the calzone. Would pepperoni be OK?Husband: Sure.Of course, that meant waiting for another 15-20 minutes for our food to be prepared, so we were pretty hungry by the time it arrived. Sadly, the food itself wasn’t very good. I had a falafel wrap that didn’t taste much better than cardboard, and my husband’s calzone was really just flat bread grilled with pepperoni and mozarella. We didn’t order anything alcoholic — maybe it’s a better bar than it is a restaurant.

BreadHive Bakery & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 402 Connecticut St, Buffalo

I’ve had a few people rave about the breakfast sandwiches here, so I finally got to give them a shot after a night out in Buffalo. I now understand the hype! I came here with two others on a Sunday morning around 10am. The shop on the inside is small but had a few booths and tables. They have a good outdoor seating section though, which was perfect on this warm, sunny morning. When we showed up, there were a few people sitting outside and a couple inside and we virtually didn’t have to wait in line at all. The menu, in my opinion, is perfectly sized with a variety of breakfast sandwich and lunch sandwich options, a wide variety of bagels, pretzel rolls, and other types of breads, as well as pastries and desserts. They also appeared to have a good amount of vegan items on the menu too. The staff behind the counter were very conscientious and easy to talk to. So I was told to try “The Aaliyah” breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs, house breakfast sausage, cheddar cheese, butter, and maple syrup) on a bagel for my first time here. So I ordered that on a Rosemary Salt bagel and a cup of coffee. The price for the sandwich and coffee came in just under $10, which I thought was pretty fair. Afterwards, I sat outside and sipped on my cup of joe with my party and it seemed like maybe ten minutes passed and each of our sandwiches were ready. So first thing I noticed was how big this thing was! The amount of egg and cheese was perfect! What really sets this sandwich off though is the breakfast sausage: it was cooked perfectly and had a little spice to it (maybe sage?) and was tender and just so fresh. The maple syrup helped to balance the flavor out between the egg and breakfast sausage and it was not dumped on the sandwich, it was just the right amount where you could tell it was there. I’m not a huge bagel guy, but man, that Rosemary Salt bagel was phenomenal and had a nice chew to it. I’m glad they wrap the sandwich when they serve it though because it feels like the fillings want to slide right off. The sandwich itself though was perfectly sized though as that with a cup of coffee set my day off right and left me very satisfied! I’m very impressed by this little place! I would love to come back and try one of their lunch sandwiches but would be just as happy to order another “Aaliyah”. ?
