Goodness gracious this is terrible for nightlife and even worse if you compare it to the Mill Ave location. It is literally the stickiest floor I’ve suffered through. I wasn’t really even trying to bust a move and thought my shoes would get stuck just drunkenly shuffling around. I hate how they still keep out all the bar stools at night, meaning I not only have to compete with all the other customers for attention, I have to bump into and reach around people sitting down in front of the bar at a packed club. That’s bad logistics. People who want to sit down should do so outside, but good luck as there’s not much space to do that. It is not half as good as the other one I frequent, but I hope they keep working on it. But on the other hand, this is Westgate so just staying open a couple years is probably all they need to consider it successful.

Gold & Silver – Menu with Prices – 3121 Franklin Rd SW, Roanoke

Been going there for years! i can honestly say it will be a cold day in hell before i go back! I went to play poker and wore a nice sweater and a ball cap and some brand name track pants! I looked better than the grungy idiot they let in! I told the young lady at the door i was there for the poker game! She gave a blank stare and said “i don’t think they are doing the poker thing anymore” i looked inside and actually saw some gentleman sitting there playing poker! Which i don’t understand why the door was standing wide open anyway it’s not supposed to be,however that’s another problem! So i step two feet inside the place before im met by a dancer with a major attitude problem asking “did she let you in wearing that?!” i was wearing my ball cap backwards which is an easy fix. However she pointed at my pants, i politely said “yes ma’am didn’t think it was an issue i had worn them before” she then escorted me to the desk at the door and began to criticize my outfit! I was so embarrassed because i have seen so much worse walk into that club, because again I’ve been going there for years! I was refunded my money and said “well i just saved a couple of hundred” and left! I have NEVER been treated so rudely before in my life! If i ever get the urge to go to a strip club again i will make sure I will drive the extra 20 minutes and go to southern xposure where the dancers and staff are much friendlier and welcoming! Never again treasure club i have ripped up my membership!

Willowcreek Grill Menu with Prices 2273 S Vista Ave #150, Boise

So being from San Francisco and now living in the Bay Area means I have a lot of friends and family who have very high flutting tastes regarding sushi. Yet I have taken a couple of them here when they visited me in Idaho in the past (after picking them up from the airport or while driving them to the airport in Boise), and I visited here recently again after a couple years from moving back to California. They are always very good. Extremely surprisingly so considering they are not near the ocean. Since I hadn’t been here in 2 years I forgot that they’re also incredibly generous with their rolls and that instead of the six pieces or less you get at sushi restaurants in California, you get 12 pieces here. So I ordered way too much and I took it back to my grandpa’s in Jerome, and it still held up well. He doesn’t eat sushi so I ordered from Wildfire’s menu for him. He’s very very picky and I should know from living with him for 4 years and cooking all his meals… He really liked it and thought it had been ordered from his country club just down the street and was surprised to learn that I had picked it up hours ago. Such a plus that if you don’t like sushi you can always order from their grill menu! I love sitting on the sushi side because it’s quieter and not as packed, and my servers have always been incredibly kind and phenomenal. In fact, the last time I was there I did not take my credit card back and when I realized this I was horrified because they would be closed the day I was flying out. I called them and they told me they would mail it to me in CA. Now that is crazy good customer service!

Radisson Hotel Atlanta-Marietta – Menu with Prices – 1775 Parkway Pl SE, Marietta

So many things went wrong with this stay and I don’t know where to even begin except to say that I never in my life stayed at a Radisson Hotel nor will I again. Oddly enough, I encountered no service issues during my stay … it was just the overall grime and yuck factor of this hotel and quite frankly it’s clientele which turned me off. When we pulled in, there were some shady characters in the parking lot. These folks did not look like the type who would pay $120 per night for a hotel. They looked more like vagrants. However, low and behold they were staying there. Also, there is a REALLY sketchy dance club next door called Tiger Tiger. Imagine any gangstah rap video you’ve ever seen before and that is who frequent this dance club. They must offer deeply discounted rooms on an app because the hotel is filled with people staying there who are going to the club next door. The hallways looked like a combination of a frat party/rap video. People were screaming in the hallways, walking around with red solo cups and playing loud music. The rooms have connecting doors and the walls are pretty thin, so I could hear everything in the next room like it was in my room. Loud teens and 20-something year olds everywhere. It was like staying in a college dorm room. The hotel has seen better days … the windows to the room were crusted with white stains and you couldn’t really see out. There was a sliding balcony door which to a small balcony with no furniture which was shared with the room next door. It looked like the floor could give out at any moment. To say the carpet was old and filthy would be an understatement. I wore shoes the whole time in the room. The overall feel of the room was a hotel from the 2003-era. Same furniture I remember, draperies, color scheme as early 2000/late 1990s hotels. The lobby seems to be where they put their money … it’s all brand new and beautiful. They have an odd little restaurant/bar which looks like it has never been cleaned and by closing time at 11 p.m. on a Friday, they were out of every beer on tap. Next door, the club music booms until 3:30 a.m. and if your room is located on the front side of the building facing the parking lot, you’ll hear it all night long through your window. There is no escaping the sound of booming club music, so if you are a light sleeper … you will be a non-sleeper. After the music stops, you then have drunks in the parking lot making noise which comes up into the hallways and rooms. It seemed like there were a LOT of problems with guests that were do to the overall shadiness of those who stayed there. Often we would hear people yelling at the front desk people … and twice we noticed police cars pulled up outside the hotel. This was during a 24 hour long stay. Avoid this hotel unless you are going to get your groove on at Tiger Tiger … or really miss going to college in the 1990s in which case, staying here will be a trip down memory lane. The only reason I left 2 stars is because the front desk staff was helpful and friendly.

19th Street Station – Menu with Prices – 339 19th St, Oakland

I just had a really horrible and offensive experience with the bartender/owner here. As a sober person it is hard to find places to watch sports publicly where it’s accepted to not be drinking. I came in here for game 1 of the NBA finals, ordered and paid for a club soda, and stood for the first quarter, as there wasn’t available seating. A little after the second quarter started, a table opened up and I sat down, and watched the rest of the second quarter sitting there as I finished my club soda, planning to order another club soda at halftime. Halftime begins, and the bartender/owner comes up to me yelling that I need to give up the table, that I’ve been “taking up a table just on a club soda,” and that “other people needed seats,” despite the fact that I was not saving any seats and would have been more than happy to share the table if anyone had asked. He then proceeds to escalate and raise his volume in front of the other patrons, as if I were being drunk and disorderly. So apparently, unless you’re drinking alcohol you’re not welcome here, even if you’re paying for non-alcoholic drinks. A really awful experience.

Platform Restaurant By BCS Catering – Menu with Prices – 1212 Avenue K, Lubbock

What a surprise to find the platform restaurant. I almost gave up due to the new construction that made it look like that the buildings have been replaced, but by ignoring Google and driving around a couple of blocks around a couple of one ways I found the restaurant and wow was I impressed by my club sandwich. I must introduce myself here has a club sandwich lover and connoisseur. I’ve had a lot of club sandwiches in my days and this club sandwich got my attention wow! There was baked ham sliced on the sandwich and roasted turkey. It means none of this Deli meats but stuff that came right off the barbecue. Now that got my attention. Maybe it just came out of the oven I don’t know. The sandwich was huge if they do put a penny mustard and mayo on the thing I surely wouldn’t have been able to bite it. Oh yeah we know our way around the sandwich I had a full sandwich she had a half with soup and I got to say this is a place I’d be coming back to if I lived in town I like to look at the menu, I like the hummus that she gave us a free appetizer oh, the people are quite attentive, and I just like good food oh, and this is good food

Margaritaville Resort Orlando – Menu with Prices – 8000 Fins Up Cir, Kissimmee

Updated review. This place is waaaaaay out of touch with what luxury service is. I gave them ample time to follow up and rectify the situation but it is abundantly clear that this hotel could give a rip about the people that stay there in less you were staying in very large groups were in the most expensive room in the hotel. Long story short they allowed me to book a room through Booking.com. But when I got there it was not available so when I got up to my room after I dragged everything up there I found out that they had booked me a room that was not what I had paid for. It took several tries to get them to give me a room, it was until I called Booking.com and they used their leverage to get me a small discount and allowed me to check out a day early. Heads up Customer Service called me the manager called me and everybody wanted to explain to me what a great deal it is to get $200 off total off of a $450 a night room that wasn’t what I paid for. More offensively the first offer was comedy club tickets, which they offer complementary. I would never stay here again because you never know if they’ve made the mistake of over booking the hotel and you won’t get a room or not get the room that you paid for or who knows what? In my last conversation with one of the management they bold face told me that they couldn’t guarantee that that would not happen again. So why would I ever stay there. If they are that disorganized to not know who is booked rooms. They shouldn’t be charging that type of price. Also just a heads up about this hotel if you are not staying in one of the most expensive rooms you are a football field away from the front desk and parking. When I was there there was only one bar open, no outdoor bars, it was very difficult to get a drink.

Olympia Club – Menu with Prices – 3011 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica

Great shop; perfect cuts every time, awesome people, cool space, nice addition to the community around them. This is my favorite shop & Frankie is one of my favorite people. I’ve been getting my cuts with him for years. Ever since the first day I met him, I knew whatever shop he was at would be my spot. So glad to see him open his own shop!! He always takes the time and somehow manages to do the impossible and deliver the perfect cut every single time for my odd shaped, thick-haired head. He’s all about people, and it comes through in everything from the cut to the service to the people you’ll meet at the shop hanging out. I go early almost every time to check out the art, hang out, & unwind from my day. PS – I’ve been watching Angel and Kelly dish out crisp cuts and shaves over the years too…everyone leaves happy and sharp no matter who they get time with at Oly Club!

The East Side Club – Menu with Prices – 3735 Monona Dr, Madison

The East Side Club reminds me of a cross between a VFW hall and the bars my parents took us to* as kids in northern Wisconsin in the 80s and 90s. I’ve only hung out in the basement bar and the beautiful outdoor lakeside lawn. I’m not sure if the banquet hall has been updated, but these areas look the same as when they were built decades ago. I’ve been to the bar for a cancer fundraiser and a chili cook-off. The chili cook-off was disorganized if you were a newcomer – most people seemed to be regulars and knew the drill, but as newbies we had a heck of time getting any info. The people cooking chili were serving some people, so we tried to buy samples. The only info we got was “you have to buy tickets and they’ll send you through.” So we went to the ticket table and just got stared at while we tried to buy a dollar’s worth of tickets (samples were 25 cents). We were then wordlessly handed them after asking again. We went back to try to get a sample. “Not ready.” Oooookay. We finally talked to a friend who explained samples didn’t start until 1 and everyone had to line up and the people being served were probably just friends of the entrants. Not sure why the three people involved in the cook-off that we spoke to couldn’t have shared this info, but alas. The bar itself has Bud and Bud Light on tap, and a rotating mix of cans (Spotted Cow was $3). There’s also a small selection of liquor (vodka and raspberry Pucker seemed to be popular) and a couple of wines. I’ve had better luck on the lawn in the summer with their Sunset Music Series (if that’s still happening, it’s been a couple of years since I’ve gone). The setting on Lake Monona is gorgeous, their “tiki bar” offered some super cheap bottles (I think cider was $2 my last visit), and the inclusion of food carts made for a tasty and inexpensive dinner. BYO chair and enjoy the sunset. The ESC does have a bocce league that intrigues me every year (but that I often don’t remember until it’s too late to sign up). There’s a mix of member-only events and ones open to the public. It’s also available for event rentals. While the building might lack the wow factor, the view more than makes up for it. *Didn’t grow up in Wisconsin? It’s totally legal and totally normal to take your kids to bars during the day or for dinner, especially in small towns where the bar might be the only place serving food at night.

Town Talk Diner & Gastropub – Menu with Prices – 2707 E Lake St, Minneapolis

I read the article that was in Friday’s StarTribune, http://www.startribune.com/minneapolis-restaurant-posts-plea-to-neighbors-on-social-media-tell-us-why-you-don-t-eat-here/511294172/ And I kind of felt bad, My last review stated that ‘I had forgotten about this place’. Sounds like people listened, we stopped by for brunch today, 6/16/2019. The place was packed, the tables were turning over in just minutes. I asked our waitress what the last few days had been like, she said the place had just been nuts! I hope that the local’s, (myself included), start making this place on a regular rotation. Today we had a wonderful popover with honey sweetened butter. Wow, it takes me back to being a kid and mom setting a tray of those in front of us. Excellent. Doll had the pork hash with scrambled eggs, I had the omelet with caramelized onions, bacon, and Parmesan cheese. They make a fantastic omelet, very classic. We have both had the pork hash before and it is damn good. All we could do was mumble and nod, ‘this is really good’ to each other! These guys do a similar style potatoes as The Bungalow Club does, but I think these are better. They take little reds and par boil them, crush them a little and deep fry them. These came out nice and crispy and were tossed with a little butter and herbs. The Bungalow Club doesn’t crush them enough, most of them don’t crack open, which is how they get crispy. People, we can’t lose this place, Kacey and Charles create some incredible meals. Stop in, and keep coming in. Support them neighbors, and I will too.
